All the places I went to this weekend were amazing. Â Unfortunately, this was not one of them. Â Yesterday hubby and I thought lets go to Nyack and show some love. We go to Ridgewood, NJ regularly. Â We sat at the bar and were greeted by a nice female bar tender asking us if we want a drink:) Yes, we ask for the wine list and she offers typical Cab, Merlot, Syrah so we choose the Syrah. Â It was warm and seemed as if it were hanging in corked bottle for some time. We were the asked if we wanted to see a menu, and we did offering us 50% off certain appetizers. Â We ended up getting two appetizers. Â Nachos which were greasy and absent of any flavor other than salt. Â In addition we ordered the spicy chipotle shrimp, which were not spicy at all but slathered in a cream sauce. Â We had not eaten all day so we gobbled these up like vultures. Â Even before we were done with our first glass of wine, the bartender asks us if we would like another. So we did. I also asked for seltzer so I could use that ice to chill my wine. Â Then to my surprise, as this has never happened before, she says anything else? Â And we said not right now. Then she hands us the check. Â We only had two appetizers and two glasses of wine. Â How did she know if we were going to order lunch? How did she know if we were going to order a bottle of wine? Â Well, Harbor Hill, now you will never know. Poor etiquette by a bar tender which should be the most profitable part of your business just ruined chances for this regular. Â Look at my reviews, my Instagram and Facebook. We go out...a lot. Bye bye.
Review Source:I really don't like giving negative reviews, I'd rather go out of my way to say something positive... But, Harbor Hill is not living up to their potential and I wish they would! I have been a resident of Nyack for most of my life and in the restaurant business for almost as long! I have been to Harbor Hill at least 10 times, and to be honest, it just gets worse every time. It's sad for me to see another restaurant come and go, but it seems that the staff doesn't care if they are the next on the chopping block, and the owners/management don't seem to be doing ANYTHING to make a change or improvement. Every single one of the times I have been there, there has never been more than 25 people at the MOST! And, if you have been there, you know how huge of a space it is. The food is going down hill (probably because they don't have the amount of turnover necessary to have fresh food and have moved on to frozen everything it seems). And, this last time I was there, there were maybe 5 people at the bar, no one dining, and no one behind the bar for a good 10 minutes upon my arrival, plus no server in sight (then I realized she was sitting at one of the tables on her phone - and stayed there the entire hour I was there). They're not rude once they are around. They just don't care... And it's obvious. I hope things turn around for them...
Review Source:Ordered takeout here. Â
Wife got a chicken dish.. I got the burger.
Burger was too rare.. wet the whole bun.. no fun eating at all!
Wife's chicken was mediocre at best. Â Looked like a fresh frozen meal.
They have a lamb burger too.. but i doubt i'd want to try that now.
I'm glad that venue is up again as a new bar for sure though. Â
Food is not good. Â Much better food options on Main Street in Nyack.
I have visited this restaurant several times. I have had very good experiences and not so good.
The good- the tator tots with the parmasean remoulade are unlike any kind of bar snack I have had before-really, really good! The Pesto chicken sandwich is also very good with a yummy foccacia bread. I ask for pesto on the side just as a personal preference.
The 'ehhh'- the fries are very hit or miss. Some nights wonderfully hot and crisp and other times very limp and oily.
The bad- unfortunately the salads aren't that very good. They put this grated lemon zest all over it and it is completely over powering. Yes you can ask without and I am sure they will comply. Â Also the Filet mignon on 'garlic muffins' tasted more like chewy skirt steak and the 'garlic muffins' were soggy tasteless english muffins.
Service however is great. Very friendly and bartenders are funny and chatty. I have hope for this place that it will work out the kinks and become a staple on the Nyack scene.
Strange to have such a great location with outdoor seating and only offer a few choices for wine..... I think they offered 4 reds and 4 whites... none of which were worthy of drinking.
Looked at the menu for about 20 minutes and thought I could make something tastier at home.
We ended up leaving and going to the Hudson House. Â (which was gorgeous)
Beautifully decorated, friendly staff. Â I think I'm usually there during off hours, cause it always seems quiet.
Been here several times since they've opened for 'safe' food.
Good selection of draft beers...Defiant is a plus...know how to pour a proper guinness!
Burgers/sandwiches are good. Â Nothing outrageous, but good. Â Chicken sandwich on the foccacia bread it outstanding!
Soups are bland...need seasoning.
When you go to this restaurant you have to understand what you are getting into, and then you will be much happier. Â This is a bar, first and foremost, with the "restaurant" being second. Â Beautiful atmosphere (remember it's a bar) and better then expected service. Â The classic rock & roll was nice as well. The food is actually quite good for a bar. Â The ingredients were fresh and tasty. Â If I wanted "fine dining" this most definitely would not be the place to go, but for a beer and a burger it does quite nicely.
Review Source:We went here the day after Thanksgiving and it has only recently opened, so these two factors may or may not explain the fact that it was really slow. We were the first to arrive around 5pm and there were probably only two other three others tables that were seated by the time we left.
The service was very friendly and attentive, no problems there.
I ordered the caesar salad with chicken and my date had the steak sandwich, which he said was delicious. It looked delicious, too, and was served with fresh french fries. The grilled chicken on my salad was a large portion that was correctly seasoned, perfectly cooked, and juicy. However, I was a little put off by the lemon curd they added to the dressing. I saw it listed on the menu but didn't expect them to use so much of it. There were large chunks of lemon rind and it made the dressing borderline sweet, which was somewhat unappealing. I would have opted for a little lemon zest instead.
As for the atmosphere, I found it a little confusing. There's a large square bar in the center of a giant hall - I felt like I was dining in the hallway of a giant Rhode Island mansion that was playing top 40 music and had the college basketball game on TV. It's as if they're trying to satisfy the sports bar, pub, and nightclub crows at the same time. However, I do feel like this place has potential, it's just a matter of the right crowd discovering it.
