The Peanut is one of the biggest gems in Kansas City. I truly cannot order wings at another restaurant (I'm looking at you, Johnny's Tavern) without wondering why they aren't as big and perfectly spiced.
I love the 50th and Main location the most because it's got a divey/friendly feel that a lot of places lack, although we've had good luck at the Old Overland Park location as well. It's a great place to watch a baseball game and hang out with friends. Hell, my brother even had a small birthday get together here because the feel of the place is always positive.
The food here will help you pack on pounds in a hurry, so plan your workouts accordingly.
I've been dying to try the Peanut out for years. Heard they have the best wings in town. For whatever reason, I've never made it there despite living only a few locks from their downtown locale.
One day we drove by the midtown one, their original location, and decided to stop in. I was determined to try their wings. Hubby opted for some chili. We both got cold beers.
The wings are good but not mind blowingly awesome. I could see how people say their the best in the city, sadly. The wings are quite big and have that nice fried crispy texture to them that proper buffalo wings should have. It had a nice pepper coating too, which was unusual but I liked it. The area where it fell short was the sauce. It was not made quite right and there just wasn't enough of it. Proper buffalo wings should have sauce glued to it and then be quite extra saucy. What can I say? Two years of living in Upstate NY has made me a buffalo wing snob.
Staff at this location was fine. Overall it's a nice neighborhood dive to grab a drink but not someplace really worth driving out of the way to visit.
