Even though I am a meat lover, I can easily get past the vegetarian menu as they do offer a few things that even I will eat. However, due to the horrible, crude service, I will NEVER, EVER be back.
We can into the place as a group of 6 to get a few drinks and play some of the old school console games. We are avid gamers and the fact they carry regular Nintendo, super Nintendo etc is actually what brought us into the place. We also live less than a mile away which is another reason we opted to go there despite the vegetarian menu.
The place was empty except for 3-4 people who were seated at the bar and appeared to be regulars due to the conversations we could hear them having with the bartender. We approached the bar and began to order our drinks from the bartender.  The guy serving us acted annoyed at having to take our orders. He would sigh and roll his eyes while we placed our order and at one point asked "are you serious?" when we ordered a cocktail which was on them menu. We told him yes and he made the drink while shooting us dirty looks. He also seemed extremely irritated when we asked for one of the regular Nintendo games (which was on the games list). He just shook his head and walked away to get the game. After getting our drinks and game, we retreated to the very back of the bar away from him and the people at the bar. We quickly realized he gave us the wrong game (easy mistake) and my friend went back the bar to have him exchange it. We all turned around when we heard the bartender yell at my friend for asking to exchange it. We all became very uneasy as we were unsure why he was so upset. My friend is by far the most easy going person I have ever met and to this day I have never seen anyone else get mad at him. The games were literally 2 steps from the bar and since they advertise to the gamers, this  shouldn't have been an issue. Im not sure if it was because my friend is black or he is just that rude to everyone. My friend returned with the right game and a look of fear. We played the game for about 5 minutes but decided to leave as the bartender and the other people in the bar had all turned toward us and just stared at us. Wanting to avoid any kind of physical injury, we decided to just leave and go elsewhere. I have never felt more uncomfortable or unwanted in my life.
Despite the strong drinks we will NEVER go back. I would not recommend this place to anyone that is alone, especially not a woman of a person of color!
The food is delicious and the staff is nice. The Darth Rueben is my favorite. There's an EPA clean up site across the street. The place has kind of a post-urban vibe. Septum piercing nose rings are the worst style since utilakilts so if you run into that just look the other way. It's worth the risk for the Darth Rueben alone.
Review Source:The food was tasty, but I'll eat anything. The one thing I don't like swallowing though is contentious service.
A group of 7 of us went in on a Sunday at noon for a friend's birthday. The plan was to eat, drink, play games and have fun. Â The place was empty, but that didn't stop the server/bartender guy from acting annoyed at any of our orders. He would sigh and roll his eyes while we placed our order. Â He would also visibly shake his head and exclaim outrage with his body language as he walked away.
We were pleasant throughout and trying to order more items, which would boost our bill, which would in turn boost the 18% AUTO gratuity we were forced to give this bottom-dweller.
I've served tables for 6 years, go out about 6 times a week, and this was the worst service I can remember.
He also walked into my friend in the bathroom, but I'm not sure who's fault that was.
The bartender seemed more interested in going out and smoking than getting our group drinks (which equals more tip money for him to buy more cigarettes...) On that note I don't see why it was so hard to serve us and ask if we needed anything.
Our group also had to go to the bar to order to put food on the correct tabs. That should have been easily done by asking for a last name on everyone that had tabs and starting tabs for those without tabs already started.
I didn't eat here because I didn't think there were many options for me, being gluten free. Â I emailed them 2 months before we went and didn't get a reply so ate down the street beforehand just in case there weren't any options for me.
This is a dingy dive bar I would avoid it and go to one of the many other great restaurants in the area.
There is a $5 minimum on credit cards which is a joke since a beer is around $5.50.
I would like to give my experience here one star, however they really look like they have great happy hour potential...so I give two stars.
I went with co-workers for a quick lunch on a weekday. One of the employees was outside shaking his dreadlocks out in front of the door when we pulled up. This almost made one of my co-workers refuse to enter. It wasn't a "clean" site. Anyhoo, we ventured in. Divey atmosphere. Sticky tables. Hipster/hippy staff. Vegetarian menu. I ordered the Luna and ended up eating only half of it because instead of the cheese being spread out over the bread it was all clumped in the middle. The surrounding bread was bare and bland.
I would try this place for after work drinks, but never to eat food again.
Sometimes when I order tofu, I feel so dissatisfied because I don't feel full and tofu is so bland. What is the solution? Two words: field roast!! Field roast is a meat substitute made with grains and veggies. It sounds nasty, but tastes meaty and savory, unlike tofu. I ordered the Picard sandwich, which had slices of lentil sage field roast, melted mozzarella cheese, garlic spread, and roasted red onions inside ciabatta bread, served with vegan Au jus and your choice of salad, chips+salsa, or soup. The bread was crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. The field roast was actually amazing and substantial, Â and I didn't miss meat at all. I dipped every square inch of my sandwich in the Au jus. It took a lot of self control to not pick up the bowl and drink the rest.
Though the divey and pub-like environment does not wow me, I am inclined to return again and again because of how great the food is!!
We went here not knowing it was a vegan/vegetarian establishment. I am a meat eater and I was hungry because we skipped breakfast and it was ready around brunch/lunch time. I had the 2 crunchy tacos and let me tell you it wasn't bad at all. I was curious to try some of the "fake meats" so we also ordered a side of maple sausage and peppered bacon. Of course there will never be anything that can substitute the real bacon, but what we had was interesting. Both the "bacon and sausage" had good texture for imitating the likes of meat and the flavors were really appealing and spiced very well although not in the liking of what it was trying to be. My friend had the I think Dark or Darth Reuben. they had a build your own bloodymary bar which we had, so they give you a glass that ready has the absolute vodka and v8 juice then you add whatever spices and pickled snacks you like. Â If I wasn't so hungry I would have been more excepting but I would like to try it again when I have more of an opened mind and a semi full belly :) This place also has 2 Nintendo units set up with a fairly long list of games!! free of charge!!
Review Source:From the sound of Georgetown Liquor Company I was expecting something completely different than what I found. The parking lot is a dirt and rock lot with a busy railroad track running through it, be careful where you park, especially if it is dark! Speaking of dark, the restaurant has very low lighting and is pretty drab inside. The restaurant has some retro games set up as well as pinball machines, the decor is pretty interesting.
The restaurant looks like a hole in the wall pub, a good place to grab a drink and fried food at 11 AM. Instead, the menu is full on vegetarian and vegan. No one in our group was vegetarian and we had pretty low expectations. We ordered the Nachos with taco "meat" made of textured vegetable protein, my favorite kind of meat that is not actually meat. We also asked for the Plato's Platter which has pita bread, hummus, tomatoes, mushrooms and something called Field Roast, of which I was not a fan. The Nachos were pretty amazing, the entire group loved them. One person in our group was exceptionally skeptical of the taco "meat' but he even said it was fantastic.
We ordered our entrees at the same time that were ordered the appetizers. The appetizers came out very quickly and were nice and fresh. We were pretty hungry and almost finished the appetizers but wanted to save room for our main dishes. The main dishes took over an hour to arrive, and the restaurant was pretty empty. The food was cold when it arrived, so it likely sat around for awhile before it was delivered. I loved the tacos, I bet they would have been even better if they arrived hot!
I will likely come again, hopefully the service will be better next time.
I'll flat out say I've had better vegetarian food elsewhere. Luckily I don't come here for dinner and I don't consider myself vegetarian or vegan. I like eating healthy and checking out the old video games.
The last time I was in I had some sort of hummus platter. Loaded with humus, pita bread, feta, olives and peppercinis...I think there were a few slices of field roast as well. It was tasty. I also tried the artichoke dip and it gave me a bad case of heart burn.
The other thing I wanted to try was the vegan chocolate mousse. It was way too sweet. I pulled off the nutty buddy cookie off the top and enjoyed that more than the over sweet sugary overloaded pudding I experienced with this new item.
This place isn't somewhere I go to eat a full course mean, it's good for meeting up with friends, having a snack and checking out the video game consoles.
Don't forget to save your pennies for the trains that cruise through behind the parking lot!
Manny's + portabella salad + jukebox to force citizens of Georgetown to listen to my jam = my friday night bliss.
I love Manny's. Â I order it at every bar in Seattle that carries it. Â Why I never came here until this year, is a mystery that has now been vacuumed up in my brain's blackhole. Â What I now know however, is that I should never make bold statements like, "I don't like porters" because Georgetown porter gave me a hardcore beergasm. Â
Cheers Georgetown.
The food is fantastic, but as other reviewers have mentioned, the service leaves a bit to be desired. We showed up here to eat 1.5 hours before we needed to be downtown for a show, and we barely made it on time. It wasn't all that busy but the food took forever. It was delicious when it finally arrived, but this is definitely not the place to grab a quick bite.
Review Source:I'm torn. I've been here several times during the day and had wonderful service and yummy food. So, my boyfriend planned my birthday party here...and it was not good. The server was rude to most of my friends and they just randomly changed menu items without telling us!
I ordered the caesar salad with tofu, vegan style. In the past it had been good. It arrived with no vegan cheese and with no tofu! Instead it had some kind of gluten fake chicken substance. They also took so long to get our food out that some of my friends had to get to go boxes before their food even arrived!
If you want to check this place out go for lunch, its a way better experience.
Yum!! Came here with a friend and I have absolutely no letdowns from this bar. Our waiter was extremely friendly.
We both ordered the Enterprise burger, which is their house-made vegan burger. They had a new cook, so the patties were a little overdone but the flavor was delicious. We got side salads and they were mixed greens with fresh vegetables and a mouth-watering dressing on top! I want to try everything on their menu!
Very satisfying and hearty rueben sandwich even for an omnivore like me, though the split pea soup left a bit to be desired. The cocktail I had was tasty, but overall everything seemed a touch overpriced (thus the 4 stars instead of 5). Service was great, overall really pleased with my GLC experience.
Review Source:I've come in here a long time ago for watering-hole purposes and didn't think enough to write about it, but the vegetarian menu is impossible to ignore if you eat mostly veggie like me.
So I stopped back in, and on the rec of the bartender I ordered the Picard field roast hot sammie with veggie au jus, which was served with a REAL salad--not just some sad iceberg lettuce that can barely hold its leaves up ($10.75.) I didn't order it in my Jean Luc Picard voice, though I think it's pretty impressive if I do say so myself.
The sandwich delivered that umami that I was looking for on a cold, end-of-the-world kind of day, although I will say I'm glad it wasn't my last meal.
You have to be purposeful when you drive here, as is everything in the neighborhood, the parking lots are practice for the Zombiepocalypse.
I'll definitely come back for more sandwiches (!) but would probably choose another place to drink at.
I'm a meat-eating, beer-and-wine-drinking, all-American girl. Â Good food is good food, meat and cheese or no meat and cheese. Â Love it here. Â Great music playing, cool local art on the wall, great recipies, nice guy serving at the bar, good service. Â What, exactly, more could you want? Â Bringing my vegan lady friends here next time. And my beer-drinking, meat-eating, music-loving ones, too.
Review Source:Stopped in for a bite on our way out of town.
Food: How nice to have a bar where everything is catered for vegetarians/vegans! Â Even nicer that they do it right. Â I got the Enterprise veggie burger with salad--delicious, salad was mixed greens with balsamic and cheese. Â S/O got the split pea soup and the BBQ ham sandwich. Â Both were fresh, warm, and made with high quality ingredients. Â The soup wasn't fantastic though... +1
Ambiance: Â Dark dark dark dark darkk! Â I think it was reasonable clean, but how would you tell in the dark. Â That's okay thoguh, I get off put by bright and cheery bars. Â Something about that just seems wrong. +1
Service: Good service, not busy at all when we were in. Â +1
Convenience/Price: Reasonably priced, a little out of the way for me being way on the south end but good if you are heading to the airport or Olympia, Portland, etc. Â Has it's own parking lot as well. Â +1
Other Factors of Awesomeness: Nope. Â +0
4 stars!
I'm a vegan. Â I'm straight-edge. Â Clearly, I don't go to bars very often! Â But if they were all more like Georgetown Liquor Company, well, I might have a new obsession on my hands. Â I absolutely loved this place.
The bar is huge and dark, with a pinball machine and several old school video game consoles lining one wall. Â I kind of thought we had walked into the wrong place, because it was in a remote section of Georgetown, surrounded by freeway overpasses and a ton of construction: but there it was. Â
And thank goodness for that. Â Everything we had for lunch was to-die-for, and it was just such a fun vibe. Â I loved my tempeh reuben sandwich, and my lady's seitan au jus was like nothing I've ever eaten before. Â And we totally dug the black forest mousse (ok, one complaint, that was no mousse; that was pudding) that we snagged for dessert. Â
Our server was really friendly and accommodating, and of course we spent some time wailing on the pinball machine after finishing our sandwiches. Â I could totally see myself hanging out here on the regular if I didn't live 3,000 miles away -- so enjoy it for me, and I'll live vicariously through you.
Great vegetarian-meaty meals, retro video games, and one of the best barstools in Seattle. Feel like Captain Kirk getting a draft! Â (Of course, there's only one of those.)
The meat analogues are tasty; you won't miss the animal in any of your sandwiches. Â Artichoke dip app is pretty filling, and the salads are well composed.
Didn't think much of the vegan chocolate mousse with peanut butter frosting - heavy, cloying, and generally unpleasant in my mouth.
Good selection of local beers on tap, plus a cider.
The bald, tattooed bartender (in Georgetown. what a surprise.) had this annoying habit of ignoring me, but other days and nights I've had great service, especially from the bearded dude.
Reliable, great food, affordable, and vegetarian!
Very cool joint for a Vegetarian or Vegan. Â I love the dive feel but no meat menu. Â Awesome choices on the menu, many different sandwich varieties that you may have never tried in a veg friendly way. Â I had the "tuna" and was quite impressed. Â First time I have had anything resembling tuna since going vegetarian years ago. Â I went back the next day with girlfriend in tow for more good stuff. Â She had the "chicken fried steak" made with seitan that was pretty darn tasty. Â A nice house gravy covered it. Â I got a "half plate" of nachos that I was barely able to put a dent into before bursting at the seams full.
The retro video games in the back give the place such a great feel, my girlfriend was stoked that she got to play her favorite childhood atari game. Â The stoke wore off soon when she was forced to remember how slow the atari plays haha. Â Awesome place! Â Friendly staff. Â I will definitely go again, in fact I think I am going there right now!
I always have a good time at the GLC.
The servers are always friendly and polite. The food is good. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but there's always something on the menu I'll eat.
My friends and I have played the free old school video games once. It took me back to when I was a little kid.
Keep up the good work guys!
5 Stars for food!
This has to be the best vegan food in Washington. Â Everything is absolutely delicious, from the enchiladas to the tamales and various sandwiches with field roast and Daiya cheese. Â I've tried most of the menu and everything is yum! Â The desserts have been great too.
The atmosphere is that of a dive bar, the service leaves something to be desired; however you don't go here for the service or ambiance. Â The place is a little quirky, many of the menu items have sci-fi names and they have old Atari and Nintendo game stations set-up to play.
Â
The place can get loud, from the large weekday happy-hour crowds and the music and the fact that it is about 25 feet from a used and busy rail-road tracks...think horns blazing and railcars rolling by.
I have brought several of my carnivorous friends here and they all have been blown away by the great flavors and varieties of food, it's not tofu and salads and this place...it is gourmet food, delicious and well put together.
The prices are what you would expect for a vegan place, as non-dairy "cheese" and "meat" alternative is not cheap at cost. Â They put it together so nicely, it is well worth the price.
Again 5 stars on the food alone...don't expect a romantic spot for a candle lit dinner and exceptional service...you won't find it.
When we leave Seattle to go traveling we always hope we can find a place just like GLC! Best vegan pub food probably in the world, not greasy and gut bomb but really quality and delish. The Picard is the best vegan french dip I have ever had, and everyone I bring there becomes a regular, and comes back for this sammy. The chef salad is enormous and super great. Â We have lived in the area for 7 years and go to GLC at least once a week. Â GOod art on the walls, loud music, Never crappy food and the drinks are great also.
Also super awesome bartenders! Zack is our fav, never an attitude and always cool!
Couldn't believe it.
Our first stop in Seattle started with a bang.  Coming from one of the veggie-friendliest cities (Austin) I was still overwhelmed with how amazing this place was, and the response from meaty fiancé echoes.
He had the Wrap of Kahn, which absolutely stood up to the flavorful zesty fajitas of home and was bursting with the flavor, even the tortilla was anything but ordinary.
I had the Picard, which for a veggie that craves meat fairly regularly, I think gave me a few more years off the animals-- I've been a veg for almost 8 years but I can hardly think of a more satisfying sandwich in my omnivore days of yore.
The staff was wonderful, I hate that I'm forgetting his name but the gentleman running the place was great to chat with and an awesome welcome to a city I know we'll be returning to soon.
Nothing but love for GLC.
Well after hitting up St. Dames in the morning I ended up going for biking to Harbor Island and then hitting up Georgetown Liquor Company.
What can I say about Georgetown? It's a weird little place in the middle of an industrial zone. It thrives because it's staffed by scrappy MFers. It's also the only place in Seattle that seems to have Olympia or Portland rent prices.
Anyway! GLC is a damn fine vegan/veg pub. The names of the sandwiches are styled after sci-fi movies/tv shows. They have a bloody mary bar and many video games to play. I don't even know why I'm writing all that much abou this place. It's so well known and respected that how could you NOT have eaten/draaanken here.
So vegan/veg kids, always remember that Seattle restaurants have your back.
Vegan eggs Benedict: cheap, tasty, and beautifully presented on the plate!
Service was a bit slow (it is more bar than restaurant, so it is expected) but well worth the wait. There are booths, tables and counter seating and there is a little self-serve table with tons of condiments. Almost anyone can easily make vegan sandwiches, tacos, or nachos but I don't really know anywhere else in town that serves vegan eggs Benedict so close to the 'real thing'. The Benedict was not too saucy or overwhelming with one type of flavor that is common in a lot of vegan dishes. I don't even drink alcohol but I'd definitely make a drive out of my way just to come here again just for the vegan food!
As good as it gets... for a dive-y, vegan Sunday brunch place!
Actually, it might even be as good as it gets for delicious vegan brunch, I found the two items I had here much better than the MUCH more expensive, trendy Cafe Flora in Madison Valley (local vegans know the place). In a nutshell, all the food was really, really good. I love the chicken-fried steak which I will post a photo of.
The WOW factor for me here is actually NOT the really cool vintage video games, but the "build your own bloody Mary" bar! The bartender gives you all the basic stuff, then you add the toppings - including a whole array of hot sauces. Really neat!
The atmosphere (completely laid back, not too crowded) and friendly, kind staff make this place as good as it gets for brunch. Plywood floors, ceiling, walls and booths all painted black give this place that perfect dive feel, along with the $2 cans of Olympia or Rainier 16 oz beer specials.
So the next time you wake up on a Sunday needing to kill that hangover with a great bloody Mary toss on some comfy clothes and zip on over to Georgetown Liquor Company... they'll treat you right!
Woah, I was not expecting a place with "liquor" in the company name to be so veggie-friendly (or conversely, meat-hating). Â I had the portobella sandwich on ciabatta. Â All the ingredients were delightfully fresh, but the sauce just didn't have enough tangy flavor to make the sandwich interesting. Â There was a huge side salad with good balsamic vinagrette; all in all, a very filling lunch for $10.
And I thought it was so cool they had an Atari and Nintendo! Â I've never even SEEN atari in real life til now. Â Oh yeah, and the electronic jukebox that looked like a giant IPOD? Â I'm diggin that; retro right next to chic!
Holly s**t what a cool place! W stopped at the Georgetown Liquor Company as part of our Saturday night's bar hopping route. The place looks like a cool artistic dive, with a great atmosphere of old Georgetown and $2/can for Old Oly. The best part, however, is the food! I would never guess that this dive is actually a vegetarian place! And the food is damn good: it is fresh, tasty, filling and nicely presented. Why no five stars? Well, the service kinda sucks- it took a long time for anyone to notice us and the waiter was rude. He barked at us, that they only accept three credit cards per party, and "It is clearly written on the menu!" Number one, we were drunk and did not care what the hell is fine printed on the menu, two- we did give him... three credit cards.
To summarize- place is great, the jerk waiter did not spoil it!
Cruising along Airport Way in the late hours on a Sunday night after work, you'd easily blaze past this place. It's totally unsuspecting at night with a subtle creepy vibe being along the train tracks. Daren wanted to check it out. Daren walks in...
...dang, what a total... classy dive bar? o.O There's 3 old skool gaming stations, some tables aren't clean, intimate booth lighting, dark black tones, random thumbs up from person who parked after me, cool, presentable bartender with nary a piercing nor tattoo visible, [slasher] films on TV (i hope they play other types, as well, and not just this---I didn't like seeing someone's knee getting the hook while screaming), veggie fare and mix crowd.
With the kitchen closed that hour, the only food available is a nice bowl of chips & salsa. That, I had, as well as a Mint Julep... a Min...t... Ju...l.e....p.... I really liked it as it tasted pretty good, simple & strong and dare I say made me rather slunk (sleepy & drunk?). *checks reflexes and coordination* It was a rather strange experience I haven't felt before and wanted to get another; I did drive home safely, though, thanks. =P
I'm totally getting my retro gaming on the next time I swing by.
Having a vegetarian menu in a bar may seem a little strange, but not stranger than the old school Atari and Nintendo video game consoles set up along the wall opposite from the bar. These ultimately are good things and add a really cool flavor, so to speak to what could otherwise be a very bland and generic place.
From the outside, it looks very small and unassuming, but as you walk in you realize there is plenty of seating and enough open space and high ceiling to make even large groups feel comfortable. There are several booths along one wall, several small tables for intimate meetings, and one large round table perfectly suited for a group to eat, drink, and socialize.
As far as neighborhood hangouts go, this seems like it would be a great place to unwind after work or on the weekend with a very welcoming atmosphere and a great selection of food and drinks. Even if you are a meat eater, you will find several items on their menu that will keep you satisfied at least for one night.
