I thought this place was pretty fun. I like that it's a microbrewery and their honey wheat is yummy. It's pretty humongous too... I had no idea how large this bar was until we started walking through it and it just kept going. I like how there are areas for everyone. If you want to stay near the front and chill by the bar, then you can do that. You walk upstairs and there's another bar area but with pool and darts. Then outside is a mini-beer-garden-esque area. Then across that is yet another indoor area with dancing. It was pretty loud in there but looked large with lots of lights and I think I even saw fog at one point coming from the dancefloor. Overall, a fun place! If you aren't feeling one section, then just move the another one! Almost like 3 bars in one.
Review Source:Stopped here before visiting the gateway arch. We were the first people coming in for brunch. I had pretzels and my wife has a portabello mushroom salad. She enjoyed the salad but the pretzel had way too much salt, which was difficult to imagine because I am a salt lover. I guess being a brewery thats the way to encourage more drinking.
Review Source:The employees of the neighboring restaurant tried mightily to get us to duck into their (2.5 star) establishment on our way to Morgan Street Brewery. I'm so thankful that Yelp, along with our gut feelings, prompted us to continue on our journey.
This place rocks! Their beers are delicious and low-priced. The fried mashed potato ball things are fantastic, as is the rest of their food. I had the bacon-wrapped meatloaf and it was a beautiful hangover cure, along with the aforementioned beer. My buddy got the Morgan Street burger with bacon, cheese, 1/2 lb. of fresh ground beef and a fried egg! Wow! This thing was a monster! He finished the whole thing, to our amazement. Everything we had at our table was delicious. The service was great and we never had to wait or want for anything.
Next time I'm in St. Louis, I'm definitely stopping here!
So here we are, deep winter in St. Louis with an afternoon/evening to kill before we blast back to the warmth of SoCal. Â We were staying in the dumpy Four Seasons (see that review) and were looking for a place to kick back. Â The casino adjoining the dumpy hotel was also a turd pit, but we did see this beautiful brick building out the window that said 'Brewery' and decided to explore. Â The whole Morgan Street area was kind of a run down divey area that looked like it was a summer tourist trap zone, being next to the arch, and most places were shuttered for the season or just flat out of business.
The brewery looked nice, but at late afternoon was empty save for a couple folks at a table and one guy at the bar. Â You can see the impressive operations through the glass behind the bar. Â The lady tending bar was incredibly nice. Â We stopped in for a quick pint and wound up spending a few hours and a more than a few pints. Â The bartender's name was Dorcus. Â We thought she was kidding until she showed us the name on her paycheck. Â She really was the one who made the positive experience. Â The beer was good and she did a good job on the upsell, but she also made us feel like locals that had been coming in for years.
Thanks for a great afternoon! Â If we're back to St. Louis, we'll definitely stop back in.
Would the real Morgan Street Brewery stand up?
This place has a bit of an identity crisis. Â Based on whatever night I go to Morgan Street, that would really dictate my review on this brewery, restaurant, and nightclub. Â However, my most recent trip was a definite success.
I think that the real problem with Morgan Street is the location. Â Laclede's Landing used to be a major spot in St Louis City, but it has seen better days. Â Even in my earliest days of being 21+, I was pretty indifferent to going out down there. Â In fact, it got old fast. Â With the rebirth of Washingston Ave and many suburban folk flocking to Main Street in St. Charles, the Landing just isn't the place to be anymore.
And Morgan Street has to cater to what's left of the late night audience. Â The second part of the complex has been devoted to a nightclub type atmosphere, which is absoloutely terrible. Â The last time we experienced that scene was a few New Year's ago, and I will never come to MSB on a big night like that again.
With my major beefs out of the way, here's the bright side. Â The beer is actually pretty good. Â I would consider MSB more of a restaurant, and I would think several patrons would agree with that statement. Â When people come in looking for a Bud Light, you're probably presenting yourself wrong. Â If anything, Morgan Street needs to ditch the domestics and serve nothing but their own beer. Â Because it has improved over the years.
They're even getting creative with it. Â They don't just emhasize dull lagers and pilsners. Â My favorite drink is the Black Bear, a malty black lager that really does stand well among other successful breweries' concoctions. Â I also tried the Doppelbock on Sunday, and it was another solid effort. Â I'm not as big on the Honey Wheat, their most popular, but the Golden Pilsner is nice. Â Also, we tried some unique flavors like their Lactovision Belgian-Style Dark Lager (almost wine-ish) and the EB Cream, both fascinating efforts.
The night was pretty low key, which I always appreciated, but the bartender was pretty helpful and very knowledgeable of his beer. Â It was one of the better experiences that I've had at Morgan Street Brewery.
Avoid this place like the plague on weekends and big party nights, but definitely give it a shot on a quiet evening. Â To me, that's the best time to sample the brewery's intriguing beers.
So, I'm a tourist in St. Louis. This place is great. We had first went to the Schlafly Tap Room and there was an hour wait, which is obviously crazy, so we went to this brewery.
Starters:
Salads and Pretzels: 3 Stars. -I'm a salad snob. The cheese with the pretzels is a.m.a.z.i.n.g!
Meals:
Meatloaf: DELICIOUS! So much flavor, such a pleasant surprise.
The rest of my party had:
Andouille Sausage Pasta-This has a slight cajun flavor, but was great.
Special-Egg, mozzarella, jalapeño, etc. burger with their little cotiques - so good!
Scallop special- I did not even get to taste this as my friend ate it so fast!!
Great portions, great service, great location.
I went to Morgan Street with a large group on Thursday night. They were quite accommodating. I tried the dried apricot chicken salad. The salad was huge and very good. I also tried the black bear beer, which was good. The atmosphere was comfortable, and calm. I would like to try some more of their brews. We parked in a lot across the street for $5, but there was probably street parking if we were willing to look harder.
Review Source:I was with group of local residents that normally bring their out of town guests to the Laclede Landing area. I enjoyed the surroundings of brick buildings and cobblestone roads. Be careful if you are walking in heels, though...
The restaurant: I really like the atmosphere, and the service was good. It looks like the thing to order is the beer sampler for drinks here, given that it's a brewery.
As for the food, it seems that I enjoyed the appetizers much more than the entrees. Appetizers such as: mashed potato balls, pretzel with cheese sauce, blue crab cakes, pizza.. I watched a server walked by with an order of Blue Cheese Burger, then thought to myself: that looks really good; maybe I should have gotten that. I'll do that next time...
Review 3.5 for this visit. We'll be back!
Our group decided to go here for New Year's Eve mainly because they weren't doing the ticketed-entrance/open-bar deal (mostly because we didn't want to get stuck at a crappy bar). Â The website said they had a $5 cover and a champagne toast at midnight so to Morgan Street Brewery. Â
First off, when we got there they charged us $20 at the door! Â Since we were already there, we begrudgingly paid because there is no need to argue with the door-men. Â
Other than that, this bar is huge! Â I mean, I was drinking a lot, so some of the memories are a little fuzzy, but I remember there being a full downstairs bar, a full upstairs bar, a little area outside with heaters, then another dance bar behind that, then ANOTHER bar behind that! Â Needless to say, it was pretty busy there but not so crowded to where you couldn't easily go between the bars. Â Drinks were fairly priced and the music was great all night! Â
I'll be curious to go back and try some of their food and beers, but it's definitely not high on my list of things to check out in Saint Louis.
I happened to stop at this place on a whim after visiting the Arch during my first visit to St. Louis. Â My experience at Morgan Street was so great, I planned on visiting when I returned to St. Louis. Â My second experience was just as great. Â I have to say- their roast beef au jus with coniques is amazing. Â And their honey wheat beer is my personal favorite there. Â The brewery itself is pretty cool- and in one of the best locations in St. Louis. Â The staff is really friendly (despite the fact I'm a Seahawk fan) and the brick building is warm and inviting. Â A must visit food wise if you're in St. Louis.
Review Source:Why 4 stars? Because this place had character.
 ---  ---  ---
Maybe I'm just a sucker for old, big, brick buildings. Regardless Morgan Street just that, which makes it cool in my book. I write best-selling books, FYI.
The beer selection was improved here (obviously) over my previous stop at Big Daddy's. Then again, Morgan Street Brewery didn't have an empty dance floor to laugh at.
But beer is a tie-breaker for me, and that makes MSB the winner of this random Battle Royale of St. Louis bars that I tried one April night.
Winner, winner, my pre-school teacher's name was Mrs. Limmer. I wonder how she is.*
*This was a more unique way of saying "Winner, winner... chicken dinner." I hate clichés. They're lazy.
i'd give this place a 3.5 for late night dance scene (closes at 3am)
getting here- some street parking, some paid parking or free parking in the lumiere hotel lot
this place is located in laclede landing. it's fairly large with several bars and an outdoor courtyard type thing connecting one end of the restaurant/bar to the other. many of the bars were quiet and completely deserted.
one end of the restaurant/bar has a medium sized dance floor. the DJs started out with a great mix of dance/techno music, but as the night went on the music went downhill with poor transitions between songs. the drinks were strong, music loud and lots of dancing. it's an eclectic group of people and very smoky inside. i'd only go here towards the end of the night for dancing with a big group of friends.
We wanted to grab a quick bite before getting on the train and heading back to Chicago... so Morgan Street Brewery here we come! I really wish I knew about this area before because I would have wanted to come check it out.
I love trying as many foods as I can...so I am a big food splitter (as in, you get this, I'll get this and we'll split it). So, we had the Portabella Mushroom Salad [I substituted for a balsamic vinegar dressing...it was perfect!] and the Bleu Cheese Burger (also perfect).
We tried the Honey Wheat and Golden Pilsner, both are clean and refreshing. You can get 16oz's for $5 or 24oz's for $6. You won't be surprised to know that I went with the larger of the two.
All in all, this place is great but it's also a total tourist trap (and the reason I was there. Damn tourist's!)
So this place is awful!! They have a front bar & a back bar with an outdoor patio in between...when I was there I was in the back bar at last call. I went to walk to the front bar to close my tab & the bouncer wouldn't let me in the front bar. When I told him I had an open tab he said "tough s@&$" and said I couldn't go back in. I had to fly home with out my debit card. The drinks are over priced & the staff is the worst I have ever experienced. There is no reason to go to this bar.
Review Source:Great restaurant! I enjoyed a fall beer flight (sampler), blue crab cake, and Greek salad whilst sitting outside also enjoying a beautiful October afternoon. My dog, Akina, sat with me enjoying a burger and the kindness extended to her by the waitstaff. (hostess brought her a bowl of water as soon as we sat down-- without me asking! very thoughtful and appreciated. thank you!!) beers were YUM, especially the unfiltered honey wheat. crab cake was perfect; large and filling. (I hate a too-tiny crab cake.) :(
also, the dainty potato 'conettes', as i was told they were called, oooh myyy gawwwd...; baked or flash-fried, I don't remember, mashed potato puffs squeezed from a pastry bag into little cones/shells of deliciousness.
Nice for dining or going out.
Had a pizza there before, wish I could remember what it was...oh my god was it good...I think I've enjoyed all of their foods and desserts I've had there, and the wine is decent (I don't drink beer so can't comment on that).
It's really neat after 9 when you can go upstairs. They have a pool table area, dancing area, patio area..
4 stars for two reasons. Went out here once in October of last year with friends. Bathroom upstairs had a broken beer bottle and puke all over it and one of the doors broken. Bartender wouldn't get anyone to clean it. Disgusting.
Another time we went here for dinner and the waiter was a little bit of a smart ass and took forever for our food to get out. Then he gave us someone elses food (they got the same thing as us) and we could tell since we had just gotten there and the other table had been there awhile. I guess to overcompensate he didn't bring out  the rest of ours for quiet a while. It was just bad service.
My husband and I enjoyed a late dinner at LaClede's  Landing.  The cobblestone roads and surrounding area was really unique.  When we got there, the area was bustling with activity.  Being a psychiatric nurse, I was quite interested in watching the people.  As the night got later and the people sparser, I became pretty uncomfortable with the area though.  Many homeless looking people, psychotic people and sketchy looking people troll that area.  Unfortunately, I didn't notice any police at all.  These folks would walk back and forth 3 or 4X.  We were actually the last ones left on the patio around 10:00.  When my husband went inside to the restroom, I felt the need to go inside due to safety concerns.
On to the food...good stuff! I ordered an orzo pasta with veggies as well as a Greek salad. Â The side bread to the salad could have broken a tooth though! However, the bread brought with my dinner was a crusty white bread that was delicious! My husband ordered a sandwich that he really enjoyed. Â The beer special $8.00 pitcher was to our liking, too.
Server? We had a great, friendly and efficient server. Â I wish I could remember his name because he deserves recognition. Â I noticed another young employee (I cannot imagine what his role was), though, that ogled one of the women and reached out his hand toward her as she passed the front of the restaurant-- messin' with her. Â I found that inappropriate.
I wanted to mention the inside. Â The night was beautiful so most of the customers were seated outside. Â When I went inside to the restroom, I noticed the beautiful interior, which contained real old-looking wood. Â I loved that!
If we return to St. Louis, we would definitely want to go back. Â I would insist we go at lunch time, though.
NO BACHELOR PARTIES ALLOWED!!! Â Was told they would not allow a bachelor party in by an over-aggressive security guard. We were completely calm and well behaved. When we asked why, he responded with profanity and verbal insults. He then threatened to have us arrested for trespassing as we were standing on the public sidewalk. Very disrespectful and started the night off on a negative note.
Review Source:Normally I am a leery of dining in touristy areas, but this place seemed to score solid enough reviews on Yelp (thanks!) so my family and I gave it a go. Wise choice! The duck hummus was unique and a hit with everyone, the salmon was flavorful and the potatoes that came with were creamy, and the "small" salad was large enough to share with three people. Really. A little on the expensive side but it is a tourist area, and when the food is actually good one can't complain too much about the cost.
Of course, you don't come to a microbrewery and not have a beer, right? Lucky you - they offer a flight of the five beers on tap and none disappoint. It was also dirt cheap, so if you're just looking to try a good beer, you're in luck; you'll escape with a tiny bill.
Whenever I'm traveling I'm always on the lookout for a restaurant with an atmosphere I feel like I can hangout in. Comfortable and not too loud. It's also good to see what the brewery scene is like in other places besides Portland, the brew pub capital to beat . The gold standard of brewpubs in the country. Most of the time there is no comparison. Morgan Street Brewery met most of these needs. It's a place I feel like I can hang out in with good atmosphere and friendly staff. Our server had just moved here from Portland due to a family issue, and she wasn't very happy about having to do that. She hopes to someday return to Portland. After a brief visit to St. Louis, I can't say I blame her.
So, when you are perusing the beer menu and all you can find is lager, there is something very wrong with that, especially coming from a place that holds itself out as a brewpub. That is the only reason they get 3 and not 4 stars. I would give them another half star if I could do that.
The food was good though and I had the Grilled Portabella Salad, which was very good, albeit a bit lean on the extras. Marinated portabella mushrooms served on mixed greens with Parmesan, tomato, balsamic vinaigrette, and goat cheese croutons. This marked one of the rare occasions where I violate my gluten-free status. Those croutons were just damn good and I had to eat one. My mate had the Sauteed Shrimp over Linguini Pasta. Tomato, asparagus, garlic, bacon, and 3 herb light cream sauce. He said it was excellent.
If you're ever in St. Louis and in the Laclede's Landing area, this is probably the place to go. Give them your business and help revitalize the Landing. I know they would appreciate it.
Morgan Street Brewery would be getting a 3.5/5 from me if Yelp allowed half stars. I'm always up for trying local breweries when I'm in a new city. Hop up the cobble stone road and you'll see the brewpub that fills two or three of the surrounding buildings. The menu is pretty small but the food is quite good. Turkey sandwich with a bowl of flank steak with cracked wheat soup really hit the spot. The turkey was thick, the multi grain bread fluffy.
The servers are friendly and ours even offered me a taster sample of the steak with cracked wheat soup before I decided to order it.
One of the best parts though is the price of the sampler flight of beer. $5.50 for six 5 oz glasses. Yes, you read right. $5.50. Their honey wheat lager was absolutely delicious. I really wish they sold that in six packs so I could take it home to share the glory.
All in all - Morgan Street is a pretty typical brewpub but that's not to say that's it's not worth a visit. It's a pleasant surrounding area, good food, and a great deal on beer. It was just an overall good experience.
Morgan Street Brewery, a.k.a. "Where's the hops?"
This is a fun little microbrewery in the Laclebe's Landing (Old St.Louis) area. Â This review doesn't cover the food, which looked great!
It has an older building and did well with the venue. Old stone street out front, and they have sidewalk seating to take in the scene.
This has to be the most affordable micros I've encountered in 100+ unique visits across the USA. After 9pm they have $2/pitchers... Yes, PITCHERS!!!! Growlers only $9.75 ($8.75 refill)!!
The brew ski:
Honey Wheat ~ (7/10): Â Unfiltered, smooth.
Black Bear ~ (6/10): Â Light black lager, mellow notes of roast coffee.
Golden Pilsner ~ (3/10): Â Light, meh... quality ingredients?
Irish Stout ~ (5/10): Â Dark chocolate coffee notes, smooth finish.
Maibock ~ (3/10): Â Malty, sweet, balanced.
Good beer, great venue, extremely friendly service!
Good burgers, crazy cheap beers and a mysterious up stairs filled with people in glittery dresses on a Tuesday night, what's not to like?! Â Oh and awesome posters of happy, dancing bears!
Yes, what's not to like?! mm....I guess the weird instant mashed potato fried balls? Those were kind of gross.
I was part of a well-behaved bachelor party just looking to have fun on the Landing. The no-necked bouncers let 4 of my friends in after paying the cover, but as soon as they found out we're a bachelor party, they refused to let the rest of us in. They would not refund the 4 friends who had just paid and were still standing in the foyer.
Anyways, eff this place.
I have a love-hate relationship with Morgan Street Brewery. Note that I have never been during the day. Wait, they serve LUNCH?! Wait, they brew BEER?! Despite the very OBVIOUS hint in their NAME, I didn't catch onto this. Because I've only ever seen people drinking 40s of Bud Light. Yeah, at night, it attracts THAT crowd.
Ya know what, sometimes I'm in the mood for that. Which is why I find myself at Morgan Street. I'm 22 years old and single. Sometimes I just wanna drink and dance and people watch and maybe catch the eye of a hot guy. Damn it, so sue me. We early 20s-year-olds are very basic creatures with very basic needs.
I like the diversity of the place. More sports bar downstairs, more pool hall upstairs, nice patio, and then across from that, a nightclub. It acknowledges all my multiple personalities! So whatever you're in the mood for, even if it changes from one minute to the next, you will be taken care of here. I love it for that reason..
I hate it for the drink prices. $7 for a house vodka and Sprite? Kiss my ass! And I hate it for the meat market it truly is. But hey, I guess I did ask for it.
But seriously, the amount of guys that circle around on the dance floor and stare LITERALLY with their tongues hanging out kind of makes me want to vomit. And please, gentlemen, don't use your "You and me baby ain't nothin' but mammals" method of coming up behind me and attaching yourself to my ass. Don't act surprised when I turn around and SHOVE you away from me. Or shove my stiletto spike into your foot.
Sigh. Can't a girl just come dance with her friends without being molested?
Other than that...this place can be pretty fun. If you can put up with the creepos and bring a big group of friends, you can make yourself a pretty good night.
All right, this is long overdue. Â Scathing, yes. Â Uncalled for, not so much.
So, here's why I am not a fan of Morgan Street Brewery. Â Is it the food? Â Nope. Â The beer? Â Nope. Â The service? No.
The management? Â You better believe it.
Let me sum up. Â Over a year ago, my fiancee-now-wife and I were trying to find a restaurant downtown that we could drop off our 8-person wedding party while we got some pictures of ourselves in the area. Â You know, like dropping your kids off at daycare, but with tuxedos and beer. Â It didn't seem like a crazy plan. Â In fact, our awesome wedding coordinator came up with the idea...and she's frickin' brilliant (Simply Elegant Events).
We took an afternoon to scope out the Landing, and after having a lovely lunch and drinks at Morgan Street Brewery, we decided that it would be perfect. Â Their interior was nice and open, the prices were fine, and the beers were good.
So the wedding day came, and it was beautiful. Â My stunning new wife and I joined our EIGHT friends on our minibus, and we proceeded to go downtown. Â
Mind you, we are all in our 30s and fairly well behaved. Â Also, many of us had worked in a lot of restaurants, and we know how shitty it is to have drunk wedding idiots ruin a good afternoon. Â So we know better. Â
Anyway, we show up at Morgan Street Brewery , smiling and happy, and were pleased to find that it wasn't too busy. Â There were a lot of tables open, and the bar area was pretty empty. Â I spoke to the hostess and let her know that we just need a couple of tables for our EIGHT friends to sit at and enjoy a few drinks for about 45 minutes.
She disappears and talks to the manager. Â We notice that there was another wedding party there on the second floor.
So what happened when the hostess returned? Â She told us that the manager wouldn't let us have a table! Â She said we could stand at the bar, but she wouldn't let our EIGHT friends sit down and rest their dogs. Â The place was quiet! Â We were quiet! Â Stunned, I sent the hostess back for confirmation, and she returned with the same news.
We had money to spend, and a nice attitude, and Morgan Street Brewery just felt like being a douche with a liquor license.
So we did the only logical thing. Â Took a piss in their bathrooms, and went down the street to a MUCH NICER Old Spaghetti Factory where they were cordial, accommodating, prompt, and affordable.
To sum up. Â Morgan Street may look nice, and have some good qualities, but in my book, they suck like a kid with asthma in an triathlon.
And Morgan Street, if you want to check your logs and find out what manager was working: 3/28/09 around 3pm.
I have experienced every aspect of Morgan Street and I think this place does well in all areas. Â By that I mean, I have eaten here like it was a regular restaurant, and the food and beer was very good. Â I have hung out and played some darts and pool upstairs, and that was fun. Â I have sat and had conversations with foreign girls in the courtyard. Â I have danced (awkwardly) in the "club" section, and even that was ok.
So as you can see, Morgan Street is everything and then some. Â There just aren't many places you can stay at for 5+ hours and do all sorts of different activities. Â I have always preferred it here to other places on the landing due to the, umm, higher quality of the patrons here. Â The dance club can sometimes be pretty sleazy, but it's great that you can still hang out in the courtyard, or the other building and avoid the club part all together. Â
Oh and I did mention they brew their own beer right? Â It's not the greatest thing in the world, but the honey wheat is pretty good. Â Although if you order a bud light you are punished by being forced to pay 6 bucks for a 2 liter that you will awkwardly carry with you for the next hour and a half. Â I think it's a deserved though. Â I think their are better spots to hang out in St. Louis than the landing, but if I am coming here than Morgan Street is always a good choice.
I've only had the opportunity to experience Morgan Street as a brewpub (I guess I can call it that), not as the late night Dance Party USA.
The beer is decent, but it isn't close to the level of other places, such as Schlafly's. But it beats the normal mass domestic offerings.
As for food, had appetizers of the pretzels (fine) and the beef tenderloin bruchetta. The bruchetta was fascinating. I thought it was pretty decent (did I mention that I was really hungry?) but my wife thought it was an abomination.
For the entree, I went with the Brew Burger (burger with goat cheese and caramelized onions). Â The combination of heaping portions of cheese and onions and my mistake of ordering this medium rare resulted in the burger losing its structural integrity. Â I ended up having to use my fork to eat the rest of it. (OK, that last part is a lie, I should have used my fork, but much to my wife's horror, I just scooped up globs of burger bits, cheese, and onions and eat them. I'm a Neanderthal that was raised by wolves).
My wife had the chicken sandwich (with bacon and caramelized onions). It fell into the "decent" category. And at least the chicken didn't go supernova on her.
The last point, as mentioned in other reviews, is that instead of fries, you get these fried mashed potato bites. In theory, these should be awesome, but after eating several of them, one gets the sensation of having had just ingested a tube of caulk. Or a can of Play-Doh. I think if they were really crispy and a bit smaller, they would be way better.
Finally, service. Â When we arrived, it was empty and there were six employees standing around up front. Â Walking in, you almost got the sense they were telepathically playing "Not It!" and trying to psychically guide the hostess to a section that was not theirs. Â Our server was fine, but with pretty much nobody else there, she could have been just a wee bit more attentive (i.e., when my beer has been empty for 10 minutes, maybe it is time to stop talking to the bartender about your social life)
If you are in St. Louis, and you are drinking that swill they call Budweiser, or anything in general from Anheisser Busch, well, you know nothing about good beer. Morgan Stree Brewery is a nice little micro-brewery down in Laclede's Landing.
The hotel I'm staying at this week is giving out coupons for a free beer from Morgan Street, so being a lover of all things barley, hops and water I made the short jaunt down the street to Morgan Street. It was pretty empty, then again the Cards and the Blues play tonight so that would attribute to that. Being smart I decided NOT to ask them to put on the Red Wings game for me. With the Blues about to get swept, and the Wings handling business as usual I decided NOT to make St. Louis fans jealous.
So, on to the real business after getting sidetracked as usual. I ordered two pints (one at a time) of the Steam Lager and the bacon wrapped meatloaf.
First things first, beer. A nice hoppy beer. Not as hopped as a Boston Lager would be, but a great balance you would come to expect from a nicely brewed craft beer.
Food, food was great. Bacon makes everything better, and while the meatloaf could stand on its own, I'm all for the obligatory adding of bacon to food products. Lots of people would criticize meatloaf, but this was really good. It came with a side of home fries, grilled tomatoes and had a nice sauce with it.
With more trips in the future for me Morgan Street Brewery is most likely a place I'll have to visit every trip. I definitely recommend stopping by if you get the chance, you won't be disappointed.
3 of us went to Morgan Street Brewery at 6:30pm on Sunday evening for beer, dinner, and watching the Blues Playoff game. Â When we got there, there may have been 1-2 other tables, but otherwise, the place was empty (the weather was also dreary, which I think sometimes keeps people out of Laclede's Landing). Â Our server, Nancy, Â was very attentive and friendly and gave us just the right amount of space.
We started out with drinks, two of us getting the beer sampler (a 5-oz sample of each of the 5 beers they have on tap), and one of us getting a 24 oz Krysal draft. Â The beer was very good, and I can see myself defintely coming back for a happy hour. Â
We started with the tenderloin bruschetta...which is self explanatory. Â Lots of garlic, tomatoes, plus tenderloin on crostini. Â A pretty good appetizer. Â Then, my sister and I split a caesar salad and the seasoned beef sandwich (similar to a French Dip). Â The caesar salad was WAY overdressed, becoming soggy after a few minutes. Â On the other hand, the beef sandwich was good...the bread just the right amount of crusty and the meat nicely seasoned. Â My husband had the BBQ chicken pizza, which he seemed to enjoy.
Prices and beer were great, and I think I'd head back for drinks (but possibly not a full dinner) again.
Last night after a long day of chores I (along with two others) decided to go to Morgan Street Brewery for an early dinner. Â The place was pretty empty so we had our choice of seats.
The staff was very helpful offering to change the channel on the TV to the game that we wanted to watch and also being attentive without being overbearing.
The beer was great - I had the sampler and the Honey Wheat was hands down my favorite though the other beers were quite good as well. Â SInce Morgan Street rotates it's 5 taps I'll defintley be back to try another sampler again.
For the most part the food was good with the only miss of the night being the salad which was overdressed. Â The other items (a starter, a sandwich, and a pizza were all very good.)
Defintely stop by this place if you are looking for a relaxing change of pace!
So I was in town doing the tourist thing on a beautiful sunny spring day. Lunch at Laclede's Landing, followed by a trip to the top of the Gateway Arch.
My nephew (O'Fallon resident) suggested a few restaurants, I selected the Morgan Street Brewery based on Yelp reviews and we were off...
First thing, the beer. Their Honey Wheat Lager was fantastic. Blond, unfiltered with a great taste. There are many other choices here for various tastes. I usually go with something darker, but the Honey Wheat just seemed perfect on a hot day...
Well truth be told, it wasn't exactly a hot day, as the high for the day being only 70 degrees. You just gotta understand that I'm from Michigan and we haven't seen 70 degrees or the Sun in 5 months, so it felt like summer to me.
Lunch was a cup if a tangy Chili followed by the Maryland Blue Crab Cake Sandwich. Baked crab cake on a toasted corn flour bun with Havarti dill cheese. One word applies... Outstanding!!!
I'm not sure what they call their potato side dish. They were mashed potato balls breaded and deep fried. Unique and tasty.
This is my second trip to Laclede's Landing, First time was to Hannegan's next door. Hannegan's was nice, but kinda unremarkable.
Morgan Street Brewery ROCKS!
On any given day if you asked me to rate Morgan Street (or most of the bars on the Landing), I would laugh in your face. Â I think when I first became the legal drinking age, I could have never imagined loving ANYTHING MORE than to be groped by some asshole wearing a frat-hat and being in a bar where the number of minutes you have to wait for a bartender to look at you has a negative correlation with your cupsize. Â But now...not so much.
BUT. Â To be honest, on some nights, you'll be in a better mood and be willing to put up with some of the bullsh*t to have one real, true, FUN night out with the girls. Â And that finally happened for me at Morgan Street of all places.
I think I enjoyed it a bit more because we secured ourselves a table upstairs and were able to converse with each other and have hysterical conversations with drunks of all ages. Â Not to mention, beer ONLY comes in monsterous sizes. Â Everyone's a winner.
Seriously, not a bad time.
I didn't eat there that night, but I have before and I freaking LOVE their fried chicken salad. Â I mean, it's not good for you...AT ALL, but it's so good and fresh and they make their own ranch dressing. Â Delish. Â But so's the beer, so there you go.
Not a bad place to go for a fun Friday or Saturday night out with a group of friends. Its got something for everyone, restaurant, game room, patio, and a club section. Plus I don't mind the in house brews either!
It can be a bit on the pricy side for drinks, but there really isn't a "cheap" place to drink on the landing. I only give it 4 stars because I have never been there on a weekend where it isn't absolutely crazy. Its a great place to go but most of the time its just so jam packed with frat boys its hard to even get around. And good luck going with a group of girls without having to have to fend at least one creepy frat guy off of them.
Also the service could be better. I've had quite a few times where I order something and they bring me something else. Also the staff isn't very personable. I know its hard to be in a setting like that but most of the time I feel like its a hassle for them to get your drink.
So the service can be sub par, the place is usually packed. But, its always a good time at least for a couple of hours. There are plenty of other places on the landing you can migrate too afterward. I would say its almost the ideal place to start off your night on the landing. Because it does truly have something for everyone to enjoy.
