Awesome Irish breakfasts on St. Pat's.

May the sun forever shine on this absolute gem of a place. While it can get a bit noisy on the weekends, hit it on a mid-week evening and you're guaranteed a nice time.

Hand's down - my favorite spot to grab a drink in Decatur. The food is top-tier "pub food"  as well - especially the D14.

Man you guys, I should have reviewed the Marlay House before last night because now I'm kinda over them and I feel mean doing this, but the world has to know!

I went in last night, which to be fair, was a holiday.  I went at 9pm though, so imagine my surprise when the place was chock full o' children.  There were kids running around and screaming, throwing piles of cushions on the floor and then taking running leaps into them, banging on the piano and then playing "Heart and Soul" and "Chopsticks" throughout my hour stay.  I know, I know, this has more to do with the parents of these children than the actual bar, but it made my dining experience pretty unpleasant.  At some point the manager or server or bartender should have said, "Hey the piano isn't for playing and the cushions aren't for building forts--this is a bar."

At one point a child was actually sitting AT THE BAR which I'm pretty sure is illegal, or at least bad business.  I go to bars to be around adults and I'm running out of places that are for adults that aren't like, titty bars.  Ugh. I noticed multiple adults moving away from that section of the restaurant, and one gentleman remarked, "It is Kid Central over here!"

I will say that their food is usually good.  I love their burger and fries, and the fish n' chips are pretty delicious too.  But they've apparently recently changed their menu and took away some tasty options (no more chicken tacos?!?! WHYYYY???) and also raised their prices (a pimento cheese & bacon burger with fries will set you back $16!  At Parker's the same item is only $15 and you'll get some free bread while you wait! And isn't a basic Farmburger about $6?).  Between the new menu and the new (literally new to this earth) clientele, I'll probably be dining elsewhere when I want a beer and a burger, and it'll be a place with a conspicuously absent kids' menu.

Their outdoor seating is great. They've got Magner's on top which is awesome. I like their fish and chips as well as their shepherd's pie. Great place to hang out at late in the evening.

I will warn you however, roaches seem to love their outdoor seating as much as humans. I've seen more large roaches outside of the Marlay House than any other establishment in Decatur. Never seen em inside though. You know, it's Georgia, you're under a bunch of trees, roaches are gonna happen.

We were at a festival where The Marlay House had a food truck serving fish and chips and such. On the menu was LOBSTER & CHIPS. As a Brit, I have had my fair share of fish and chips but I can safely say I have never had lobster (in batter) and chip before - at an afternoon outdoor festival - so I was thrilled to place my order.

REGRETS: I wish I had not chosen this day to be adventurous with my food. The lobster was RAW!! Seriously. It was literally uncooked lobster meat fried in batter and served with chips (french fries). I was shocked!

I decided not to go back to the food truck and spoil my day and chose instead to write this review. It was a nauseating experience.  I have added an image of the uncooked meat to my account -  I am not sure if it will show up but take a look.

Being British, I was pleasantly surprised to find somewhere in Decatur that felt close to home. Sunday Roasts and decent drink selection. The patio is great when its warm and the interior is very rustic. Feels like an English pub

I come to the Marlay so often now, I really think I owe an update, and especially because they don't seem to get the reviews they deserve. The fish and chips is great, the salads are excellent, and the shepherd's pie is tasty. Everything is served hot and fresh. Service is laid-back but generally friendly enough, and, to cap it off, they have their own parking lot, which makes it an easy place to meet friends from beyond the city limits. Lovely pubby atmosphere, and good selection of drinks. They will never win awards for cuisine, but  it's good, competent pub food in a pleasant setting. Works for me.

Good place.  No problems.  It's an Irish Pub.

Just as I said I would all those years ago, I'm upgrading a star after coming back just for drinks.

We sat at the bar and were quickly greeted by a friendly bartender. I received a perfectly prepared Guinness and the bartender was great about checking up on us. The whole vibe was very comfortable, with lots of chatty customers in good spirits. It was a weeknight and it still felt jovial: a rarity in this town, I feel. Bonus points for the solid live music that started around 10pm. Makes my late night-loving self oh so pleased to see bars cater to the "after hours" crowd.

This place is great. Every time we pass by, my dogs try to go in. That's because they allow dogs on the patio, and will bring them a bowl of water. The food here is good (better than average pub fare), and the service is great. Whenever I have a bad day, we stop off here for a Magner's and conversation. It always cheers me up.

Surprisingly good Buffalo wings. Tasty, just the right amount of crisp and what I would say was the proper homage to the original.

Had the fish-n-chips. It was tasty and I have no complaints. But it is not the best fish-n-chips I've ever had. Will I go back? Yes, the food was good and the service from the wait-staff was fantastic. So, I will make that drive from Cumming down to Decatur to check this place out again.

I was really pleasantly surprised.  With all of the options in Decatur  near the main town square area I feel like that this place might get overlooked.  I like the vibe, it had a neighborhood pub type atmosphere while still offering some excellent food options are a cut above.  Combine that with a substantial and strong beer list and you have the makings of a good place.

I think that what makes this place work for me is that it doesn't try to be anything other than what it is.  It's as if it has a simple mission statement of being an Irish pub that does everything an Irish pub should do and just does it very well.  My Guiness braised sandwich was excellent and my friends said they enjoyed their Veggie Pot Pies and Chicken Melt sandwiches respectively.

If you want a regular pub (not something trying to be a "gastropub'")  with proper food and a wide ranging beer list, you can't do much better than this.

Marlay has a good atmosphere, great beer list and delicious food.

Normally I wouldn't think of a place like this for take-out, but we get stuff here all the time.  Their take-away service is great, easy to call in and quick to pick up.  When I drove past here on the way home from work it was an even more common place to pick up food.

I had high hopes going in that this was going to be good. Plenty of positive YELP reviews and glowing recommendations.

We started off with their "Pub Pretzel" - sucker for carbs. Keep in mind, this is a "Super Pretzel". We thought it would be something a little more from scratch (or rustic) but it appears to have come right out of the box. The mustard it came with saved its life - had some horseradish in it and made us forget, a little bit, that we paid $3.00 for a boxed super pretzel.

Sadly this was a sign of things to come. The Fish & Chips were hot! Which is a half compliment as by the time they were cool enough to eat the fish was very soggy. This kept us from being able to add any vinegar or cut with a fork, too mushy. The breading was a bit thick - but not too bad. Fries were a bit soggy as well.

The Guinness braised brisket was good. Portion size for the prize seemed out of whack, this is not a place for left overs. The brisket was tender and the Guinness added a hint of sweetness that was nice.

Overall it is not worth our time to come back. Like other reviewers have said - once we got in the car, it was mutual. Aside of the food though, the service was good and space was ample. Parking though, I am sure it like this at many area restaurants, is downright horrible.

My SO lives in Decatur, so we're at the Marlay pretty frequently. And I have to say, the more I go, the more I like this place. Good beer selection, usually with something interesting on the daily list. I've had the meat & cheese plate several times and have been pretty happy with the selections. They don't just throw a summer sausage and Kraft chedder on and call it a day, they've got well-thought out combos.

I've also had the lamb stew (solid), the hummus (great) and the brisket (a little under seasoned). I'd say overall it's pretty reliable, though I haven't had the fish & chips, which have been roundly panned here.

My interest in The Marlay House was sparked by "The Mobile Marlay," a food truck I encountered in Poncey-Highland that offers fish and chips. The food truck is a gift from the gods. The cod and fries are made-to-order, so they come out crispy and molten-lava hot in three minutes.

"Man," my brain told me. "That was delicious. How about we try their restaurant?"

It made sense at the time.

First thing we noticed going into The Marlay House was that it was DARK -- like "movie theater" dark. Perhaps they're trying to cut costs by leaving the lights off?

I ordered the fish and chips (of course) and my wife ordered avocado chicken tacos and risotto balls. The best thing on our roster were the risotto balls, deep fried to a golden brown and served with a cup of marinara sauce.

My fish and chips were a surprising disappointment. Whereas the food truck had hot, crispy, badass food, the same dish in the restaurant had soggy, cold, limp french fries. The fish also had been sitting on the counter a few minutes too long, and the batter had been laid on too thick. It tasted like a cold pancake swallowed a lukewarm piece of fish.

The final straw was the subpar service. One of the waiters dropped my wife's avocado chicken tacos on the floor, and tried to play it off like nothing happened.

"Don't worry," the waitress said. "We'll get you another one as soon as possible."

Apparently, in the Marlay House, "as soon as possible" is thirty minutes (in an empty, uncrowded restaurant). In that time, I could've ran home, cut up and fried some chicken myself, sliced some avocados, ate the entire dish, and returned to the Marlay House with five minutes to spare.

The waitress reassured us they'd discount the food for such a long wait. Complimentary tacos? Nope! We got the "friends and family" 15% discount. This knocked a whopping TWO whole dollars off our bill. Such generosity, these guys have. They really love their customers.

On the drive home, my wife turned to me.

    "Let's not go back there."

    Agreed.

My favorite Decatur restaurant (so far!)

They have THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS I've ever had, and we have tasted A LOT of fish and chips.

The atmosphere of the pub is authentic, I am sure this is soon to be one of our regular haunts. Sunday brunch is also fantastic.

But honestly, you must try the fish and chips. It will change your life!

The owners keep changing the name of this place like it's a member of the Federal Witness Protection Program. The backstory is that they were served with a trademark infringement warning by the National Grange of the Order of Patrons of Husbandry - because apparently this is the first thing that is supposed to come to mind when the word "grange" is uttered. Instead of indulging these money-grubbing hooligans with an annual licensing fee, the owners chose to just change the name - I guess you can still count on an Irishman to take the high road.

Food: The Marlay House serves a decent selection of casual American bar fare and Irish specialty dishes, including burgers and sandwiches, fish & chips, Guinness braised beef brisket, shepherd's pie, and Irish sausages. During my visit, I opted for the Kerrygold pimento cheese as an appetizer and the pesto chicken sandwich as an entree. Both dishes were sizably portioned and reasonably flavorful. The meal was by no means the pinnacle of culinary expression - but for the location and price point, it was perfectly acceptable.

Service: I dined at the Marlay House with a group of approximately ten people and the waitress really did an extraordinary job of servicing the table - the bills were all separated exactly as they should have been and there were no errors with any of the orders.

Atmosphere: I've been to my fair share of pubs in Ireland and can personally attest to the fact that the atmosphere of this place is about as authentic as you're going to find in Atlanta. Everything from the bar stools to the wall hangings are true to form. In addition to the large bar area and dining room, the restaurant also features a fairly expansive outdoor patio that overlooks Ponce.

Cost: Inexpensive. Appetizers are $5-$7, sandwiches and burgers are $9-$10, Irish specialty dishes are $9-$13, sides are $3-$4. and desserts are $6.

Other: The Marlay House opens daily at 11:30AM. The kitchen closes at 10:30PM on Monday through Thursday and 11:30PM on Friday and Saturday. Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday from 10:30AM to 3:00PM. Parking is available along the backside of the restaurant - it may feel like you're driving into a scene from Saw, but rest assured, there is actually a legitimate lot back there.

I love their Sunday brunch. The only thing I would criticize for is that they make their yorkshire puddings in muffin pans instead of pudding pans.

Great atmosphere. Actually has the ambiance and menu of an irish pub.

The boyfriend and I stopped in here last weekend for dinner to switch things up a bit... Seems we'd been neglecting some spots in our downtown Decatur neighborhood, and The Marlay was a restaurant we hadn't been to in 6+ months.  Now I regret having not gone more often!

Our hostess was very nice, honoring our request to sit near a tv (she turned it on and tuned to the Braves/Mets game for us - yay for dinner, beer, and baseball!).  Our server, Jeff, was likewise very friendly and attentive.  The beer list was really awesome (seeeeriously, why have we not been here more often?!); I had an Avec Les Bons Voeux.  With an ABV of 9.5%, it was all I needed :-)

For dinner I had the veggie pot pie, which was quite large and came with a side salad.  The crust was light and delicious.  I had to cut some holes in the crust and give my pot pie time to cool and the sauce inside time to thicken, as it was super super hot inside.  So I munched on some fries from my omnivorous boyfriend's fish and chips basket :-)  Once my pie cooled, I went to town... Ooh, it was good!  Vegetarian pot pies can be hard to pull off, but The Marlay did it!

We popped in a few weeks ago for a late-night bite and a drink. It was pretty empty for a Saturday night. The ambiance was great, and I appreciated the late serving hours! Our server was extremely polite and charming. We really did like him!

I ordered the sausage and mash plate. The food was under-flavored  -- whoooooooo it was bad. Salt shaker was used several times. The sausage (from Atlanta Sausage Company) was really bad. I didn't even finish one whole link. The mashed potatoes were bland, but probably from a real potato (which I appreciated).

Had a few bites of my hubs's food, and yep - bland. This plus the awful fishy stench coming from their dumpster in the parking lot - won't be back, especially when there are tons of pubs in the area with awesome food.

The Marlay (previously the Grange) was hands down my favorite restaurant when I lived in Atlanta.  It is convenient to get to and has it's own parking lot, unlike many other Decatur restaurants.  It has a very chill atmosphere inside and a giant front porch which is perfect in nice weather.  I would not recommend it for "going out" but it is a perfect place to go for dinner and a beer or two.

I was obsessed with the Fish and Chips and the "TCB" (Turkey, Cranberry, Brie sandwich).  I liked these two dishes so much that I rarely ever tried anything else.  I did try the shepherd's pie once and it was also delicious.  They also have a very good draft beer selection - not as big as some of the places in Decatur, but I thought it was a nice selection and they changed it frequently.

If I am ever in Atlanta again I will be sure to find time to make it here!

I was on the fence between 3 or 4 stars for this one...but I'm going with the 4 because I'm just that nice. Lots of pros for this place. One being their own parking lot....not huge, but definitely useful in this area. The front patio is a really big for this area and is really open and airy...which is a great contrast to the dark wood Irish pub style interior. Both spaces are great and I like that there are two totally different options for seating. I love the wrap around bar and cushioned stools (maybe that's what pushed my rating to 4 stars). The draft list was pleasing to me and though the initial overbearing fish smell when I entered kind of turned me off...all the food coming out look great so I got over that. Service was friendly.

The lean to 3 stars was based on the lack of entertainment options (darts or something?). And I guess I was slightly disappointed by the poor placement of their TVs. I wouldn't pick this place if I wanted to watch a big game, but for hanging out and drinking/eating some hearty Irish food I'd say this is a great place.

After the inman park festival, we decided to head over to the Marlay House.  I'd driven past this place multiple times, so I was excited to check it out!  First off, I love the look of the place, and think it has a fantastic patio, so kudos there.

I ordered their "Big Dub" turkey burger, a Flame grilled, seasoned ground turkey on brioche bunw/ lettuce, tomato, onion & house made pickles.  The burger came with chips and as it came out, it looked fantastic.  I was definitely ready to sink my teeth into my meal but when I did, the food was simply okay.  Fries were salted, crispy and not greasy.  They ended up being my favorite part of the meal, which we shared.  The turkey burger WAS juicy, a great start to a turkey burger, but the flavor was simply bland.  Ketchup and mustard (provided on the side) helped it out, but the burger, to me, just fell into the category of "yea, it was okay"....which doesn't exactly endear me. I asked if the veggie burger fared better, and it also was just an okay meal.

Staff was great, helpful and really did their best to take care of us, and I completely appreciate that.  I'll definitely come back just on the strength of their patio and service alone, but i'll try something else next time.

My ladyfriend and I have been going here since it was the Angel and watched the transition to The Grange and then to The Marlay.

This place is undervalued because of its distance to the square. Strong drinks, decent parking, a real pub feel with the dark wood and authentic Irish accents. They have strong cask ales and a mix of the regular Irish pub necessities to drink: Guinness, Magner's, Killian's, etc.

And as of late, I think their food is pretty darn good. I had a few mediocre experiences there and made it into a place where I'd get a few beverages when we didn't want to brave the crowd at Leon's but I got some grub there recently and was impressed.

    Definitely will be back.

Also, highly recommended for Saint Pat's.

Great Irish pub in downtown Decatur. I've gone for brunch twice and both times it was very good. Extensive beer and cocktail menu and all of your favorite Irish staples. Nothing too experimental or innovative, just normal, hearty food.

We went in today because Mac Mcgee was closed. It's the day after St. Patrick's Day, so they were out of alot of menu items. Boo. I wanted to get the Sunday Roast special, but I ended up getting the brisket and eggs, which came with a side of potatoes. The outside of the brisket was very moist and and yummy, but then when I started getting towards the center, it became much drier. Hmm...

Service was excellent and they have a cool front patio.I might be back sometime.

I was never impressed with the food here before.  Most people would say it's most redeeming quality is the beer list.  But the other night we had a great meal.

I absolutely enjoyed the Marlay park pasta.  The tagliatelle was mixed with the perfect amount of wild mushrooms and finished with white truffle oil and pecorino cheese.  The high quality of the thinly-shaved mushrooms it was made this great.

The veggie burger was also very tasty as well.  Made in house, the texture was quite pleasing.  The bun, however, did not serve this sandwich well.  It was way too clunky for a delicate patty and was a bit dry.

Service was a tad slow but friendly.

Although I drive by this place all the time, I've never felt the inclination to try it out. Anytime this place has been suggested, I've always felt very 'meh' about it. I'm not sure why, but the other day, I finally went.

And it was okay. The one big minus, though? The food.

The atmosphere is really nice. We didn't sit outside on the patio, but it looks like a great place to hang out and pass an afternoon/evening/night. The inside is dark but comfortable and inviting. You just want to make this place your hangout spot. The service is attentive and friendly. I would love to come back here.

I just wouldn't eat anything fried. I had the fish and chips. The fish came out fried to a deep brown. Not golden brown. Just plain brown. Like paper bag brown. The batter didn't taste horrible (although it didn't taste great, either), but the fish was sort of flavorless. It needed a lot of tartar sauce. The fries were also not all that good. They were soggy and overcooked. I left most of my meal uneaten. It made me really sad.

My SO had a brisket sandwich with fries. I sampled the sandwich and the meat was tasty but quite greasy. His friend had a burger and fries, but I can't speak to the taste.

After the food, we hung around for beer and conversation. The server was mostly on top of things. One of my beers took a while to come out, but other than that, she was attentive.

I would give Marlay House 2.5 stars if I could, but I am rounding up to three for the atmosphere and service. I hope that the next time I eat here, the food is better!

Love the outdoor patio - what a great place to relax and enjoy a Magner's.  However, there's a few issues here...

    (1)  This is a decidedly non-Irish menu with ridiculous prices.  I get frustrated by Irish pubs that throw together a mish mash of chicken wings, hummus, salads, and burgers and then add shepherd's pie and fish & chips to make an Irish menu.  There are so many beautiful, delicious Irish foods - I wish they were showcased more here.  The only plus I'd give them in this regard is that you can order bangers, rashers, and blood puddings in bulk.

This being said:  if you're looking for true Irish fare, head to Fado.

    (2)  The price.  Wow, $11 for a beet and goat cheese salad?  Even with a side note that states plainly that you try to source for local veggies when you can?  Maybe I'd feel better paying $11 for a goat cheese salad if I knew for sure that every ingredient was organic and locally sourced, but with that disclaimer that it may not be?  Pass.

It is nice that it has its own parking lot and again, that you can sit outside and enjoy a cool Magners on a hot summer's day, but I'm not sure I'd go here again just for the food (especially when Farm Burger and Watershed are right next door!).  I'd definitely recommend it for drinks, fun on a Saturday night, or a relaxing evening in the summer.

Made a return visit to Marlay House with a big group. A lot of people got food, so I got to try/look at things... First off, the fries here are amazeballs. So delicious. Stole most of my friend's... whatever.

Everything looks pretty decent. Friends had the portobello sandwich, fish and chips, vegetarian pot pie, and a few other things I forget. Fish and chips went over pretty well though I thought the serving seemed small. But I'm a piggie and like a lot on my plate. Two little pieces of fish is not enough for me. One of my more health-conscious friends wanted to switch the fries to broccoli... Two dollars extra. He did it, but wtf. I know potatoes are cheap, but aren't we supposed to be trying to eat healthier? Just throw the broccoli in, I say. Not everyone wants fried food with a side of fried food.

The beer selection here is good, and their cocktail list is pretty enticing too... There's a dragonfruit drink, cucumber-pear martini, etc. Yum.

Service here was whack. As in, not good. Forgetting drinks, taking forever to get drinks out. Waters went un-refilled. Several people were ordering Irish coffees and after a few were ordered the waitress came out to ask if anyone else was going to want one because they would need to brew more coffee. It was not late at this point, and I think if people order a drink that involves coffee, it's not a huge deal to brew more. Maybe that's just me.

Marlay House is super pleasant because the patio is so nice, but service here is kind of spotty which is sort of a bummer. I'll stick to drinks and fries and byo water next time.

Irish ownership.  They support Irish music.  Thoughtful menu.  Authentic appointments- no cheezy shamrocks here!  Marlay House is a fine Irish pub.

We were there last evening.  Good crowd on a Sunday night.  The Guiness Brisquet was tender and well seasoned.  It came with great mashed potatoes and an alluring aroma.

The Shrimp and Chips included meaty shrimp with a delicious crispy batter.  Can't say much for the chips but what the hell.  They pour a great pint.

The place has a friendly feel and is clearly a big part of the neighborhood. MH is one of the better Irish Pubs in Atlanta.

Having just come back from Ireland, you can understand why I'd be a little scared of a group meet up at a place trying to be an Irish pub. After all, it's rare that another country gets these things right. The Grange wound up putting my fears completely to rest!

    1. Guinness Floats. That's right, Guinness with a big pile of cold vanilla ice cream in it. It was so good and refreshing on that warm September night!

    2. Fish and chips were spot on. Minus the newspaper wrapping, but that's rare to find even in England nowadays. Seriously, this was like crack. Not completely like it's across the pond counterparts, but so well done compared to most establishments in Atlanta. Nom.

    3. Great space. The patio is large enough to hold at least 40 people assuming some don't mind standing. I have photo evidence. It's possible. The interior is large but the seating set up lends itself more to smaller groups, but the booths look so cozy and the design really does bring back memories of stumbling into Dublin pubs. Kudos to the interior designer on this one!

    4. Awesome staff. Out of our group of 40+, our single server - yes, ONE server! - managed to keep everyone happy, all drinks filled, all orders out quickly, and at the end of the night REMEMBERED WHAT WE ORDERED. Seriously, who can do that? That server deserves a 5-star review, hands down.

A great spot in Decatur that's off the beaten path and little bit quieter compared to your Brickstores and Twain's. Not that those aren't good as well, but you won't want to overlook this place for long. It's amazing!

I feel like a bad person writing this review after reading about everyone else's good experiences here. But I have to tell the truth. Perhaps it was a bad night. Or just a bad waitress. Or a combination of all of the above. Who knows. But let me explain.

Saturday night, around 8pm, eventual party of 12 on the patio for a birthday party. People stagger in as they arrive. Some people have already eaten by the time I arrive. More straggle in after me. My vegetarian friend and I glance over the menu, both starving, and agree to each get something different and then go halvsies and share. She notices the "Vegetarian Shepard's Pie", which the waitress warns us that no one who has ordered it has ever liked. Why would you even keep it on the menu then? Ugh! So, she opts for the "Tofu Sliders" and I get the "Mozzarella, Tomato and Basil Sandwich". They both come out. Mine looks great. And it is: thick slices of fresh mozzarella with thick slices of fresh tomato with chopped basil on top and then drizzled with a vinaigrette sauce. Delic! However... her sliders? EW! I can imagine the conversation in the kitchen as they were creating the menu.

"Oh, I guess we should have something vegetarian on the menu."
"Hmm... how about we take some raw tofu blocks, don't season them at all, barely fry them, throw them on a slider bun with some relish and call it food?"
"Oh yeah, sounds great. Vegetarians LOVE crap like that."

As it turns out, No we don't. My friend took one bite of the tasteless mess and spit the whole thing out. "This tastes horrible. Here, have a bite." Needless to say, I declined. When the waitress came back my friend asked for the menu again because she didn't like what she'd been served. She was handed a menu... and the waitress disappeared. No. Really. We never saw her again.

It started to rain, so we moved inside (where it was mostly empty) and finished our drinks and the rest of our food (except for my friend). Once we were inside, our waitress didn't ask anyone if they wanted more drinks. She didn't offer us any more beer. No refills on soda, tea or water. She never took another food order from my friend... who was sitting there still hungry. ((She didn't end up eating half of my sandwich because she was planning on ordering the same thing and by the time she realized she was going to get it, the food was long gone.))

The next time we saw our waitress she was bringing us our tabs. But more over, each individual person got their own bill. Hmmm... interesting, because every person there was there as a couple. Both my husband AND I had to pay separately, and since we don't carry cash, we each had our card swiped. As did everyone else in the party.

Like I said: it could have been the confusion of a big party, with sporadic add-ons, and then us moving inside. Maybe it was the rain, a full moon, simply a bad night for a bad waitress. I don't know. I really like to give people/places the benefit of a doubt unless they have a three-strike record with me.

I'm not discounting the place altogether. My food was good. The service was a FAIL, but MY food was good. So, I will probably try there again sometime in the future. But I know my friend won't ever go back.

I gathered with some girls here for a friend's Birthday, and I was very impressed with the quality of the food. I had a chicken Caesar salad with real, fresh lettuce; very crisp and refreshing. I also stuffed my face with some fries/chips, sprinkled with salt and vinegar, washing all of it down with a Strongbow Apple Cider and a seasonal ale with hints of honey.

My exuberance was heightened by the outdoor seating area, with a great view of downtown Decatur's greenspace, a light breeze rustling the trees and my fries.

Too bad it was a Monday night, or we would've hit up the Metalsome karaoke, too...

I am almost hesitant to write about this place because I do not want for it to become an overcrowded hotspot where I perpetually do not have any elbow room.  Alas, I must, because they are always so good to us when we go there and I figure I owe it to them.
We always feel completely welcomed when we go there by Colin and the rest of the crew.  We have only sat at the bar, but the waitstaff seem really sweet too.
My BF always gets the turkey burger because she says that it is fantastic.  I have only eaten a house salad which was a bit on the small side, but that is my fault for not ordering a proper meal.  The fries I have stolen off BF's plate rock.
Everything always smells heavenly that comes from the kitchen, especially Irish Stew.  Being a veg, however, limits my meat consumtion to unsatisfying sniffs.
    Comfy atmosphere, my kinda place.
Just save a seat for me at the bar.

RG and I decided to check out The Grange for dinner.  The beer selection is decent, but not as extensive as I thought it would be.
As far as the food, I had the beef brisket entree.  The brisket was tender and had a nice flavor.  The mashed potatoes were thick and rich and the vegetables were sauteed just right.  RG had the Shepherds Pie and said it was good.  Portions and price were in sync.

Regarding service, it was hard to tell if our server was rushing us or just overly attentive - it was a Monday night and fairly quiet so it wasn't a case of turning over the table.  At any rate, it was a bit annoying when every 5 minutes you are asked if you are ready for the check when you are still drinking your beer!  Might be better to ask, "can I get you another"?   Duh!

Overall, our experience was okay and will stop in again.

I have been a few times and overall I really like it. They have a decent beer selection and are working on getting even more beers. Can't really compare them to Brick Store or Taco Mac on the beer front, but the  food is pretty good grub and I think the prices are very fair. I really like the braised short rib, but the pasta  dish was pretty bland.
The crowd has been kid heavy in the early evenings, so you might want to consider going after 8:00  PM if you don't want to have to fight the toddlers for a seat!  Seriously, on my last visit there was a little girl ridding a tricycle inside, WTF??

    First!

Okay, it totally doesn't count b/c I can't *really* yelp the private soft launch I attended tonight, but after the "hard" launch Saturday I'll be back to write more.

Needless to say, the new interior is stunning and clean, the owners are kind and friendly folk straight off the boat and I'll be a regular.
