Quite surprised by all the horrible reviews so thought I'd write them a good one, which they deserve. Cheapest Thai you can find, and it's tasty. Is it the best in Chicago? Probably not, but that doesn't mean it's the worst. Sure, the store front decor is not top notch but most of the time people order for delievery anyway, so if you're eating at home, this is the place to go to. Or just be a sucker and pay more somewhere else. Apparently people have lots of money to spare in Chicago.

Really wanted to give the place 1 stars but that means I would never go back. The place is not nice by any means. Chairs are horrible the tables are old and it just seems like a place that failed a few health inspections. That being said, the lady there was very nice and friendly.
Food: appetizers were disgusting. Fried shrimp pounded flat, picture one of those pink school erasers breaded and fried. Mmmmm. It was escorted by its even uglier friend, the cucumber salad in some crappy peanut oil. Then the soups came. Simple, plain and a little bland. So at this point I'm thinking 1 star. Then the main courses pepper steak and chicken #70 (waitress recommendation). Finally something I could eat. Don't know if it was that good but we were really excited to have something not gross or boring to shovel in our mouthes and we polished off our plates. For that they get a 2nd star.
Overall I'm really upset in all of wickerpark's Chinese food. This place didn't even have Mongolian beef. Pmph.

Really great meals. Excellent & fresh food. Lunch specials are insanely cheap. I know I'm not a huge Yelper. I should say more in detail, but I can say this......I NEVER Yelp unless I really like a place & thinks it deserves recognition. I love fine dining & this place is def a little "hole in the wall" compared to places I usually go, but I honestly still love it. Its rare I repeat restaurants & this will def be one of the few places I will go to over and over again. :) Great, great food. Check it out!

    oh & its BYOB

Ordered To go... Not so good.
    Pad Thai noodles with tofu..bland.
Pad kee Mao chicken.. Not spicy.
Spicy beef salad..not spicy and super dry.
Hopefully their curry or soups are better but I don't see myself ordering noodle s from there again....

Best cheap, quality thai food in the city. Mainly a take out / delivery joint, but I like dining in because the place is quiet, the service is awesome, and they are BYOB. I recommend the vegetable spring rolls (the rice paper is always fresh and sticky), wonton soup (served with generous portions of dumplings and pork slices) and the Pad Keemau Kai. Pot stickers are just average, not their strong suit. Don't forget to ask for the peanut sauce!

Ordered takeout, the food was a horrifying mess.  BBQ pork, up to the top with water.  Last I checked there wasn't water in bbq pork.  The noodles were also filled to the top with water.  Both are inedible, don't waste your money.

Wow.  I guess I forgot to check my own reviews, but I somehow managed to re-order from here some 2 years later and am even more disappointed.

Sweet and sour pork was dis-gussss-ting.   Not edible!  The pork was over fried and dried out, but the breading had been soaking in a super sweet sauce to the point that it arrived soggy.  A troubling dichotomy.

Tofu fried rice tasted like nothing.  We had to bathe it in sriracha in order to get any flavor.

Pot stickers, a relatively safe bet arrived completely burned up and crunchy.  It was like taking granulated charcoal bits out of my teeth, sourced directly from the dumpling wrappers.

This sucks, because everyone I dealt with - from the phone to the delivery guy - was really pleasant.  I really want to like this place, but the quality of the food is just that poor.

I have not had anything that I did not like here. I love this place! They have fantastic vegetarian options and the prices can't be beaten. The service is great and fast. I like the Lard Pag, Vegetable Spring Rolls, and Fried Rice. It would get 5 stars but the place isn't fancy and appropriate for a date etc.

This is my go-to Thai place. Mostly because it's 2 blocks away. I've tried nearly all of the vegetarian dishes: pad thai/woonsen/keemau/siew, pad kanar, pad eggplant, curries, etc. Their eggplant is usually very delicious. The tom yum soup is tasty as well. One can't go wrong with the vegetarian spring rolls. Luc Thang Noodle is always quick for carryout (I've never done delivery) and the staff is friendly, especially one of the younger women frequently working at the counter whose name I do not know. I don't think it's the best Thai food I've had but it's good: 3 stars for the food, 4 stars for the consistency and service. And it's cheap!

Good meat curries, yummy Thai noodles (although a bit atypical- in a good way for the pad thai, not necessarily so good for the lard nar), delicious catfish in a clay pot... You can go anywhere for junky Americanized Chinese fare but I highly suggest going for more ethnic dishes at a place like this! Of course, they probably do a fine job with the easy stuff. Either way, everything is well-priced and I am consistently satisfied with the food here.

They do a good job because the dishes are usually not dripping in grease, but still very flavorful. Also the place has no "decor," but is frequented by policemen grabbing dinner, locals, and once, some sort of large party of men drinking and having an enjoyable dinner together.

As for delivery, they are prompt, with big portions and done by an adorable little Asian elderly man.

An overall solid restaurant. Plus I get a kick out of saying their name. Luc Thaaaang.

I want to give this place 1 star so no one goes. I think this place defines hidden gems.

    1. Food -awesome
    2. Cheap- The food for the price is awesome
    3. Quiet- I like to go to this place because I can eat food next to my house and no one is loud and bothering me.
4.Lunch Special 11-3pm 5.55 for a rice entree a cup of soup, egg roll and a soda. [best deal around]
5 Not a lot of people know about it.

There are shitty resturaunt s/bars that people go to around town because it's shitty and cheap and thats what makes it cool. This place has an ok vibe cheap delicious food and I dont have to worry about people wandering in feeling like they're cool for being in a grungy area. Wicker park is really being taken over and I love that this place exists for what it is.

Anyone who gave this place a bad review is a "foodie" or as I like to call it "fouche-bag"

Not traditional, but a great place nonetheless.

No atmosphere, great basic food for cheap!  I dig their curries a lot

Ate here while visiting my sister who lives walking distance from this joint. I've had lots of thai food in my life and this was a BIG dissapointment. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one was because it was BYOB which I really enjoy.

I ordered the yellow curry with tofu and it was so so watered down. They only gave me two small pieces of tofu as well. Thankfully it was really cheap.

Huge problem in Wicker Park area.
    Too many sushi restaurants.
ZERO reliable chinese or thai restaurant.

Luc Thang is just okay.. My friend says the chinese food is better and I hope so, because the price is pretty reasonable.

I had the Lad Nar noodles and what I got was: Noodles in black bean-ish, flour-thickened gravy with chinese broccoli. Had I not ordered it by name, I would call this more chinese than thai. It tasted like a decent noodle dish but certainly NOT LAD NAR.

My friend had the tofu curry. There was too much bean sprouts and the curry was too weak/watery. Not good curry.

I'm southeast asian chinese and I'm a pretty mean cook for asian food. This ain't authentic Thai. This ain't even fusion thai.

Due to proximity and cost, I think its worth coming back to check out their chinese dishes and entrees.

I don't get the 5 star reviews on this place, its nothing special to travel to the Wicker Park neighborhood for.

Luc Thang is a reliable place to go. They've been around for a long time and the service is very home-body. Not the greatest in terms of quality when you're looking for authentic Thai or Chinese but they definitely will give you a run for the money (which doesn't cost a whole lot).  It definitely satisfies when i'm not in the mood to go anywhere fancy and want to save a couple bucks.

By the way, they took their sign down so be sure to look for the actual storefront name.

    Had the lunch combo today

Chicken Chop Suey, Eggroll, Soup. Ordered a side of potstickers.

There were five tiny pieces of chicken mixed with overcooked vegetables.

    Eggroll tasted funky.

Potstickers were okay but the dipping sauce looked somewhat toxic.

After the first three items, I skipped the soup entirely.

    Won't ever go here again.

Also, what kind of restaurant does NOT have a website or their menu online?

I love finding little hidden neighborhood treasures like this place! Ever since we moved into the area this has been a weekly tradition. It's now to the point that they know our order without asking! Perhaps that makes my review a little biased, but so be it.

The menu is quite diverse offering the basics like fried rice and chow mein, but you can find some pretty interesting entree items like "catfish in a clay pot." My friend Judy got that once--she's A LOT more adventurous than I. :) My standard is a small won ton soup and the basil chicken.

Yet another big plus is it's BYOB. If you're in the area and want cheap Asian, give this place a try!

My brother practically lives down the street from this place, but we were tuckered out so we ordered in. Delivery was pretty quick and the food smelled delicious, but was a little disappointing. Next time I come out to visit I'm going to try some of the dishes boasted about by the other reviewers. I tried the Vietnamese Tom Com Suon. It was pork chops with slices of tomato over rice... it was alright. I don't think I'd get it again. My brother's boyfriend got the Larb Gai and I was pretty jealous because it both looked and smelled amazing, but I was too much of a scaredy-cat to ask for a bite of his.

All in all not bad for being so cheap.

I've been looking for a hole-in-the-wall Chinese joint since I moved to Wicker Park over a year ago. Luc Thang fits the bill perfectly. The food is your typical cheap, greasy Chinese without all the frills of more expensive restaurants, and sometimes that's exactly what I'm looking for.

So far I've had their chicken fried rice and egg rolls. The fried rice had lots of onions and chunks of chicken. No complaints there but I'll pass on the egg rolls and try a different appetizer next time. I'm looking forward to trying out their Vietnamese menu in the future, which will hopefully earn them another star.

They're cheap and decent. The people that work there are very sweet. It's nice because they have a little more variety than your typical takeout.

Would definitely return for  a lunch special (under 6 bucks, gets you entree, rice, egg roll, soup, drink.) Would probably pay a little more for Papajin for a more quality dinner.

Luc Thang is an unpretentious, family-owned pan-Asian restaurant on the edge of Bucktown/Wicker Park. The food is reasonably priced, and the $6 lunch special is a great deal. I usually get the panang curry or beef and chinese broccoli, which comes with tom yum soup and eggroll. Although the owners are Chinese, the menu is mostly Thai and Vietnamese. The Vietnamese food is surprisely authentic. The grilled beef and shrimp eggroll on vermicelli is my favorite dish there. The Vietnamese porkchop and salty shrimps combo or the crispy crepe are also good choices. The restaurant offers delivery service, which comes in quite handy in the Chicago winter.

My boyfriend and I were hungry, and trying to find a new Thai place, as our usual was closed. We found Luc Thang and were a bit disappointed.

I will say it was fast and pretty reasonably priced, however, the food just wasn't that great.

We started out with the Vietnamese spring rolls. While the portions were large, the roll tasted kind of bland and had a basil-y aftertaste. The crab rangoons were pretty good though.

I ordered the Pad See Ewe. It hardly had any chicken in it, and didn't have the sweetness usually found in the dish. I added spicy sauce just to give the dish some flavor because it was so bland.

My boyfriend ordered the Kee Mow. His dish was better than mine, but also rather bland.

It gets an extra star because it is right around the block from me.

Basic MSG Chinese.  I love this place.  No frills, just cheap and tasty chinese favorites.  They actually do have an extensive menu so you can order beyond egg drop soup and cashew chicken.  Try the mini eggrolls, you won't be dissapointed.  They aso have Thai selections.  They are BYOB and don't charge a corkage fee.  Last time I brought a case of beer and the waitress brought out a shovel-full of ice and threw it on top of the beers for us.

Take a date here and see if she ever talks to you again.

M-F for lunch is great too: For around $5.95 you get a pop, soup, eggroll, and entree.  For under $6 in Chicago!!

    I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!

It's been my favorite place to get Thai and Vietnamese food for years!  I've tried lots on the menu and it's GREAT!!  The number 16 Vietnamese grilled beef noodles,  the number 29 Pad Ped Neur Rad Kao, Beef Noodle soup with Thai hot sauce and limes... YUM!!

And for all you safe eaters out there...  try the Pad Thai or the Pad Siew with the crispy noodles... just TRUST ME ON THIS ONE.  They pan fry one side of the noodles super crispy... delicious!

When I lived in Chicago this was one of my go-to spots..

Just great Thai food.  Cheap and extremely tasty.

    I usually get:

    1 Chicken Pad Thai
1 Pad Se Eiw with Beef
    1 Lad Nar with Beef

and sometimes a Catfish in the Clay Pot, all extermely spiced out.

Their Pad Thai is different from most other Thai restaurants.  It's real good, I like the tofu they add in it.  Their Pad Se Eiw and Lad Nar are just fantastic...

The service is always good, and the hostess (owner) is extremely friendly and just really cool.  I see her around sometimes in Chinatown or hanging out in the Northside, just a very cool person...and that always adds to a restaurants arsenal.

If you like thai food this is definitely a place to check out...The food's great, affordable, tasty, (optional spice)....

    and it's really cheap...

My only issue is that parking is a little hard on Ashland.  There are two spots in the back of the restaurant but it's only two spots...

BYOB without a corkage fee.  Fresh, delicious Thai food at an unbeatable price (two entrees and an appetizer for 21 bones? Fuck yeah.).  A seemingly endless menu full of great choices.

This shit should be 5 stars, but I'm gonna knock it down to 4 because the atmosphere is less than desirable.  A little Pizza Hut-ey?

But guess what.  You mother fuckers get that star back because your restaurant's name is basically my name with "Thang" tacked on the end.  Awesome.

I used to really like this place cause it had cheap, decent pad thai.  It wasn't great but it was good in a pinch.  There would constantly be problems with our delivery orders however, typically the lack of correct sauces and chop sticks (even when requested).  Paying less than six bucks for a lot of food makes you forget those little things.

Well today was the last straw.  I checked my order at the door and found no chopsticks, so I asked the delivery driver if he had any in his car.  Of course not.  My roomate was livid, so she called them and asked for some to be brought out during their next delivery.  The guy basically told her that that wasn't going to happen.  I'm like whatever, I'm hungry.  Then I found out they had given us the wrong order.  So I called and here is how the conversation went.

Me:  Hey man, I just got my order and it was wrong, I ordered tofu not chicken.
Douche Bag Chode who answers the phone at a Thai restaurant: No you didn't, you never said tofu.
Me: YES I FUCKING DID SAY TOFU, AND EVEN IF I DIDN"T I SURE AS SHIT DIDN'T FUCKING SAY CHICKEN.  I WANT MY MONEY BACK.
Douche Bag Chode who answers the phone at a Thai restaurant: Now you're just trying to get the food for free, you keep changing your order.
    Me: wah!? huh?  hmmm....
Douche Bag Chode who answers the phone at a Thai restaurant: Look just make sure you give him back the pad thai.
Me:  Oh I'll be sure to give him back the pad thai you little bitch.
    *click*

So now I'm waiting for my money back, I don't think it's gonna happen.

This really sucks cause they've always been nice to me and my co-workers whenever we go in there.  Oh well.

To get my local Chinese/Thai fix, I couldn't ask for anything more.  Tons of vegetarian options & they gladly veganize the dishes.  Plus it's cheap; we ordered the MEE KROB appetizer - crispy rice noodles (highly recommended), pad thai, fried rice, & 2 entrees, for delivery, all for $28.  The tofu is tasty and fresh, cut into strips instead of lame cubes & not all deep-fried & crusty, which can get tiresome.  Leftovers the next day.  Quaint, friendly place.

A nice little family-run restaurant that serves a combination of Thai, Vietnamese, and Chinese dishes.  The food isn't outstanding, but tasty nonetheless.  It's great for take-out if you live in the neighborhood and don't want to fuss with the other, more expensive Thai restaurants in neighborhood.  Try their yummy curry soup and pad siew.  It's close to the Blue Line stop, and I've gotten a quick lunch here after coming home from work.

Although a bit put off by the reviews, I finally went to Luc Thang last week. To play it safe, I ordered the most gushed-about dish: Vietnamese Grilled Beef Noodles.

I have to say, the dish was pretty awesome. Tasty beef, rice noodles, cucumbers, carrots, bean sprouts and glorious mint in a big bowl of happiness. It was enough food for two meals, yet it only cost $5.25.

To my relief, there was none of that 'weird smell' some other reviewer mentioned. The waitress was nice, and polite, if a little shy. It was really quiet on a Saturday afternoon--more people should eat here.

I give it 3.5 stars and I'll definitely be back. The Vietnamese Grilled Beef Noodles alone guarantees I'll be there at least once a month.

If you manage to try their $2.95 curry soup without becoming addicted, you have no soul. I've been coming here for ten years, and I still can't get enough.

Cheap, quiet, and cute restaurant with decent thai food and lots of vegetarian options.

I used to live pretty close to Luc Thang. And the one and only item I ever ordered off their menu, the Vietnamese Grilled Beef Noodles, is seriously on point. Strips of beef grilled to crusty perfection, fresh basil leaves, and an egg roll, all on a bed of cold rice noodles for something like $5. I wish i was eating it right now.

Unfortunately, I can't rate this place based on one dish. Every time I've gotten food from Luc Thang with someone else they have, literally, always been disappointed with their order (as I sit there, wolfing my VGBN).

This is a good spot for take out or delivery.  The restaurant itself lacks incredibly in ambiance and it smells kind of weird - not like a restaurant should.  But the food is good and super cheap, even for Thai.

I am amazed at the low ratings this place has gotten on yelp...
This is probably my favorite place to eat in Chicago, and when I lived there I was here at LEAST once a week (yes I did live half a block away, but its GREAT)

Yes the place has no atmosphere, BUT, it is

    1. BYO
    2. Really nice family owned place
    3. Really good, really really really CHEAP too
    4. Close to the blue line, so stop coming up with excuses
    5. WAY BETTER THAN PENNYS

I have tried almost everything on the menu and its all killer except those dishes thrown in to please the average bland westerner like "Chicken with vegetables".  I took my family here once for dinner ( 6 ppl) and I think the bill was $50.

Not the best and not the worst thai food I've had in Chicago. Not a whole lot I can say about this place - just your generic thai spot. The service was fine and the flavors weren't amazing but the price was pretty good. Personally I'd rather pay a couple bucks more and have some tasty thai somewhere else.

I have been going to this place for years.  Not necessarily becuase the food is overwhelmingly tasty...but becuase of the pricing in comparison to other restaurants in the area.  You can get some Vietnamese and Chinese food here, in addition to Thai.  They do have excellent curry soups, however.  They do deliver after 4PM, and they cook the dishes very quickly...usually within 15-20 minutes of your order.  I rarely eat at the restaurant (always pickup or delivery)...but the service is decent.
