This place has a really great location right by McCarren Park and the Nassau Ave. station, but I really wasn't impressed. I know it's the middle of the summer, but it just seemed kind of divey in a bad way. The music is regularly too loud and it kind of feels like the whole place might collapse in on itself one day. The beer selection isn't very good (for Brooklyn; in Manhattan it would be above average) and the bartender steered me away from the drafts because apparently they were going flat with the heat. With the many good bars in the area, I don't think there's much point in going here.

It's been a while since I've visited Nights and Weekends, but I think it says something that I live right in the neighborhood and haven't been compelled to try it again.  I was so psyched to go initially after reading several great reviews and we were finally able to get a table without a long wait on a weeknight.  I had the Mi Corazon cocktail to begin which sounded fantastic, but was disappointing- the spiciness of the pepper infusion completely overwhelmed the creamy, sweetness of the coconut milk.  For food we had the homemade cheese bread, which we were hoping would be a tasty version of pao de queijo, but did not meet expectations (go to Beco for the real deal!).  We also had the plantain chips (very small portion and not too exciting) and the Choripan (my Argentinian dining partner declared this undeserving of the name).  Overall, everything was just subpar- maybe my expectations were too high based on reviews.  But also, the most mentioned item in Yelp reviews is avocado toast??  Let's consider the ingredients...avocado, toast.  Is there any way that could not be delicious?
I see that they have changed their menu since I was there last and I'm willing to give Nights and Weekends another shot, hopefully with more satisfactory results.

This place is pretty awesome. The design of the bar (being in a triangular (scalene?) shaped building) is really cool - I especially like the DJ window.  The menu is pretty solid (shishito peppers & fish tacos are favorites) and the staff/bartenders are attentive and efficient.

If I lived any closer, I'd be here on a daily basis I think.

Walking around Greenpoint after dinner and not quite ready to go home...What's to do other than stopping at a place called Nights and Weekends. I mean, that's what's it for isn't...by name alone?

Thus you encounter one of the city's famous "squares" that are necessarily squares. This one is at one of the five-point corners of Greenpoint and Williamsburg. An interesting location lends itself to an interesting building shape (think triangle). The place is nice and small, but there is lots of open air. It's small, but intimate and doesn't get too crowded or anything. There's seating and a bar and they serve a few tapas plates. There's three giant double doors that open onto a not too busy street (which is good) and windows on the opposite wall.

So, I didn't try any of the food, but the cocktails were definitely delicious. It's a great place to just chill with a few friends for a quieter night with some delicious drinks.

Despite coming here on what was both a night and a weekend, I still somehow feel like I caught Nights and Weekends on the wrong, well, weekend night.

I typically tolerate sub-par service. It isn't exactly an area I'm gonna stick it to a restaurant for. However, Nights and Weekends proved that if you shoot for laziness, you might just be able to pull off inconsideration and obliviousness while you're at it! And I'd be doing all you fine people a disservice if I were to keep my trap shut on such an experience.

We arrived as a party of four, and upon seeing two two-tops empty, were instructed by the bartender to move them together (mind you, they weren't exactly side-by-side) and then the waitress will come over. I'm not expecting white-gloved service here, but I feel like picking up tables is part of the staff responsibility. Also, the waitress never came over. At least not on her own. We sat there laser-eyeing the shit out of her for what seemed like far too long before the bravest and perhaps hungriest member of our bunch basically dragged her away from behind the bar just so we could get a look at some menus. She failed to mention any of the specials and the ladies we were with had to inquire about the Frozen Watermelon Margaritas (the cocktail of the day) everyone else at the establishment seemed to be enjoying. When our food ultimately came out, three dishes were ready at the same time, while mine was still being constructed in the kitchen. That's fine - I can't harp on this for being abnormal or rude or anything. However, a "yours will be out shortly" would've been nice and I got nothing of the sort. The whole time with our waitress, I got the sense she was the type of girl who never opens her mouth unless someone were to directly ask her a question. Call me crazy, but that sounds like a role reversal of the whole customer-server dynamic.

Anyway, onto the food. I ordered the Croque Señora ($14) after learning they were out of half of everything (including the Fish Tacos, Wild Caught Crispy Rock Shrimp, and Shishito Peppers, all of which I had my eye on). A sandwich with two types of pork (roasted shoulder, tasso ham), two types of cheese (mortadella, gruyere), and a spicy pickle, my pick was essentially the deranged bastard child of a Cubano and Croque Monsieur. Also, it was topped with a fried egg - literally, on the outside of the brioche bun. How are you supposed to eat that with your hands? You know, like a sandwich is supposed to be eaten? Anyway, despite its fabulous smell, the taste was decidedly far from fabulous. Overall, the thing was a giant mess. I could only make it through half before giving up. This is unheard of. I always finish a sandwich.

I even tried to warm it up the next day in my toaster and give it a second chance (yes, I almost always take food home if I don't finish it). The cheap-ass ham started burning and spewing smoke everywhere. Then, after taking necessary precautions to prevent a fire in my apartment, the lamp just went lights out on me. I swear, I've never had a reaction like that to anything in my toaster before. This sandwich is a mutant. And reheated it still tasted like shit.

So, why even humor Nights and Weekends with two stars? Well, I was honestly the only person in my party who seemed to truly dislike my meal (the service, however, was unanimously shitty and we all agreed to tip accordingly). It was also recommended to me by folks in the area whose opinion I value and trust. The Mexican roadhouse decor, open-air summer vibe, and peninsula property is unique and gritty and even charming to a point. The aforementioned margaritas got high marks from the ladies. With a different server and a different meal, this could be a very different review, so I'd like to give them the benefit of the doubt. Somewhat.

Plus, maybe Nights and Weekends is one of those ironic places and it's actually best experienced on a weekday while the sun is shining and the name is there to just totally throw off uncool people like myself. Doubtful. But by this spot's standards, I'm likely still uncool. Womp.

Delicious!  N&W is a small space, but they were able to accommodate our group of 7 with no wait on a Sunday.

Their Avocado Toast (seven grain bread, crushed avocado, olive oil and chili) was a surprising winner.  Made on hearty bread, with some nice spice, it was surprisingly flavorful and filling.

The (very sweet) waitress brought us out a complimentary plate of the fish tacos (crispy mahi with mango-habanero salsa and caper aoli).  This is my friends "favorite meal in the entire world".  The mahi was in fact crispy, and the entire dish flavorful.

For my main course I ordered the Choripan (Chorizo sliders with Chimichurri and red onion, served on house-made cheese bread). It had bright bright flavors that really packed a punch.  The acid really cut through some of the heaviness of the dish. I found the accompanying plantain chips a bit bland and lacking seasoning, but they were more neutral than bad.

One negative, and some may offend some more than others, one of the ladies in our party found a hair in her sandwich.  The staff was very embarrassed and apologetic, and in addition to the sandwich being comped, they gave her a drink for free as well.  They offered a new sandwich, but she had already made a good dent and was full.

The wait staff is incredibly nice and helpful.

this place is a little small but the service is great and the food is pretty good...

can get packed on weekends but we had "brunch" around 2 and got a table for 7 right away... the servers go out of their way to make sure u are comfortable-- there was a little mishap with my order so they comped 2 of my drinks and brought a round of shots for us all-- particularly for ma boo, the bachelorette-- all was forgiven and forgotten...

    fun lil spot.

Love this place for brunch or a afternoon drink at the bar. Great bloodies, great fish tacos, what more do you need? Also relatively inexpensive so that's a plus. In the summer they open the windows so it's airy and fresh. Pretty high on the hipster scale of tattoos and facial hair, just an fyi.

Went there for Brunch on a sunday.
It gets pretty busy but cleared out after 2pm.
    Nice service

Had several delicious bloody mary with those giant capers i love, before eating the pork sandwich. Sandwich was not too big, tasty with some sort of toasted brioche. yum. We also tried some guac tartine and other good stuff. I will go back.

Have been dying to try this place. I walk past it all the time, it always seems to be hopping, and I love Caribbean food so perfect pair? Went in on a Sunday night around 8 for a dinner with a friend. We decided to split 2 dishes and have a cocktail each. I went for the Margarita of the Day (Watermelon), which was light and refreshing. She had Mi Corazon, which was like a spicy pina colada, totally delicious.

We ordered the ceviches special which was a Thai Shrimp Ceviche, and the Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos. But when we found out they were out of fish tacos, we changed our order to Mariquitas Pie, which was described to us as Caribbean Nachos... After the waitress took our order, she came back to tell us they were out of the Mariquitas Pie. Now, feeling a little disappointed that we could not get to eat the menu items we wanted the most, we ordered the Choripan (Chorizo Sliders).

When our first dish came out, we realized that the 2 menu items we ordered would not be enough food to fill us up, so we also ordered the small plates of Broccolini and Shishito Peppers.

The Ceviche was good, but very lacking on portion side. They also did not provide us with enough fried plantains for dipping. Luckily, we got more plantains with the sliders. The sliders were good, but a little lacking in flavor, smother them with the hot sauce on the table and you'll be okay.

Now, the Shishito Peppers and the Broccolini were easily the highlights of this meal. The sauce that came on the Broccolini was a tangy garlic chili sauce, and delicious was an understatement. The peppers were good, but I found myself soaking up the Broccolini sauce with the peppers for added flavor.

The atmosphere for a Sunday night dinner was WAY too loud for our tastes. We get that it's a bar, and a nighttime hot spot, but it seemed a little early for the hip hop to be blasting.

I would love to come back and try this place say during a Sunday brunch, when they are guaranteed to have the menu items we were ordering.

Everything I ate was impressive enough, but I wanted more.

Go if just for the cocktails.

I went here a few weeks back with a friend of mine when we were waiting for a table at a very crowded restaurant a few blocks away, and was almost convinced to stay and eat the plethora of tapas that looked and smelled delicious.

I was in the mood for a spicy drink and the waitress (Ashley) made a B-Line for the bar tender and he gave me a few choices- I let her know I was not too picky just something spicy and delicious to tame my hunger. It did not disappoint. I now understand the term "mixologist" although I prefer to just call him a "spirits chemist". IT was amazing- the flavors and spices were perfect! And because I ranted and raved about it so much the bar tender sent over another round on the house!

It was a great atmosphere- and I will definitely be back soon.

    Two words.
    Queso. Fundito.
It's been nearly a week since I ate here and I'm still thinking about it.
Three hearty corn cakes served with melted goat cheese, honey and little red peppers on a smallish, rectangular skillet.  Don't let the serving size fool you, this dish is rich and comforting, the perfect remedy after a long night of drinking

Other notable things: the banana crema inglas that comes with the French toast was insane. I tried "The Sun Also Rises" cocktail and its light flavors complemented my meal well. My friends and I shared the frozen raspberry margarita, pretty strong (not that I'm complaining). However, the cinnamon toast was pretty underwhelming.

We might've just been lucky, but we didn't wait at all, even on a Sunday at 12:30 pm. Our server was quite attentive, despite how busy she was, and the food came out lightning fast. And I don't feel like I get to say this enough, the music was perfect, all the old-time country made it feel homey.

I've only been once, Sunday night around 9:30 pm. The ceilings are 30 feet tall, the walls painted a dirty silver, nice moody lighting, every table was occupied by couples mostly. A lady ,who happened to also be our waitress, told us casually, sit wherever you want. We took an open table and ordered shortly after.

A goat cheese fundito (large plate) which was served in a small rectangular skillet with sweet /spicy red roasted peppers on top and 3 small corn cakes on the side. And also the roasted pepper small plate, which to me were like miniature green bell peppers (not spicy, but slightly bitter) with olive oil, sea salt and thinly sliced kumquat.

The food was all very flavorful. Even the dessert was unique -- a chocolate cake served in a glass, layered with a tangy-lemony meringue and cacao-dusted hazelnuts.

We ordered 2 different cocktails each. I liked how every single cocktail is $10. While other places range from $9-$13 per cocktail, this place is $10 flat which made me feel like I had more options, and I felt inclined to order another. I really liked "Mi Corazon" and "Pancho y Lefty."

I can't wait to try this place for brunch. Will update.

Cool for the sake of being cool. I'd like to round out my review after a proper "bar" experience as I feel it would be more positive.

    The Good:
The food was generally delicious. A damn tasty array of brunch options, appropriate portion sizes and well-priced. The "Choripan" (spicy sausage sliders on homemade cheesy bread) was incredibly delectable, as were the "baked egg" dishes.

The place also has the visual aesthetic down. Great interior design and enough space to not feel claustrophobic.

    The Not-So-Good:
I arrived around noon on a Sunday with a party of 5. We were told it could be "under 10 minutes" to get a table. No problem at all, I'm well aware of the "brunch crunch".

We were seated 30 minutes later.

Then, after finally ordering, the food may have been another 45 minutes. To our server's credit, we were given an apology and a basket of warm bread to tide us over.

"It's a kitchen problem" we were told.

As mentioned above, I'd like to return, but I think I'll go for the drinks - It can't take an hour to get served, can it?

How can Nights and Weekends be in the 5 Leaves family, and right across the street, and yet so, so far away from the wonder of 5 Leaves? Quick drinks while waiting are decent, though finding a seat to sip in is nearly impossible. Brunch= disgusting. I went with two friends, we all ordered different dishes, and all disliked all of them. Everything was dry and bland. It's like they get 5 Leaves table scraps...

My wife and I were looked for good brunch and first tried Five Leaves.  The wait was 40 minutes, so we figured we'd try Nights and Weekends.  The staff was very friendly and the decor is appropriately rustic for an old, uniquely shaped space.  I got the French Toast, which was created from a baguette.  It was a nice combination of juicy and crunchy.   The banana crema inglesa was made it creamy rather than the usually overly sweet french toast.  The only issue was in eating the macadamia nuts.  They were left whole, but it probably would have been better chopped.

My wife got the Egg Skillet with Yuca and Smoked Trout.  Everything on the plate was cooked perfectly and was a good balance of savory and spicy.

They played some reggae, which was nice for a sunny morning, despite it being winter.

Overall, it's a tasty alternative to Fives Leaves.  Though, I haven't tried it yet.

We hit up this place after Berry Park, before continuing on to my all time favorite, Manhattan Inn.  This place gives such a good first impression with it's industrial yet intimate interior, but then you try the drinks.  And they are TERRIBLE.  First the bartender made me a spicy mescal original that was so spicy I continued even take a second sip.  I then tried to return to beer only to find that the beers on tap were pretty bad too.  Sadness... I won't be coming back here.

Definitely a great place for brunch.

Their homemade cheesy bread with salted guava butter was delicious.  The bread was light and fluffy, paired with the guava butter it was phenomenal.

I order their skillet baked eggs with chorizo, peppers and potato.  OMG, it was the best brunch plate I ever had!  I love chorizo and I guess since it was baked it wasn't too oily like other chorizo dishes that I had.

Only waited 5 mins for a party of 3 on a Saturday around 1:00PM.  Was supposed to go to Five Leaves across the street but the wait was 40 mins long and the host recommended to go here since the wait was shorter.

I'd give this 5 stars, here are the reasons why I took off 2 stars:

-1 ~ waited for 30 mins for our entrees to come, waitress was apologetic but still, we were so hungry!

-1 ~ not sure who he was, he came to our table and apologized for the long wait for the food, he said our first round of drinks were on him, guess what?  We were still charged for them!

Jen stumbled into my restaurant the other night.

    Got her some whiskey.

And a cornucopia of shitty frozen drinks.

Follow that up, and she brings me bottles of rose.

    And cheese bread.

And chorizo sliders on cheese bread.

    And her hot body.

    Of course.

When the wait for Five Leave over the street is out to 2-hours, head across to Nights and Weekends for a decent alternative. Their range of baked eggs are good, but the stand-out is clearly the avocado on toast. The affordable prices mean that you can easily get both if you come armed with an appetite.

The only downside is that there is no espresso, but they did allow us to grab coffees from Five Leaves and drink them at the table.

Mmmmm... The owner is totally weird but kinda hot in a gross way.

    No a hot way.

    No, gross.

    I dunno!!!!

Prefer to come here on weekdays for a cocktail or two, or for brunch to get waaaaasted. AA here I come.

    Not! Or... maybe?

For brunch - the avocado toast is great - with a little drizzle of maple syrup and salt. That's my suggestion to spruce up the flavor a bit.

I think the corn nuts should be free - that would up the charm a gazillion.

I love the space, such an odd corner, and the hanging plants, the jewel toned colored bottles of water and moss hued walls... incompletes my sentence.

Months ago Matt and I got the French toast, and I subsequently got schwilled on a few too many 'slushie del dia' - watermelon that day.

At night, there's this cocktail made from coconut milk with a habenero pepper in it and it is AMAZING.

I don't like it here when it's crowded like on a weekend night - too B&T.

Okay so first of all...I live in Harlem. I randomly ended up in Greenpoint this past weekend and through some sort of divine intervention ended up at this heavenly bar/ restaurant. The aesthetic of Nights and Weekends is inspired and relaxing. Every detail is artistically finished in the best way possible. I didn't want to leave.

The bar is visually outstanding and my drink ( a mango Bellini I think )  was above average. As if setting the perfect ambiance wasn't enough - often enough for me - the brunch was the best meal I have had in the last several months. This was a huge surprise for a brunch spot my friends and I so happened to pass by.

There is seating outside through a window and room to eat at the bar if your dining solo.

Now the food - My duck con fit wasn't afraid to be flavorful! since it was super rich...the portion size is perfect. My friend's fish tacos were just the right amount of crunch and absolutely delicious. Every bite was enjoyable. I want to go back and try everything since they obviously know what they are doing here.

The service was attentive and helpful. All this is to say, even though this place is a billion miles away...you can bet I'll be back. Loved it! Kudos to the owners and chefs on an awesome vision come to life!

Goodness, it was hot like a sauna in here...and just the way I like it.

The whole time I was here, my shirt felt a slight bit damp and when it gets this hot, the only thing to do is to down a nice cold one.

I asked for a Negroni ($10), yea, I was in the mood for something strong. But, to my dismay, they made the drink for a flimsy girl. That sure as heck aint me.

Nice views of the street, with a part of the bar looking out into the street and with some pull-up stools on the outside so that the ones sitting outside could mingle (or ogle) those inside sitting at the bar. Gosh, a perfect way to pick up a date.

This is the best part of the evening. Get this. I stumbled out a bit inebriated and walked into the Nassau Ave G stop ready to go home. I fumble around inside my tote and gasp! No cell phone to be found! I made a mad dash back into the bar. This is about 10 minutes later and guess what? My cell phone was just sitting on the counter, waiting for me to rescue it. By golly, Brooklyn has some honest hipsters! Now, that I really like!

I went the other day during prime Brunch time and I was sat immediately and the service was quick, but not too quick... Aussies, cocktails, fatty brunch, not a long wait in the burg? SOLD SOLD SOLD...I'll preface this review with saying i was like the rest of these lemmings and discovered N&W by a failed brunch attempt at 5 Leaves, oh Heath you'll forever be in our hearts. However, what a lovely blessing in disguise,

First thing first, same chef as 5 Leaves, Cash only, minimal wait Horseradish infused tequila bloody Mary. Now that we have that out of the way don't be alarmed by the small bloody- what it lacks in size it makes up for in sheer tastiness and kick. It's 10 dollars, be warned you shouldn't be knocking these back unless you're prepared for the bill.

We started with the corn fritters with an avocado and honey dipping sauce. 7 bucks and amazing! The chicken skins were also had, but didn't do it for me, I say skip.

On to the main course, being the high roller i am i went for the most expensive and outrageous piece on the menu. The croque señora aka THAT JUST HAPPENED....pork shoulder, speck, pickles, gruyere and smothered in oil on brioche bun...It was melt in your mouth, break apart at the touch good, but pretty heavy so may want to split it and order a salad to split! Also, dined on was the salad with chorizo which got two thumbs up. The mexican duck was devoured as well, i don't know what it's really called on the menu but basically its duck eggs with mexican beans and rice and duck confit-WHICH the crowd went wild for.

All and all I have to say the waitstaff was lovely, the manager owner was very welcoming, we barely waited at 1pm on a sat, the food was AMAZING and well priced...just make sure you have cash you can thank me later!

Had dinner for two here and it was surprisingly filling, cozy and homey. Maybe Monday nights are the night to come. We've been after Summerscreen and it was a bit too busy. It wasn't overcrowded and we were able to sample specials. The chicken soup was savory, pungent and warming (though too expensive at a small portion for $13 I believe), and the pork tamales were a really decent portion for $7 (though the pork could have been more flavorful and the tamales spicier, or perhaps more of the spicy sauce given). The wine I had was lackluster, and made me wonder if it was the wine or whether it needed decanting.

As an FYI to the chefs, the shishito peppers are spicily good, but are perhaps too spicy. I'd suggest serving them with some carbs, like bread, to help drown out the spice, or finding something less spicy for an appetizer. A whole bowl of them will set your mouth on fire.

I'd also increase the size of the yummy herbed rice you serve with the soup.

The server was very nice but wasn't often around and couldn't be seen anywhere in the tiny restaurant -- was she running across the street to 5 Leaves to grab something? Overall, she was really nice and accommodating, but it would've been great to have more attentive service. We liked her so we left over 20%. Seems like she was the only one in there so she was probably pressed. Maybe consider giving her a mate to split the duties with?

The atmosphere makes me pretty happy. I like the Latin music they play and the dark cozy interior and the laidbackness of the spot on a Monday evening.

I'm a huge fan of Five Leaves so I was anxious to try Nights and Weekends to see how it compared. As soon as you step through the door (which is actually a bit confusing...) you can tell the space is related to Five Leaves with a well stocked minimally designed bar towards the back wall. The lighting is very dark and there are plenty of windows and doors kept open to give the space a little air.

A friend and I met here for dinner last evening and decided to share a few small plates and glasses of wine. The menu leans much more South American than Caribbean, but none-the less seemed creative. The mariquitas pie (almost like a cuban/south american plate of nachos) was excellent. Everyone else's food looked really good as well, and my overall summary is that Nights and Weekends is a great spot to get a unique cocktail, decent glass of wine, and a few causal small plates. If you're looking for a rather substantial dinner, you might not be as impressed.

Brunch here is amazing too...try the baked eggs with the plantains, black beans, and guacamole. The avocado toast is also really good; generously slathered with creamy avocados and sprinkled with crushed red pepper and drizzled with olive oil; it's refreshing and delicious.

A really good looking tattoo covered chick was bartending, so I took my time ordering.  It was that time of the evening, so I was buying.  She smiled at me as she made my cocktail, a Improved Malecon Old Fashioned which definitely did the trick for me.  I like when they use a little orange rind and rub it on the rim of the glass.

Behind the bar there are these glass windows that open up like shutters onto Nassau.  On a night like this, it's a great view.

We sat over by the window, facing onto Bedford.  There was a low budget indie movie crew filming a marching band scene.  I think it was the hungry marching band, I've seen them perform at Rubulad before.  It's amazing how many takes they did, probably close to ten, and each time they came down the street, the marchers acted as excited as the first time.  Funny.
