This is the kind of place I avoided because it looked like all your meals would be served with a side of rat poo. NOT SO.
The food is delicious, they have fantastic fries and a great selection of burgers and sandwiches, some of the best pricing I've seen in town, and fantastic prices on pitchers. It doesn't look special but it's amazing.
Have only been here once on a Wednesday night. Â It was fairly crowded (or so it seemed). Â Loved that there were two dart boards and two pool tables. Â Plenty of other games too (video poker, pinball, etc). Â We ordered the special of the day, which were well drinks for $2. Â They were pretty stiff, and the bartender was friendly. Â We also had to try the fries with blue cheese and bacon. Â YUM. Â A complete gut bomb, but yummy bar food:) Â We will be back.
Review Source:So far, this is my favorite bar in the Euge. It gets pretty busy on the weekend, but if you go on a week night, bar seating is in order. The bartenders have always been friendly. They have a decent selection of beer. There are games for the folks that like doing activities instead of socializing. I have had a few of their food items, and they have all been good (so far). Overall, a great dive-ish bar with lots of different people.
Review Source:Some people really love Jackalope, so maybe it'd be for you, for me it's a little to country. Maybe it's the age range, but something about the clientele just isn't ideal to me as a woman in her late 20s. Food/drinks are fine, prices are fine, just not my favorite (or even top ten) place to go.
Upstairs is usually fairly quiet and has pool and darts, which can be fun.
The first time I ended up here, it was St. Patrick's Day and my friends and I were searching for green beer. They served it and it was disgustingly cheap, just what you long for on a holiday like St. Pattie's Day. We ordered some bar food on this occasion which was when I discovered their cheesy fries. This became the place we wanted to go after turning in term papers or finishing final exams. Yes, you want to go here. Don't even hesitate.
Review Source:This is a very suitable place to get drunk, and maybe a sorta halfway OK place to eat. Good happy hours, free pool on Sundays, free darts, a few pinball machines. Mixed crowd. I was here with a friend once, and two women he was speaking to threatened to fight both of us. I have NO idea what he said to them, but he's a respectful and very articulate guy, even when drunk, so this anecdote should help you get an impression of the types of people this bar attracts. I wasn't even talking to these women. Heck, I didn't so much as look at them a second time (Ugg boots - automatic disqualifier) and they wanted to fight me, too.
Review Source:Great bar, the kind that belongs right by train tracks and rain puddles in Eugene, Ore.
Well, it looks like the owners put it in the right place.
The owners have managed to trap a bunch of elusive beasts and mount their heads on the walls, where they belong. In addition to the stuffed varmints, the lounge has pool, solid bar food, stiff drinks and, usually, a place to sit and BS with your pals.
I look back at my Oregon years, and this is one of the quintessential Eugene swill taverns, along with the likes of Max's, The Cooler and The Horsehead. If you're in the Euge, escape the rain and stare down a rascally rabbit with antlers.
Color me shocked when I come to find that the best time to visit Jackalope Lounge is in the morning. Yes, the nighttime scene is fun and there is always a crowd outside on a nice afternoon but the combination of a solid and well priced breakfast with a kick-ass bloody mary. Hmm, perfect.
Review Source:Hey....I'm a bit tardy in commenting about the Jackalope. Somehow I drafted a short review but saved it instead of posting...anyway - better late than never!
First time to Eugene, OR and the JL was exactly what I was looking for - laid back, fun and a good representaton of the youthfulness of the city.
Beverages and food were tasty ! Good conversations with the locals.
If you like all these things and aren't looking for a snooty place to hang - check it out when in Eugene
There are a lot of bars in Eugene. My roommate and I choose to go to this one more often than not. Whether that says something about the Jackalope, or about us, remains to be seen.
I've actually never eaten food at the Jackalope, although after reading some of the reviews here, I should probably give it a try. Mostly I come here for the excellent (rotating) selection of beers on tap and the laid-back, quintessentially Eugene vibe - a little dirty, a little hippie, but never pretentious.
If you're undecided about which of Eugene's many bars to visit, take a tip from me and my roommate: choose this one. We'll see you there.
This is probably one of the handful of things in Eugene that doesn't completely suck. Â
The food is actually really good. Â Whenever I was there I would have a chicken burger and onion rings. Â The fries and onion rings were extremely delicious and crispy. Â Also, if you are looking for a place to have a few drinks and play a few games this is the place. Â Upstairs you will find two pool tables, a few small tv's, and plenty of pinball and bar games (if I remember correctly - big buck hunter, golf, and bowling).
By far my favourite bar in Eugene!
It's lunch time and two hours to kill before my train's supposed to arrive and whisk me away to Portland. Â As if there's any doubt what I'm going to do in those two hours. Â To the Jackalope!
It's been my thing, my personal little tradition, to spend my two hours wait at the Jackalope knocking back one deliciously strong drink after another and enjoying half of a bacon blue cheese burger, saving the other half for when I wake up hungry on the train. Â This bar had it all: bartenders who got creative with their drinks, making them stiff yet delicious; bartenders who liked to get to know you, make you feel at home and make you laugh; lots of pool tables, darts, lots of seating to enjoy their delicious food. Â Seriously, Country (the cook) makes a mean burger. Â
Because my favorite bartender switched out of the Jackalope to work at McShanes (both owned by the same person) myself and a few other regulars had switched watering holes. However, the Jackalope is one bar where you will guaranteed have a fun time whether alone or with friends. Â Depending on when you go, it can get pretty loud what with karaoke night or the end of finals week. Â Many a good memory here, I highly recommend it to anyone looking to unwind with awesome food, drink, pool, or darts.
I've been here plenty of times, but never worked up the effort to write a review until now. Â What's there to say about the Jackalope Lounge? Â I can never quite remember the name of this place. Â I just call it the Jack a loop or Jack a loo. Â I end up just describing where it's at -- the bar on 5th near the train station. Â This bar is kinda like the bar I'll go to because I want to play pool and don't really want to go to Lucky's. Â This bar is convenient and welcoming. Â The crowd varies here. Â Sometimes I'll see a couple on a date playing darts, another time I saw a birthday party. Â Then there are those people that are waiting for a train, and some regulars and just people hanging out. Â It varies. Â I think that's why I like going here. Â
The beer selection is fine. Â I usually get something on tap. Â The food is good, especially for being a bar.
This place isn't too bad...located right next to the train station. Â We stopped by here Saturday night to play some pool and join the Halloween crowd.
The drinks were good, we didn't eat (even though we were starving) and we had a good time. Â Service was quick and kind, never had to wait one time to get a drink.
Pool tables are in good shape, felts are good, sticks are pretty straight for the most part, only a few crooked cues. Â They have video poker as well, I think only 2 machines from what I seen. Â There wasn't too many younger folks hanging around here.
I was a little surprised that they didn't have much for specials on a night like Halloween...I mean hell, it wouldn't have hurt to knock a buck off wells and taps...
The downstairs section is pretty tight quartered...upstairs is a bit more open, but with a crowd of people the upstairs gets a little crowded too. Â One thing I did like about being upstairs was that they have windows that open and allow fresh air in. Â That was a plus!! I was pretty warm so it was nice having the cool breeze blowing through.
We'll come back down sometime....but wont be the first place we hit up for fun!
My fave bar in Eugene. The food is super tasty and affordable. Friendly fast service and staff and great drinks have made me a regular for years. Love it.
Its off the beaten path by the train station but that thankfully keeps out a lot of that college riff raff and keeps a nice trickle in and out all night. Its rarely so packed that you're uncomfortable, unlike the zoo that the barmuda triangle has become.
Really good food, very affordable. Â The soups are awesome; best BLT's, burgers and steak around and they buy locally. Â
we're not huge drinkers, so we mainly go for the food and kicking back, but it's also great to have some of the local beers. Â Its also fun to say to the bartender "I want something like ..., what can you do?" and then get something new. I've also walked past the kitchen a lot and its always looked fine to me. Â Interesting mix of people, from students and the typical Eugene-ites, to lawyers and other professional-types. Â Very friendly staff. Â We like to try what else is out there, and quite frankly there're not many other places worth going to.
If you are looking for a cheap pace to unwind-Jackalope Lounge is for you. The drinks are good and cheap. The food is cheap and good. Oh-the specials are awesome! My fav. is all day Sunday $3.50 bloody Marys and if you're hungry you can add a $4 eggs and bacon breakfast.
Its really nothing special but you're not paying for special either.
Too big to be cozy, but not big enough that you can get lost in it. Pool tables upstairs, jukebox, even a cigarette machine (seriously, wtf! who has those??).
Only a single bar, but the place really isn't THAT big, and the beer selection is pretty decent, as is the hard liquor.
And... yes... did  I mention it's cheap? Maybe I'm too used to LA prices, but four drinks plus tip cost me barely twenty bucks. The Stoli and cranberry was even in a pint glass, not a little cocktail glass. Granted I could barely taste the vodka, but since I was ending a very, very long day with a LOT of driving, I wasn't in a mood to complain.
Cozy little low key bar right in front of Amtrak. There is seating outside. Two level bar, with pool tables, darts and a few games upstairs. Great greasy bar food. Love the pub burger. It's enormous, but delicious! Totally worth the 5000 calories it probably contains! According to my man, good beers on tap! I love my gin and tonics! Friendly bartenders!
Decent prices!!! Can't beat that!
I only recently started going to the Jackalope Lounge. My cousin dragged me in and I fell in love. Let me tell you something... Â THEY HAVE THE BEST BLOODY MARY'S!!! These bloody mary's are a feel good drink and a great hang over cure. The food is good as well (last night we had the most yummi bacon potato, jalapeno soup) and even when it's busy the bartenders are very nice and friendly!
If you're going during the PM order your drink and head up stairs to get some quite. They have darts, pool, TV, Video Poker and you'll have a great time.
If you're looking for a good hang over drink or a good bowl of soup- Think the Jackalope.
I heart the Jackalope Lounge.
Man, the food is the best dive food I've ever had.
They have daily specials that you can get form lunch
until around 6-ish.
The Philly Cheesesteak is AMAZING.
If you head upstairs, the waitstaff may not get to you right away-but they won't forget you.
Everyone's cool and treats you the same.
Famished after arriving in Eugene with a red eye flight, a "special" friend and I head out to downtown for a snack and some beer. Â I remember it being dark, intimate and lots of friendly people all around, but nothing in the menu seemed enticing. Â Fortunately, I was able to munch on garlic bread and wash it down with some beer just to keep myself from crashing after a 10-hour fast. Â We agreed that the bread would be even more de-lish if it was served with some kind of sauce like marinara or cheese. Â In all, however, this place seemed pretty cool and laid back; it definitely deserved the extra points for serving food late at night.
Review Source:When someone told me that they wanted us to meet them at "Jackalope" I immediately thought *UNLIMITED COOL T-SHIRT POTENTIAL*. Â It's a great name, and you might imagine the possibilities:
Silhouette of a jackalope with name and address below it
Silhouette of a giant jackalope with a person riding it with name and address...
A jack and an alope making a litter of baby jackalopes with a person watching on with interest with names and address...
Etc.
Back to the bar: Â It's on Willamette across from the train station, so the location is kinda cool. Â Nice vibe, great beer selection. Â It's more of an adult place with good local micros and drinks rather than pitchers of bud light, etc. Â From the other reviews, I clearly missed all of the games upstairs, but that's OK. Â It's away from any residential so there was no paranoia about sitting outside at 1am. Â All around a good place to hang out and enjoy. Â
By the way, the actual T-shirt for sale had a knock off of the Jack Daniels label on it. Â Weak! Â
I guess there's always room for improvement.
Full disclosure: Â I generally go to the Jackalope with a friend who is a regular there. Â A regular who keeps a tab at the bar and likes to bring all his friends and buy all their food and drink. Â His monthly tab is more than the rent on my 2 bedroom high rise apartment. Â Needless to say, they take very good care of him. Â As such, I cannot promise that my experience there is indicative of that of the typical patron.
That said, the food and the beer is good, as are the prices (usually).  I'm not alone in thinking so, as the Jackalope was named "Best New Bar" in 2006 by Eugene Weekly.  There are a few caveats though.  Avoid the pork chops.  They aren't bad, but you don't get much for your money.  Personally, I love me some bleu cheese burger, and the fries are great.  The beer selection isn't particularly wide (6 or 8 on tap), and they tend to be heavy on pale ales and IPAs and light on all other styles, but $11 pitchers are hard to argue with, especially for locally brewed Ninkasi ales.  And if you don't like whats on tap, just wait a while, because they do rotate new beers in every few months or so.  Also of note, is the upstairs lounge, where theres lots of room to eat, play pool or darts, and hang out with friends.  All in all, its  anice place to relax with friends and enjoy a beer or 8.
