Earlier in the night, we saw the line wrapped around the block in both directions and we all scoffed - "ha, silly sheep".  Later that evening, we arrived with VIPs and poof! Amnesia to cynicism. Best seats in the house - upstairs, front and center - this is the temple of house music.  Pierce Fulton was the bomb.

Came here for an event and paid $20 to get in (cash only), I was actually surprised by how nice it was inside.

    What I liked.
The sounds system and lights are really high quality equiment.
Spacious dance floor. Two levels where you can see the dancefloor from upstairs.
Bathroom line goes super fast, there are more girls stalls than other clubs.
Similar to Circle but significantly less racist.

    What I didn't like.
Inconsistant drink prices, the prices upstairs are more expensive than when I got the drinks downstairs.
Walked around a lot and found a few peices of garbage on the floor.

At no point in my life have I ever considered myself a "clubhead" or anything close to it. I've always enjoyed good music and dancing, so naturally I did enjoy clubs, but not to the point where I'd be itching to go every week. Give me a good bar or lounge with a good DJ and I'd be a happy man.

With that being said, I do appreciate a good dance club, and the Las Vegas version of Marquee was probably my favorite one in the world (Pacha Sydney was a close second). I figured that the NYC version of Marquee could live up to its name, but alas I was sorely mistaken.

To start, the bouncer outside had a god complex, which was funny because it had been awhile since I'd seen an NYC bouncer act this way. Apparently my small chain (hidden beneath a dress shirt and undershirt) was too much bling to handle, and I couldn't go inside while wearing it. Really?

As I'm much too old to start arguing with a bouncer, I took it off and put it back on inside. Duh. On to the inside...but wait, apparently the guestlist I was on was only free entry for girls. Guys = $60. What is this, New Year's Eve?

I had half a mind to leave, seeing as I paid $0 on a guestlist at Marquee Vegas, but against my better judgment I proceeded.

The dance floor reminded me of a high school dance party. No animation in the crowd whatsoever. Just a bunch of sardines packed inside.

Getting to the bar? took forever. Getting to the bathroom? took forever (even for guys! wtf are you fellas doing in there?).  The only possible upsides to this place are the light system and the stage up front.

I mercifully exited the club a short while later. If you're really in the clubbing mood, pick any other place but this one. 1.5 stars, rounded down because they've sullied the Marquee name in my mind.

    Pros:

stage and lighting system similar to Vegas Marquee

    Cons:

    everything else

*hearts in fucking eyes* For me, this place beats the one in Vegas. It would be like if Jet Lee and Jackie Chan got into a fight. Close call but Marquee NY would def TKO the battle. Wayy more dancing room but deducted a point for the $17 drinks.

I went here for a "private" party amid the clubgoers,  and I'm going to go ahead and be honest: We were a smorgasbord of random people. And not all of us looked cool. However, I was very cute. (I'm biased, though.)

No matter, I was there to support my friend, who was throwing the party. She said we had to be there by 10:30 to get in free before 11. We got there and the club doesn't even open until 11. Then the bouncers let in the people who had to pay first and left us "VIPs" waiting in another line.

They started letting us in and then started demanding $50 -- that's right $50 -- from some of us after letting the first few of us in for free. My friend talked them down to $20. Keep in mind that we were all supposed to get in for free. Perhaps they didn't want to let some of us in?

Anyway, I got in for free and was not impressed. It's a cool space with an upper level that overlooks the dance floor and more than one bar, but a club is a club is a club.

The other issue with getting somewhere right when the club opens is that the club is practically empty.

I felt no desire to purchase a drink and left after spending approximately 10 minutes inside.

Really great club... if you like waiting in line.  The line to get in is dreadful.  We rolled up and asked the people directly in front of us how long they had been waiting - 20 minutes!  And then another 5 minutes before we moved.  The line just creeps up soooo slowly.  The door-people are not nice - rude would be a polite way of putting it, they seem amazingly flustered (although there are like 8 of them), and they're really not efficient.  After a nice long 40 dehumanizing minutes of not even being able to see the front of the line - we went to a lovely bar and had nice strong cocktails.  I just don't do lines, and I really don't do attitude - and I can't believe there are still long cluster fracks behind velvet ropes (I mean I know the 90's are back, but this ...) so I'll never go back to this place.

I was in the guest list line - however, the line for presale tickets seemed equally horrible - even the line to spend $1k for bottle service was crazy long and horrible and they were still giving attitude to people willing to pay insane markup for booze.  The only people treated well were those who walked up and seemed to know someone who worked there...  In fact the bouncer even said 'sorry I gotta take care of the people who work here first' - so employees over customers - it's an interesting business model.

New Marquee is a whole different story from the hell hole that it was just a couple months ago.
New Marquee is sleek. The lights are amazing, and the acoustics are among the best of any club in the city. Although I will say, I walked out of the club nearly deaf after having spent my night there.
The line is efficient - 3 lines: one for???, one for table reservations, and one for general admissions. The door is easy. I'm pretty sure as long as you pay the cover (if you don't know a promoter there), then you should be fine. I've never had trouble, but have only gone when a promoter was there so I didn't have to pay the absurd $50 covers that they occasionally charge.
I will say, it does look a bit smaller than the old Marquee. Maybe it was because I didn't go in the back area or up the stairs. But the main area seemed a little smaller.
I think the gay party at Le Baron/Le Bain has moved here - Catwalk Thursdays are now at Marquee - so keep in mind if you come on a Thursday, you'll be dancing amongst drag queens (++++) and people wearing some of the most beautiful and extravagant costumes on the planet.

    Get to the Chase:

    Pros:
    1) So no club is perfect, but from what Manhattan offers Marquee certainly delivers in all other respects: Good time, great acoustics, lasers/smoke/bubbles, and a great doormen/bouncers (for ONCE they are polite, sensible, and not on unnecessary powertrips with disrespectful aggression)
    2) Very diverse crowd! +1
    3) The renovation is ABSOLUTELY SPOT ON! LED Lights, lasers the works! HUGE improvement in the club atmosphere.
    4) GREAT DJ's at a very reasonable price! DJ Bambi (and in the past other headliners in both House, Tech-House, Progressive, and Trance) for $20-$30 pre-sale tickets
    5) Has an upper-deck that can be great for those who don't want to dance and have a great view, while a lower deck with more space for dancers! Find me on the lower deck for sure!

    Cons:
    1) UUUUUUnfortunately the crowd, which is not Marquee's fault in a sense, had completely ruckus idiots and people there who were completely disrespectful...you'll find a looooota "Bros" and d-bags throwing attitude, aggression and sloppiness...if you can't hold your drink STAY HOME
    2) Oversold tickets or something, because like any other club it was way too packed by 1:00 AM you couldn't have fun dancing...it was just a farm with animals shoulder to shoulder

    side note:
-3 drunk dudes who clearly were actually physically hurting people by "moshing"/falling over each other/flailing arms should have been kicked out....but they were at front stage, and nothing was done about it...at one point they took a bottle of water and beers and just emptied the whole thing on themselves and the crowd...they then hit some people in the face and also some pieces of clothing were on the floor...god whey weren't they ejected
-Completely wasted drunk girl getting taken advantage of, but she didn't seem to mind, and threw her freaking tumbler in the air and hit someone in the face...wtf....
-LESSON: DON'T GO TO THE DANCE FLOOR with drinks in hand and expecting it to not get knocked or spilled out of your hands! It's a dance floor not a bar! ...and don't push/punch someone when you stand there not dancing at all...

Nice spacious club, nice sound system, nice DJ, etc.. Drinks were good but way too pricey. Got entertained while I was in line waiting by a bouncer that seemed to feel too empowered by his title. Funny. I would probably go back, nothing out of this world really, just a club.

The newly renovated marquee is much better than the old one. They have a pretty nice dance floor and DJ stage, which is nice; from time to time, they have good guest DJs perform like David Guetta, Tiesto, Dash Berlin, etc. You now have the option to buy tickets online in advance if you are interested in certain DJs. So no drama at the door anymore if you have tickets. The only thing is, I guess I'm just not a fan of its crowd; although marquee is located in Chelsea, it attracts a lot of meatpacking-style girls...

    - Marquee got RENOVATED!!
    - So everyone at the dance floor now stands as one collective dead-ass crowd to look at the DJ and his Macbook.
    - And there are now colorful disco lights...
    - And LAZORS!! I pew pew you QQ.
    - The table servers are so diligent. They come switching new glasses and fresh ice cubes every 5 minutes. Absolutely excessive but I don't mind.
    - I still don't know if Marquee is an Asian club?? Why are there always so many Asians??
    - The music sucked. But the DJ was hyped and he danced.
    - Mehh... you can get wasted else where.

While I'm pretty sure the nightlife is another story and it's probably another pretentious sad song ( I would NOT be surprised), the day party thrown by Flavorpill and Absolut was too wild. The interior is beautiful, bartenders nice. The kid with the tattoo has skills on the bartending tip.

    Possibly Racist.

Marquee nightclub wouldn't let me in. I was with a promoter who wouldn't tell me why. I asked again after I left and he said they said I was too short. I saw numerous bigger, heavier white women wearing platform heels and tights (?!) let in. I've never heard of being turned away for being short. And I'm petite but by no means a midget. I'm 5ft and I was wearing stilettos, so I guess I stood at 5'4". I'm no supermodel, but your actual face didn't seem to be a factor regardless. I saw large girls turned away and no dark skinned people let in except for two black promoters.

At Gansevoort another promoter told me that post re-opening Marquee was going through a racist phase where they were looking for tall white women and that it would die down. I say... Go with a real promoter who's always gotten you in, or go in white face. This club will let in bridge and tunnel trash but not real New Yorkers.

Opening night here was insanity. Amazing light show displays, dancers (even midgets), performers, beautiful crowd. They tried to recreate Las Vegas in NYC and they did it flawlessly. The venue is incredibly spacious, the upstairs is perfectly situated overlooking the entire downstairs area - all of this making the sound system impeccable especially for the big DJ's they have playing here.

Approaching the club, it looks like an old-worn down movie theater which is a great contrast to the inside. The heating systems they have installed in the waiting line are a great bonus during the winter weather. However, the place is lacking its spark since the opening. The music on the weekends is now mostly tech house, same beat over and over again. No variety whatsoever. On the Tiesto night, the club turned a bit too much into a rave especially since they removed some of the tables in front of the DJ booth which caused the guidos to get a bit frantic - reminding me of the unpleasantness of Pacha, yuck. Nevertheless, the venue is more than worth checking out at least once - but more so on the big event nights.

    Marquee, a haiku

    Spikey hair and heels,
    Oxford shirts and icky skirts,
    but good sound system.

With a guest list score to a Susanne Bartsch party, it was impossible to say no even after a busy day in the city.

The club was new and clean and Susanne's dances are little whiffs of the club kid era.
Hendricks gin for $12, was actually cheaper than I had expected.
But since bars don't have menus, it's prudent to ask prices before ordering.

    Bathroom attendants.

Haven't been to Marquee since you had to carry mace.... This place is awesome... the staff is great, drinks are pricey but strong... acts seem ok. BUT the layout sucks.... crowded and lots of people just standing around on the DANCE FLOOR... lounge in the lounge :-)... anyway.. they did a very nice job renovating, and I wish them a great future! Speed up coat check, and tweek your service pathways (bottles through the dance floor is never good.) I'll be back! Thanks you!

I had the time of my life at Marquee.
One of my most memorable nights in NYC
The fabulous DJ vice was spinning so he had the whole club bouncing.
Not to mention that I got to meet his fabulous wife here also!

Pricing on drinks are a little steep and they DO ADD TIP so check you receipts.
Coat check is your standard 4 dollars and admission was 40 due to the DJ on the turn tables. So you can say that things can get pricey... BUT the club is fabulous

The night I was there the club was PACKED. It is a two story venue and there was still very limited space to walk or even dance. The party goes on till 6 in da morning! So don't bother showing up till midnight!

Boy did i have higher expectations for this place and i was sooo let down.

The crowd was good.  I really can't complain about that.  They have their share of the "Me and my bottle service are better than you" crowd but all in all, can't complain.  At least they didn't get bent out of shape if you leaned on THEIR couch.

The staff - they were nice but i think the bartenders are pretty shady in how they charge.  my drink for the night was vodka and cranberry - the first one we bought was $14 - ok, that's reasonable.  the next one was $17 - hmm? the next one was $21 - wtf? Let's call that strike one.

Now let's talk about the place and space.  They pack it in.  I mean really pack it in.  There is no room to walk, move, try to take a breather here and there.  Oh wait - there is an upstairs but you need to belong to some special group of have paid more to go up there.  Is it all bottle service? no - it's the special stamp you have to get to go.  Strike 2.

Now let's talk about the most important thing of all in a club - the sound.  You spend a couple of years and millions to revamp the place and you put in a sound system that blows.  My ears are STILL ringing from the darned speakers in that place.  Strike 3.

Would i go back?  not likely.  It would have to be one hell of a headlining DJ to drag me back there.

One of the notorious nightclubs of New York City, Marquee had been recently closed for renovation.  I'd never been to the old version but the new version was EPIC.  I was there for a private company anniversary party so it's hard for me to differientiate what was on behalf of the club and what was part of the anniversary party but regardless it was amazing.  It felt just like a Vegas club, jungle themed, with dancers in one piece animal print spandex, a woman playing an electric violin and an array of party favors from leopard print hats to feline ear headbands to men in loinclothes painting whiskers on faces.  The DJ set was excellent and the drinks were strong.  I also love that I could order a vodka soda with a splash of lime and the bartender knew that meant lime juice NOT a lime squeezed into the drink.  LOVED IT.

Club Marquee won't last long due to their shady dishonest illegal business antics.

Bank statement shows an additional gratuity of 20%?

So with the addition of my $8 times 3 water bottle, two $20 gin and tonics, and an $8 diet coke sprayed from your bar, TIP even for the non alcoholic beverages, you're also charging a hidden scumbag fee of 20%???

Where do you get off charging these prices? Even the bartender was embarrassed.

They also charge $6 for coat check.

This club is nuts there are far more upscale places that I frequent and don't even charge as much.

$8 for diet coke out of your bar?!?!?

    Hahahahaaaaahahahaa

Wouldn't even be worth my time reviewing had the 20% additional charge to my credit card on top of paying the ridiculous drink prices and tipping very well had not been done.

    Scumbag move my friends.

Skip coat check. The girls they hired completely embarrassed my entire group. They were completely rude and disrespectful to me and the clients I was showing around NYC. Staff at a club like this should act professional. When did luxury get so commercialized that coat check thinks they have more authority than the guest. Ruined the rest of the night.

Marquee has the best music and I always have a great time here. It is so fun because everyone is dancing and energetic. They play a mix of house and hip hop. I think Jason and Noah did an excellent job renovating the space, the ceiling is very high now and the space is very well thought out, including a magnificent dance floor, it brings nightlife back to New York City, the way it used to be! It's a New York club with a Vegas vibe! The revamped space is world class, possibly the best nightclub in Manhattan right now...Congrats to the owners for a notable job!!!

Revamped Marquee: Better than ever before! I have been a regular at the old Marquee, when it was still good back in the days, and when Stevie Wonder would sing 'happy birthday' all out of the blue once. Then hip and trendy Marquee sort of lost its allure for a while, partially related to Bungalow 8, Cain , Pink Elephant and Crobar's vanishing from 27th st.

Fast forward a few years, and Veni Vidi Vici: like a phoenix that has risen from it's golden ashes, Marquee is back. I was dazzled and impressed by the costumes, moves and looks of the  beautiful go-go dancers. The DJ's (Gareth Emery, etc)  were amazing. Great visual art in the background of the spinning tables. Good crowd. The place is packed to the max. If you are an agoraphobic, this will not be your kind of place. Dance floor is of a decent size. Dancing is possible, but it's tight. I felt I was better off hiding at the table, because so many people tried to walk through me with their glasses that were filled to the rim (Hey have a sip please before you try to bash through me, okay?)

Marquee attracted the best of the best to work with them, so they have great potential to stay around in NY nightlife's top 10 of best night clubs. I feel like the crowd and myself included could have had a bit more fun on the dance floor.  A lot of people were just standing instead of dancing, but that might have had to do with the amount of people that were there on the opening night.

The door is a bit of a hassle to get in. Expect the same amount of people as you would see outside of a club on a night like Halloween, so bring some patience upon arrival. Don't forget to wear waterproof clothes, because I guarantee you that someone will splash a drink over you at some point, while you try to move around through the crowded place.
