Best breakfast burritos in town. I've been to other locations, but this location tastes the best (to me). Awesome green chili - very spicy, and great deal for $2! Lines get a little out of control, but definitely worth the wait.

Wow, delicious food, friendly quick service.

If you ask for spicy, it's actually spicy!  YAY!

The last TWO times I stopped by here I ordered a smothered burrito for me and a handheld for my co-worker. My burritos were smothered in grease both times, my co-worker's handhelds were dripping grease and the tortillas were soaked. Horribly disgusting. Never coming back.
TIP: Try the Englewood location, MUCH MUCH better quality there.

    Not impressed.

I've had a few of their burritos at other locations and events, and those were always quite good. We dropped in one morning to the actual location... Not good. Bland, boring and just not worth it.

But at least now I know.

I ordered the Indian taco with half half green Chile, and it was horrible!!  It looked like a tostada covered in baby vomit!  This is not real Mexican food, stay away from this place if you are looking for good Mexican food.  This is more like taco bell but with green chili.

I usually get their smothered deluxe burrito and chile rellenos. Their chile rellenos are awesome. It's comfort food. If you want cheap Mexican, this is your best bet. Their extra hot breakfast burritos are awesome as well.  My only critique is they close at 8.  I would like it to be open later.

So I rolled into Santiagos on my way home yesterday, around 12. I had read some yelp reviews beforehand and heard good things before. Some key things:

    1. CASH only. Period.
    2. Breakfast burritos - ONLY until 11 AM - boo, hiss. That's why I went there!
    3. No Booze. Zip. Zero.

As I was solo and really just wanted a breakfast burrito, I chose to get a quart of HOT green chili to go, and make my own at home. A quart was less than $5. Not the best I have ever had, (Brewery Bar II is hotter), but the best for the buck.

Delicious and cheap!  I like my food spicy but decided to try my burrito smothered in half and half the first time I came and it wasn't quite hot enough for me.  So, the next time I went I ordered the hot. Not sure if it was the right decision or not,  my face ended up melting off  through my entire burrito.  Was it worth it, heck yea it was!  Just be sure to have an orange in hand to kill the burn when you finish.

The only bummer is this place only takes cash!

Honestly, I don't think Santiago's is all that good, there are several other places I go to regularly for Mexican food or for breakfast burritos.  However, I do think that for $2 they make an A-OK breakfast burrito that's perfect for when we're about to head up to the mountains.

This Santiago's location is really no different than the other locations. Same great green chile and Mexican food. This location is big enough you can kick back and relax if you want and dine in without only having to do take out. Despite that this location does not accept debit or credit cards, only cash. Awwww. Just when I was starting to get used to going to Santiago's and not having to worry about carrying cash. Also while there are tables here to sit at quite a few of them looked like they were not cleaned after the last person was eating there.

Santiagos is a good place to stop in before a hike, to grab a breakfast burrito before hitting 6th to go west.

I had a great cheap and fast meal, an alternative to fast food.  I will definitely go back for more when in the area.

Not amazing, but will try again.

I have 4 quarts of green shipped to me in South Carolina.

Unbelievable how good it is...It is better than Chubby's.

I have the best green east of Colorado...WoooHooo.

Great, but inconsistent. I got the uber-hot chile both trips I've made and once was bold and flavorful but not hot and once was scorching to the point where I'm not perfectly sure what it tasted like.

I'd skip over the cheap but decent breakfast burritos in favor of a sopapilla. The "indian taco" is essentially just a corn toastada. Nothing is bad, but everything pales in comparison to the sopapilla--soft, fluffy, fried, with just a hint of sweetness. And like everything at Santiago's, it's cheap as heck.

I like their patio although they could do with some shade. If you aren't so hung over that you require a mimosa or bloody mary (I don't think these guys have booze), this is your best bet for brunch.

This place was recommended to a coworker by a lady who said she was a chef so we decided to check it out. ...Not a fan, the lunch menu looked good but I'm very disappointed. Bland beef soft tacos, salsa taste like dominos pizza sauce. Beans look like they were cooked in lard and left to sit.
Food is cheap, service is nice but I won't be coming back. Another con is that this place is cash only.
Maybe the "chef" works at Denny's or something? Don't know how anyone would be satisfied with this food; really gross.

So many people rant and rave over Santiago's chili that I thought I would take my son to try it.  We stopped one afternoon and picked up 2 burritos and 2 tamales.  Although a teenage boy will eat just about anything my son does know good homemade food when he tastes it.  He thought it had flavor (especially the tamales), but the burritos were SOOOOOO greasy that we each used several napkins to soak up the mess.  It was stupid.  Never again!

I can't get enough of their breakfast burritos with cheese and 1/2 and 1/2 Green Chile sauce.  I love spicy, and this is just perfect to wake me up in the mornings!

Fast service, easy access from 6th Ave or Santa Fe and plenty of parking. Decent, but not great breakfast burritos. In the interest of speed, they only offer one type of burrito each day. Today (Friday) is "pork sausage" day.

Pork, eggs, cheese and green chile all wrapped up in a burrito. I should love them.

    I don't.

The pork sausage tasted like the pigs had been forced to listen to Yanni records while watching the Lifetime network their whole life -- it was sad & bland. Santiago's touts that they have "the hottest green chile in town." It's hot, but it provides more heat than flavor.

I would have loved Santiago's when I was in college. Back then all I cared about was how hot the food was.

I had a mullet my freshman year.

    'nuff said!

Oh, and in a time when even parking meters accept credit cards, Santiago's is cash only.

Only giving it a 4 because I'm new to town and haven't tried many burrito joints yet, though they seem to be in abundance in Denver.

Nice sized breakfast burritos for the price,
fast moving lines and quickly prepared orders,
    outdoor seating,
I've been back several times already!

Ya gotta admit - $2 does not get you much anymore... BUT it does get you an AWESOME breakfast burrito at Santiago's!
They are addictive to say the least. Yeah their may be fancier, gourmetish type burritos, but you'll be hard pressed to find a better one for only two bucks!!!

Gets my vote as the worst Mexican food in Denver.
Outside the building you are always choked with the smell of over boiled chicken.  The green chili is watery and the horchata is dispensed from a machine. Your order can end up completely wrong and the service is slow. I have a hard time believing that people like this place so much, clearly good Mexican food consists of breakfast burritos.

I'd love to tell you about the bean and cheese burrito I had at Santiago's this morning, but unfortunately my mouth has been burned off.

Well, in a good way. If you like your green chile hot, this place isn't going to disappoint you. Just be sure to order your fire-fighting beverage of choice, 'cause you'll need it.

Seems like Santiago's must be focusing all their attention on the food, because the atmosphere in the 8-table dining room leaves a little to be desired. As long as the place isn't too crowded, you can get see some pretty decent city views through the large picture windows, though.

As others have noted, this spot is cash only. There is a pseudo-ATM on site: run your card for the desired amount, pay your transaction fee, and get a credit slip which they'll exchange for cash at the counter.

Why only 4 stars? I'll be updating when I sample more of the menu - which I plan on doing immediately!

Kat A. is right.  Amazingly delicious breakfast burritos. I was in line today to get mine and started chatting with the guy behind me.  He told me a story about how his wife went through withdrawls when another location was under renovations (because someone smashed their car into it).  I thought to myself, "would I miss my Santiagos if someone smashed their car into it?"  The answer is yes.

*big shout out for the chicken soft tacos again too.  So tender and flavorful.  Yum.

The best place in town for a cheap, delicious, and quick breakfast burrito.

Santiago's is a simple, cash-only establishment that has mastered the art of the breakfast burrito. At $2 a piece, the burritos are not large, but still a very good deal. The green chile is fantastic, full of flavor, and ranges from mild to very spicy. I recommend the "half and half" to someone that appreciates heat, but doesn't want to be overwhelmed. The "hot" will make your lips burn. Anytime before 11am, you can usually have your food within 5 minutes of ordering.

I've been to Chubby's (my second favorite), The Burrito Company, Little Anitas, El Nopalito, El Taco de Mexico, Tacos Rapidos, and Moe's for breakfast burritos. Santiagos consistently outshines all of these establishments. No other place in Denver can match Santiago's combination of price, speed of service, and flavor.

It's possible I need to give this place another try to get a better idea of why so many love this spot so much.

By no means am I calling it bad, it's just not as impressive to me as some of the reviews lead me to believe.

I don't know what I was expecting, but what I got was a foil wrapped burrito of medium size for a couple bucks. The folks were friendly, the lines were long but fast moving and obviously the food was good.

I went with the hot green chili and chefs choice meat. It was good, I was satisfied.

So with that being said, this place is a reliable quick stop for a good breakfast, but I'm not ready to give this place 4 or more stars until I give it another go, cause at this point I just don't get the hype.

My search for the best green chile has ended at Santiago's. I have eaten at every Mexican restaurant I can find and ordered the same thing. Santiago's Green Chile beats 'em all. They have a breakfast burrito for $2 bucks that is amazing. Thursdays is the best day to go because it's Chorizo Day.

The place is small and unassuming with a line of contractors, painters, Denver Water employees, Xcel guys, etc who all work nearby and stop in for a bag full of breakfast burrito goodness. There are some tables and a decent patio if you want more of a sit down experience. They have a full menu of Mexican food they serve throughout the day. If you want the breakfast burrito, get there before 11am.  Between 8-9am be prepared for a line of people ordering and waiting for their to go orders. Don't be put off though because the line USUALLY moves quickly.

The breakfast burrito comes with eggs/potato/cheese and meat of the day.  They make the green chile in hot, mild or half and half. If you're used to spicy, go for the hot. My favorite is the half and half. It has a good kick but won't make you cry.

What? You've never heard of burrito day? Why it's the most wonderful day of the year (sometimes it comes a few times a year). On one special morning, I walk into work and find 2 (yes two) warm, foil-wrapped breakfast burritos sitting by my computer. I don't know who brings them or why, but I don't ask any questions...mostly because I am too busy chowing them down.

This location is on par with the one of Broadway. I am surprised no one has mentioned the green chile yet because it's A M A Z I N G. Oh wait....someone mentions it in every, single review.

I go with the half and half and it is the perfect kick to my morning.

Amazingly delicious breakfast burritos. Parking can be a pain in the morning on your way to work, but it's so worth it. For $2 you get a tasty meal (chef's choice on the meat each day, but I haven't tried one I didn't like), a friendly girl behind the counter, and enough spice to kick your sinuses into high gear. You can go with hot, half and half, or mild (this isn't really spelled out on the menu, unless I've missed it). I've done the half and half routinely now, and I can't seem to break from it. It's spicy, but not too spicy.

If anyone here is familiar with the ordering style at Gates in KC, this is similar. The folks who get in line know what they want and it moves fast. The folks behind the counter expect you to know your order when you reach the front of the line; however, they don't yell at you, so that's a plus. First time I went involved a mini-anxiety attack because I just wasn't ready. That is PRESSURE first thing in the morning.

Gets four stars off of the breakfast burritos only.  They are delicious.  The half and half is the sauce you want (half hot, half mild).  Some of my favorite breakfast burritos in the city.
I have never been here for lunch or dinner so I can't comment on the other items they offer.

This place is usually very busy, and is more of a stand than a restaurant. It does have tables, but it is small and has real basic decor- almost ugly.  During breakfast and lunch you can see a crowd of blue collar workers in line for their burritos.

The $2 breakfast burrito is very good.

    The are fast and friendly.

Best breakfast burrito... maybe in the world? Certainly for 2 dollars, it cannot be beat! Just about anything smothered in their green chile is good, but a couple of my personal favorites are their stuffed sopapia and a bean n chicarone burrito smothered.

I like that their "medium" green chile is half hot/half mild... My wife orders it when she's feeling brave and often half of the breakfast burrito is mild and the other half is hot! Some might note this as a flaw, I think it is a hilarious and charming characteristic.

The most usual reason for me going to Santiago's for some grub is that i'm pressed for cash.  You can eat breakfast, lunch or dinner at this place for some ridiculously cheap prices.  For these prices you generally have to go down 6th a bit to Federal, so its basically a middle ground for those who enjoy mexican, but are scared to go in the heart of the beast.

The food is tasty, green chili is quite delicious.  You can so easily come in here and leave for lunch/dinner for under $5.  If you spend $5 on your breakfast you will feel bloated until well after lunch.  For $2 you get your fill on with a tasty breakfast burrito with chef's choice of meat, eggs, potatoes, green chili, and probably some other stuff as well.  Really can get you going in the morning.  The medium chili usually does it for me, and that can get a bit on the hot side.  As stated in probably every review, cash only, but they do have some jerry rigged ATM machine that is very suspect looking and just feel sketchy to use.

    BRING CASH!!

I goto this Santiago's as well as the one on Leetsdale about once a week (usually Friday morning).

It's the cook's pick on the meat each day of the week(doesn't matter; you can't taste it).  I get the HOT breakfast burrito or sometimes stick to the MEDIUM if I'm feeling acid-refluxy.  Really awesome green chile makes these burritos WIN.

Sometimes when I'm in here I feel like an idiot when I miss my order (it's early!!)  Mi espanol es muy malo.

Make sure you get your burrito made FRESH as they have a stack from 4am sitting in a bin under a heat lamp.  Excellent burrito, pretty small but still satisfying.  It's about ~$2.50/each I think.  These things always wake me up.

(They could make a killing if they had a stand in the Aurora Campus)

If you don't bring cash then have fun paying $2.50 surcharge to use their "ATM".  It's easier to cook the books when you're cash only....also no % fees for them.

i told my fiance 'if you screw up, i do not want flowers - i want a pint of hot green chili' ....this is no joke. i could eat here every day!

best green chili in denver. period

only thing i'm not a huge fan of is the location at 6th and sante fe does not take credit card - UM, it's 2009 and every other santiagos i frequent gladly accepts credit. they do have a ghetto ATM machine - always causes big delays. esp during morning breakfast burrito rush :)

Ok I have eaten here twice. There is absolutely nothing at all wrong with the food, it can be satisfying, and it taste is palatable, but it has no "POP". It definately is more true to Mexican style, than say Chipotle or Q'doba, or say your typical McCain/Palin sour cream and black bean burrito tail gate pity party extravaganza, however I think we need a Hispanic cousin of Emeril Lagasse to kick it up a notch.

This location is primarily a smaller take-out style building on 6th and Kalamath, with a seating arrangement off to the side. It looks a little bit make-shift, but it's not that bad, so don't be scrrrd. In addition I've also tried the food from their sister restaurant, #9 Santiago's at 95 S Sheridan Boulevard, on two separate occasions, which is more of a sit down restaurant. I rate them exactly the same.

I always get excited when the food smells good at the restaurant you're ordering at, and the dishes look like the delicious, authentic Mexican cuisine I grew up with, which is true here. Unfortunately, the taste doesn't hold up to the sights and smells. The Green Chili, which topped my burritos, tasted like it came from a can. I'm positive the problem mainly lies in the seasoning. There's an absence of garlic, onions or anything else fun in the green chili, It's just Green Chilies, which may or may not have been roasted, and may very well be from a can, cooked with some pork, tomatoes, and a thickening agent, and apparently no seasoning. If you have no idea about what truly DELICIOUS Mexican food is like, but you like the idea of having any old "real" Mexican food, or you just want to fill up, and not have to cook, then give it a try, it's definately edible, and definately not terrible. This place is way better than say, Blue Bonnet.

The crazy thing is I live a block away from Santiago's in Brighton, but I prefer this location to the one closer to my home. I always feel like I am too "white" at the one in Brighton. They aren't as friendly to the non Spanish speakers. I know some presumptions I should keep to myself, but I can't help it if it's true.

Besides the fact that they are on my way to work the people who work here are as friendly as they get. They are quick too!

Most important part of the visit is the food. Sure the burritos are standard no frills, but the green chili is THE BEST!! It's nice and hot while still having great flavor. If you don't like it hot they also offer mild and half and half. Sometimes I just buy a pint of chili to take home and make my own  burritos. They also do a tasty breakfast burrito for two bucks. It's a bit more for meat inside, but not much.

Extremely authentic. You might have to go back outside just to make sure you're still in Denver, not in Mexico City. Speaking a little Spanish definitely helps here- the employee who helped me seemed to be more accustomed to describing the menu in Spanish than in English, and had to resort to my very limited Spanish vocabulary in order to ask a couple of questions about the dishes.

As everyone else has said, try the green chile, whatever you order. It is amazing. Not too hot, but not too mild, and goes well with anything you order. I personally was craving chile rellenos when I walked in, but the rellenos were the last thing on my mind when I walked out.  More green chile!
