Come here every year when we are in town. Menu doesn't change a huge amount, but the food is fabulous.

Great cocktails, superb fish courses and a really great cheese menu :-)

Definitely our favorite on Las Olas Boulevard...

We visited Johnny V's - initially for a drink and to try the "cheese board" that had so famously been mentioned by previous reviewers - but ended up staying for dinner. Glad we did.

The bar service - and Jake in particular - was exceptional. Jake quickly picked up on my preference for vodka and was informative and knowledgable as he served up vodka tonics. The cheese board was truly exceptional. Jake, once more, was knowledgable about the dozens and dozens of cheeses we could choose from. Having enjoyed both food and drink at the bar, we asked for a table to enjoy dinner. And enjoy we did!

Not only was our server attentive, the chef sent out a marvelous (complimentary) small soup. The Tuna tartar was delicious. We each got a fish dish. They were both cooked perfectly. Succulent and seasoned with well paired sides.

We really enjoyed Johnny V's and highly recommend it for those visiting Las Olas Blvd.

So I had been to Johnny V awhile ago, maybe 3 years ago, before I actively starting YELP'ing, I didn't remember it being anything great, in fact, I typically skipped over it.

But the other day my friend and I were looking for a much needed after work cocktail and they have a pretty great HH with 50% off wine till 7 pm.  So we headed in. Sat at the bar, got served and greeted right away, and got a nice glass of wine for like $7.

After wine number 2 we decided to order some apps and share 'em. Based on the YELP pix we ordered the grilled shrimp and the veggie pie.  The shrimp were HUGE and so awesome looking the couple next to us at the bar asked what dish it was...which they also promptly ordered!!!  Delicious!

The veggie pie was amazing too. It's all different kinds of layered roasted veggies with some goat cheese in between...think veggie lasagna without noodles. Again, I was impressed.

    So now I'm a believer...I like!

We had a great experience at Johnny Vs. My wife and I ate outside on a Sunday evening. It was a great place for people watching. We had the calamari as our appetizer.  It was very different, but we loved it.  My wife ordered the Mahi fish and I ordered the Short Rib.  Both were amazing!  The Short Rib just melted like chocholate in my mouth.  My wife loved her meal as well.  Our waitress was prompt curtious, and knew the menu very well.  I would highly recommened to anyone spending an evening on Las Olas Blvd.

We ate dinner at Johnny V's on Valentines Day and were extremely satisfied with our experience.  Upon arrival the ladies on the door were friendly and complimentary, our waitress was very customer-centric mixed in with a twist of humor!, the food was incredible, and the ambiance was peaceful, romantic, and we never felt rushed.  The menu is fantastic. We got the Thai bbq ribs to start, I then got the lamb special that included truffle mac n' cheese which I would love to order a bulk supply of!!. My boyfriend got the pork tenderloin and was very pleased with it. For dessert we went for the chocolate sampler and so glad we did as it was 5 small bites of delight!!  We will, without a doubt, go back to Johnny's the next time we're in Fort Lauderdale. Thumbs up!!

Stopped by this place while on Las Olas Blvd. on a slightly cloudy Sunday for brunch.  If you sit outside, this place is a good people watching spot.  We even had some entertainment from the live one man band across the street!  Service is pretty good and every one is really friendly.

    What was ordered:
    Tomato Soup
    Captain Crunch Chicken and Waffles
    Eggs Benedict (potato gratin style)

All of the food was delicious!  The tomato soup was flavorful and came with some tasty grilled cheese.  The chicken and waffles and eggs benedict were fresh and very good.  They do have a limited number of plates of each meal available, so you may not get your favorite if you wait too long in the day.  Great place and would love to come back!

Tried Johnny V during restaurant week.  Ambiance was pretty upscale and cool.  Food was mediocre for the price, with so many other quality options nearby I doubt I will be back.

My first choice in Fort Lauderdale. Great post modern decor, the food here is always perfectly prepared, well portioned, hot and tasty. Try the Bacon Eggs and Toast appetizer and the Braised Short Rib entree, both...... to die for!  Johnny V is the..... Uber Maestro of Flavor! I usually request Jasin the server, he is cynical, he is funny, he is smart, and witty, above all extremely professional. If you're a regular he will grant you a miracle and is always generous with the bread and water.  Don't miss this Las Olas people watching spot, enjoy the outside seating.

Make a reservation for a weekend night. Get a outdoor table. Try something new from the creative menu. Order a couple bottles of wine & enjoy the people watching from Las Olas.

This establishment was recommended by a doctor friend of mine from Boston.  I think I should have asked more questions about the overall service when he raved about the Cheese selections.  My friends and I went on a Monday evening, perhaps most wait staff hate working Monday nights because the attitude certainly reflected that. I tried several times to smile and engage with the waiter, and even asked his name,Pat,but after his initial recommendation of a red wine it was all downhill.  He never once came by the table to ask how anything was. His sidekick did stop by to clear plates and bring clean utensils and pour some wine, but he also lacked any personality.  If your wondering why I am spending so much time on the service and not the food, it was that disappointing.  We have eaten at other high end restaurants on Las Olas and were never treated with such indifference. They both had to walk by our table on their way to order drinks at the bar or food from the kitchen and did not even glance in our direction.  It's not as if the place was busy.  Some couples just had a drink and left. As a matter of fact at one point I saw our waiter sitting at a table in the corner checking his phone.

I had the grouper with conch chowder, crab cakes on a bed of callaloo. The fish was dry,but the conch chowder salvaged it.  The callaloo was undercooked and bitter hardly worth the $35. My friends both had the pork tenderloin is was cooked to their liking. The sweet potatoe hash was different and haricots vert were ok.

He never rushed over with the dessert menus and we sat waiting for about 20 minutes.  At that point we just wanted to leave and my answer was to just bring us the check.  I'll be sure to let my doctor friend know about it when I return home.....maybe he won't be so quick to recommend it to others.

Outstanding.  Made a reservation on a Friday at 7:30 and told them that we were bringing a dog and needed an outdoor table for a party of 5.  They reserved us the best, and only, circular table facing las olas.  For the appetizers, we had the mussels and duck meatballs, both very tasty.  For entrees, we ordered the duck, duck, duck ... the grouper, the rack of lamb, the beef braised short ribs, and the mahi mahi.  Our waitress Rebecca was very knowledgeable of the menu and helped steer us towards chef Johnny's signature dishes.  I had the short ribs which melted in my mouth, they were served with brussel sprouts in a bacon dressing, three large onion rings, and sweet creamy corn.  The dish was presented very well and the mix of flavors was amazing.  Really enjoyed it.  We were so full with the main course alone that we didn't have room for dessert.

Great spot and dare I say the only 5-star dining spot on las olas!!!

We came here once for lunch and once for dinner.  Overall, I was pleased, except for a minor snafu with dinner.

Dinner- Their specials sounded fantastic and we all ordered one of the specials.  Unfortunately, they had run out!  It was fairly early (830) on a Saturday night, so this was disappointing.  The yellowtail ceviche was savory and perfectly prepared, but something was lacking with the mahi mahi.  I can't describe it, but it was just overall pretty meh.

Lunch- Started with the tuna poke, which hit the spot.  The duck meatloaf was rich and decadent as well.  Definitely recommend both!

We popped into this place to have a drink at the bar. The bartender was awesome. We decided to have a couple of appetizers that were amazing. Blue corn crusted calamari and the skillet seared barbecue shrimp! Yum! It was the perfect start to a lovely evening. The menu was intriguing for sure. We will definitely be back for dinner!

Excellent space. Great modern look. One of the more exciting places to eat on Las Olas in my opinion, in particular due to them having an exclusive cheese menu which is 2 full pages long!

Aside from the cheese's, the food was really well done. We got the yellow snapper which came with a truffle, shitake, and potato stuffing (amazing!),spinach, and roasted onions. We also got a roasted beet salad, which also had jicama, melon, spicy pecans, greens and whipped goat cheese. All around lovely tastes.

Pricing was a bit on the steep side for Florida, but even though it was expensive, it was well worth it. Would definitely try this place again!

Surprised by all of the pretty good reviews, really. I guess Floridians aren't used to getting really good food? Ouch. Actually, the food wasn't inedible, although both fish dishes were overcooked and dry, and my Maytag Bleu Cheese salad was watery (I mean, water dripping from the fork). The food isn't the problem in this place, even though it should be much better given the price points and location - It's the overall attitude that somehow, customer service isn't important? That's too bad. I imagine in a "service" business, customer service should be number one? Maybe that's why at 8:00 PM, on a Saturday night, there were only 4 tables?

    Just a thought.

My favorite restaurant right now. I went here for my birthday with a table of 10. I chose this place because I love cheese!! There is a huge cheese menu and I had the waitress select the most popular. Drinking red wine and eating some good cheese was awesome. I had the pork tenderloin, my girl had the duck duck duck. Both were very good.  Desert came with a candle in the middle of a sampler of different chocolates and pastries. Everything was great and I look forward to going back!

I agree with some of the other reviewers. The server was rude and arrogrant. Why the attitude?  I'm giving 3 stars, but it would of been 4.  It was tasty and had excellent presentation.  Next time we'll try the other restaurants in the area.

This is one of my favorite restaurants!  My fiance and I consider ourselves foodies and we've eaten at excellent restaurants on four continents- and this ranks among the best.  Normally, entrees at creative restaurants tend to be major disappointments, but not here!

Recommended: "Bacon, Eggs, and Toast", Duck Meatballs, both the Hearts of Palm and Roasted Beet salads, the Pork Tenderloin, and Yellowtail.  I've also had a Lamb Chop Special that was to die for.  Also, all of the side dishes are perfectly seasoned.

Also, try the cheese platter with the amazing curried apricot jam and the perfectly marinated olives.  We also love a Claret they've been carrying recently.

Went for Thanksgiving. Table for 3 reserved with a few hours notice from opentable. Banquette table was ready as we arrived, host and servers all very happy to be working on a holiday.

Water and bread were served (with an amazing bleu cheese dipping sauce) and drinks were ordered. Chardonnay just as expected. Ginger Mojitos delicious.

Turkey, dressing, gravy, mash, cranberries green beans with mushroom sauce all delicious. Mahi perfect as well. Pumpkin cheesecake better than Cheesecake Factory, chocolate pecan pie delicious and not too sweet. Even a nice tea service.

$28 entree quickly doubles with cocktails and desserts, but worth a splurge for a memorable holiday dinner. We may be back for Christmas!

Everything was top notch, exceptional.  The service was professionally attentive without being intrusive.

We started with a cup of bisque soup with some delicious garlic bread with a goat cheese spread.  We followed that with an order of barbecued mussels, which were the largest and tastiest I have ever had. For our main course I had the short ribs with truffle Mac-n-cheese.  It was lip smacking good.   We also had the fillet of sole stuffed with crab meat over mashed potatoes. It was delicious!

It a place you'll bookmark for another visit.

I did not have high expectations for this place.  I really don't even know why, I just didn't... And I was pleasantly surprised.  It was a delicious meal!

Both the beet and the maytag blue cheese salads were great.  My filet was outstanding.  Melt-in-your-mouth tender with great flavor.  They also gave me a side dish of truffle mac n cheese, which was supposed to be served with the special (lamb chops) but they allowed me to order some as well.  It was good.  I've had better, but this had nice truffle flavor, it was just dry.  The lamb chops (the nightly special) were delicious and lived up to the hype that surrounded them.  Wine list was good with some interesting choices and reasonable prices.

Our service was attentive and helpful when we had questions or wanted suggestions.

I eat here 2-3 times a week, even if it's just carry out.

Upscale, extremely good food. The specials have been consistently amazing. My standouts from the regular menu include the BBQ shrimp, calamari, BBQ salmon, NY strip, and braised short ribs.

The service at the bar is phenomenal. Table service has been a little spottier but generally good.

I have been looking for a great restaurant and finally found one. The food was excellent -great portions , service was super, and yes it is expensive but I don't mind paying for great food! We had the lobster, lobster, lobster appetizer and loved it. For dinner we had the baked stuffed lobster(wow) and sea bass (delicious). Feeling very full, we had wine to drink so we ordered the chocolate cake for dessert and it was fantastic. I left stuffed, happy, and I can't wait to go back.

Stopped in for Happy Hour (small bites & 1/2 price wine) and shared a cheese plate with fabulous wine. The food is always excellent but I confess that this is the first time I've tried the cheese plate. You select 3 or 4 cheeses and its served with olives that are sorta in a martini glass with spicy greens, hazelnut spread, crackly pieces of bread, addictive walnuts and grapes. I had truffled pecorino which makes me weep at the memory, Cashel blue-as good as I remember from IRE and an English cheddar was everything it should be. Wonderful experience munching at the bar and as much as I adore the regular food, I'll be dreaming of wine and cheese for a very long time!

Stopped here for lunch after departing from a cruise on the Allure.  Nice outdoor seating overlooking busy East Las Olas, even on a Sunday for people watching.

The menu had some interesting Latin/Caribbean inspired selections.  Prices were on the high side, but it turned out that portions are generous.  We ordered a bit too much and could not finish  everything.

We got three appetizers.  The truffle fries with lobster dipping sauce were excellent and could easily accommodate two or three people.  The blue corn crusted calamari came with two dipping sauces and was also good, not too greasy.  Trio of jumbo barbecued shrimp came with a spicy sauce and a huge side of potato salad and corn salsa.  We didn't know these portions were so large, and should have stopped there or split an entree at most.  But being foodies, we wanted to explore the menu.

We had two lunch entrees. First was a Jerk grouper burger with side of conch chowder.  The fish here was cooked perfectly and well flavored.  The chowder had a nice tomato base and a slightly spicy flavor - very good.  The other entree was a fish taco, but came out like two large wraps with tasty layers of veggies and well seasoned fish filets.  To provide some color and texture contrast, the dish came with some thick blue corn chips.

A solid restaurant in Fort Lauderdale, an I think a good representation of the type of flavors to expect from the local cuisine.

Man..what a place...so, my chica tells me that she wants to try this place out, since she's heard great things about it...first thing I noticed was the ambiance...very nice.  We made reservations through YELP (shameless plug), and had great seats.  We ordered the quail egg with pork belly, which was simply amazing..we could have had that 3x over!

We also shared a reisling, which was an excellent choice..for the main course, we had the NY strip steak with veggies..it was grilled to perfection..I wasn't a fan of the sweet potato mash, but that's just a personal preference thing.  Finally, we ordered the banana flan, which was also very good.  I'm not a fan of flan, but I have to say..it was a good look..

So, check it out...it may be a little pricey, but worth it..good food in life usually isn't cheap..so get to working some OT, so you can go!

Thursday night business dinner. Horrible service. Plain, mediocre decor. OK mediocre food, but the service was so bad at one point our host had to get up and find a waiter after we sat there a half hour with no one coming to take our order. The duck meatballs our hapless host ordered must have been from Muscovy ducks because they were awful. My associate ordered grouper that appeared to be gray in color... about as appetizing looking as road kill.

What bothered me most was that the prices were so pretentious. Good food, ambiance, and service deserve high prices... but this place has none of those. I lost all respect for the guy supposed to be a local power broker who chose such a horrible place. Must be a local emperor with no clothes thing, only a fool would spend money here

You have redeemed yourself.  I would give 5 stars, but not yet.  When I moved to FTL in 2005, I used to eat here every month, and it was an amazing 5 star experience.  A few years later, it took a total dive and we stopped going.  It has now been 3 years since I decided to give it another shot - and thank you!  I think the good ole, JV is back.  The menu is mouth watering, and so are the entrees.

I had the lobster/shrip cesar salad, which was amazing.  For dinner I had the filet which was cooked to perfection.  My friend had the special, which was scallops on top of braised short rib, on top of truffle mash.... and this was all topped with lobster chunks.  She said it was orgasmic.  They also have a good wine selection.  Service was good.

    Bravo, JV!

I honestly was not expecting much from this Los Olas touristy area - however due to the late hour I was forced to maneuver around the crowds to find something open.

I was immediately seated and presented with a varied menu complete with good pricing. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience overall. The server (Michael) was perhaps the best I've ever had (honestly) - he knew the menu and its ingredients like the back of his hand. He was accommodating and informative and above all - welcoming. How refreshing to experience. The food - both courses - was a perfect blend of flavor, portion size and complimentary parings. My fish was fresh and tasty. They first course salad was delicious. The fresh flavor filled bread and chef provided perk of a tomato bisque was top notch.

Do not eat their mussels unless you don't mind possibly eating/chewing on sand and pearls... wait, that's oysters! I ate my leftovers later by swirling around my mussels in the sauce first and no sand. Maybe that's what I'm supposed to do? When asked they said they clean their mussels by partially rinsing them so that you don't mess up or lose the mussel by playing around/rinsing with it too much. The server or manager actually said something like it's a hit or miss with the mussel cleaning. I'm not sure if that is a sufficient answer even if it almost makes sense. I guess I should appreciate his honesty.

I heard they're veggie pie thing is very tasty. The servers are attentive. Save your quarters for Las Olas parking.

(3.25 stars)  The menu at Johnny V is among the most adventurous I've seen anywhere.  From the small plates (aperetivos) of Thai BBQ lamb ribs, lobster three ways and duck meatballs through the entrees of venison/venison-blueberry sausage, duck trio and ancho cinnamon pork tenderloin, there is some mad creativity in this kitchen.  To their credit, I haven't sampled anything here which didn't at least resemble the appealing menu descriptions.  The lamb ribs and pork tenderloin were my favorites, and were prepared with finesse and a keen knowledge of ingredients.  While the plates are large, the entree accompaniments are not prepared with the same level of attention.

Service here is slow, and seating is unacceptably delayed, with reservations.  Also detracting from the dining experience is the decor.  In summary, Johnny V is a showcase for an extraordinary chef; everything else be damned.

You may have to wait a few minutes to be seated for your reservations, but the wait is well worth it! Super Hostess Amanda helped us get to our table and was very accommodating for the 20 minute wait. Such a lovely person!
Next up, Warm and welcoming waiter Jason S. made us feel relaxed and happy!
Then, Ãœber Chef Johnny Vinczencz' cuisine rules!!!
Check out the  pork belly, quail eggs and toast appetizer: the pork was crunchy and moist and the quail eggs were truly sunny side up. Scrumptious!!
The Duck, duck, duck has a taste of everything for quack lovers: crispy confit leg, sliced breast and a rich stuffing with foie gras.
My dining partner had the Surf and Turf: the buffalo was tender and delicious. The lobster with lobster mash potatoes and truffles really hit the spot.
We had a great time!!! Thank you, Johnny!!!

I went here for Christmas dinner with my parents tonight and all enjoyed our meal. To start out, their bread is fantastic, but be careful of the garlic and bleu cheese dip, as it mostly accentuates the bleu cheese flavors. It's great if you LOVE bleu cheese. Additionally, we were given the smokey tomato soup and goat cheese crostini taster as a chef's treat which was fantastic. My mother also got the beet salad with wild greens, candied walnuts, and goat cheese. It was excellent, especially the dressing.

For our entrees we had the "duck, duck, duck," the sweet cinnamon pork tenderloin with a mango salsa, and the filet mignon. The "duck, duck, duck" had three types of duck (duck breast, duck tenderloin, and a duck stuffing), which were all good, the tenderloin being the most tasty. The pork was well cooked and carried its cinnamon name well. Finally, we all agreed that the filet mignon was the best dish. It was a very large piece of perfectly cooked meat (9 oz. and medium) which had a delicious dry rub and glaze. The mashed potatoes were average, but the filet more than made up for it. I highly recommend getting this dish.

As for dessert, we were recommended by the waiter to try the three berry creme brulee pot pie. Well, good recommendation! It's set in a white chocolate and macadamia nut crust, and was well prepared and delicious. Our last dish was Johnny's Chocolate Cake which was like a large cake version of a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. And don't underestimate the side of malted milk chocolate ice cream. It was good too!

So, all in all, it was a great meal that felt like it happened in Manhattan. Highly recommended and will return

The chef at Johnny V is Johnny Vinczencz, who in the culinary world is better known as the "Caribbean Cowboy" of cooking. Johnny was one of the first chefs who went into imaginative cooking and various trends such as "Fusion," "Nuevo" and "Floribbean."

If you don't have an imaginative palate or harbor distaste for the unique, nonclassical, the out of the ordinary or are not the adventuresome type, Johnny V is not the place for you. If, on the other hand you do have an adventuresome palate along with a yen for the unique and out of the ordinary, you've found your nirvana at Johnny V.

Johnny has the unique talent of making the seemingly ridiculous come out sublime. Blue corn encrusted calamari, pork tenderloin with anchovy and cinnamon, cucumber and pumpkin soups are just a few examples of combinations generally not within ones thought that he manages to combine and bring together.

The restaurant is exquisitely clean with a polite professional wait staff that is knowledgeable as well as helpful in explaining the preparations, the specials and other offering.

Saturday night, I had a wonderful experience at Johnny V's. Since there is no way of giving four and a half stars, I have to round down as there were a few mistakes, albeit minor.

To address the issue of the signage:

The bright red awning reads "Johnny V" on both sides. I am sorry if people find that confusing.

If you feel an extensive wine list, and a great variety of cheeses is appealing, you will definitely appreciate this restaurant. (If not The Cheesecake Factory is right across the street.)

Not only is the wine list all-encompassing, the wait staff is trained weekly on the wines. In addition they have a sommelier (Jerome who was fantastic). Most places don't provide any training. The staff stares at you blankly when you ask about a particular wine.

Rebecca was our server. She was attentive and very knowledgeable about the cheeses, food, and wine. She was wonderful.

To start we had to order the cheese platter. It's all about personal preference but I liked what we ate a lot: wasabi Gouda, mozzarella di bufala, triple cream brie, and Parmesan reggiano. This was served with candied pecans, delicious marinated olives, grapes, and mini toast. If you like cheese (and who doesn't?) it's a no brain-er to order the cheese platter. You can choose as few or many cheeses as you wish.

My main was the fillet. It was tender and tasty. The sauce with it, was superb. Mashed potatoes and something else came with it, but I tried not to eat it. The fillet was over cooked but I did not send it back. (It would have been a waste of food and it was fine.)

My dining companion had the veal chop. Supposedly it was excellent (but I did not try it).

I definitely will be back soon. Check it out. You will not be disappointed if you like modern American cuisine and excellent service.

    Enjoy!

Johnny V was recommended by the concierge at our hotel.  We were looking for a "nice" restaurant with light food for a late dinner.  Johnny V was just right place.  The restaurant is right in the middle of Los Olas area.  It does have a nondescript red awning - as a prior poster complained - but there is an unmistakable large "V" on the awning.  We were seated in the quiet, back area.  The front area was hopping with a lively crowd.  The ambiance is dark, hip, and sophisticated.  The back area is not as well decorated and seems more suited for private parties.

Our waiter, Michael, was a true professional.  There are good and attentive waiters, but Michael was a master of his craft.  We ordered the tapas tasting platter, wild mushroom pancakes, yellow tail snapper (ceviche style), and the chilled shrimp and lobster caesar salad (all appetizers).  Our wine: Kistler 2008 "Noisetiers."

Michael made the perfect order of presentation of the dishes.  A brief explanation of the dishes was provided, without any pretentiousness.  All of the dishes were delicious with beautiful presentation.  We particularly liked the red hot tomatos in the tapas tasting platter; perfectly ripe grape tomatos, marinated with just the right of spicyness.  When our waiter saw how much was enjoyed the tomatos, he gave us the receipe.

Here's a Short story for you:  First, you have to find this place! Too cool or hip to put their name in the front so a diner can actually see it.

Finally finding this place, after phone calls and driving back and forth, the guy is mad at me, overhears my conversation outside his door and tries to yell directions to me while I am on the phone helping our friends that were lost.

"RED AWNING! RED AWNING! Tell them, in the middle of the block, not the one in the corner! (Oh, that's nice there is another red awning?)  and across the street from a hotel!!!", he angrily shouts at me while I have one hand up toward him to stop so I could hear the voice on the other side of the phone.

Oh yea, a nice inviting start to an expensive meal, walked in to a small room full of white table cloths, fancy and empty tables, read the limited lunch menu, had a glass of water, (server had an attitude), the angry man returned to give me another look...  we walked out. They lost a party of 9.

TIP to owner: Get a black sharpie and write your name on your RED AWNING!

    End of story.

Johnny V's restaurant is personally an overrated and oversold restaurant on the growing Las Olas strip.  This isn't to say it is a terrible restaurant, I can just say our experience was far from pleasant.

The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale - Culinary Club took a trip to this restaurant for our quarterly dining experience.  The food that was offered to us sounded amazing, but all of it was badly prepared.

I ordered a lobster bique that had absolutely no lobster flavor.  It was overbearing with the flavor of sherry, and it was served to me cold.  Lobster Bisque is not a cold soup, they tried to argue with me.

My entree which was a strip steak, cooked medium rare, with a twice-baked potato w/ spinach, and black truffle oil.  First my steak was well-done, cut for me, and blood/grease had pooled all over my plate.  Really?  Who sends out a plate like that in a 4-star restaurant?  Not to mention my twice-baked potato was burned on top, not browned, but burnt.  As a chef I find it disrespectful that they would send this type of food out.  I"ll wait another 8-12 minutes for a perfectly cooked, and rested steak.

The desserts were not in their norm either.  Our school's pastry chef used to work there, and her recipes were butchered.  Melted ice cream covered the bottom of our mixed-platter of desserts.  One item had the most bitter flavor I had ever experienced in a dessert, and most of the cakes were dry aside from the pool of ice cream that soaked into the dry cakes.

I'm sure that since our experience things have gotten better, but for me I can confidently say there are MANY restaurants in south florida that are much better for less money.

I was in Las Olas for a night out and I found this place through Yelp. After looking over  the menu, my husband and I decided to try it. We had no reservations and even though it was a Saturday night we were seated immediately (it was roughly around 7:30). It is not a very large place so you are rather close to other tables but I really didn't mind.

Now onto the best part- food!!! I have a love affair with goat cheese so the moment I saw goat cheese on the menu I just had to have it! We started with the spinach and goat cheese empanadas with a fig balsamic vinaigrette. It was absolutely wonderful- the sweetness from the fig balsamic with the mild flavor of the goat cheese complemented each other beautifully. We were served an amuse which consisted of a roasted tomato soup puree which was delightful. There was such depth of flavor I wanted a second serving!

For dinner I went with the grilled Florida dolphin which was very fresh and perfectly cooked. It was served with a cranberry-mango chutney which gave it just the right amount of sweetness. It came with a rock shrimp plantain stuffing that was like nothing I had tried before. My husband had the rack of lamb and he also loved it- it was cooked perfectly.

Overall, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner experience. We really enjoyed the ambiance and the food was definitely something worth repeating. And as a side note,  the chef, Johnny V, appeared on the Food Network's Iron Chef.
