Nice, simple sandwich in the Vietnamese-baguette style. Â There is only one vegetarian option (simply called 'The Vegetarian') but the sandwiches only vary in the protein, so I feel pretty comfortable saying that they are all essentially the same taste-wise.
For only 5 bucks you get a decent size sandwich that is made to order. Â A really nice taste with just a little bit of spice--but not boring or bland at all. Â I'd happily eat this sandwich again and again.
Say hi to Bryson, owner and chef, and enjoy the simplicity of the offerings. Â Really can't go wrong with any of the protein choices, but it's fun to experiment with the specials like spam or the all-beef hot dog every once in awhile. Â The regular Veggie option with soy curls and mushroom pate is quickly becoming my go-to. Â The bread is the perfect amount of crustiness....something I notice every time.
Review Source:Holy crap, I took a chance and drove by to see if Saigon was open on a Saturday afternoon, as I heard that hours were fairly limited, and boy let me tell you, it was worth it. This sandwich (the deli special) was absolutely phenomenal! The condiments were tang and spicy, and the meat was very flavorful and tender. I will definitely be back to try the lemongrass chicken next time.
Review Source:Good sandwiches, but definitely not great. Â Don't wait too long to eat it because it gets soggy. Â There's one thing I dlslike more than bad food, it's good food gone bad because of soggy bread. Â
I love Vietnamese sandwiches, so maybe I expect too much. Â Keep and eye on the guy's Twitter account to see when he's open. Â I don't like how he's inconsistent with his hours. Â I went there the other day and he was closed and didn't post that he was closed. Â I was bummed.
I am totally in.
As CHOW! put it so well, Saigon "specializes in banh mi, those baguette-style sandwiches that are in many ways the epitome of the Franco-Vietnamese fusion."
Parked across the street from Ninkasi in the heart of the Whit, this cart serves sandwiches that deliver everything I want from Asian food: salty, sweet, tart and spicy. They've really nailed it.
The Deli Special (grilled pork, ham and country pate) is $6 and the rest are $5 - lemongrass chicken, hoisin pork and vegetarian (grilled soy meat and mushroom pate). I regret I didn't see the day's special before I ordered - Spam! Â Each is served on a good French roll and dressed with pickled carrots, daikon, sliced cucumbers, jalapeno slices and mayonnaise. Â I paid an extra buck for a small portion cup of deliciouisly pickled cauliflower, and it was totally worth it.
This is what street food should be.
I've only stopped by the cart once, but I was moved to write a review. I had the pork sandwich. The pork was so tender! There was a great balance of flavors. It is spicy, savory, sweet, tangy, and had great texture. It seemed like all you would ever want in one sandwich. I am excited to try the others. I'll be back.
Review Source:Sandwiches are excellent, prepared to your order, good bread, crunchy on the outside, not so hard it cuts your mouth, soft inside. Â Plenty of meat in sandwich, could use a bit more veggies to my taste, but very good. Â Leftovers were very tasty several hours later, which was a surprise. Â
Didn't try vegetarian option. Â Open 11-3.
