I had a lot of fun at this bar, although it seemed like a lot of Euro kids which is weird, but whatever. I did not like the bartenders at all and that is a reason I will most likely never go back. Or if I do go back I will not spend any money there. I ordered 2 drinks for my friend and I. When the girl made them the glasses were only half full so I asked her why she is charging me for 2 drinks when she didn't even fill the glasses up all the way. She said that I ordered 2 shots, which I absolutely did not. Then this other male bartender said that if you add ice to it then it's a drink and then proceeded to pour a bunch of ice in my glass. I couldn't even believe it. I shouldn't have even tipped them but I did because I'm a nice person.
Review Source:My friends and I head to Edison Park on weekdays or if we want to stay "local" and don't feel like driving into the city. We usually head to Snuggery, but have been to J's a few times as well. I have to say, I was pretty disappointed with my last experience here. When I came here martinis were a $5 special. So I ordered one. The bartender brings it back to me and I hand him $5 + $1 tip, not realizing it was after midnight. He gives me a weird look and says "its $7..its after midnight". Now, maybe this could have been my fault for not paying attention to the time, but considering it was around 12:10/12:15 it would have been nice for him to remind me BEFORE ordering the drink. It's $2, no big deal, but still it caught me off guard. Other than that, I do like the music and the atmosphere here, which is why I am most likely to return eventually.
Review Source:Been in and around the obvious spots in lakeview, wrigleyville, rush street, lincoln park, hubbard street...Each place has its own deal that brings you in, but I still can't figure out what Jay's deal is...I have gone here again and again to see if its maybe just a bad night for me or the bar, whatever, but no, after 8 different visits its the exact same experience every time...
1) Drinks are hysterically over priced, watch them pour you a whiskey coke cause you might as well get one for half the price at the Snappy Dog hot dog joint down the street, they will taste the same. I couldn't believe it, she gave me a snow cone basically (ice stacked above the rim so bad that booze could barely enter the glass)
2) The bartenders will ignore you if they don't know you. They absolutely have no clue, not only myself but two girls, and two other guys i was with were getting overlooked cause the bartender knew other people and served them first, even tho we had stood there for more than ten minutes. Then they continue to have conversations with those people and ignore the rest of the bar, never seen anything like it. And no i was not hammered, no pre-game and it was the first place we went to in EP. This has happened on the majority of the times i've been in there.
3) They never have a crowd in there, if you wanna dance with your mom, or be over ran with the jersey shore, you fit in. You would think half the guys in there are sponsored by under armor skin tight shirts and are going to work out.
Its a lie if they tout they make a ton of money and the neighborhood loves them, no we don't. Serving only 100 -130 people on a weekend night aint shit compared to the other bars in the area.
Otherwise, if you're from the area, as I am and have lived in EP for years, you pretty much have given up on the place. Save your money for better drinks and deals at the 5 other places to go in the area.
Go in there for yourself and see tho, this is only how I feel. But when she ignores you for 15 mins, then tells you its $28 for 3 drinks, you can poop your own pants.
I like J's. They play good music. It's like a classier Snuggery. No set dance floor but everyone is usually just dancing wherever they're standing. They don't have food! But you can walk somewhere and get something and bring it back in. Overall, not a bad place to drink and have some fun!!
Review Source:I love this place... You can't go wrong with $5 martinis... The chocolate martini is very good...One of the bartender's ( I think her name is Jennifer) is great... very friendly and makes an extra effort... You can sit at the bar, grab a table or relax on the couch... This will definitely be  one of my regular hangouts in Edison Park.
Review Source:If your looking for a great time j's is the place. Had a party here with some friends and family and we had an amazing time. I'm for sure coming back. Great owners, bar staff and atmosphere. I cant say enough good stuff about this place. Ask for mike about planning your next event, you wont be disappointed.
Review Source:Here last night, a Saturday night, around 8pm and this huge wide open space was still fairly empty. Â Our little pub crawl was one of two, though they had t-shirts - Overachievers!
I know alot of people are lamenting the loss of unapologetically divey Nicks that used to be at this location. Â But I was never a big fan of dive bars and I never visited Nicks so I won't go there. Â This new place has obviously been remodelled; I like. Â The wide open space with long tables makes it ideal for large groups. Â My guess is they do a little dancing later on in the night. Â There seems to be space for it.
As I mentioned, I was with a group on an Edison Park Holiday Pub Crawl. Â Part of my mission was to find the best Edison Park old fashioned. Â We went to Snuggery, Morettis, Curragh, EPI and here. Â And I'm ready to report, this is the home of the best old fashioned in Edison Park. Â Congratulations J's!
Love what they have done to this place! I'm sorry for the guy who likes to drink his morning away and the chick who is upset by there being a dress code. (Seriously?) Â I think this is exactly what Edison Park needed. You've got The Isle and EPI if you want a regular bar hang out. It's nice to have some place a bit upscale in the neighborhood - and by that I don't mean their prices. Â I think their prices are very reasonable and the service has always been great.
Review Source:Just a short time ago, I had been won over by the new decor and ambiance of what used to be Nick's. I gave if a positive Yelp review for the incredible transformation BUT...
I was in there Friday, 9/23 and to my horror witnessed the following. It about 10 pm. The place was getting busy. There was alot of activity all around the bar where I was sitting. A round of about 8 freshly made shots were lined up across the bar. One of the patrons accidentally broke a wine glass on the bar directly in front of the row of shots. The male bartender (the only guy with a full head of hair behind the bar) quickly helped clean it up. The broken glass passed over the row of shots. I sat a few feet away and wondered if they would trash the shots. The bartender started to pull them off the bar onto a tray and picked them up when the owner (Mike) came up to take the tray. I heard the bartender tell him what had happened and Mike looked at him like "So?". The bartender again explained to him that glass had broken near the shots and signalled as they should be tossed. Mike didn't say anything but took the tray and walked away. I assumed he was going to dump them. I searched the room to see where he went and could not believe when I saw him walking away from a table where a group of unsuspecting partiers were gulping down the shots. I turned and saw the bartender telling another co-worker what had just happened shaking his head. I don't know where Mike went but I did not wait for him to return. I had already paid my tab so I left and do ot plan on ever returning. I will aslo tell everyone I know what I saw.
Apparently, you can clean a place up but in the end once a dive... always a dive. Too bad.
I came hear not knowing what to expect. Previously, it was a a poor excuse for a dive bar but has since been transformed, big-time. Like having been through the recent flooding, the new owners gutted this place,
Exposed brick walls, bright and clean bar area, plenty of seating available with both a seating area of leather couches and wall booths, decent sound system, good food at great prices and enough LCDs to mistake it for Best Buy.
Budweiser's for three bucks? An 18 inch pizza, loaded, for $15? Buckets of beers were also ridiculous.
I'm not sure what the other reviewers were expecting out of a sports bar. But, for what it is, this place is all that one could expect to watch a game. This also wouldn't be a bad place to rent out for parties.
Our servers were also probably the most pleasant and attentive I ever came across as a sports bar. The fact that the place was kind of empty after the Bears game probably didn't hurt.
Not bad at all.
Used to be the local watering hole where a respectable man could drink in the morning away while he waited for his laundry. now is taken over by loud obnoxious music expensive drinks bros and martinis(and most not the ones with to much wine in the gin but the ones made to taste like candy so they can be served in sippy cups to children? Not that sippy cups or children are served there). This place uped the dbag percentile in my slice of Chicago in a region already rife with dbags.
