I've been here lots now because my girlfriend can't get enough of their crab ravioli. which I admit is very very tasty. This particular location right on Meridian is super awesome. The building is super unique and the layout is huge inside. I'm guessing it seats 300 at least. there's a trolley with booths also! The meals i've had here have never really wowed me. my top two are of course the crab ravioli and Garlic Mizithra. which is Spaghetti and Mizithra Cheese & Browned Butter tossed with garlic, bacon and topped with sautéed mushrooms. It is tasty buttery cheesy goodness.
the bad:
restrooms are located in the basement, and every time i've gone down there I feel like i'm going to get mugged and or taken advantage of. and i'm 6'3!
food has never really wowed me before it's your typical olive garden or bravo fare that is okay but you can tell it was mostly just heated up prepackaged food.
bottom line:
you go here cause you are  familiar with the menu and you know what you want plus it's conveniently located to larger venues and you can get seated and get your food fast and hassle free
My overall experience here was very good. Â Our server was very nice and responsive. Â I liked the layout and design of the place. Â We sat at a booth, which gave us a decent amount of privacy, which I prefer. Â I'm not usually a fan of sitting so close to people where I can't help but overhear conversations. Â The one problem is finding the bathrooms...its on the other side of the place and down a couple flights of stairs - more odd than anything.
The food was good, but not mind blowing. Â I had the garlic shrimp fettuccine and the portion was pretty big. Â They gave us some complimentary bread and butter...not the greatest. Â They also offer a complimentary dessert after dinner, which I thought was generous. Â I know this place is a chain, but not all chains are bad and I'd put the OSF has one of the better chains I've been to.
It looks like a very classy place, but once you get seated you will realize that most people are dressed casually. The service was quick and the food was very good. I would recommend giving this place a try if you want some very tasty Italian food. They have the classics like spaghetti and alfredo, Â but they also have some very delicious dishes that are much less Americanized.
Review Source:I have been going to these since I was little. Same menu at every locations and the atmosphere looks the same. I enjoy their food and drinks. Honestly, some of their specialty drinks are pretty great. You can get a good buzz off of 1. Well, depending on your bartender I guess. I usually get the mizithra and brown butter dish, which is awesome. Their Caesar salad is huge for a side salad. I think they changed those, they use to be smaller and with tomatoes. Otherwise most things are the same as 20 years ago. So if you've been to one you've been to them all. If you haven't been I suggest you check it out at least once in your life. Good for dates, birthdays and different events. Kids seem to enjoy it as well.
Review Source:Great atmosphere, that's about the only good thing.  I loved the homey feel when I walked in, unfortunately I had an extremely rude waitress and the food was sub-par.  I was looking forward to the "complete meal" but that wasn't even fully explained to me and  I missed out on a free drink.  All in all, I will not be back.
Review Source:It's a neat restaurant since they give you a salad, bread and ice cream with your meal but all the food is typical chain-restaurant, not-very-fresh food.
We got their cheese garlic bread which was decent (comes with marinara sauce) and I got their potpourri spaghetti which is served with 4 different sauces (marinara, alfredo, meat and their butter cheese sauce). Â Their salad was just OK, lettuce with olives and croutons.
Was here a month or so ago for a conference, and my friends and I were looking for a decently priced meal within walking distance of our hotel (Union Station). The food was decent, the Mizithra cheese is especially good - but the salad was just ok. The ice cream was good though and I liked the decor considering its a chain, but I have had better food at similar places, so not sure if I'd make a return visit.
Review Source:For starters, free coffee, salad, and small ice cream with an entree is a unique concept and gets you a lot of food for your money. Â I chose the house ranch dressing, which surprisingly was the best I think I've ever had. Â I also sampled my wife's minestrone soup, and that was excellent.
On the other hand, my main dish, the Spaghetti Vesuvius, was only average. Â It was overly spicy but otherwise bland. Â I would not order it again. Â She had the Spinach Tortellini, and felt that it was of similar quality to something that she would get in the refrigerated section at the grocery store - definitely below average.
The meal overall was a good value for the money, and I would give the place a second chance by trying something different. Â It had a nice atmosphere, with lots of wood and old fashioned lighting. Â The service was also polite and speedy, rounding out a solid three stars in my book.
The Old Spaghetti Factory has a special little place in my heart, as it used to be my weekly Saturday lunch spot with my dad growing up. Â For years, we would go and I would order the Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, which came with a salad w/ blue cheese dressing, and also a spumoni ice cream for dessert. Â I used to think these were the best meals ever.
I hadn't been back in probably 15 years, and so I was super excited to see this Old Spaghetti Factory in downtown Indy when I was in town for a few weeks for work. Â Most of the dishes were about the same, but maybe it's cuz my palette has changed over the last 15 years, but unfortunately my meal here was not like how I remembered it to be.
For starters, the salad wasn't crisp at all...it was quite limp, and the blue cheese dressing was waterdown and not flavorful at all. Â The spaghetti with meat sauce was good, but I ordered the half and half with the Mizithra cheese, and that's the half I didn't enjoy. Â It was a bit dry, and the flavor was just bleh. Â However the spumoni ice cream was as good as ever. Â I like to wait until it softens up a bit, and then I just mix it all up together like I did when I was a kid. Â Perfect way to end the meal.
You can't beat the price here. Â Since all the entrees come with a salad and ice cream, I was able to get an entire dinner, plus a glass of wine, for $20. Â Not bad at all. Â Our server was awesome...cheerful and helpful. Â I may be back, but more to take a trip down memory lane than to look for a fantastic meal.
I've been thinking about eating here for days... The Mizithra (or Garlic Mizithra) dishes are really different, and amazingly tasty! I don't really even look at the menu- I go for this favorite.
Don't forget to try the Spumoni ice cream for dessert. It really is a great way to end the meal.
The Spaghetti Factory always sounds good when walking around downtown, and I've been there a couple of times. All but the first time the staff hasn't really been on the ball. The dark setting and sort of brothelly, cool ambience contrasts with the very chain-like experience otherwise. I do like the food and the comfy throne chairs!
You can expect quite the uninspired salad, above average pasta, and some awesome mizithra cheese. Do have it scattered on whatever you order. The Spaghetti Factory also knows how to use some good sausage.
A visit is suggested if you live in the area or are just in the mood for some pasta downtown. You'll walk away more satisfied than at the more overblown Italian places around.
I totally loved it! my first time in Indianapolis got even better when I got to be at this place. I am a fan of retro art and this place emulates it a 100%. right before we made our order (I am not really sure of what I ordered I think it was something with meatballs). The appetizer, garlic bread and butter, was unbelievable. I have never tried such tasty and delicious garlic bread. After 5 minutes we were out bread and the waitress was aking to bring one more basket. I keep a menu at home as a souvenir of my trip to Indi. I have no chance to be in Inidana so the only thing I keep is the menu and the good memories with my brazilian and American friends in such amazing place.
Review Source:Went here for the first time last night after the Motivational Conference downtown.
The inside has a very cool ambiance and charm and we were greeted by an incredibly friendly hostess who chatted us up, walked us to an area and let us pick where we wanted to sit.
The server was pretty peppy and the menu was pretty normal for an American Italian place. I order the baked lasagna and a house salad with the fat free french dressing.
She brought the bread out which was pretty decent, warm, great butter. The salad, if you want to call lettuce and a few sporadic croutons a salad, was relatively uneventful, think the lettuce might have been a bit old.
When they brought the lasagna out it looked nice and was warm, but it was the most bland lasagna I have ever tasted. After a few bites I knew I was not going to be able to stomach this sad excuse of lasagna. So, the server offered to bring me something else, so I opted for the Pasta with meat sauce figuring they couldn't screw that up too bad. Well think again, it was also just very bland, no real taste.
The Old Spaghetti Factory is incredibly charming and has a nifty feel to it, but when it comes down to the food which is what a restaurant should focus on, it just delivers a lackluster performance.
RRR: The restrooms are outside of the restaurant, in the basement of the building's lobby, so be wary of homeless folks, homicidal maniacs, and cockroaches who frequent them.
I went to this OSF when I was here with the FFA National Convention 2009. I'd never been here, so I didn't know what to quite expect. I think we went here on a Friday night, so it was extremely crowded. There was no waiting room seats available, and it was a 30-45 minute wait to even get into the dining area. Once we were in, everything went very smoothly. I'd say we had a group of about 10 people. My spaghetti (very big serving) was excellent! Delicious ice cream, bread, and salad. I'm a pretty picky eater, so I decided to just get a plain spaghetti, with meat/sauce, and a simple salad, and I was very satisfied with my meal. I was surprised with OSF in some ways, though. I never knew it had an "old-fashioned" feel, like an old Cracker Barrrel, to it. But, that's fine with me. I just didn't really know what to expect. I enjoyed my visit!
Review Source:I ordered the Mizithra Cheese & Browned Butter Spaghetti and Spaghetti with Marinara sauce (1/2 and 1/2 dish).
I thought that it was bland and boring. Â I expected better as the mizthra cheese was listed as a speciality. Â Maybe I just don't like mizithra cheese, Â but to me it was no better than plain spaghetti. Â My minestrone soup was no better than basic Campbells from a can. Â It tasted good, but it was greasy and not well presented. Â The spumoni is really good, however.
I think that the Old Spaghetti factory is cheap and you get a lot of food. Â However, I would rather make a great meal at home and save up to go somewhere less boring.
Stopped here after a Pacers game during a trip to Indy.
Wanted to sit near a TV to watch a game, so we were led to the bar area and had our pick of any table! Â Was nice to have the entire floor to ourselves. Â We literally had PERFECT service by the bartender. Â Everything was perfectly timed and brought out and he was very attentive and friendly. Â The food was average, I would say. Â I have been to better Italian places re the food, but liked the serving size here, and the bread was super yummy. Â The Minestrone was suprisingly veggie based which is awesome, and was really good soup. Â Prices were low here for an Italian place. Â I recommend eating here. Â One weird thing though, the restrooms are in the basement, and it was COLD walking down there!
Ye Old Spaghetti Factory! All you need to remember is that the price is cheap and it's all about quantity. If you can accept those two, then you won't be disappointed here. The menu is simple and you can add extra pasta for a cheap price. The food is alright but hey, sometimes I'm just not that picky. I get some bread, a soup or salad, my entree, followed by spumoni ice cream, that's a full meal right there.
I'm not a regular but from time to time, it's really not that bad there. Spaghetti and ketchup, call it what you may, I give the Old Spaghetti Factory more credit then it deserves. It's just a simple meal, don't walk in there asking for the fish of the day or how great the lamb chop is for the night.
The Old Spaghetti Factory can definitely accomodate huge parties and if your kids can't eat the food here, then you should just take them to White Castle down the street and look for Harold & Kumar.
Nothing exciting here. Â Prices are good, but too much of a family place for me. Â I don't dig the screaming little brat scene.
The sauces are average, the spaghetti is slightly overcooked, but the service is ok. Â I really can't say anything about this place, it's like writing a review for a McDonalds.
The waitresses are a mixed lot, some hot, mostly not.
It's a chain restaurant and the food is just that, no real heart and soul go into the food. The room is fun and has a lot to keep your mind off the food and that's a good thing. If you have never eaten real home made Italian food, then it's OK. My advice is start looking for a small family run place that is making food from their heart for you!
Remember to eat well and live well and please no chains!
The Old Spaghetti Factory is a unique dining experience. Â I have dined on board of the old boxcar that they have in the middle of the restaurant and it makes you meal feel special. Â The food is not gourmet and is priced as such, but it is satisfying and served with a smile. Â It is better to go during the week for dinner because the crowds are smaller than on the weekend. Â It is a great restaurant to take little ones for a neat treat.
Review Source:Mmmm. The Old Spaghetti Factory is nothing special, so don't go if you are looking for gourmet Italian. However, if you want an affordable, tasty meal downtown in a unique atmosphere, make OSF a priority! If you have a big group of out-of-towners, this place would be a good bet.
I love the decor at OSF. It feels really cozy with warm colors, and if you are lucky you will get to sit inside of the traincar or right next to it some of their plush Queen Anne's style chairs - those chairs are the best!
Tommy O is right - the Mizithra Cheese & Browned Butter Spaghetti is delish! I order the Italian Meatloaf and it comes with a nice portion of that on the side. The best thing about OSF is that every meal comes with your choice of iced tea or coffee, salad, bread and either spumoni or vanilla ice cream. Since the most expensive meal is around $13, this is a steal in downtown dining! If you go on a weekend though, be forewarned - you're going to wait for a long time during peak hours!
I love the location and atmosphere of the Old Spaghetti Factory - smack dab in the Wholesale District of downtown Indianapolis - in a very historic building. And for being downtown - the prices are very agreeable - especially for the amount of food you get. You will leave full, my friends. I love the cream sodas and the bread and garlic butter. One weekends this place can be packed - especially because it is a popular eatery for the many conference and event attendees who visit our city - so expect a line if you know some sort of event is going on downtown- AND they don't take reservations on the weekends - so don't try to throw a birthday party there either on the weekend - been there, tried that.
Review Source:I will never go there again. The taste is bland, the menu is boring....
I can have a much better spaghetti dish at home and buy myself an ice cream and Starbuck's coffee at a cheaper price. The only cool thing about this place is the interior. Other than that, this place should have improve their quality of spaghetti dishes and call themselves a spaghetti restaurant....
It has become painfully obvious that Kyle V and I just don't agree on indy restaurants. Â If you're going to be a food snob....indy is not the place bro.
OSF is what it is; good pasta served up en masse at a decent price. Â The indy location is pretty cool. Â So if you're looking for some decent pasta to feed your 20 kids downtown, OSF....and get yourself a cream soda biatch.
If you've been to one I think you've been to all. This is the only OSF location in Indiana. How lucky was I to grow up near this place? The food is really nothing to speak about. It is slightly a grade higher than the best high school cafeteria meal you've ever had. But I guess I was into high school cafeteria food.
I really like eating inside of the train car. The upstairs balcony bar is pretty awesome too.
