THE WORST NAENGMYEON I (WE)  HAVE EVER HAD.

I don't know why the hoopla over this place.  The noodles are not very good and very expensive.  I have been here twice.  The broth is VERY bland (confirmed with a friend who also tried this place on the recommendation of someone), and the noodles were for the bibimnaengmyeon a bit stuck together.  Noodles stick when they are sitting around for a while.  One friend had added so much mustard and vinegar to improve the flavor, the noodle broth became mustard color.  It still tasted like water.

Also, on the last visit, the waitress gave us misinformation regarding the pricing of the mandoo (dumplings).  We wanted the 20 piece for $15.95.  She said that only the meat and shrimp dumplings were available, and each 10-piece order were normally for $8.95 each.  But, if we did order the 20-piece, only meat and shrimp will come out (the 20-piece usually comes in four assorted "flavors" not just two).  Lo and behold, our check had two orders of $8.95 rather than $15.95.  Stupid lady.

If you want good naengmyun (naengmyeon), head over to Flushing (Geumgangsan) or K-town.

BTW, the name of the place should read Hamung or Hamoong (pronounced Hah-Moong).  This crappy restaurant can't even get the translation correct.

I really wouldn't recommend any other place for nengmyun than Homung Nangmyun in Closter, NJ. They are usually busy, not open on Sundays, and have a very loyal following of customers from all parts of New Jersey.  I know for a fact that customers drive an hour or more out of their way to dine here, and it's the same reason why my family and I always come back here.  Their nengmyun is just the best. I would recommend their potato pancake as well, which is an absolute guilty pleasure of mine.  When I've had a long day and a harrowing commute home from the city, and my mom says, "you want to take a drive out to Homung Nangmyun in Closter?" I literally forget all my troubles and I'm out the door in a high speed dash to my favorite nengmyun restaurant. This is a true story, people. As I said they get very busy, but the service is fast and generous and their soup is flavored just perfectly and its unlimited which makes this place too easy to love.  I am far more critical of korean establishments in the states than other other dining places, and this place always gets five stars from me. There's no middle ground in how loyal customers feel about this restaurant; you either love it or you love it. Nothing less :)

If I lived closer, I would come more often. If you live near cloister, nj, than you should go here for some authentic Korean cold noodles. They specialize in this and is worth the trip.

Try their Korean pancake also. Not the ordinary, where the pancake is thick and the portion of ingredients are big.

I like their hot soup in the canisters.

As J.L. said, this is the real deal.

My son and I had lunch there today, and started with the shrimp dumplings, which were delicious.  Incredibly thin and delicate skins, with outstanding shrimp and vegetables inside. Neither of us felt like having cold noodles, as it was an unseasonably cold day, so we had hot soups which were really good, in fact just about as good as I've ever had.

My son wanted to come back for dinner. Unfortunately we couldn't do that tonight, but we'll be back soon.

This place defines Bergen County Korean fare for me. Hands down the best cold noodles that I've eaten stateside. Consistent quality. Consistent, consistent, consistent, dependable, dependable. Love, love love.

They haven't changed the decor since I first came as a preteen. Had a first date there right by the framed artwork of green peppers! Love that too!

Y'all know I don't get very effusive on Yelp. But this is the real deal.

Really, really delicious stuff. The cold noodles and soo-yook is the best I've ever had. Unfortunately I have to take away two star because of all the times I've been there, they've been out of dumplings. Eh? Not just once... but every. single. time. It's been really disappointing! Hopefully next time they'll have dumplings and I'll update this review.

This place is a little hard to find, so don't give up! This is a down home authentic place. We had shrimp dumplings which were the best I ever had, freshly made, paper-thin skin. Also had the cold noodles with beef and skate-incredible and spicy!
For "dessert" we had the "beef back" soup with green cabbage. Absolutely fantastic!
The "free" steaming hot broth, served at each table in a thermos was outstanding. We were treated so nicely by "J" the owners daughter, we have to go back and bring all our friends!

Talk about finding a GEM!  BAM!

Talk about good clean tasting nangmyun (cold noodle soup).  This place is authentic as it gets.  This place is actually better than restaurants in the motherland some would say.  Although many would order nangmyun, you should try their dumplings and sooyook (boiled beef with tendons and seasoned scallions) also.

If you are tired of the same old boring korean dishes in Pal Park and Fort Lee, then head over to Closter.

Disclaimer:  this is not your BBQ or Chinese or Japanese style Korean restaurant so be warned!

This ain't your mama's cooking but your mama could never cook like this! ENJOY!

2 thumbs up for this great nangmyum place. Their cold noodles are the best in the NY/NJ area. Steamed dumpling also my favorite, my kids like their bulgogi dup bap(BBQ beef over rice) that serve in a clay pot. Yum!

The best Naengmyeun in NJ hands down !!!  We've been coming to this restaurant since it opened more than 15 years ago. Even with the management change, the noodles are still the same quality. My folks are from Homung and Shinpo in North Korea (before 1950), so I grew up eating quality noodles. We would strongly recommend this place if you're looking for authentic buckwheat noodles.  Enjoy !!!

The noodles are a little thin for my liking, but good for the style.  The mool naeng myun broth is about as good as it gets, and the hwe naeng myun is the bomb.  (Literally -- remember your Zantac.)  And I don't know why soo yook is so hard to find at other naeng myun places.  Big old skool props for the soo yook.
The kabli gets a meh, but you don't come here for the kalbi.

Super bonus -- Gateaux bakery is next door!

ok... so i seemed to track down some authentic koreans in new jersey... well, apparantly there is a whole settlement.

i know 5 stars is pretty generous, but considering the source, how stoked i was to find korean, i wanted to support and encourage you to visit!

    quick breakdown...

-kalbi was AMAZINGLY tender, juicy and oh so flavorful! loved it.
-seafood pancake was so good (first time ever) and HUGE!
-service was so friendly, almost like my long lost korean mamma, she was very doting and attentive.
-regret not actually getting their namesake :( nangmyun as every other authentic korean (i just look like one) BUT next time back visiting my Man's family, we will revisit and i will do as the homeland peeps do.

this is authentic korean food, casual, simple, don't expect your usual big metro korean menu, this is more of a casual cafe-ish eatery.  but what it does, it does delicious! so stoked to have found it when with my Man and his mom.  loved showing her a korean experience, ha.

Coming from the DC area to visit our friend, we come here for dinner. Located in a very unexciting business complex, everything about this place was screaming mediocre, up until the point you are seated and served some piping hot soup broth from a thermos/carafe, and then you realize there's something different about this place.

The banchan is the next thing to come out, and pretty much everything was delicious. I especially appreciated the hard boiled eggs halves. Koreans believe eating a hard boiled egg will coat the inside of the stomach and aids in digestion of the buckwheat noodles.

The soo-yook was delicious...and probably my first time ordering this at a restaurant. I especially liked the pa-moo-chim (shredded scallions) and garlic on top. The Nengmyun was good as well. If I had any complaint, it might be that the soup base could have been ice-cold. It's not unusual for restaurants to serve it with a sort of icy slush on top...which is INCREDIBLY refreshing during the dog days of summer....oh and it would have been nice if they also had the horseradish or wasabi in addition to the typical mustard.

It's a shame I live hundreds of miles away. I do highly recommend this place. I'm surprised there is only one other review. This is truly an incredible find.

Introduced to this restaurant from a Korean friend.  Very authentic cold buckwheat noodle soups, as well as small assortment of other dishes.  Great dumplings with wafer thin skin, hot tofu soups and some standard Korean fare.  The noodles are the star here.  Made from scratch and very chewy, al dente in texture. The real deal.
Amazing no one has posted a review yet.  Located in a pocket of a shopping center, it may be difficult to find but worth it.
