Alright so, the wait time is usually long.
The wait staff is friendly, attentive and the bread is reeeeeeeally fucking amazing.
Go for the bread. Also go for Grilled Honey Chicken Salad (was my "go to" when I ate meat) and the Mac and Cheese.

Convenient, good food for when you're at Short Hills mall. Classic american fare. Not mind blowing but reliable for good food and service.

Came in and sat down at the bar.  Fairly slow, lots of staff standing around talking.  I was invisible for a good 5 minutes.  No I take that back, they would glance at me and then ignore me.  I finally made eye contact and it was like an enormous burden for them to wait me.  Handed a filthy dirty menu....I didn't order from it.  Sat at the end of the bar and listened to the entire staff argue with each other, swear, and criticise the customers.  I mean, I was sitting right there in front of them and they didn't seem to care.  What a miserable staff and poor management.  Ordered two glasses of the same, more premium Napa Merlot.  But each glass of wine I was served was different, the second was much better than the first, not the same wine...something tells me the first glass was something cheaper and they "accidently" poured me the real thing on the second glass.. When I commented the second glass was somethign different, he showed me the bottle he just poured from, and it was as expected.  I didn't see the other bartender pour the first cheaper glass however.  The check in front of me even showed she ringed in the more expensive Napa Merlot specifically.

Never ever make the mistake of walking into this place again.  I wouldn't be surprised if the miserable staff  don't spit in your food here.  Very surprising, it looked like a decent place.

I am a usual customer at joes American bar and grill and have never been so disappointed and shocked with the quality of the food and the customer service given, starting with the poor drinks served from the bar and ending with the lack of customer service from manager in charge.

On thursday the dinner started with two drinks that Harry spilled on my back and in my purse. Harry was apologetic and the manager Jason Andrews walked over to us and offered his card for dry cleaning services but did not go out of his way to make us feel welcome. He did not even offer to comp anything,Even after we mentioned to him that the drinks being served from the bar were not up to par.  He asked for the bartender to redo the drinks and said he would come back to check on us to see if we were ok and jason was never seen again.

The food that was served was of poor quality. We waited 30 minutes before Ramon another waiter came with bread for the table and no plates and when I asked him for plates he said he would return and did not.  The bread on the hamburger my girlfriend ordered was cold and her sweet potatoes fries looked like mashed potato.  We ordered the fully loaded mashed potato which was far from the term fully loaded we sent it back due to the server bringing a plain potato which then came back with a total of 6 bacon bits. i was in shock.  Carolyn the waitress felt bad and asked for another plate of fries.  We had to have Carolyn return the drinks 3 times and then gave up .  As I left the restaurant I saw Jason Andrews the manager and he made no attempt to approach me .  The bill was 117.00 that should have without a doubt been comped by him after the terrible experience that my friends and I had .  This is definitely not the same great customer service skills and food that will make me come back for more.

Food is OK for a mall ... Most of the times I have been there I was shopping alone and sat at the bar. EVERY TIME two bartenders on and all they did was talk to each other . I HATE THIS .... get a drink after the shift together ... while you are on duty take care of the customers! This has been my experience at least 5 times ....

We ordered fish and chips, half baked chicken , freshly squeezed orange juice and St Charles pie which is their signature dessert. The food tasted great , the fish was cooked perfectly and served with a bed of fries and tartar sauce. The seasoning on the fish was delicious .The baked chicken was packed with flavor and had no oil . I'm in love with their St Charles river pie, which is pie made of coffee ice cream on a chocolate cookie base with toasted almonds and chocolate ganache sauce which is very addictive. The staff was courteous and overall the atmosphere was nice .

Service was subpar to very poor and you are better off going to Panera or TGIFriday's. Yes, its that bad. The lettuce in the salads looked wilted and old. I don't think they put much more effort than dumping the mixed greens from the supermarket. The soup we ordered was room temp. Overall, bleh...I say skip this place.

I love this place. I love it because it's consistently good and it's in the best mall in America!!! Love the salads, they are killer. The wait can sometimes suck but it's worth the wait!! You know it's good when there are so many people there.

When I travel to the Short Hills Mall for work I have dropped by here to eat on occasion. Always packed with people and usually a long wait time.  But I don't know why... the food is good but nothing overly amazing.
Nice menu choices and good service but there are better places to eat at the mall.

Yes, yes, yes we all know the warm bread is amazing and the service is on point. Other than that, pretty average. Food is good, but not special. The neighbor's salad looked good, but I didn't try it.

We didn't have to wait at all, plenty of tables available during lunch time on a Thursday.

Would definitely return as there aren't many dining options at this mall.

I am a Joes regular (Paramus, short hills and in MA) but this location is consistent a let down; I regularly leave feeling guilted into spending twenty dollar for lunch... At a MALL!!!  The over all service at this location is horrific and this 1 star rating reflects that feeling.  The horrible service starts with the blonde bitch ( possible manager) screaming your name for a reservation.... She can be heard on the third floor of Nordstrom...on the other side of the mall and continues with a negligent wait staff and end when you are hat about to walk out because your server is outside smoking when they should be giving you the check.  My tip order take out... Or don't eat here... Joes doesn't care about the customer experience and we shouldn't care about them!

We have been to Joe's many times, and have always enjoyed it. This was our first meal there in quite some time, and I was really shocked with how awful it's become.  Our service was terrible, our food was terrible, and we waited and waited and waited for *everything*.   My burger came out raw,  nothing was hot, except for the bread (which was so scorching hot, I couldn't even touch it), my kids' desserts both came out wrong, my husband's dessert (apple crisp) was so stale it was inedible, and his coffee never came at all.  We would have complained to the waitress about all of this, except after she took our order, we never saw her again.  She never checked to see if things came out alright, she didn't offer us more drinks, nada.  And no one bussed the table the entire meal, so our half-eaten appetizers sat on the table through dessert.  Lovely.

And the piece de resistance? We were there for 2.5 hours! With two young children!! The manager said the issue was that the computers were down and that slowed the kitchen down.  It also required us to wait 25 minutes for our check.  Super fun. To compensate us, he removed the kids desserts from the bill.  Apparently, our time/aggravation/irritation is worth $2.50 to Joe's management.  Thanks for that. We will not be going back, especially after we heard the woman at the table next to us screeching because she found a very long hair in her salad. Ewww!

While shopping stopped in with the wife for lunch. Nothing really good or bad just like any other franchise ex. TGIF , ruby Tuesday , Applebee's . You want a burger, salad,or wings. If your hungry and in the mall ok. But have to say not a favorite.

I am shocked that the Joe's in Short Hills mall is awful, compared to the exceptional one at Garden State Plaza. You would think the restaurant could hold it together in this nice area, but think again. My story regarding Joe's is very short, but I think it's important to let people know.

I came in on a Saturday and although the Short Hills mall was not very crowded, the restaurant was. This may be because it is one of two places to eat in this mall. As we were being seated at our table, I started to be reminded of a dirty Friendly's restaurant where kids have thrown food all over the floor. When I sat down, I looked down at my utensils and saw that both forks, the spoon, and the knives still had FOOD on them. They were placed on top of clean napkins, so I know the table was straightened up after the last diner. When I say food, I don't mean water spots. There was a thick sauce caked on the utensils and it made me sick just looking at it.

Normally I would have just asked for a new set of utensils, but this time I was just a little too turned off and decided to leave. I took one look at the kitchen and realized that I really did not want to eat here. I feel like if anyone is capable of putting down dirty utensils like that, then they are probably not concerned with other cleanliness and safety regulations elsewhere in the restaurant.

How did I make this mistake twice? The first time I was just bone tired and hungry. So I decide to sit at the bar of this crowded joint and have, for once, a glass of wine. I was feeling very casual brass rail - Eddie Bauer style and that's what the place looks like to me. Or to be less charitable, how shall I say it? Golf trash.

My glass of wine tastes like somebody forgot to rinse the soap out of the glasses.

In my life I have never had that happen to me before, so yeah I'm going to come out like a twerp and demand my money back. They gave me another split but once you taste the bleach there's no easy rinsing it out...

So I come back another time and go for a steak. Man, I coulda gone to Sizzler. I get the chunky butt waitress in her polo shirt and chinos who doesn't know what bernaise is, and even if she did they didn't have any. She gives me this look like how could anybody want anything other than A1? Golf trash.

I'm through with Joe's. And now I know why certain people around these parts of New Jersey say certain things about the people who frequent the Short Hills Mall - er uhm excuse me.. The Mall at Short Hills.  More like short wits.

Good service, nice bar, friendly atmosphere, mediocre food.

The menu offers a fair amount of items, but nothing mind-blowing. Their sandwiches and salads are OK, but it is what is is: a chain restaurant situated in a mall.

Since it's in the Short Hills Mall, you'd think the quality would be a bit better, but it's good for families and kids and makes do when you need a bite or cocktail after an exhausting day of shopping.

We ordered take out, and it was ready as promised when we arrived. The crispy chicken was good, and the started bread was yummy.  Everything else, including the ribs, fries, veggies, slaw and onion rings were just okay - kind of flat.

My family and I have been going to Joe's for over 12 years and we love it. Located inside the Mall at Short Hills, t's a casual, all-American bar and grill where the food is good, prices are reasonable, and the service is always friendly. If you're looking for flavors that'll blow your mind, this place isn't for you, but you can always count on consistently solid food like their cheeseburgers, spinach artichoke dip, and blackened chicken pasta. Their chocolate milkshakes are amazing too. Oh also, their bread is UNREAL - best bread you have ever tasted... trust me. Try to make a reservation on weekend nights because people are usually waiting outside for tables after shopping all day.

If you tried to eat gluten free at Joe's before, and gave up like I did, go back! They're now offering GF hamburger buns and fries, GF pizzas and gluten-free penne pasta in their pasta dishes!

They took it very seriously and sent a manager out to ensure that it all worked out OK. This is huge for me, as just worrying about being "glutened" is enough to ruin a meal. You know the feeling!

Blackened chicken pasta took me back to the days of over-eating at The Cheesecake Factory, where I recently had a horrid scrambled egg for dinner because they TOTALLY don't get it!  At Joe's, the penne was al dente and indistinguishable from the "real thing." It really hit the spot.

Thanks, Joe's! Delicious gluten-free Short Hills Mall dinner!

(Now how about some GF dinner rolls (ala Legal Seafood) and some GF fancy cocktails?? A girl can dream!)

Went there for lunch at noon with a group of 5.   It was very dead so it didn't matter that I called the day prior for a reservation.   By 1:00, the place was totally packed, so I'm glad we got there when we did.   Our waitress was amazing and kept the refills coming as soon as we got down to halfway full in our glass, which was great.   She was the best!

We got the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer and the waitress informed us that they no longer serve it with veggies, which was fine.   We ordered pizza, fajitas, salad, and a turkey burger as appetizerrs, and they were all really good.   I'll definitely go back for lunch.

I took my team here for a well deserved lunch and someone on my team warned me to make a reservation for lunch, yes for lunch...because he says it gets busy. I laughed at him but heeded his advice to make a reservation. Thank God I did...at noon this place goes from 2 souls to an all out frenzy. It's like people came out of the ceiling and under ground or something. I literally blinked and this place was full. And it's a big restaurant. Anyway onto the food and service.
Food is you usual bar & grill fare: burgers, chicken sandwiches, salads, apps...etc. It's hit or miss. But what was a hot was: calamari (crispy, not to flaky and the breading was light color wise which is a great sign), buffalo chicken strips (non breaded, spicy but not particularly something I would reorder, they tasted a bit freezer-burnish), nachos (the cheese was not even melted which to me is a bad sign, the chicken tasted freezer-burnish and the chips were salty)...but the winner is their bread they bring out (you don't even have to pay for it...woo hoo)...hot out of the oven and served with whipped, soft butter...oh so heavenly...yum-mee!
Onto the main course. I had the turkey burger. It was just ok. A bit on a lot of pepper side and that's the only thing I tasted most of the time. They do add a spicy 1000 Island but it's not even noticeable. I would not order the fries...they are large cut, burnt tasting and not very good. Go with a baked potato or sweet potato fries or even mashed...
Now the best part of the lunch was our ultra friendly, awesome, prompt and attentive server. She was absolutely the best I have experienced in a long time. She was funny and so very helpful. I wish I could say her name but I won't. I will just say she had a British accent. =)
    Food: 2.5 Stars
Price: 2 Stars ($11+ for a burger that's not even that big or good)
    Service: 5 Stars
    ENJOY!!!

Food is nothing special but serviceable.

You'll probably have to wait to get a table and will have to deal with tons of strollers.

All sort of typical for mall restaurants.  Good thing the mall itself is so good.

I come to Short Hills Mall often. I'm there so much that my GPS wants to make it my home location. And for as many times as I've been there, I have not eaten at Joe's American Bar & Grill ... until last night.

    What a fool I've been.

After a long day of Christmas shopping, my boyfriend & I worked up an appetite. We went right in, no wait (it was late on a Wednesday - I've seen the massive lines before though). Our waitress, Jen, was AMAZING. I asked if the Calamari appetizer had tentacles; it did, but she said she would try to ask them to cook me a batch without tentacles and peppers! "It might take a little longer. Is that ok?" Lady, if you're going to ask the staff to go out of their way to make something extra delicious just for me, take all the time you need! The Calamari came out in about 15 minutes with perfect little Os, crispy & delicious, and not a tentacle in sight.

I had the Angelhair Pasta with Chicken, & he had the Filet Mignon with Rice & soup. Both dishes were absolutely perfect. My portion was pretty huge, so I ended up taking half of it home (bonus dinner!). We both had wine as well. Our bill came to about $65, which is more than reasonable.

We had a great time. The meal was exactly what we needed after our long day. Jen was attentive and she really went above & beyond with my special requests. I spent the rest of the dinner wondering why I waited so long to try Joe's.

Don't make the same mistake I did!

Grim corporate chow in a very upscale (read pretentious) setting
I was greatly disappointed in the food quality at Joe's. Yet they line up for what seems like hours to eat at this eating establishment that serves mostly corporate cafeteria food- located at the Short Hills Mall.  The fuel they serve under the guise of food- lacks spark or passion.
My onion soup (eaten at the bar) came absolute incinerated from under the salamander. The stock was burnt as well.  I complained and sent it back.  Instead of providing a new cup, with new cheese, they laid a slice of new cheese over the scorched cheese and burnt stock.  It was so unpleasant and the inexperience of their manager and the kitchen staff made me feel like I was wrong for asking for a new cup of soup.

I cannot give them any more than one star.. Even that is a stretch.  But the masses will throng to Joe's.. It's just a crowded mall restaurant.  Nothing more.

As a local family, we have been coming by for many years, and even though I've moved, it's a place I will probably frequent with the family when I'm back visiting my parents. After over a decade, they've never let us down. We also bring relatives when they visit.

The price may be higher than the Sbarros or CPK in the mall, but the portions are very generous, the service is great and professional, and the food is well-made. The bread is awesome. I know its complimentary and not suppose to be the highlight of the meal, but it really is awesome.

There is often a wait around dinner, especially on weekends or toward the end of the week. Stop by the restaurant, leave you party's name and go shop around the mall for a bit.

We were here because someone recommended it.

All I can say:  Ok traditional American food.  I had the Ahi Tuna Salad and Chicken Quesadilla.

Service was good, as the waitress never let my Diet Coke glass empty.

Every time I go to the Short Hills Mall, I make sure to stop into Joe's.

The Staff is always friendly, and although there is usually a wait, the wait usually isn't that bad. (Plus you have the mall right there so if there is a wait you can always browse what the stores have)

Great Bread to Start your meal right

My Girlfriend always starts off with soup, it is very good here.

The Portions are sized very well, which justifies the price.

Great array of meals, and drinks.

I've been going to this place, which is located in the Short Hills Mall, for over ten years. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal here. The food is consistently good, and as a result there is always a wait. I don't think they take reservations so if you plan on eating there and shopping, put your name on the list before you walk around the mall.

That being said there are a few items I would like to mention. The crabcakes are great--not big but made with real crab...they come with sweet potato fries which are my favorite...a different spin on the traditional french fry. Their nachos are great--so is the spinach dip and basically all the appetizers. Additionally, the service couldn't be better...the staff is great with kids.

I would describe this place as a higher end Fridays if there is such a thing. You get the standard American fare (name is appropos) but at a more refined establishment and higher quality.

    The good:

    1)  Location, location, location!  Does it get any better for Jersey than the Mall at Short Hills?

    2)  Pink Sangria.  Contained so many different kinds of alcohol that I thought I might fall asleep at the table before lunch was over if I ordered one!  But it was so light and refreshing.  Made me think of summertime.

    3)  Fresh, warm bread and butter.  Enough said.

    4)  Service was efficient, if not overly friendly.  Hey, it's North Jersey, what do you expect?

    The "eh":

    1)  I ordered a special grilled cheese, with fontina, american, tomato and bacon, on challah bread.  I wasn't overly impressed, it was just an ok sandwich.  And unfortunately, it was grilled a little too long (bread was nearly black in some spots)!

    2)  Atmosphere is akin to a Ruby Tuesday's or Applebee's.  You'll feel like you've stepped OUT of the upscale Mall at Short Hills.  Don't worry about being underdressed, the vibe is totally casual.

Next time, I think I'd rather try Paparazzi.

Food here is much better than your typical beer and burger joint. Cobb salad is a fave, and the burgers are huge. $50 or so lunch for 2 with app. Pricey drinks so stick to non-alcoholic if you can.

Service is always better than average, despite the fact it is always busy here. Piece of advice, get to the mall, put your name on the list, shop for an hour, come back and your table will be ready.  When they say the wait is 60 minutes, it really is.

The same great price as  Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays or Fridays but better quality food and service!
I keep forgetting that this place is so much better than going to all those other chains because this restaurant is inside Short Hills Mall. The food is much better but your still paying the same great price you do at any other restaurant. I had the New England Clam Chowder in a bowl and fried calamari as an appetizer. My cousin had the chicken club which was huge and enough for a serving for two fyi.

    Breakdown:
Fried calamari comes with fried red peppers as well. It was Crunchy, not oily and not chewy at all! The sauce was great! I kinda didn't finish the fried red peppers since it just got a little to spicy for me towards the end but the calamari was great! 3.5/5

New England Clam Chowder Bread Bowl was really rich and thick. This chowder was probably the creamiest I've ever had and the richest but it was still good. It got a little heavy towards the end, but what do you expect from clam chowder in a bowl of bread? It's also great since you get free bread at the beginning of the meal! 3.75/5

I would've grabbed dessert but I was really maxing out my stomach. If I had any more food I just don't know how I would be able to stand up. Why the 4 stars? I've gone here multiple times and found each time to be pretty good.

I recently spent 10 weeks working on assignment not too far from here and occasionally came over to the mall for a change of scenery after work. I concur with the average of the reviews here. It can be quite noisy. The food is pretty good. I've never had poor service, and the prices are VERY attractive considering the environment. I've also never had to wait for a seat, not even 2 minutes.

I would certainly come back, especially whenever I'm stricken with the desire to cry over $100,000 jewelry and $200,000 cars sitting out on display. :-/

The Manager Raymond is RUDE AND DISHONEST

We were there for Mother's day.  During the meal, my mom pulled something out of her mouth.  It turned out to be a HUGE DISGUSTING DIRTY THUMBNAIL that looked like it had been freshly chewed off.

I confronted the manager RAYMOND (he is a middle aged short stout guy with white/gray hair).  He took the nail and it seemed like he and a bunch of other managers huddled around to examine it.  He didn't even apologize at first!  He then came back, with the nail wrapped in a napkin.  He LIED STRAIGHT TO MY FACE and said that it was not a nail...but a piece of PLASTIC! (like that is much better). Then I said, "wait are you sure?  I am pretty sure my entire family agreed it was a nail (we usually wave off most things and are very understanding), are you positive?  let's look at it under the light."  He then REFUSED to unwrap the finger nail from the napkin...and said it is DEFINITLY not a nail....but then he said, "however whatever it is it shouldn't be in your soup"

At that point I was very angry that he had LIED to me and tried to cover it up, instead of apologizing.  He then preceded to avoid us the entire night without even a sorry...and it was only after the meal that our waiter handed us a paper to fill out.

I was FURIOUS by then but we finished our dinner and just made a joke out of the incident....Now I can never drink clam chowder again with being paranoid....my mother was so fond of the place too....

NEVER GOING BACK HERE AGAIN even though its my mall =[  how sad

GFMF = good, for mall food.

I had a bacon cheeseburger, which came medium-rare as requested. From reading the other reviews, this is the sort of place which will impress you if you're wowed by free bread, over-sized portions, or the ability to make reservations. I'm not as easily impressed. The food was solid, and a better option than most malls can offer, but nothing special. The staff all wear stars & stripes ties: klassy.

Good food, long wait. We arrived on Friday night around 6:45 and they told us the wait would be about 1:15. We ended up being seated in just over an hour. In the meantime, we headed over to the bar for a drink. The chairs on the bar were all taken, but there is a line of stools and a long table behind the bar counter where were were able to sit, relax & have a place to put our beers. The bartender even came out from behind the bar at one point and up and down the line of stools to see if we needed another round.  Was not expecting that!

As soon as we sat down the waitress came over and brought us fresh warm bread to the table (providing bread always gives a restaurant bonus points in my book). I ordered the french dip sandwich which very good and my boyfriend enjoyed his burger a lot as well. Prices for the sandwiches/burgers are reasonable.

Note: one thing I noticed when I went to put our name on the list was that it appeared that some people had called ahead to get their names on the list before they arrived. If this is in fact allowed, I would recommend doing this to cut down on the waiting time once you get there.

The food is always good. The downside is the wait.

My advice - once you enter the mall, put your name down on the list at Joe's, take your time shopping at the mall, and come back to eat. By the time you're done browsing, your table will be ready for you.

I've been to a Joe's in the Garden State Plaza, and it was NOT this bad.

    1. Waitress starts off by not asking if we want beverages or reading the specials, but asking what we'd like for dinner.
    2. She brings over some bread and butter and literally tosses the butter from the bread basket on to the table.  Like, flings it like a teeny frisbee.
    3. I wanted lemon in my water, which isn't a big deal, especially in a mall like Short Hills, but apparently asking for it THREE TIMES isn't enough to make it happen quickly.  I sat across from a woman with a face lift and lips the size of my face, and I couldn't get a lemon? Jesus christ.
    4. Boyfriend ordered steak and who the fuck knew when you said medium, it meant well done and completely charred all over? AND NO SEASONING WHATSOVER?  Gross. Not expecting Ruth's Chris, but expecting better than a day old Burger King burger.
    5. Also, appetizers THEN meals not apps AND meals. Is this a difficult concept?

The only perk of this entire dining experience was that they switched our terrible waitress in the middle of the meal to a great waiter named Dan.  A terrible $50 dinner. Joe's, you suck.

My review is very biased since my family are like regulars here but if you are in the Short Hills Mall and want a good meal that isn't too pricey compared to Legal Seafood, i would check this place out.

Great burgers! They are really good and usually what I get. The menu is pretty simple but the food is great.

The staff is great and fun! I can't say anything bad about the staff. One thing is that there is always a line for lunch and dinner since the mall is always packed. I guess it is good to put a name down and you can walk around the mall but if you are local i would try calling in first.

    Can't go wrong with Joe's!
