I like that the parking attendant had me park in the front since I was a female by myself. Â If I could give him 5 stars I would. Â
I went to see Here Come The Mummies on Sep 5th, 2013. Â It looked like the place was oversold. Â There was barely any room to move. Â I don't appreciate places that oversell concerts. Â I won't go back to the Bluebird in Bloomington, IN because they oversell their concerts. Â I got there at about 8:30pm and people were already drunk. Â The show hadn't started yet. Â These people should have been put in a cab and sent home. Â They probably won't remember the show anyway. Â I left early because of the drunks. Â Beer prices weren't bad. Â $3.50 for a domestic beer. Â The bathroom could use a hosing down. Â Four sinks and only one soap dispenser. Â
The outside smoking area should be restricted to somewhere away from the main entrance. Â I quit smoking 3 years ago and just walking out of this place I smelled like I just smoked a few. Â
I'll probably be back here if there is a band I really like playing. Â It's not often that Louisville gets a good band.
I've been there twice this year and both times I had a positive experience. Â Hatebreed and Ice Cube. Â I love the 24 oz. PBRs for $5. Â The ladies room is always in good shape and I've never had to wait. Â I was able to park on the street for Ice Cube and for Hatebreed I paid $3 to park across the street and I thought it was awesome that they put me in front because "I was a woman all by herself". Â Sound was great as well for both concerts.
Review Source:Headliners is similar to way too many small concert venues the length and breadth of America.
You pay your money to see a show and you're forced to put up with whatever you find when you get inside.
Be that over-reactive unprofessional security staff, dirty surroundings, no seating whatsoever, uninterested bar staff or extremely poorly maintained bathrooms.
Is it really too much to ask that bathroom stalls have working locks on the doors or that you don't have to stand in a puddle of stale urine just to take a pee?
I hate that so many of these places take your hard-earned dollars and expect you to 100% enjoy a show in these conditions. The security staff were ludicrously truculent at the show we attended, remonstrating with people taking photos with their cell phones and stopping others from using a flash. This was before the first band had even come on stage!
What security should be doing is dragging out - and kicking to the street - all the drunk loud talkers that there were in attendance for the headline act. We came to hear the band not you banging on about how crappy your boss was today or why you think your girlfriend is cheating on you. If you wanna talk, why bother coming to the show at all, why not just go to one of the many bars nearby and share your angst in a setting where you won't piss off everyone around you? I'm all for free speech but my ticket wasn't free, so stay away please!
As you can maybe tell I wasn't impressed with Headliners. The band we saw were great but I would've probably declared them magnificent had I been able to enjoy sitting down for even 10 minutes of the 4 hours we were there and been able to use the bathroom without having to hold my breath.
Solid music venue for established and upcoming music acts. Really liked the tall stage which makes for more viewing angles for those of various heights. Two bars and at least one beer tub slinging drinks. Their version of a PBR tall-boy is 24 oz. and a good deal.
Came here for the Tame Impala show. Sound quality was excellent (I produce sound for MOKB and have some clue of what I'm talking about). The PA system is just the right amount power for the room.
There's very little parking in the attached lot, but plenty in the $3 lot across the street. Not much else in the neighborhood to walk to that we could find, which is fine since we came for the music.
Worst part about Headliners is that I always find out about stuff after it happens. Â It was a stroke of dumb luck that I heard about the show I went to, less than 8 hours before it was scheduled to start. (Thank you, WFPK!!)
I've been to a lot of venues in a lot of cities. Â This is one of the better ones. Â Big enough without being too big, great sight lines, easy access to the barS (plural!), relatively reasonably priced drinks ($3 beer, $5.50 Four Roses drinks).
Just wish I had gotten here longer than 2 weeks before leaving Louisville.
This is a pretty awesome old venue. There's a decent amount of space where it sin't too crowded. One time I touched the walls inside and they were wet. I don't know what the science is behind that, but it was kind of weird. Everyone's really chill here, I got a lot of smiles at the last concert I went to.
Review Source:Headliners could tweak a few things and be a solid 5 stars but for now it remains just a little short of "as good as it gets."
Three things draw me to Headliners:
-The MOTH monthly readings
-shows on holidays; looking for something to do on Halloween? New Years? Headliners will have a cheap, fun and usually universally appealing option
-affordable performances by both local and out of town acts (can't wait for Alt-J in March!!)
Room for improvement:
-knock a dollar or two off those $$$ drinks
-why can't someone just open up the second floor when all the seating is clearly taken up on the first floor?
They get some really fun acts here, and ticket prices are usually pretty decent. And I love the atmosphere of the venue.
But:
I miss not having to pay for parking here.
The drinks...waaaay too expensive.
I would really LOVE more options for seating, especially for more low-key shows. (Everyone will stand and enjoy for Matisyahu, most people would probably like to have the option to sit for a female acoustic guitarist singer-songwriter.)
How many times does the bouncer need to check my purse? Last night...3 times. Why?
Also, it just gets so hot there in the summer.
I'll be back for sure, it just isn't my favorite venue.
YUM Centers better little cousin.
This local treasure is host to a mix of many great performances including Amos Lee, Belly Dance Tribes, Moth Stories from NPR, and Va Va Vixens Burlesque Show.
There is nothing fancy about the inside, but there is a least all the key parts to host a successful show. This venue has two levels with a bar upstairs and downstairs. There is a great sound system and proscenium stage to give you that perfect, "I can't hear you", concert feel. The price of most shows are under $40, which allows for more people to experience these Headliners who deserve Yum Center, but haven't built the followers. The staff is also very supportive of all the performers that come through and make every effort to increase your positive experience. When you walk in there is the classic wrist band experience which make me nostalgic, much better then the new bar-code ticket scanning at other concert halls. Finally, you can not have a show without the merchandise table. This table is always available for whatever nick-knacks the traveling artist is selling.
The unfortunate parts are the first come first serve seating and really this is mostly standing. There are limited amounts of chairs so a larger crowd can fit. The lines for the bathroom can be long since they are pretty small. The temperature is also probably going to be a little warm since it seems to me they only have fans and not a solid AC system.
However, I would much rather have the intimate experience of this venue, the ability to see and hear the performer up close, and the cost of the cover and drink prices, to any YUM stadium experience.
Now if only we could convince Siva and Smith...
I attended the Headliner's concert "Louisville is for Covers" on Halloween night and let me tell you, I am glad I did. Â Being new to the city, I have been wanting to check this spot out for some time now and I think I chose the perfect night to go. Â It was a smaller crowd, not packed to the walls, but a decent size to really get a feel for the place. Â I thought the bar service was really good and efficient. Â The bathrooms were clean....a very important bonus to me! I love the feeling of a standing room only concert setting as well. Â The best part were the costumes. Â Now I know on a regular night these would not be a part of the Headliner's sceen, but it was a fun way to spice up the evening. Â I recommend checking out Headliner's Music Hall.
Review Source:Great venue to see shows in Louisville. Â Parking is pretty cheap and convenient. Â The bathrooms are acceptable. Â Decent selection at the bar (tip: the lines are usually shorter upstairs)
5-stars for the guy in charge of the bookings.
3-stars for the guy in charge of ordering chairs.
I'm averaging that out to 4 stars.
This place is awesome! Worked the sold out show with Jesco White and Pick up the Snake and had a great time. First off it was super hot and we were nonstop selling t-shirts. The acoustics sounded great, the pre-show bbq was awesome, and the staff I met were so nice and friendly. The actual building is really cool, original paintings from the late 30s, full stage, and balcony. The only thing I can complain about - this was the only place on our tour that a shirt was stolen. That has nothing to do with the venue, but more so with the patrons. Parking lot across the street makes everything super convenient. Really happy the Louisville show was booked here.
Review Source:So, Headliners has its downsides: the women's bathroom is always flooded, the wait at the bar can be excruciating, and if you get the wrong bartender you'll be drinking Coke with a splash of bourbon. I've seen a lot of shows in a lot of cities, though, and so I've learned to appreciate a lot of things about Headliners. Having a balcony with seating is awesome--so if you want to kick back during a show and just watch the action, get there early and score some action on the railing. The elevated back bar is also great, so that when you're standing in line you're at least rewarded with a clearer view of the stage. There's also a side bar near the bathrooms, which is great to empty and immediately refill your bladder. And, although the women's bathroom floods, there are 6 or 7 stalls, which minimizes wait time.
And then there is the more important stuff: the club has great acoustics (although it's up to the sound person to get it right.) The stage is sizable and elevated enough to see from any point in the room. Not only do they book great touring acts, they also host a lot of great local events. The ticket prices are reasonable, and so a lot of things will sell out before the day of show--I highly recommend advance purchasing if it's something you really want to see.
Oh, one more thing worth noting: recently they lost access to their parking lot, which means you'll have to find parking on the street. If it's going to be a packed show, either get there early or be prepared to hike a couple of blocks.
Very cool place for music. Â This is probably my favorite stage to play on and the sound is pretty phenomenal- great system and great sound guys. Â Also a great place to see bands and there are usually always some cool groups playing here.
I look forward to working with Headliner's again in the future.
Saw the Shack Shakers here in my first time in Louisville and I have to say I was impressed by this venue. $10 friday nite show and $3 beers; it had a mixed crowd that drank with enthusiasm. I really liked the fresco paintings on the wall and how they pimped out the professional sound equipment in the center of the room in front of the elevated bar area. Acoustic paneling and the real aluminum stage rig? Huge plus, great sound. Don't miss.
