I ate here on the suggestion of a cab driver in Chicago. We started talking about food and this was his favorite restaurant. My wife and I are no strangers to Devon, we used to live a block away. We have had our share of Pak food over the years but our favorite place is long gone.

For starters, we ordered vegetable pakora. Not good, it was overly fried in oil that had probably seen better days. It was served with a milky mint sauce and some other sauce we weren't able to distinguish, but it was not a chutney in spite of its color and texture. I found the pakora pretty disgusting as did my wife.

Drinks, mango lassi. Really good, but it's hard to screw up a mango-yogurt shake with sugar. You can't order alcohol at this restaurant and BYO is not allowed.

For entrees we ordered frontier chicken and palak paneer, along with some naan and rice. I will say they make their food spicy and it has a lot of flavor, pretty well done. I was sweating half way in and that normally doesn't happen unless the food is volcanic. I liked it.

The frontier chicken was cooked very well and highly seasoned, best part of the meal. The naan and rice were also very good.

One thing I hadn't expected was the oil bath the palak paneer came in. I'll post a picture. It was basically a bowl filled with oil, and a little spinach and paneer thrown in. It was not easy on the eyes. A slotted spoon would've been nice. The flavor was good but bathed in oil as it was, I just think it was kind of gross.

Why 3 stars? Well, the food was pretty good all things aside. The decor was decent. The service was attentive. I think I enjoyed the food sweat on a cold evening. Would I eat here again? I'll let you know after I try the leftovers tomorrow. Probably. No. Well maybe.

My cousin, his wife, and 2 kids were at this place last weekend. We ordered matar paneer, chicket bothi (or was it bothi chicken?), mutton biriyani, vegatable samosas, chai, and something else which I don't really remember.

The biriyani wasn't great at all.  It didn't have saffron in it, which is reasonable, since saffron is very expensive.  Moreover, there was very little goat meat in the mutton biriyani.  I don't think that there was any raisins in it as well.

    The chai wasn't great.

The matar paneer - I think - had some sugar in it.

The chicken botha was simply put - cheap tasting.  It tasted like it was cooked with chorizo sausage.  Now, I like chorizo, but that's very disingenuine to sautee these two disparate meats together (and disparate culinary traditions), and label it as Pakistani chicken.

Based on the awful botha chicken and cheap biriyani, I am giving this 2 stars.

    Sorry Sabri.

I think the correct name of this restaurant is: Sabri Nihari.

The first time we had dinner here, we ordered the Vegetarian Samosas (warning: they are huge - and there were 4 of 'em per order).  For the entree we had the chicken frontier (based on the raving reviews here), and since I'm a lambakindagal, we also ordered the only lamb dish they have on the menu.

My advise is: get the only lamb dish they have on the menu.  Not that I dislike the chicken frontier - but I like the lamb dish much better.  Maybe because I'm still very much in love with Chutney's Chicken Tikka Masala (yes yes, the one in SF, darn it!) - and since then I haven't been able to find a new love (of Pakistani chicken dish).

The naan is good - warm and HUGE (but yet, we ordered 2 of them, plain and garlic).  The biryani rice was good, too, not overly spiced - just right.  The mango lassi was just a perfect finish to wash down those tingling-spicyness in your mouth afterwards.

Service was awesome!  Seriously, the best service I've experienced from an Indian/Pakistani restaurant!  We had leftover (enough for the next full meal), and they wrapped each one of them so nicely.

On our second visit - I noticed the picture of their butter chicken - looks really close to Chutney's Chicken Tikka Masala.  So I ordered it.  Yaay ... eureka ... I finally found it!!!  I prefer the butter chicken way over the frontier chicken.  But of course that's just me.  Aah ... what a relief.  I finally found my lost love of the Pakistani chicken dish!

I'm the kind of person who'd like to try different restaurants - but, with Indian/Pakistani food, I think Sabri Nihari is the only one I would go to - for as long as they have the butter chicken! (unless you could tell me another restaurant who also has similar dish ...)
