    Totally overrated. Worse than Dennys.

I went there Saturday for breakfast. The eggs were under-cooked, the sausage appeared to have been cooked earlier and then heated up on the grill again. And the potatoes were room temperature. (The toast was fine.)

So today I asked the hotel for someplace better. They assured me that usually the food there is very good and I should give it another try. So I went again. The waffle was room temperature and rubbery. The bacon was charred crisp, but at least hot.

The service was pleasant & prompt.

Oh and Saturday morning I arrived as it opened. I was looking out the window and I saw the manager go out to the newspaper box, but in a quarter, and then remove all the papers in there and bring them into the restaurant. So along with lousy food, they're thieves.

We were seated, we received our appetizer and after a 30 minute wait the waitress comes over to our table to let us know she forgot to place our order but that she would be placing our order then!! We had our child with us who was hungry and getting fussy by then so we just had her cancel the order. We're very disappointed with the service.

Classic American diner with huge menu, and huger portions. Skip the fries and go with the tater tots next to your burger and you will be happy. Finish off one of their shakes and you will be stuffed.

Portions bigger than your head and drinks as tall as your arm (no, really, check that mimosa), Sam's has all that a diner should offer, and then some. If you're with indecisive people, I highly suggest having them review the menu ahead of time as it is about 20 pages long and the options seem unlimited, probably because they are. You will not leave here hungry or, if you're doing it right, sober.

Awesome Diner in downtown Denver. Used to work right around the corner so this was a once a week occasion for my team. Always friendly service, good food and hot coffee. My norm is the Chorizo and Cheddar omelet with green chili which comes with biscuits and gravy...they need to roll me out the door every time. Love it.

    I. Love. Diners.

Sure, I also enjoy all the froufrou food Denver has to offer, but sometimes you just need a good old fashioned burger. Or meatloaf sandwich. Or mac and cheese. As far as I know, there isn't a better place to find such fare in Denver than at Sam's.

We went before a show at the DCPA last night, and getting a reservation can be tricky. Mostly because, well, they don't really take them. You call two hours before, or an hour before, or whatever - so, I wouldn't show up here during prime chow time with a large group and expect to be seated immediately. However, at 5pm we were pretty early, and were seated soon enough.

The menu is huge. Sure, I know that DB Gordon Ramsey thinks this is a bad thing, and in a lot of ways he's right. But this is a diner, and they can do it right. You've got your omelets, your burritos, your burgers, your friends, your macaroni, your entrees... and I'm forgetting about 500 other items on the menu. They've also got a full bar, so you can drink it up while you eat it up.

Finally - it's cheap! I didn't have a drink, and was in and out for about $8 (I had the awesome meatloaf sandwich, which I've included a picture of).

Don't go and try to be healthy... but do go.

    NOM.

Every-so-slightly increased classiness greasy spoon.  Long waits.  Fun if you're visiting.  Great if you want to load your belly with a few pounds of deliciousness.

Huge menu.  Similar to a Dostoyevsky novel, it takes a while to get through.  You might stop a few times, and ask yourself, "WTF?!". But stay strong my friend, it's worth the strife.

Yes, the burritos are legit . STRIFE: deciding to order breakfast burritos or regular burritos.

We were surprised by how yummy the meatloaf sandwich was.

    Friendly service.

I can see why this place was featured on Triple D, Great location , we walked from our hotel at The Curtis. Service was great. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Great place for breakfast.

Great food! Fun, diner atmosphere! It's a bit loud though. The breakfast food was great. My family liked their chili dogs & burritos too.

Yummm, we love to stop here whenever we are downtown. Great prices, breakfast all day and night and the atmosphere is very nice. Very efficient service as we always get our food very quickly. The menu is full of great meals and we have never had a bad dish. Many times we even split the kitchen sink burrito because it's so dang big! Try it, you'll like it.

I have been eating here for over 15 years. I started out at the Aurora location. I have only ever ordered breakfast .. It is sooo good and can't make it to lunch items.. Maybe one day :) So over the years I have had many favorites . When I was a vegetarian for 5 years I loved the veggie skillets. They make the best veggie green chili I have every had and treat me I search out diners like this one ever time I'm out of town and I have never found one quite this good. From the avalanche skillet to the Huevos ranchers I have never had a bad meal. For the last few years the chili rellenos plate with eggs over easy and toast has been my go to dish :) even the biscuits and gravy are good and me being from the south that is saying a lot. Now of course it is not as good as mine ;) But moving on the bloody mays are the Best in Denver!! You can get them with celery or loaded. Either way it is Yummy! I am very sad though that they quit selling coke products.. Good thing I drink the bloodys when I go there. They are friendly and fast and a must visit when your in Denver or just moved here!

Sucky.   That's what I put down when I created the draft on Yelp.  It still applies to this place so I left it.  This food here is so ordinary, that if it ever closed down and reopened as a Denny's, I still wouldn't be able to tell the difference.  I wished this place tried harder.  Maybe their breakfasts are better, but I'm not a breakfast guy.

Sam's No. 3 is perfect for upside down breakfast day! (That's when you eat breakfast for dinner - for those of you who aren't aware).  Breakfast is served all day, so if you want french toast and a margarita, go right ahead. The food can be a little shotty, but the service is consistently fast and you'll hardly ever face a wait.

I have been hearing and reading about Sam's for some time now.  I bookmarked it because the word was it's awesome.   Frankly, I just don't get what all the hype is about.

We came here Saturday night after a concert across the street about 10:30.  We sat at the bar, and were ignored for some time.  There was a bartender who was coming in and out of the cooler and traveling from the bar area to the dining room, he looked at us each time he was in the area, but took almost 10 minutes to get to us.  Finally we got drinks and menus, my friend ordered a burger and I ordered a gyro.  Neither was anything special.  Now, I should say that I don't really expect something mind blowing at a diner, as long as the food isn't bad, they're doing their job.  Something that irked us was that my friend tried to order a salad for her side instead of fries, and was told that it would cost extra.  For iceberg lettuce and a couple of vegetables they charge more.  I think that's pretty poor customer service.

My main gripe was the service though, the bartender was just uninterested in us from the beginning.

Now, the music they played was fantastic, and the decor is the cheesy diner look.  They have a full bar with some basic selections and some decent liquor.

Overall, however, I have a hard time grasping why so many have been raving about this place.  It seems to me that it's a clone of every other diner, with the customer service lacking.

This is a great place to eat when you're heading to the DCPA for a show, because you can park in the DCPA garage and walk just one block to the diner. Paying for parking once, and heading to two different places? Bonus.

We were there in a very busy night, but only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table.

The portions are large for the money, the service is faster than fast, and the food is really good.

Husband had the Meatloaf Melt, which came with a big pile of fries, and I had the Greek Salad. We got out of there with full, satisfied stomachs, for about $25.

I am generally a big fan of Sam No 3, but i generally go to the Aurora location.  This location was not on it in the way that I am accustomed.  The food here was more or less the same, good greasy spoon breakfast.  The service at this location on the other hand was slow and incompetent! They didn't have the zing that the ladies in Aurora have sorry.....I wont be back.

My boyfriend and I found ourselves here after the Ravens/Broncos playoff game on Saturday. After freezing and being too stressed out to eat for nearly 7 hours (game + tailgate time), Sam's offered everything we needed: a warm, comfortable restaurant with tasty food and solid portions. (And a place to safely celebrate the Ravens' victory among disappointed Broncos' fans).

We both ordered breakfast for dinner (love that they serve breakfast all day). I got the kitchen sink filled with bacon, sausage, ham, gyro, peppers, onions, mushrooms -- a Paleo-eater's dream. They were accommodating about my substitutions -- happy to leave out the cheese and give us some fruit instead of toast (eek, gluten!) and hash browns.  The side of green chili that came with our omelets was so warm, tasty, and spicy that I had to order another bowl of it after I finished. Yum. It was also pretty delicious on top of my omelet.

The service was attentive though I felt a bit rushed. One star deducted because my hot toddy was meh.

Amazing selection on the menu in this diner/restaurant estabilishment close to all thd downtown culture-on a cold Sunday morning after the Broncos lost in the playoffs, we walked 5 blocks from the Sheraton at 8AM, cold, but not too crowded this early. Immediately seated, querkly but very cool great service waiter made suggestions, got us coffee quickly, and we selected the breakfast quesadillas, which were filled with eggs, sausage, with topped with chunky pork green chili, smooth, spicy, not too much flour, just right. Order to service-maybe 5-6 minutes hot and pefectly service, mega portions. Constant coffee refills, and very enthusiastic service. Thought we saw a new Sams 3 going up in Glendale on the former Sam Taylor BBQ? Sams 3 is a breakfast must in your life!

I was expecting a bit more from this place.  I went there for lunch earlier this week and left a little disappointed.

I'll give the chili cheese fries a great review cuz they we're all they hype!  But that's where is stops.  I had the Toro Pot and I'd never order it again.  Not tasty at all.  My friend had the Chili Relleno plate and he didn't care much for his food either.

The people at the front we kind and very helpful.  Our waiter on the other hand seemed like he didn't care about his job or helping us.  He kinda sucked.

For our only meal in Denver I'll say we made a mistake by going here.

Rarely on vacation do I eat at the same place for Breakfast every morning. Our first morning in Denver we were so close to Sams from our hotel we decided to give it a shot. We LOVED it! Great coffee, food, atmosphere....and the service was great.  One morning it was a little "off" but we'll let that slide -- they were busy and it happens. All mornings there was a substantial wait but we were seated promptly. This place is a fine tuned machine -- you can tell by how smoothly things run. Our last Morning we sat at the counter - fun! Not one complaint! Thanks for the fun experience, great service and delicious food! We'll be back!

    Disappointed.

Chili cheese fries were good. But the meatloaf melt was terrible and the Mac n' cheese tasted powdery like a box mix. The cookie w/ ice cream dessert wasn't good either. Cookie was hard and cold, not chewy and warm.

Sad to have to rate them so low...I got sucked into the hype but left disappointed.

P.s to Sam's -- if you're going to heavily emphasize your spot on Diners, Drive Ins & Dives...make sure your food can back it up!!

Great diner food with lots of choices....and top-notch service.  In a diner, you don't normally expect this level of service, so it's a bit of a shock to get it. :)  this is a popular location, so the wait for a table can be a little long so it's nice that they have coffee for those waiting.

A solid diner with may of good choices & HUGE portions.

    * Fruit Plate - 5 stars (fresh & perfectly ripe)
    * Green Chili - 3 stars (good, but needs hot sauce - serrano green)
    * Red Chili - 3.5 stars (basic, but it works - chipotle sauce helps too)
    * Omelette  - 3.5 stars (flat & dry) but veggies were fresh & tasty
    * Coffee - 4 stars (fresh & hot)
    * Service - 4 stars (hard to get decaf refills)

We would visit again.  But, come early on weekends to avoid the crowds.

I'm so torn about the rating I should give Sam's... My friend and I went here because of their mention on the Food Network, and well, Guy Fieri is either really right or really wrong. Sam's fell in the middle.

This place is better known for the atmosphere and diner feel. We ordered the usual breakfast food. Service was a little choppy, and the food took a little longer than it should have. I left satisfied and ready to take on the day with a gigantic breakfast, but I didn't leave feeling I experienced something I couldn't get in any other town. Does that make sense?

We had to park FAR away and pay ten bucks for a spot and walk about six blocks, but it was sooooo worth it!   It was pretty quiet at 10:30 AM when we showed up, so we had no problem getting a seat and got drinks instantly.

We looked at the menu last night so we were prepared.  Got a Cinna-Monster to start and it was epic and big enough for 3 people.  Since there were only two of us, some of it had to be left behind.

I got the Burrito Supreme with sausage, ham, bacon, potato, eggs, cheese, tomato, and a ton of that green chili on top!   Since I'm visiting from Texas, I have to say it didn't have much fire, but the kick was good and the flavor was fantastic!  Did I mention it was HUGE AS MY HEAD?  It was.  I ate it ALL because of that chili.  It was served on a hot plate over a warm plate, so it stayed toasty the whole 30 minutes it took me to eat it!

My wife had the Eggs Benedict and wasn't expecting the size either.  It was two huge servings with tons of canadian bacon which she didn't eat most of, but the sauce was tasty and the eggs were super runny which made that pound of hash browns on the side so much more awesome!

Great place, Great price, Great service!

I will be back for the kitchen sink and dessert.

It's okay. I had the 2 combination dinner with chile relleno and beef taco. Taco was something I could make at home easily and the chile relleno was nothing special,  small, flat and overcooked. I couldn't really taste the salsa verde but whatever.

It's okay but really it's just another greasy joint so don't go out of your way. Maybe I'm just spoiled where I live with so many genuinely smarter food options without the lard, grease and cheap silverware.

The menu is so large its hard to figure out what to get!

We got the kitchen sink omlet and an egg breakfast with green chili. Kitchen sink omlet was good. The green chili is not really a chili to me since it is so watery. Its more like a green chili soup. It was okay, but the presentation and flavor kind of reminded me of cafeteria food for some reason. Also had the red chili and that was kind of like Tommy's chili but less greasy.

Its a convenient place for breakfast or food before a game but it gets packed! They also serve ice cream here!

Service was particularly slow when we went, but it appeared that our waiter was serving the entire restaurant and was running around like crazy. It took absolutely forever to take our order and then to get our drinks, but we had time to kill so it was okay.

I had the burger and it was okay, it didn't blow me away or anything. My wife had the tacos, which looked absolutely fantastic. Someone at another table had the chicken fried chicken, which looked better than my burger, too :)

Checkout was hectic, with only 1 register running and everyone having to stand in line to pay. Seemed like it would've been easier to just pay the server. I think I stood in the pay line for about 10 minutes.

Overall, I'd come back, but hopefully they wouldn't be as busy!

If your familiar with downtown then you're familiar with Sam's #3.  We finally we found the time to venture to Sam's #3 for dinner, the perfect time actually, right before a play at the Buell with a group of us.

First impression is it's fun and bright inside with a ginormous menu.  Pages of great options, breakfast served all day, a full page of burritos, Mexican classics on the back, burgers, Greek items and lots of other items.  We took our time deciding on our decisions.  The table got, Green Chili, side salad, Gyro Greek Salad, Chicken Soulvaki, Mac and Cheese, and a Mexican variety plate with a mini bean and cheese burrito, beef enchilada, and a Chile Relleno.

The favorites on our first visit was the Mac and Cheese, an excellent homey variety with lots of creamy cheese.  The Gyro meat on the Greek Salad was delicious and plentiful.  Chicken Soulvaki sandwich was my order and a favorite, moist chicken, fresh bread, flavorful tziki dipping sauce.  The Chile Relleno was crispy and a table favorite - I would order a plate of those.  The Green Chile was good, not great, although I don't have a lot to compare it to.  It wasn't as hot as I was hoping it would be.

Great quality food received for a great price and a friendly environment.  We will definitely make this must stop before theater since we all want to try more of the menu.  Yummy!!

I used to go to Sam's on Havana (south of Parker Road) for some tasty and large breakfasts.  However, that was a decade ago, and I have not been back in a long time.  I have walked and driven by the one in Downtown Denver so many times over the years.  Finally, I ate here before going to see Memphis the other night.  The service was excellent, and the food was very good.  However, I was not as impressed as many people have been with the green chile, I think  it was a solid "B".  The pork version had generous amounts of tender pork within it.  The flavor was pretty good, but I would not even call this "gringo hot".  Yes, the heat levels on something like this can vary from batch to batch, but I found this to be somewhat bland.

The Greek Salad w/ Pita that I had (I added Gyro meat) was huge.  Not only was there most of a head of Romaine Lettuce in the bowl (with other veggies), there was easily a half pound of meat on top.  The Greek dressing could have been stronger and/or there could have been a bit more of it.  The pita pieces were the perfect texture (slightly moist and fairly chewy) and tasted great.  The Tzatziki sauce on the side was just the way I like it (pungent without being overpowering).  I also sampled (from friendly dining companions) some of the chicken Souvlaki (moist and flavorful), the side of mac and cheese (way better than many restaurants serve) and a burrito with rice and beans (pretty darn tasty).

If you have theater tickets (or even a confirmation email) they will give you a 15% discount off of your order.

Another Diners Drive ins and Dives hit! Came here last week for breakfast and it was fantastic. I had a traditional bacon and eggs, and had to try the green chili on the side. My dad had the chorizo and eggs, which was one of the better batches of that dish I've ever had.

I had been down on DDD spots, but my trip to Denver has turned me around, i would take a star off because the service wasn't great, but the servers were running around like crazy so I can't blame them!

Unfortunately I had takeout for dinner because I had to continue working from my hotel room, so I didn't get the full diner experience.  I also ordered a burrito, and normally the best diner food is breakfast food.  Total fail on my part.
I'd say...meh.  It wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best, either.  It gets an extra star for excellent customer service.  All the folks were super nice to me and the food came very quickly.  I could see myself coming here with a group for brunch or late night after being out drinking.  Not sure if it was the best choice for dinner.

They were super quick and friendly... & they leave a jug of water at the table for you. & have alcohol and a little bar at the back.

I think it's funny that yelp refers to me as a regular since I've checked in 3 times.  I don't live in Denver, but when i was out there for a conference recently, I did eat 3 meals here.  In the span of 2 days.

Huge portions, delicious food and a decent beer selection (I think I just got Dales on draft).  I tried the steak fajita and fish tacos, the chile relleno and a couple of the ginormous burritos.  Their pork green chili is so tasty  and having that smothered ona burrito larger than my head, I was in heaven.  Very very fatty gluttonous heaven.

I also spent some time at the hotel gym burning off some of these calories ;)

    I don't know why I haven't tried this place before; as a rule I love Denver-area diners!

They get a trifle busy around dinner, especially on a weekend, so we opted to sit at a bar tabletop.  Service was friendly and timely, and my husband was impressed with the local brews they had on tap.  The bar area is great if you want to catch a game while you dine.

I had the Colorado Cheese Steak in a pita with fries, and it was excellent!  My husband had their breakfast burrito and said it was almost as good as the Breakfast King on Santa Fe. :)

The wait staff were accommodating as well to get us served and checked out in time to jaunt over to DCPA for our show.  Extra points for complimenting my husband's Bill-F*cking-Murray shirt and discussing his movies.
