Very good selection of wine and cheeses with an excellent knowledge of the products offered. Â Spent a weekend in Asheville and came here each night to unwind and a once for dinner.
Sante is a fantastic stop for a glass of wine, beer, a small bite before dinner, a small dinner, dessert, or any combination above.
Great selection of wines by the glass or bottle or you can select 4 half pours for $15 for a "custom" flight.
They also have a nice selection of cheeses/crackers/nuts to pair with wine.
They also serve beer, but I don't know how extensive that selection is since we were having wine.
Nice outdoor seating, upscale indoor seating and bar area. Service was great. Make some time to stop here when in Asheville.
We try to fit it the 10 for 10 tasting that is on Sunday every time we visit Asheville. Â It has become a bit of tradition. You are allowed to try 10 wines of your choice (from a list) for 10 bucks. A great selection of beer and wines on tap. Great place! The bartender is very knowledgeable and never lets your glass be empty for long!
Review Source:Came here with a group of ladies, and we had an excellent time. Â They have some really interesting wines and the waiter knew what he was talking about. Â I always appreciated it when someone can see that I'm having a hard time deciding and helps me make the decision. Â He was willing to bring me a few small tastes before I committed, and even threw in a wine he thought I might like. Â Well done!
Review Source:So, I met a friend here for a few glasses of wine.
I like this place. Â Very laid back, servers are not on top of you every few minutes........but a draw back is.....servers are not on top of you every few minutes *grin*...seriously, good wine selection and a great outdoor space makes this one of...if not "the" best wine bar in the city.
Through in a little food and this place has it all.......now if someone would just bomb that LaZoom bus so the tourist wouldn't not come by gawking it would perfection *wink*.
Me and my wife came here for some wine and a cheese plate after a day out hiking nearby. Â We were helped by our waitress to make a wine choice and we were pleased with the outcome.
We ordered a yokel cheese board and it was just what we were looking for.  The bread and crackers that came with it were perfect and the grapes were large and very tasty.
We easily decided to get some dessert since it was only 5 bucks.  We settled on the cheesecake and we were so glad that we did.  We were told it was made at a local place and it definitely put an exclamation point on a great meal. Â
Our waitress had to take a break before we were finished but another guy from the bar area took care of us without any inconvenience to us.
I would highly recommend coming here if you are looking for a place to have a decently priced bottle of wine and you really like good cheese plates.
This is a regular stop for the wife and I on weekend getaways to Asheville. We love the lounge-like ambiance of the inside  and the outdoor cafe style seating of the patio (in the warmer months).  Combined with a delicious mix of cheese boards and appetizer-style dips, you can ruin your dinner plans here before you know it, in a good way.
In addition to a number of beers from the bottle, the main attraction here are the wines. Â I'd range the selection as moderate in size and covering most palettes in terms of sparklings, whites, and reds. Â There is a noticeable bent toward Spanish and French reds here, but bold red drinkers will appreciate this. Â I'll agree with others that their American selection is weak, but I'd urge you to try something new if this is a bother to you- they will let you try a small sample of up to three different wines by the glass. Â There are also a few flights you can try as well.
What you will notice (and big time bonus points here), is that in addition to selling a few wines by the glass and by the bottle, Sante is also a retail wine store that will sell you anything on their wall of wine and then charges only a $5 corkage fee to pop and pour it for you. Â The vast majority of their wines are moderately priced ($10-25) so you get a great bottle without the typical restaurant mark up. Â You can't find that elsewhere in town, so if you like wine, they would go on your "must" list.
I do thoroughly enjoy their cheese boards, both for the local selections and the specialty pairings (4 different goat cheese, for example). Â The accoutrement is also well done- from the nuts to the many-seeded crackers I adore. Â The only problem here is that the portion sizes (and corresponding prices) are large, even for a couple to share. Â There is enough cheese and fixings on a single board to serve as an appetizer for 3-4 people, easily. Â I wish they did half-portions, as this would be more appropriately sized for a typic pair to share. Â
Still, this is relatively minor in comparison since the price of a board and bottle can equate to the price for a single lower-end bottle in most restaurants. Â To Sante, I say Salut!
Snobbery at its most "refined". Â The standoffish attitude from the owners makes it clear that this bar is cliquey and caters to the wealthier Asheville residents and tourists. Â They did have a charity event for the low-income legal office in town which I attended and enjoyed the first time I went, but can't help but feel soured by my next brush with them. Â Went in to inquire about donations for a function for the women's shelter and the woman wrote me off before I could get five words out of my mouth: Â "If I don't know you or see you in here everyday, I don't give anything." Â Verbatim...and it totally blew any Samaritan image they tried to create.
Review Source:On each of our last two trips to Asheville, my wife and I have ended up at Sante for a pre-dinner glass of vino. Â During both visits, we experienced extremely friendly service and good wine. Â What more do you want out of a wine bar? Â
The interior has two distinct seating areas; a couch/highboy section and the bar. Â Both are dimly lit and decorated richly. Â A perfect atmosphere for a date or group get together. Â The staff is knowledgeable and the wine list seems to be well thought out and priced right for the quality. Â I have ordered wine flights and been impressed with the selections. Â On our first visit, we got a platter of house made dips and bread, which was tasty and paired with the wine nicely. Â
Definitely a perfect spot to grab a warm-up drink or hunker down for a relaxing evening.
I love Sante. Â It's a great place to stop in and have drinks before dinner, but it's also a great place to linger after dinner...and a great place to go to have a light dinner and drinks. Â The wine selection is always amazing and the servers are very friendly.
I won't recommend any specific wine (the people who work there do it best!), but I will recommend trying some of the dips with bread to nibble on. Â There was a bleu cheese one that was delicious, as well as a pesto dip that was really good. Â
Relax in the living room-style area, have some food, have some wine, go home sated. Â I would strongly recommend stopping by.
Very nice selection, although some more American wines and some better tasting notes would have been nice. Â The appetizer menu looked good, although our almonds had a little too much oil and not enough sea salt. Â We were really appreciative that they let us in 20 minutes before they opened, especially since it was starting to rain. Â Service was friendly and competent. Â Would definitely return.
Review Source:I went to this bar to celebrate my friend's birthday party and to begin with, it seemed like a really nice place. This was a total facade to underlying rudeness and deception!! When I returned home I discovered I was charged an extra tip on my credit card after leaving a cash tip, writing in the tip section on my receipt "cash", and also rewriting the total. When I called to bring this to the owner's attention she said, "So you were with that big drunk group that was here." First of all, none of the people in our group were drunk because this was our first stop for the night and we haven't been drinking previously. Yes, we were a little louder than the other 3 or so people in the bar, but by no means were we obnoxious. (even if we were, the way she said it was no way to speak to a customer that brought that amount of traffic to your business) After this show of complete rudeness, I will never return to this bar or recommend it to anyone.
Review Source:A cosmopolitan town the size of Asheville needs a great wine bar, and this is it. We first discovered Sante on our first trip to Asheville in 2007, and were equally impressed when we returned this year. Nice selection of wines and appetizers, even works for a light dinner (as it did for us). A lot of different wines, which is sort of the point . . we often come across real gems this way. Friendly staff, nice decor. Great way to spend an afternoon or evening.
Review Source:I really love this place. Â We've only had the opportunity to visit Asheville twice, but made it to Sante on both occasions. Â Both times it was not too crowded and the service was great. Â The staff was really helpful and engaged us in conversations about the wines. Â I am a huge fan of wine flights and I love trying a bunch of different types. Â I like that they have preset flights or you can pick your own. Â The food is very simple and very good. Â It's the perfect food for wine tasting! Â Lots of cheeses, meats, olives, bread, all great quality. Â Sante is the perfect place to stop for appetizers and drinks on the way to dinner or a great place to relax for a couple of hours with good friends. Â I hope that my next trip to Asheville will include a longer visit to Sante.
Review Source:This is one of my favorite places to go late night. Let me preface this opinion by saying that I've never been much of a party girl. My trips to dance clubs or parties are few and far between.
The atmosphere in Sante is intimate, but can also allow for meeting some interesting Asheville folk.
I've been to Sante numerous times for great wine, heavenly chocolate flights, the best walnut/blue cheese dip in the world and a savory cheese and meat board.
A 5 dollar corking fee is added to all bottles, but you are paying great prices for these bottles, so even with the corking fees it's still cheaper to come here for wine than to buy it in a restaurant.
The owners and servers are VERY nice and attentive. We have had lengthy conversations, shared jokes, and met new people with the owners. This wine bar also comes equipped with ample outdoor seating. There are 10-12 tables just outside, but they still fill up quick on an afternoon or evening in the mountains. Still, if you're stuck inside, the bar stools are very comfortable, and the round table just as you walk in is great for 8 crazy people coming from work on a Friday.
Some things that happen at Sante, stay at Sante (live long and prosper, Carly).
I just can't say enough good things. I've never had a bad experience here and always enjoyed the company and the wine.
