This review is more about the service and kitchen more so than it is about the comedy; after all, this is a comedy club. Keep in mind there is a 2 drink minimum per person as well.
My girls and I went last Saturday night to see Impractical Jokers  Walked up the box offices got our tickets and got a large sharpie X on our left hands. I went first and mine was so large that all my friends after me asked for a 'smaller X' Way to make me look like I'm underage. The rest of the evening I proceeded to get carded everywhere we went! Thanks for that one!  How about a stamp or a wristband what are you guys in the 80's?
We got there early for our VIP meet and greet, that was supposed to start at 5:15pm. Â We got there a little late and at 6 pm everyone was still waiting in line??? Â There was no free drink that went along w/ this experience, no champagne reception, no bottle of bud so don't expect to much. Essentially we paid $120 for 5 to 10 mins for time and some photos. Â We were the last group to meet them. Â After we took pictures the usher escorted us back outside to the waiting room...only to turn around again and have all the VIP tickets to line up again for seating. Can one say Chinese fire drill? Â We all thought this was pretty dumb why didn't they just leave us in there? Â So we lined up again, waited some more, and finally were sat down. Â
Our waiter was very nice and greeted us promptly. Â We ordered drinks and spinach dip to share as the show started at 7 and we all skipped lunch. Â After looking at the menu, and I remembered their food being good, we all were very challenged at what to order. I really wanted the buffalo chicken wrap w/ grilled chicken instead of fried chicken and blue cheese dressing on the side, my friend said that sounded fab to her as well, and she'd like the same think as long as the kitchen could do it. Well guess what.... the kitchen said "no" (which I hate).
I had ordered a back-up meal steak salad, dressing on the side just in case. My friend had not, so she ordered Cesar salad add chicken, dressing on the side. Mind you she put her order in last. Her food came out in 5 mins; whereas, ours was among the missing. I think the thing that pissed her and I off the most was the grilled chicken was already pre-shredded and served on the side in a bowl. So to substitute the grilled chicken vs fried chicken probably would've saved the kitchen time as it looked like it was prepared much earlier and was cold not hot. Â And they served the dressing on the salad.
We waited about 10 mins, after checking in with our waiter as the whereabouts of the rest of our food, and the other 3 of us got our meals. My steak was very tough, almost inedible (in fact I only ate half of it) and came with the dressing on the salad INSTEAD of on the side. Â My veggie friend had an EXTREMELY hard time finding anything to eat on the menu and settled on a salad (vinaigrette instead of ranch/blue cheese) Â & the pretzel sticks (cheese sauce which she doesn't eat on the side). Guess what. Dressing is messed up again...her salad was covered in dressing that she didn't eat so she had to send it back. So poor thing had to wait some more.
Now mind you, we paid $60 per person for our tickets and we drank and ate. They include tip on the bill, whether you like it or not, AND also don't have the waiters disclose that to you, something I also hate. Our bill for drinks and food for 4 people with very sub par food was $172. So, it landed up being a $100 experience for each of us.
IF I were to go back, and that is very doubtful, I would not eat there. I would eat before and opt for the later show. I remember going here about 5 years ago and the food being very good, but what they have done to the menu is subpar and full of fatty choices. Even their grilled chicken is served w/ butter soaked green beans and mashed potatoes.
It seems the Improv is another functionality of the terrible experiences the HardRock seems to be consistently delivering these days.
Went here because a friend had purchased tickets for a show. The place is nice and roomy. However, they fill the place to capacity, so make sure you get there early for a good seat. The drinks are VERY HIGH and you HAVE TO PURCHASE AT MINIMUM 2 DRINKS ( it's their policy?!). Anyway, a good place to hang with friends for a laugh. Just make sure you go when it's a comedian that you have heard of LOL. I would definitely try it out again.
Review Source:This Improv gets some pretty famous acts to perform here; however, the local (and unheard of) comedians tend to be funnier than the national acts. Â The club itself is not bad and they just redid their menu which was ever so needed. Â The food is on par with any venue of this sort. Â The waiters and waitresses are hit or miss. Â I've had really good ones and had really bad ones. Â Some of them don't hound you for the two drink minimum as long as you order food and at least one drink. Â Others will keep reminding you about that second drink no matter what you order. Â
The showroom is nice and open and there aren't any terrible seats in the house. Â
I'm not a huge fan of stand up comedy but I do like going to this venue.
Great place to go if you like comedy and want to have a fun activity to do on the weekend. This place is located in the hard rock so easy to grab a meal and see a show. I wouldn't recommend you eating in here looks like fried bar food. Â They have a 2 drink minimum a person but it doesn't necessarily have to be alcoholic. Place was packed I saw Paul Rodriguez. Nice and clean inside we got lucky and landed a booth table. If you are into comedy shows check this place out they get some pretty decent comedians too. The good thing is because they serve food there is no smoking so makes the atmosphere nicer.
Review Source:This area is awesome and perfect for the nightlife. Â The place is cool and have a decent staff. Â There is a minimum 2 drink per person, in which the drinks are quite expensive. Â I didn't try the food, but it didn't seem that appetizing from the person who sits arm to arm to me. Â The comedians were funny, and I cried laughing all night.
Review Source:First time here and I think the place is great. The drinks are PRICEY and Improv requires a 2-drink minimum when you purchase the ticket... I didn't order any food (ate earlier) but by going on other yelpers reviews, it looks like I won't eat here... If you want a good laugh though, perfect place to go
Review Source:Food - ATROCIOUS.
Service - Even worse than food.
I do not need to say more, but I will.
I would never, ever eat here again. Wanting to get good seats, we arrived early. After we were taken to our table the waitress took over half an hour to take our food and beverage orders. Despite being one of the first patrons into the club, the tables in our section were one of the last to be served. Â Even after getting our drinks, the waitress forgot about our food order, causing another half hour to 45 minute delay. Â Most establishments, when they forget to place your order, management or even the waitress apologizes. Â Our waitress simply did not care. Once the food arrived, it was simply atrocious. I ordered a burger. It is hard to mess up a burger, but this place did. As I bit into the burger, it crumbled into pieces and tasted disgusting. Â We also ordered nachos with steak, but were brought nachos with chicken.
If you come here, eat before hand.
DO NOT EAT HERE.
I like the Hollywood Improv alot more than Miami. Mainly because its an open room with no walls blocking views.
Saw Deray Davis and he was amazing. Show started on time and had a great server. Wasnt in the mood to spend hundreds of dollars so just ordered 2 bottles of water for my two drink min which was $10.00 plus time.
After show Wet Willies is right outside and your able to grab a drink and walk around hardrock Hotel and Casino
This place is horrible! A friend of my wife likes doing comedy and is a pretty funny guy. He asked us to grab as many friends as we could and to come out and support him..he left us a few "free" passes. When we walked in, we noticed there was a two drink minimum...ok! They sat us down with menus and the waiter came over and asked us what we wanted, we asked for a couple of minutes to look at the menu and wine list. We did not see him for about another 20 minutes. So the emcee gets on stage and almost immediately gets vulgar.....c'mon dude! Well, it just kept getting worse. Each Comedian got to do 3-5 minutes....hardly enough time to get warmed up. Nevertheless, about 15 minutes later the waiter asked if we wanted out "next" drink...all our glasses were still over half full. There were maybe 4 funny people out of 15-18 comedians. When we did order our second round of drinks, the waiter also asked if we wanted to cash out? Don't let the door hit you! Now I get it, there was a second show coming in........hmmmm. This is not going to be a long night at the Improv...get 'em in, get 'em out, get their cash! The drinks are very pricey, the comedy was bad, the service was sketchy and the general attitude is sketchy....not many folks laughing. The few tourists there looked mortified! So I guess you could say it is not what you imagine a good comedy club to be! It's very impersonal actually.
If you really want to laugh, you would be better of staying at home and watching the Republican Primaries on FOX News......now that is comedy!
When in Fort Lauderdale we love to visit the Hard Rock Casino. My friend knew someone doing stand up at The Improv so a large group of us went. It turned out it was a stand up grad show. The emcee/host was great. I thought he kept the show moving at a great pace. The students all did a great job for the most part and the great energy in the room was fueling that. The service is a different energy from the show. We started with a nice young girl who said she would be our waitress. She seated us right away and with a smile took our drink order. Sometime later she stopped by to let us know the drinks would be out shortly. A young man appeared after that and said he would be taking our table. The drinks were served and the show started. Some of us ordered a second round since it was a two drink minimum. I already had two beers. But this guy stopped by the table and insisted that I had not. Meanwhile the show is going on and he is standing in front of our table accusing me of not. Once everyone at the table agreed that I had he then pointed the finger at someone else. My friend and I ordered another beer to split just so this guy would move and we could enjoy the show. I paid for this tab and it was a good thing he included gratuity. Overall we enjoyed the show. So if the wait staff could step it up the experience would be 5 stars.
Review Source:only giving it 1 star cause there is not really a bad seat in the house but the food sucks, the service sucks, the cocktails sucked! i felt so ripped off!!! over-priced and average food court type food! mozzarella sticks were not even sticks! they were flat, nasty things with the cheese already oozing out and $9.00 for only 4 of them! and they make you order 2 drinks, next time IF i go see a performer i will NOT eat there and i will order 2 coca cola's for my minimum! my Mojito's were way too sweet and were weak! it was only me 1 person and with the ticket, food and drinks i spent almost $75!!!!!!! i left there hungry and not even tipsy!!!!!!
Review Source:I would imagine this is an awesome experience for those that love comedy. Different and fun date night outing. Glad I gave it a shot, ONCE. Â Prob wouldn't go back unless it was with a group of friends to hang out and have some laughs. Â The food was average. Â Drinks the same. Â And you def don't go there for the service.
Review Source:We have seen two great shows here: Tom Arnold and Rob Schneider.
Small, intimate, clean venue and it is easy enough considering location to get too. I think for a unique night out, you can't beat it.
Here is why I could not go 4 stars. The wait staff are pleasant but I think they are stretched too thin and the food is just OK. For a snack, it is a quick fix, but I would eat before going if you are a foodie.
Enjoy the show!
We have been going to the Improv Comedy Club since it opened. Â We always enjoy ourselves there. Â Last week we received an offer for 4 free tickets for the Adam Ferrara show. Â We belong to the birthday club and the tickets were offered for that. We called and made reservations for Sunday's evening show. Â When we arrived at the box office, we were told there weren't any more tickets available. Â But we had a reservation! Â No matter, there were no tickets. Â We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday, and this was a major disappointment to us! Â They over-booked the show and many others were turned away that had reservations. Â They didn't even offer us anything for a future time! Â
The problem was they over-booked, and that should not happen.
Very poor management
Had a blast because I went to to see the comedians I was hoping to see. the food pricing is actually not that bad and I love that you can order wet willies as your drinks which I really recommend since they have a 2 drink min. I dont like that its random sitting because I was one of the first to walk in and they sat me all the way in the back. Most tables seat 4 so if your party is smaller than that you will be sharing with others. last thing, do not get the signature drinks. Those go for like $17!!!
Review Source:Tony Rock gets a LOT of p*$$y. Â At least that's what he said the other night at the Improv. Â I'm not sure if being Chris Rock's brother has anything to do with it - but Tony Rock is one funny mofo in his own right. Â I would definitely recommend checking him out - just be careful that your wife/girlfriend doesn't disappear backstage after the show....
We checked out the Improv since my wife's boss is a compulsive gambler at the Hard Rock and got comped tickets. Â I haven't been to the Improv since the Mayfair days (insert old fart comments here). Â
Surprisingly this improv looks almost exactly like I remember the one in the grove looking like. Â There is a 2 drink minimum here, although I think it is pretty lame they still hold you to this even if you are ordering food. Â The house specialty drinks are pretty weak so stick to the hard stuff or beer.
The food wasn't bad, but wasn't awesome. Â The service was kind of iffy but I guess it's hard to duck down and bring food out between comedians. Â
Overall this is a pretty cool place to go see some comedy acts. Â The venue is small enough so that you can comfortably see the act but large enough that you get a great audience reaction. Â Probably the best part about this place is the location in the Hard Rock so you can continue the party afterward.
Ok, I'd give 5 stars if they didn't have the 2 drink minimum but its not that big of deal.
I've been here several times to see Sebastian Maniscalco, Bobby Lee and last night Jo Koy. Its definitely something fun to do other than the typical movie and a dinner thing. Sometimes they give away free tickets for shows on their facebook page which is great. And as most folks mentioned, there's really not a bad seat in the house and the wait staff is great and they work hard.
This was my first visit to an Improv, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Â My husband and I saw Carlos Mencia here last night.
I'll give the venue itself 5 stars. Â We had great seats and were about 5 ft away from the stage, but it's such a quaint place that you pretty much have a good seat no matter where you're at. Â On the downside, the quaint part also means you'll most likely be bumping elbows with strangers. Â No big deal though.
I will also give the service 5 stars. Â We had 7 drinks total, so he definitely came back to check on us often. Â
The drinks -- they only get 2 stars. Â Most of them tasted just "ok" and I figured something like a daquiri straight out of a machine wouldn't be too expensive. Â Wrong. Â All of our drinks (mixed drinks) ranged from $11-$14, so whoever said $7 average in an earlier review was way off. Â Maybe that's for beer? Â I really don't even mind paying that much for a drink, but I would expect to atleast have a buzz by the end of the night. Â After not feeling the first two froo-froo drinks, I went with 2 more rum & coke's. Â Still nothing. Â Everyone knows comedy is way better when you're drunk! Â fail. Â I'm sure beer is fine, maybe even martinis--but I'd stay away from the "specialty menu. " Â Also, the better-than-sex drink-- is not. Â A few people at my table, including myself, ordered this one and it basically tastes like watered down liquid canteloupe. Â Just a heads up.
The food - I don't know. Â Food at a comedy club didn't sound that great to me, so we ate before the show, so I didn't get to order any, but I can say everyone's around me looked and smelled pretty appetizing. Â Maybe next time.
Went to see Russell Peters. The show was great. The two comedians who opened for him were HILARIOUS. So great. Russell was working the crowd a lot. He was funny but wish he had more prepared jokes.
The actual club was great, our waitress was extremely attentive. I absolutely loved her.
We got front row seats, it was pretty awesome. What I didn't like was that when we were waiting outside to get in... in some sort of "line" it was chaos. Everyone was trying to shove their way to the front, to get closer. Ugh. The funny thing is, you're not seated closer to the stage because you were first in line. It really has nothing to do with that. I wish more people knew that. We were way towards the back and were seated right next to the stage. It was pretty awesome, after putting up with the annoying crowd trying to push through. I think that would be the only downfall of this place, there really is not enough space for the large crowd that forms to get inside. =/
Will definitely go back!
I've been here a few times since it opened and each visit was hilarious! We had our office Christmas party here one year and everyone had a blast. This place is great when you want to go to the Hard Rock, but don't want to sit next to the dirty old man in the casino and aren't down for waking up in the bushes outside of Passions.
Dinner, drinks and laughs...classic good time.
Definitely a great place to go to do something out of the usual dinner and a movie. Â Great for date-night, ladies night, or groups. Â I have been to the comedy club several times, and have always left happier than I went in. Â The drinks are pretty good, though the food on a regular night is what you could get at any bar- the nachos were cold and it tasted like they had put cheese wiz on it, other appetizers that they had were far better, but still I would not say that you would go to Improv for the food. Â So, I would certainly suggest having dinner beforehand. Â The drinks aren't bad, and they have a full bar - after all everyone is funnier after some booze! Â Which could be why there is a two drink minimum. Â
Though there have been a fare share of bad comedians, and I have been witness to some heckling- it is usually only one of the 3-4 performances, the MC is ALWAYS hilarious, and even if it's not the headliner, there is always a comedian that sticks out as exceptionally funny. Â
I have been to Improv for New Years' three years in a row. Â I have done the dinner show and the midnight show. Â I had to go to the dinner show because I had to work the next day one of the times, again, the food was not that bad- but I would for sure prefer going to a nice dinner, and finishing with the midnight show. Â It is pretty much the same show, but without being interrupted several times during the show for your meal, and having more drinks, the crowd is more fun, and the night ends that much better. Â Also, you don't leave wondering what you are going to do for 12am. Â They give you a hat and some party favors also and drop balloons on everyone at midnight, which adds to the evening, and again, why I prefer the midnight show to the earlier dinner show.
The Improv is great! I went with the girls to see some guy that's been on comedy central before, (don't remember his name, sorry lol) and he was pretty funny! its a nice, very clean place and they serve food and drinks. We got a platter from the menu that had chicken tenders, but i wasn't too hot about those. they were like really fried and were just not tasty at all. Besides that, had a great night! Definitely recommend!
Review Source:Improv provides a lot of great entertainment for a night out of town. Went there Thursday night with some coworkers and it was a lot of fun! Tickets are actually free if you call ahead of time to reserve them (up to 4 per person), say you were referred by email/friend, and have ID ready when you pick them up at the counter before the show starts. There is a 2 drink minimum per person, but that basically costs as much as a ticket so it is kind of worth it. Beers cost about $6 a bottle and specialty drinks are around $8 each; regular ticket price is $18 per person.
The place was already packed so we ended up seating near the back, but still had a decent view of the stage. There is no smoking, no flash photography, and no talking on your cellphone during the show; house rules to accommodate everybody I believe. The staff are dressed rather professionally and pretty courteous, but service was kind of slow because of the mass amount of people and having to maneuver in the dark most of the time. The show itself was fun; lots of different types of jokes to be heard, and great atmosphere and crowd participation.
So if you have a sense of humor and want to spend the night out, Improv is great for drinking, laughing, and having a good time!
I've been to this Improv on many occasions, and I always have a good time. First of all, they draw some great comedians, like Greg Fitzgsimmons and Jeffrey Ross. The opening acts are even funny most of the time, and when they're not, that's funny in and of itself. I have to say, though, I'm not a fan of sitting with strangers at a table. We always slip the host at least $5 to get a table for 2. That way, we're not rubbing elbows with weird, swine-fluey people hacking with laughter. They really pack you in here, so there's not always a lot of room for personal space.
The food is pretty standard. They have basic appetizers like nachos and spinach dip, along with some chicken and fish dishes. I've never disliked a food entree, but again, I'm not expecting a Michelin rated meal either. The service is good, and I recognize serving in this style (for a seated show) is difficult. The drinks are fairly priced, or at least less than what you'd spend in South Beach, and yes, there is a two drink minimum. Of course they try to upsell their specialty drinks, but I usually stick with a beer and martini and have a good time.
I've been and ate at the improv a few times now and I HAVE to say that they have AWESOME fries! The burgers are pretty good and inexpensive. If you enjoy having a good time, lots of laugh and burgers then this is your place. I would stay away from the Alfredo Pasta, its not all that tasty. Other than that, enjoy!
Review Source:We ended up at the Improv's bar which is right outside the Theater on my birthday. It was awesome.
It wasn't too packed and there was outside seating. You could go up to the bar or have a waitress get your drinks. Our waitress sometimes took a while, so we ended up going up to the bar. The drinks were inexpensive and really good! Nice, relaxed atmosphere. And for you guys/chicks that are interested, the waitress are scantily dressed. Definitely a place to come back to.
