Always a winner for us. Â The staff are always so friendly and accommodating especially with our young children. Â They bring us a mini-fruit plate before we even order. Â I really wish I could try other items on the menu but I keep going back to the fried egg sandwich...so good. Â This is our favorite spot to bring out of town friends and family and they always rave about it.
Review Source:I ordered the pancakes, the house potatoes, and the apple bacon.
Pancakes - just ok, nothing special
House potatoes - pretty good
Bacon- it was a little too sweet for me
The decor is cute, but service is slooooooooow and it wasn't even busy! This place will do on the days that I don't want to travel to wild berry.
Best brunch in town!!!! I've been here so many times, I've learned not to come during the busy times. This place is so cosy and cute.. The food is so different, healthy and DELICIOUS. The service has always been prompt and friendly.
I bring my family here when they come to visit, a great representation of special unique brunch!
After moving to Edgewater a couple months ago, I finally made it to M Henrietta for Sunday brunch. I have to say that the food made for one of the best brunches I've had in the city. Although our group was sort of large (5 adults and 2 kids) and we were shoved into an alcove with a table, the food more than made up for it. Everything was fresh and unique and I will definitely be coming back!
Review Source:Showed up on a Sunday a little after 1pm, wait was 20-25 mins but we only waited 10.
Had the chorizo scramble, very tasty, liked the cheese  and sour cream and the potatoes were nicely seasoned.  Plantains were a nice sweet touch.  Portion was quite filling.
Service was prompt and friendly. Â Overall a nice experience.
It is indeed possible for a place to become too trendy for its own good. Â
The wait was long. Â (Quoted 30, was 40.) Â That happens when you show up to brunch on Sunday at 10:30. Â Can't fault them for that. Â I do feel like I can fault the hostess for overlooking our party of two and seating a couple of folks who came in after us first. Â Again--not a big deal, just simple attention to detail which was overlooked. Â Same hostess from the M. Henry location.
Seating/Atmosphere: Â Okay. Â The two-top was actually spacious enough for two people. Â The screaming children next to us were a minus, but again--not the fault of the establishment. Â It seems a bit quieter than the other location, which was actually a bonus.
Food: Â Just okay. Â Nothing to write home about. Â I had the "Autumn Comfort" brunch plate, which didn't live up to its promise. Â Most comforting experiences I've had in autumn involve warmth, which this offering did not. Â Seriously--the complexity that could have been realized with the butternut squash and bacon crepe gets lost when its temperature achieved something south of lukewarm, thus taking on the consistency of clay. Â No, this dude couldn't abide it. Â Groovy wife enjoyed her fried egg sandwich though.
Service: Â The worst. Â We get it. Â You're trying to turn over tables at peak brunch time. Â I have this rule though: Â I want to sit and enjoy my meal for at least as long as I had to wait for it. Â Wait=40 minutes. Â Food ordered, delivered, and being asked that "So...will there be anything else?" question 20 minutes after sitting down was both remarkable and annoying. Â Dirty water glasses, no offer of a coffee refill--it was just off-putting.
In sum, I don't have much love for this place and can't recommend it with any degree of confidence to anyone else. Â It is at best an average brunch place. Â Don't believe the hype!
I had brunch there last Sunday. Â I had not been before and found it to be a bright spot in a dowdy neighborhood. Â I was seated promptly by a very pleasant and charming hostess. Â I ordered the blackberry bliss cakes which were tasty, with the a good sized portion being offered. Â I had some discouraging coffee as well. Â Service was solid. Â Generally, I would say that my food was pretty good although a bit pricey. Â Overall, I would recommend it for a high calorie but tasty breakfast and a very congenial brunch experience.
Review Source:The hostess was very awkward and unfriendly. Â It was a Sunday at 10:30 am and they weren't very busy, so I guess that's why when we walked in, she was leaned against the wall with her arms crossed -- we didn't even think she worked there. Â If I didn't just put $3.00 in the parking meter, I'd have left.
The waitstaff was much better though -- friendly and attentive.  As other reviewers have mentioned, they're quick to top off your coffee.  The crab and shrimp benedict was delicious and the truffle-baked egg was pretty good too.  I wanted to give M. Henrietta a try because although it's been awhile since I'd last visited M. Henry on Clark, I remember that experience being pretty great  Anyway, I'm glad we tried it, but not going back.
My boyfriend and I decided to eat here for brunch. We were asked to wait as the restaurant was somewhat busy. No names were taken ahead of us. No biggie, there was just the two of us. I can wait. We stood there like complete idiots, while the hostess sat 3 groups of people before us ( 3 to 4 tops). Â It was ridiculous and so unnecessary. Â The people walked in, asked for a table and were seated almost immediately with NO wait. I know business is business but that's just tacky, poor customer service. I approached the hostess and after stating my issue she tells me "oh no, honey, that's just how we do it here." Â Sadly, M Henrietta, all you see are dollar signs, not customer service....
Review Source:I haven't been to M Henry so I can't compare. Â The short wait makes me a little suspicious.
This is one of those places that I would go to if I lived in the area, but to drive all the way from Grand Ave....nah!
Its cute inside. Â I don't remember being uncomfortable or feeling crowded. Â
The service is inconsistent. Â By that I mean I noticed the tables around us got their food much quicker, the people next to me got coffee refills when I did not. Â
I think my friend and I didn't order the right things. Â What we got sounded amazing on paper and I'm told that they change their menu frequently so I felt compelled to order off of the special brunch section. Â I got the salmon....let's call it what it is, an omelet. Â On the menu its called a rotolone. Â I thought a rotolone was like when a ravioli meets a ho-ho. Â But the description does say omelet. Â It was ok. Â Not hot and the salmon was tough. Â I had a hard time cutting this! Â My side salad was just ok too. Â My friend was raving about her salad which is good b/c she got the brioche egg with truffle. Â It was zzzz zzzz zzzz. Â If you want bread this is your dish! Â Although to be fair it was really truffle-y. Â If they made it open-faced and added some really good French ham they'd be on to something. Â She double checked that the eggs would be not runny b/c she hates runny yolks. Â That is not what they served her. Â
I wasn't overly impressed but I wasn't totally offended either. Â I think if my friends in Edgewater asked me to meet them there I would and I'd order differently.
3.5 - Big brother m. henry, this is not. Â I just didn't have as good an experience here as I've always had at m.henry, but I'm partial.
I will say the wait is MUCH shorter, I was quoted 10 minutes, but my dining companion hadn't arrived. Â Once she did, I let them know and we were seated in 2 minutes. Â Shocking! Â Unfortunately that's the only part that was fast, our food took forever to come out, and we sat salivating over everyone else's plates.
The menu is very similar to m.henry. Â Having had an amazing baked egg concoction before, I ordered the brioche baked egg with truffle oil. Â It looked amazing, but was far too bready for me. Â My friend noted that it would have made more sense to add some ham and make it a croque madame (suggestion box!) Â I had requested that the egg be baked through so it wasn't too runny, but it came out runny anyways, which kind of ruined it for me. Â The highlight was the delicious salad with sesame vinaigrette! Â I could eat a whole meal of this!
My friend's salmon omelette was very tasty, but came out cold. Â Disappointing.
They do have a back patio, so that's awesome, but the inside space lacks the charm m.henry has. Â Overall it has an appetizing menu, but I'll stick to m.henry in my hood.
AHHH!!! I LOVE this place!!!
I love the decor and the food. (though the service is a bit off...)
Pecan & banana french toast--this is one of those plates that comes out and you're just in awe. You become one of THOSE people who takes pictures of your food. Seriously, this thing is made beautiful. oh and btw, IT TASTES DELICIOUS!!!! I was so sad when it was over. I just wanted to continue bitting into this tasty, creamy, sweet thing.
chicken balsamique sandwich--this was a pretty good sandwich. it was flavorful and the ingredients seemed fresh.
M. Henrietta is a lovely name AND a lovely restaurant. Â
My group of four dined here over the weekend and ordered a variety of lunch / brunch fare - everyone enjoyed it. Â The space is country / kitchen / cute - great light coming through the windows, cookie bags lined the checkout area, it had a very calm / relaxed feel. Â Ah.... I like it.
We walked in and were seated right away and took a little time deciding what to order because everything looked so good. Â There's a lot of good veg / semi-veg options as well as a range of standard / meat options. Â This range was perfect for our group of semi-veggies + one full on vegan + one full on meat-eater.
A diner and I split two delicious entrees - one sweet, one salty:
Quiche (green/white onions + cheese) with side salad.
 -  great quiche, good sized salad. Â
Blueberry + peach blisscakes with mascarpone filling and oat topping. Â
- Â just as blissful as they sound, folks. Â
Prices were fair, service was quick - I'd definitely be back to sample the many other menu options I was considering.
We needed a new brunch place after moving here from California. Â We've been to M. Henrietta's a few times now. Â We really enjoy this place. Â The food is good. Â The staff is friendly. Â Very comfortable atmosphere.
If you go here for breakfast/brunch, try the bread pudding.
A previous reviewer has commented on how they do not quite seem to know how to prepare eggs. Â We have noticed this; my wife twice now wanted eggs over medium and they were very over easy. Â It's a small thing overall, but if you are really into your eggs, it could be irritating.
Their coffee is also way too strong for our tastes.
I'm a big fan of M. Henry, so I obviously had to visit M. Henrietta because lets face it, it has the most adorable name ever. I will buy a pair of puppies one day and name them Henry and Henrietta, and they will fall in love and make lots of baby puppies named Henry and Henrietta Jr. That's how much I like the names.
I came here with my Dad for dinner, since the two restaurants have the same breakfast/lunch menus and I wanted to try something different. We came on a Wednesday afternoon and experienced no wait.
I ordered the soiree salad, with had mango, sliced avocado, and chicken. It was acceptable but tasted like it was missing something, as I've definitely had better salads in the past. My dad got ming-hao's red roast pork, which was great. I only had a few bites and I really wish I had ordered that. The red wine, soy sauce, and star anise marinade perfectly complemented the pork.
I would've given them 3 stars for my very average salad (4 stars had I ordered the pork) but had to dock another star for the subpar service. Even though the restaurant was pretty empty, it took awhile for them to seat us. It took us forever to get our food after we ordered, and when we were done, we waited around for awhile to see if they would notice us until I got impatient and flagged down a waiter to clear the table. Service was much faster at M Henry even during their peak weekend brunch hours in comparison to this place on an empty weekday night. I wish I could give M Henrietta a better rating, but between the slowpoke wait staff and my conventional salad, I probably would not return.
M. Henrietta was just okay. I don't think the food was too much to brag about. I did taste the crab cakes my friend ordered and it was tasty, but otherwise, I think everything else could've been ordered at another restaurant without the wait. I ordered the latina omeletta and was surprised at how much flavor it lacked. It's supposed to pack a little punch with a name like that. But alas, I was disappointed and salsa-less.
This place is BYOB, so if that's your thing, there's something to consider there.
All of M. Henry's deliciousness (same exact menu, perfectly executed), with the added benefits of easy parking on Broadway and a 5-minute wait on a Saturday morning (M. Henry can be up to a 2 hour wait on the same time/day).
Aside from good parking and short wait, we were particularly pleased with: Friendly service; waiter who was attentive without being overbearing; fruit bowl that was worth the extra $--included pears, mangos, peaches, plums; servers ASKING about coffee refills before pouring; light, fruity blackberry pancakes that weren't too sweet (that pastry cream is divine!); satisfying, but not huge, portions.
Seems like M. Henry's little sister is our new "favorite child!"
Had my first visit here this past week about an hour before close and was surprised to see that there were quite a bit of people here dining.
My girlfriend and I scanned the menu and decided to split (no pun intended) the sweet pea veggie soup. It was amazing! From what we gathered it was Vegan. She's apart of the "don't ask, don't tell" Vegan club. I remember the first bite. It was warm and flavorful with a hint of something I couldn't put my finger on. "CURRY!!", she exclaimed! And yes, it was! I dipped my bread in and took a bite. "MMMMMMM!".
Next up our main courses came. She had the nut loaf and mashed rutabagas with spinach, I had the prosciutto benedict on top of the most crisp and fresh bed of greens. We were in heaven. When we were eating we noticed that our hostess walked by with a pastry of some sort and a lit candle. "Happy happy happy, birthday...". The not so TGI Fridays' sort of chanting began. It was sort of like a 20's Jazz bit performed by this hostess that had to be in her early 60's. All of a sudden we saw her kick each leg above her head and the fosse hands flew out.
What more could we have asked for? Delicious dinner and a show? We're kind of sad to hear that the Granville red line stop will be closed for the next 6 weeks for renovation. I believe I will get their again within that time by hook or by crook!
I hate to say it, but I might like M. Henrietta more than her brother, M. Henry.
Don't get me wrong! Their family. I love them both!
M. Henritta's food is irresistibly Instagram-able.
* Simply french toast with berries and cream: standardly great.
* Crab and shrimp cake benedict: delicious, as others have said.
* Smoked salmon rotolone: aslkfjoewi;slkfa AMAZING.
* Milk chocolate pudding: so cute. So tasty.
Even though they can take a minute, the waitstaff here are friendly and do just fine considering how busy they can be, and the auxiliary people who bus the tables and fill your water are are super fast and efficient. Also, whenever we come here we inevitably gush about the cuteness of rustic, salvaged-esque tables, and how we need one in our apartment - but then our food comes, and our ability to focus on anything else becomes completely diminished.
Eat here. It's good.
I'm usually not a fan of BYOB's because I do not like to bring bottle around and I like bottomless mimosa specials, but this place is amazing. Â I wanted to order the entire menu. Â Out of the two dishes I ordered, thank God for a 1/2 portions of bread pudding, I enjoyed them both.
I had the bread pudding and the shrimp and crab cake eggs Benedict. Â WTF!? Â I mean, what can I say. Â The brad pudding is more dry, but very good. Â Sorry, Louisiana has branded me a custard style loving bread pudding eater, but the fresh berries making the pudding purple was decadence on a spoon.
As for my Benedict, I'm in love and it will be hard to try something else if I go again today with my friend, because we are in love with this place. Â It is served with a wonderful salad, great place if you are dieting, because you have the delicious splurge and healthy side to most entree options. Â The poached egg was perfect and the Hollandaise sauce was remarkably suited for the seafood version of a classic breakfast feast.
No plate was left with any food and we had a party of six. Â The wait can be a monster, but the orange juice is fresh and mixed perfectly with our previously purchased champagne. Â Also, food arrives promptly. Â Great place to take a girl if you want to woo her with a breakfast date, or good place to impress non-locals.
We took the red line straight to it, parking in Edgewater is about as bad if not worse than Lakeview.
Grade: A+
I walked away from this restaurant with mixed feelings. I was in the city visiting friends and we decided to get brunch/lunch on a Saturday morning. Neither one of them had been to this place yet but had heard good things.
So we went on this really pretty day just a few stops south. It's really conveniently located near the Red Line. We got there expecting at least a little wait. Turns out they could fit us in right away. Sweet! They gave us a prime spot near the windows. The decor is friendly and inviting.
Then things went from 4 or 5 star slowly down to the current 3 spot. We knew before going that it was only BYOB which was ok but would have been nice to have a mimosa. I ordered coffee. It wasn't special but certainly wasn't bad either.
Our waitress was noticeably absent even from the get-go. I'm usually fairly forgiving about this on a brunch-y place on a Saturday mid-day but it didn't look like she had THAT many customers. Anyway, we ordered our food and waited for, oh, maybe 30 minutes? It's not that bad but she never checked on us and she seemed entirely uninterested in a good tip. My friend ordered a side of sausage and the waitress failed to tell us it was chicken sausage. This is kinda a factoid that may change one's mind about getting sausage. It was still pretty good though.
I got 2 eggs, potatoes, toast and bacon. My friends got breakfast items as well but I failed at noticing exactly what they ordered. All my food was pretty delicious. A little pricey but hey, this is brunch at a nice, cute restaurant with a good reputation. One of m friends' food had WAY too many onions in it. To the point that it was difficult for him to sift through the sheer amount of onions near the end of his meal. No bueno. Other than that we all seemed to enjoy our food.
I'd come back but maybe during the week when I was more likely to get great service?
Going to M Henrietta feels like going to your grandmother's house for a cozy meal ... if your grandmother is a hip and fantastic cook who runs a popular bed and breakfast.
In any case, I love the warm ambiance of this place. So inviting, the staff is super friendly, and the food is tasty and comforting. Been here for dinner a couple times, and the restaurant features a staple menu as well as daily specials.
Highlights:
+ Chicken Crusted Chili Bowl is delicious and so hearty, and you will definitely have some leftover to take home
+ The daily special usually has a fish entree with some sort of fruit-based salsa, always a winner
+ BYOB
+ Street parking right outside
+ Not crowded. And for that matter, even when I've been the last one or two tables left at the restaurant, I never feel like I'm being rushed. Really can't say enough about the fantastic service.
Assuming M Henrietta is the same brunch as M Henry, I would guess their sweet dishes (read: BLISScakes) are more nomgasm worthy than their savory brunch items.
So have your blisscakes, run those weekend errands, and then make sure to make your way back for dinner.
Yoga pants! Â Yoga Pants! YOGA PANTS! Â
I have learned my lesson. Â I no longer wear pants withOUT expanding waistlines when I eat here. Â No matter how much I promise myself I will exert some self control and eat a normal portion, I fail. The food is just too darn good.
AND- I will admit it, sometimes I am a bit slow on the uptake.
M Henrietta serves DINNER!!!! and it is....wait for it.... BYOB!!!!!
HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Â!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BYOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Â!!!!!!!!
I love M Henrietta! Â It is one of my absolute favorite brunch places in the city. Â I love BYOB (who does not??) Â I went for dinner the other night. Â It is equal to the brunch, if not better. Â The specials were well priced and amazing.
We tried the pork gorditos.  Oh boy.  These babys were so flavorful, the pork was tender, juicy and just absurdly incredible.  They were gone in about 2 minutes flat.  This was on the specials menu and not  offered every night.  It was a small serving, but if you get the chance, try it!! DO IT! UNBELIEVABLE!
We also had a prosciutto and potato rosemary benedict . This is a bit hard to explain, it is kind of like a flat bread breakfast salad. I know, I know, it sounds really, really strange. Â But it was also a delight. It had fresh berries (really fresh and flavorful- a trademark of M Henrietta) included on the bed of lettuce with asparagus spears, poached eggs and phenomenal prosciutto on top of the potato flat bread. Â Combined together with the walnut pesto, this uncommon taste concoction was singularly spectacular. Â I want more- right this moment- just thinking about it.
The menu was filled with items I wanted to try, but even with yoga pants, had no room room in the inn. Â Cauliflower soup with apple, a scallop salad, a nacatamal, a Shiraz glazed salmon. Â The whole menu looks amazing and if it is even half as good as the items we tried, IT IS ON!!
As earlier stated, this is one of my favorite brunch places.  Now, it is even higher on my list.  I cannot wait to gorge myself on Fannie's Killer  Fried egg sandwich (my breakfast  favorite- I have to admit) or the Lemon crab and shrimp eggs benedict(my brunch favorite) with BYOB mimosas or bloody marys.  Even just a BYOB Champagne brunch sounds outstanding!
Even more reasons to love this restaurant!
I'm BIG on any place that serves breakfast. I literally love the word BRUNCH! A friend and I decided to meet for breakfast and every time we go to a new place to eat. This time we choose M Henrietta. We both ordered coffee which was good. As we caught up on chat time we decided to order the latina omeletta.
I absolute love this place. The staff and the location of this little gem of a place is great! I miss this old neighborhood but I always love coming back to visit.
Wait a minute, let me get this straight--it's exactly the same as M Henry, only with no wait and dinner hours? Â Are you serious? Â So...M Henry but better? Â Wow.
As a longtime fan of M Henry ("longtime" as in, it was my favorite brunch spot way back when they had just the one tiny storefront), I am utterly dismayed that it took me so long to visit M Henrietta. Â But I hope to make up for lost time. Â Thankfully this location is within waddling distance of a Red Line stop.
Get the potato leek soup whenever they have it on special--trust me. Â And the breakfast bread pudding is still phenomenal.
Beautiful. Â I went on a weekday, had an amazing breakfast, and everything was great. Â I had the pancakes with the berries - I'm sure it had a fancy name (say, "Angelica"), but I've never been good with names. Â Also shared a little piggy goodness. Â I ordered a latte, and the waitress apologized that it was more of a cappuccino. Â No biggie!
Pricey. Â comfy. Â I'll be back.
I live in Edgewater and with a real lack of restaurant options around, I really wanted to like this place. Â However, after about six brunches and three dinners, I just don't. Â
The service the first time or two I was here was great, but since then has dropped off considerably and is now very slow. Â Want coffee with brunch? Â Hope you don't mind waiting 15 minutes and finally getting it after reminding your server you ordered it. Â
The food has the potential to be very good, but most of the hot brunch items I have ordered arrived cold, which is especially frustrating after you've been waiting for about an hour to be seated, have your order taken and receive your food.
Dinner is a safer bet, as the dining room is slow and you are more likely to receive good service and warm food. Â If you are looking for a great brunch spot in Edgewater, skip this place. Â It is not worth the disorganized wait, slow service, or cold food.
The quest for a bite to eat brought us to M Henrietta's doorstep. There was no wait and the three of use were immediately seated with water and coffee flowing quickly.
We checked out the menu and the first question out of all our mouths was "Jorge's chorizo omelet? is there enough to go around?" Very tempting, of course we had to order it along with the vegetarian omelet specials and candied applewood bacon. OMG! My mouth still waters. The potatoes were hearty and tasted so good with ketchup and hot sauce.
The food was really good. The only odd ball item was the plantain with the chorizo omelet. It didn't seem like it belonged with the rest of the deliciousness. All in all, we were all satisfied with our orders and would visit again for lunch if breakfast is not our fancy at the time. Coffee was really good and made us happy that we really didn't want to leave. Love the simplicity of this restaurant. I hear the sister store is even nicer.
The staff was super nice and although they were looking to flip the table since a line was forming even at 1pm, they didn't rush us and kept replenishing our fluids while putting up with our crude chorizo humor. Thanks, we'll be back.
Finding a good Sunday brunch restaurant in Chicago is easy. Â Finding one without long wait times; not so much. Rumors of short waits and good food enticed us to make the trek to Edgewater.
We arrived to find only a handful of people awaiting seating. The hostess, a bespectacled, motherly figure draped in a colorful muumuu, was floating around the restaurant efficiently doling out seats. During our brief wait I sidled up to her and asked for recommendations. Â Without hesitation she suggested the lemon/apple/blueberry brioche French toast and the lemon crab & shrimp cake Benedict. I was in the mood for something savory so I opted for the Benedict. Â
Wanting to at least sample our hostess's other recommendation I dropped multiple hints for my brunch partner, Mary T, suggesting that she try the French toast. She either failed to pick up on my hints or chose to completely ignore them (more likely the latter) and ordered the blackberry bliss cakes.
The hostess did not do me wrong with her recommendation. Â I fell in love with my entire breakfast plate from the perfectly poached eggs on the lemony crab and shrimp cakes to the tangy lime dressing on the greens salad. Â The plate was full of deliciousness including a pleasant surprise of a parmesan crisp and a few pieces of fresh fruit. Â I overheard our waitress telling the adjacent table that it was her favorite item on the menu.
Mary may have not ordered the recommended French toast but her blackberry bliss cakes were pretty spectacular too. Â The airy hotcakes with berries and mascarpone cream had a brown sugar and oat topping to give it a nice crunchy texture.
My waistline is thankful that M Henrietta is not located closer to me, but on a Sunday morning I would gladly make the trip to Edgewater for the short waits and exciting brunch offering.
My BFF had been hearing good things about this place so, when you could finally squeeze in a brunch, we decided to check it out. Â The wait was 45 minutes, but it was such a gorgeous day we didn't mind the wait. Â I usually try to avoid brunch on Sundays unless we go early--like 9 or 10--but when you go at 12:30, you expect a wait.
We were seated and placed our order with the help of our server. Â Everything looked so good we needed a recommendation to decide. Â Shortly after we placed the order, she brought coffee & said she'd be right back with more cream. Â We would have liked any cream; Â we only had a bowl of empty creamers. Â Our server was never returned, so when our food came a few minutes later we asked the bus boy for some & he returned with them quickly. Â The server came by around the same time & we asked her for the silverware we just realized we were without. Â
I ordered the Latina omlette. Â It was tasty, but not out-of-this-world or anything. Â My friend had the lemon crab & shrimp cake benedict. Â The brioche rounds were completely inedible. Â They couldn't be cut or even cracked with a fork and knife. Â She felt everything else about it was delicious & just didn't eat the "bread." Â We would have reported the inedible food had we seen our server again. Â After she brought our silverware, we ate everything and then sat there with empty coffee cups (which had been empty for 1/2 the meal) catching up. And we caught up at length. Â It was easily 20 minutes after we finished when we saw her again.
Luckily I don't think this is typical service. The tables around us who had the other server seemed to be getting attentive & cheerful service.
Already quite familiar with M. Henry in Andersonville, I still didn't quite expect to get my hands on a bodaciously-large bowl of "Simply-French" chicken stew on a cold, rainy night in their sister restaurant. Of course it should come to the table steaming, but it was a treat to dig around and munch on tender breast chunks, onion bulbs and tiny gold potatoes.
The mouth experience was kicked up a bit as I opted to also try a side of their rich and smooth, mashed rutabaga with veggie gravy. Much like a gourmet, buttery turnip bottom all pulverized and re-buttered, this was one great plate of root!
M. Henrietta is such a beautiful, tranquil upgrade over the ragtag Korean beauty store that used to sit in the same space. There's a lot of love that went into this new effort.
It's amazing how the ghetto can be transformed. Â Just a few years ago I owned a basement condo near this Rogers Park-area Loyola campus and after witnessing a couple of car jackings and such, I decided to bolt. Fast forward to late 2011 and the same exact spot boasts a new condo mid-rise and a few new posh businesses.
