I was happy to meet a friend in Old Louisville for lunch recently but felt stumped when they said they needed to eat fish since it was Friday (and during Lent).  I racked my brain before remembering that - way back when - I had gotten fish sandwiches at the Hill Street Fish Fry.

Watch for this place, because you can pass it by if you bat an eye.  My friend and I were lucky enough to find a parking spot, even with the restaurant bursting at the seams once we got inside.

There are a few cafe-style tables once you get inside, and we grabbed one after ordering.  Drinks were brought to our table a minute later, and sandwiches followed a few minutes after that.  As other posters have mentioned, they are HOT!  But they're also delicious if you want flaky white fish sandwiches.  I added some tartar sauce, and with my side of fries, it was not bad for a fried fish sandwich during the Lenten season.

Remember the days when business owners could afford to be stingy? If you forgot, go the the Hill Street Fish Fry!

I was in a hurry passing through Old Louisville and this was the only place I could stop to get a quick bite to eat on the go. I asked for the special of the day, the cashier told me the price, and when I handed her a debit card she told me there was an additional charge.

Sure, it's just $.50, but it's also a surefire way to tell your customer, "Hey, I'm just as miserable as you are. If you want something fancy, like an owner that pays their own credit card fees, then go anywhere else."

    I will.

The fish is okay, and it gets 2 stars because it is one of your only options if you're living in Old Louisville.  If you have time to go somewhere else you probably should.  How does the most densely populated area of Louisville have so few restaurants?  Old Louisville is a restaurant desert, so I found myself begrudgingly returning time after time.  The owner is just not a friendly guy and he tacks on an additional charge for just about everything.  Come with cash or you will pay an extra credit card fee.  Refills are an extra charge and they put so much ice in the Styrofoam cup you will need one.  Extra anything, extra charge.  The man is a blunt penny-pinching business man.  It really isn't that expensive though, and the fish is okay.  Order to-go or eat outside.  The restaurant is cramped and you'll have to listen to people argue with the cashier the entire time you're there.
