I had been wanting to try the "new" Flabbys since I found out they had re-opened. Â I was sad when they closed because they had been a long time establishment in the Gremantown-Schnitzelburg area and I hate to see the old classics dying out. Â The menu was some what reinvented but many of the classics remain and there are some interesting new additions as well. Â I had to stick with a classic and order the fried pork tenderloin sandwich with onion rings. Â That proved to be an excellent choice. Â The pork was cooked perfectly, it was tender and moist and very crispy but not at all greasy. Â I could have sworn that the menu stated the sandwich was served on a bun but it came out on sandwich bread which was no big deal and actually a nice change. Â The onion rings were some of the best I've had. Â I really liked the breading on them. Â Five stars for the food. Â I do have some concerns about how long they might be staying in business though. Â We were there at about 8 on a Friday night and they were dead. Â We were the only customers in the place for most of our visit. Â Two other people did come in to eat but that was it and this seemed strange for a Friday night. Â Many of the menu items were crossed out with black marker also so I don't now if that's to say they were out of those items temporarily or if that was meant to be a permanent menu change but either way it seemed like a bad sign. Â These things combined with the fact that they were closing at around 9 worry me a bit about how successful their re-open has been. Â The reason this review was not a five star review was that the service was just ok. Â The bartender waited on us and as I said we were the only table in the place for most of our visit but the service was a little slow. Â We also waited a fairly long time for our food considering the lack of other customers. Â Just an average expierience as far as the service was concerned. Â I hope to get the chance to eat at Flabbys again before they close for good. Â Crossing my fingers that this particular Friday night was a fluke because I would love for Flabbys to be around for a long time to come!
Review Source:I've visited here before it's closing and after it's reopening, and I think it's gotten better!
-It's VERY reasonably priced, food & beer
-I've never had to wait to get a table
-They take credit cards now!
-Fried chicken = great/amazing.  Meatloaf = even better  than the chicken.
-Most things I've had all were definitely homemade and not made with foodservice substitutes
-So, So very friendly and approachable staff and service
-Um, another bar is across the street, high five!
It's a Louisville institution definitely making a comeback!
Yes, the fried chicken is the real deal! Â A 4-piece dinner with 2 sides will set you back a whopping $8. Â One dinner is enough for two medium-hungry adults, making it one of my favorite takeout meals on the weekends. Â That's right - they only make the fried chicken on Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays.
There are other tasty things to sample if you come during the week (meatloaf sammich mmmm), just remember to bring your cash, as they don't take credit cards. Â They're open for lunch, too, if you're passing through!
