A great Jewish deli in Naperville? Â Who knew! Â
We stumbled upon this place on our way back to the city after a long meeting. Â Driving down Ogden Ave., we expected to have to settle for a fast food chain. Â We pulled into the parking lot of a small shopping center with just that in mind. Â We looked up and saw Schmaltz and it was like an apperition. Â Exactly what we wanted. Â Just as good as the 2nd Ave Deli in NY only new. Â Very friendly staff, authentic atmosphere, good ol' stick to your ribs Jewish food. Â To die for!
Apart from the line being a bit confusing (I'm guessing that's meant to be part of its charm?) , this place is the bomb. Well, that and the parking lot situation. (If you're paranoid about your car, this isn't a place you want to come. Bring a car you don't care about, or ride a motorcycle that you can stash in a corner spot so hopefully no one will ding it/knock it over. The parking lot for this strip mall is super congested.)
I had the #14 Sloppy Paul (their version of a Reuben) with pastrami, half-stuffed. Having never been here before, I wasn't sure what the relative sizes were...but I saw someone eating an overstuffed sandwich and quickly determined that I'd get through about a quarter of it if I ordered one of those. My SO had the chicken club.
Their house-made bagel chips and dill pickles are fantastic. I'd greatly prefer these bagel chips over any boring potato chips most other places might give you. One of mine was even apparently the top of a sesame bagel, so I had bonus toasted sesame seed yumminess.
And that Sloppy Paul...man, they weren't kidding. But somehow, I did manage to eat half of it (and yes -- it was half-stuffed, but I still only managed to eat half and had to take half home because they are THAT big) without making a huge mess. That is, by far, the finest Reuben I have ever put in my mouth. That marble rye is a thing of beauty. The Russian dressing must be house-made, and it's fantastic. The kraut -- do they make that there, too???? Oh. I'm in love. Can't wait till the weather gets better and I can ride my motorcycle here. Love.
My SO's chicken club was likewise really good -- except that there's no way to take a bite out of all the layers at once without unhinging your jaw. So he had to keep alternating bites between the layers. The bacon they use is also the finest bacon I've ever had -- and I've cured my own bacon before, and it was definitely quite tasty. This bacon was better. Oh dear.
I really want to try their soups (which look fantastic) and desserts at some point, too. With food like that, I don't know how I'll ever have room to do anything other than take some of those things to go, but that's OK. It's also right by the Naperville location of Super H-Mart. Nice!
Great deli, I regret living in Naperville for so long and only discovering it in the last year. Â My wife really loves the Sloppy Paul corned beef sandwich, and I like the Oy Vey (build your own) because I'm fussy. The marble rye is excellent. Â I really like the bagel chips instead of traditional potato chips.
Review Source:I went to this deli on Thursday at the request of a friend.Since I live 18 miles away it had to be worth it. Not all of it was. without a doubt the corned beef sandwich that comes half stuffed(7.89) or overstuffed(9.49) is worth it.There is a pile of moist corned beef on chewey rye bread to die for. Spicey brown or yellow mustard and with half a pickle.I also ordered a greek salad(7.49) that was hardly edible. THE TOMATOES WERE HALF BAD AND NOT EVEN CLOSE TO THE SUN RIPPENED THAT THE MENU PROMISED,THE ONIONS WERE SLIMEY.the cheese was a crumbly mess and dyed brown by the tastless olives.do not under any circumstances eat the dressing. I could not even tell what it was. I had to dispose of the salad and the dressing after a few bites. At 3.49 a cup the matzo ball soup was thin and watery. All in all I will go back for the sandwich and hope I will find other things that will make it worth the drive.
Review Source:Let me first begin by saying after growing up in the Chicago burbs, living in NYC for 8 years and marrying a NYC girl who grew up with THE 2nd Ave. Deli our hopes were not particularly high going into this "4.5 Star" Deli. Â But then again, how can 100+ reviewers be wrong? Â
Sorry fellow Yelpers! Â We really wanted to like this place, but Schmaltz left us so disappointed that it will be a struggle to go back.
I ordered a pastrami on marble rye with Russian. Â No big deal, right? Â They should crank these out in their sleep. Â What I experienced was two, nice, soft, marble rye slices (good) with a mound of what seemed to be bits and pieces (bad) of pastrami meat, not nice even whole thin slices. Â Maybe I'm being a bit too critical with my sandwich, but that's where the "good" ended. Â My wife ordered turkey on challah with lettuce and Russian. Â This is where it started to go downhill fast! Â She only had one small slice of DELI TURKEY MEAT surrounded by almost an ENTIRE head of lettuce. Â We actually joked that she could take 1/2 of the lettuce home and have a salad everyday for the rest of the week. Â By-the-way...Whatever happened to ordering a turkey sandwich and the turkey is FRESH TURKEY. You know, like it's leftovers from the Thanksgiving turkey..turkey.
To top off the entire lunch, it was a really cold day on Sunday. Â We wanted soup. Â What better soup to get at a Jewish Deli...Matzo Ball Soup (IMO). Â What we experienced was absolute blasphemy! Both of us cut into our 'balls' to find out they were FROZEN in the middle! Â Something tells me those balls weren't chillin' out in the cold weather either. Â Who in their right mind serves frozen Matzo Balls??!!!
While my wife and I realize certain foods in Chicago will not compare to NY Â just as certain foods in NY don't compare to Chicago, this wasn't up to par. Â I realize this is not a NYC Deli, but I've had my fair share of good, "warm" Jewish deli in Chicago too. (Kaufman's in Skokie, The Bagel on Broadway and The Bagel at Old Orchard, just to name a few.) Â
Just because an establishment sells "overstuffed" sandwiches doesn't make them worthy of 4 or 5 stars and in our first and probably last visit to Schmaltz in Naperville, my rating doesn't even deserve 1.
A legit deli. My family stopped by here to grab some bagels and I was impressed with the variety and authenticity.
I love that their sandwiches come double stuffed and you have to request half meat if you want less. Serious business.
If I was a local I would try to see what they could attempt to do for gluten free offerings. It's a shame to have such awesome food but no love for gluten free customers.
*Update* They are currently testing gluten free bread! Um awesome. Now I will have to make special trips to Naperville whenever I'm in Illinois. What a great surprise!
I haven't been to this place in awhile, but it's one of those sandwich places where every time I drive by it, I say to whoever the unfortunate soul sitting next to me in the car is, "Hey, I had the biggest sandwich of my life there one time. We should go eat there sometime soon, when we are really hungover but don't want to eat fried food." Unfortunately for me, the only food I ever want when I'm hungover is fried food, or McDonald's breakfast. So I don't always make it to Schmaltz. But I think after writing this review, I'm going to go there this weekend for a ginormous corned beef sando. Plus, the staff is super energetic, which is fantastic...but I'm not sure my hangover brain would react well to happy, high-energy people when I'm busy consoling my liver and hating the life choices I made the previous night.
Review Source:Another fan. Jewish deli, enuff said.
Like another reviewer stated, the atmosphere here is very down to earth and friendly. People wait in line looking at the flat screen TV menu and often make recommendations to each other.
And when you do get your order, figure out how you're going to fit that sandwich in by either stretching your mouth open like a whale or smushing it down as hard as u can. I've not had anything that was average. Every sandwich is huge, delicious, and uses quality meats. Even the wraps or turkey sandwiches are of note. The only time I order the oversized is when I want to eat the other half for dinner.
My only single complaint is that they don't include the bagel chips for carryouts...why not?!
So, I used to go here all the time when I worked out in Lisle, because this was on the way to work.
And delicious.
Big servings. apparently this isn't a real deli experience, but I still thought it was tasty. That said, I've never been to a New York Deli. While having been to New York many times I spent most of my times there at Italian restaurants. Eh.
So, I might not know what I'm talking about.
But I do know that I return when the food is tasty. I don't like to bring elitism into things and say it has to be "authentic this or that". I just want it to taste good and be a reasonable price. It delivered on both accounts. My husband even loved it and was able to eat half a sandwhich as an entire meal (unheard of). Come here if you like food.
Schmaltz has a great community feel right when you walk in the door. From the staff to the other patrons, people are very friendly and make recommendations to each other.
There are so many things on their menu, it'll take forever to try them all. Some things we've learned after a few visits - any sandwich with slaw is awesome, everything comes with bagel chips and quality meats, if you check in on four square you can get a free drink, don't order their non-specialty items like the salad because they are just standard, and if you're not feeling very hungry or in the mood to get your hands messy, you should probably find somewhere else to go :)
Schmaltz is def far better than any chain deli you'll find. I haven't tried many other mom 'n pop delis, so Schmaltz is at the top of my list.
So I am out of my comfort zone in the far reaches of Chicago in a shtetl called Naperville and come across this "jewish deli". Â Yes I know, "jewish deli" and "Naperville" are not exactly first cousins on the family tree. Â But hold the (Gold's) horseradish, tateleh, this place is the real deal! Â
The place: deli cases, refrigerated cases, and shelves lined with plenty of great little delicacies including the impossible-to-find-west-of-the-hudson rainbow cookies. Â Warm and inviting, especially the multicolored checked flooring with no-frills tables that you'd expect in a 1970's deli. Â Staff is incredibly friendly.
So I go old school on today's visit: Â Corned Beef and Chopped Liver on Rye with Deli Mustard. Â It came with a large half pickle and bagel chips. Â The pickle? Â MMMMMM!! Â Not that crappy "new" pickle that Chicagoans have been bred to enjoy. Â This is a bit more wiser and has a little punch to it. Â But those bagel chips....THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD! Â Worth the 35 mile trip alone! Â The sandwich was big. Â 10oz of meat and it was not expensive. Â The corned beef was sliced thin and it was juicy and wonderfully flavored. Â The chopped liver...well, lets just say that the only time I have chopped liver as incredible as this is at my mom's. Â
The menu is not that of a full scale restaurant, but that's ok, they keep their focus on what's important.
Their only flaw: they are 35 miles too far west of me. Â I'll be finding excuses to hitch the wagon train and head west a bit more often so I can get my fill of what I dare say, without hesitation, is the BEST JEWISH DELI IN CHICAGOLAND.
Naperthrill made it on Chicago's best  so had to check it out! Got the New Yorker... Had it similar at "Stand" in NYC, unfortunately nothing compares to an NYC Jewish deli!! (And it is not supposed to, lol)
Really though, good deal for a stuffed full sammie with bagel chips and pickle ($8)
Where I used to work they brought Schmaltz Deli lunch boxes in quite often and the food was always good. They have a good variety of different sandwitches and offerings so everyone could find something they like. I did not have to pay for it, so I cannot comment on pricing, but as far as quality goes, it is great.
Review Source:This is quite possibly the best deli I've ever been to. You just won't find many places that have the quality and portion size all rolled up into one sandwich.
The staff is friendly and every time I've been there I've had a few good laughs from jokes or comments they like to make. They are quick when making sandwiches and you won't be waiting long if you're hungry.
I came here on the recommendation of a colleague, and I am eternally grateful to him. Â I had the understuffed extra lean corned beef sandwich and a chicken matzo ball soup. Â I could only finish half the sandwich, and I almost cried when I realized I had left it in the rental car. Â It was AMAZING. Â Don't know when I'll make it to Naperville again, but if I'm anywhere close, I'll visit here.
Review Source:Terrific corned beef, nice and full of garlic. Â They stuff their sandwiches full of meat which is appreciated since you are paying $9 a sandwich. Â Pastrami is excellent also. Â Traditional deli atmosphere but they have a lot of seating on one side of the shop. Â They also have outdoor seating.
Review Source:Q: Ehhhhh....how do you say super radical in like every language?
A: Schmaltz!
I had the very good fortune to have my first visit here on a Friday (aka Free Cookie Day). I was a slack jawed doofus the entire visit; completely in awe of all of the awesomeness this small strip mall deli contained. Let's make a list:
- Sandwich: I ordered a half stuffed Reuben, which needless to say was still huge and soooo very good. I usually don't care much for rye, but the bread was really good and the meat, kraut, and Reuben sauce (Russian, Thousand Island, who knows!?!) made for a perfect combination of a heavenly sangwich.
- Sides: This is where is gets stupid awesome. Your sandwich comes with bagel chips, which are crunchy, salty, and sprinkled with parm or something like it. So good. You get a huge mofo dill pickle with it too. On Fridays, you also get a free cookie. I don't know if they give out the same cookie every Friday, but mine was awesome...I couldn't tell you what was in it (sprinkles, chocolate chips, butterscotch, etc. etc. etc) but there were like 20 ingredients and it was great. To top everything off, there was a girl walking around the restaurant giving out free slices of cheesecake. WHAT. Pillowy, sweet, mind blowing cheesecake.
- Atmosphere: Super casual, and you can tell it's family owned. The staff was really friendly, and I think some manager/owner type was also there because he came by and asked how our meal was. Usually this annoys me at restaurants, but this guy seemed genuinely interested and really nice. Like, we chatted and he thanked us for coming to the restaurant.
Do you want to visit yet? I want to go back right now.
Schmaltz's is a great jewish deli! Sandwiches are always fresh and piled high with flavorful tasty meats. Every super stuffed yummy sandwich is always served with cripsy bagel chips and an awesome generous sliced pickle. My family and I have tried numerous combinations and have never been dissapointed with the food, service or the super friendly staff :)
They also always have a freebie when you check in via yelp.
In my initial visit to Schmaltz Deli I tried the Chicago style hot dog. Without recapping my entire initial review I'll just say that I found the Chicago style hot dogs here to be nontraditional but not bad, and it was clear this wasn't an emphasis of Schmaltz Deli. After my initial visit and review it was suggested that I make my way back again to try out another sandwich that contains a hot dog called the Maccabeast. As time has passed I eventually decided to make my return trip to Naperville today and find out if this sandwich is a Macca-Beauty or a Macca-Beast (yes, I have no shame whatsoever using that line).
I went to the counter and ordered the sandwich, it was ready quite quickly and I soon had it in my hands. The sandwich came on a break roll with pastramai, horseradish mustard of some variation, and in the middle was a schmaltz all beef hot dog. There was also a very large pickle off to the side on the tray. I decided to try the sandwich sans pickle and here are my results. The pastrami had a nice flavor to it, it wasn't too chewy or too rough and had just the right texture. The hot dog sausage itself was excellent and has a nice smokey flavor to it. The mustard was a nice compliment to both the pastrami and the hot dog. The biggest problem I had with the sandwich was the bread. I found it diffcult to eat without the bread falling apart which created a bit of a sloppy mess. The bread itself tasted good but isn't as soft of a texture as I like for sandwiches.
Overall I liked the Maccabeast more than their Chicago Style hot dog. It was a solid sandwich even if the type of bread used isn't exactly my cup of tea. If you're looking for an interesting sandwich or an interesting way to serve a hot dog, it's certainly worth stopping by.
I got a Reuben here a few months ago, and I think it's probably still in the process of being digested. Â It was huge.
Not being a place that seems to emphasize quantity over quality, however, it was one of the best reubens I have ever had in my life.
Real-deal deli, high-quality ingredients and cuts, mom & pop feel. Â Support this establishment!
Perfect place to eat before the gf takes me on at least 2-3 hour long treks at the Chicago Premium Outlet.
Had the reuben with corned beef and pastrami and it was very good. Not as good as Chicago greats, but very good. Also had the hot dog special they were doing at the time.
I don't eat meat very often anymore, but i'm glad I made an exception with Schmaltz.
I don't think there is much I can say that others have not said yet. Â But the food I've had here was just delicious. Â I've had the Sloppy Paul, which was tasty. Â I've also had the Maccabeast - which was good, but I don't like spicy mustard - so probably wasn't the best idea for me. Â But that's my preference - aside from that, the hot dog and pastrami combo is incredibly appetizing. Â We've made trips out to Naperville from Elgin just to go to this place - and that won't stop anytime soon. Â It's worth it!
PS - We made the drive there once and got in line only to be told that they ran out of all meats. Â That was so disappointing - hopefully doesn't happen often.
First visit of many ....the suburbs are littered with chain restaurants. Â So much so, it is hard to see past them! Â Beyond the Fridays, Chipotle and Buona Beef, you will find the best sandwich of your life at Schmaltz! Â I cam for the overstuffed pastrami, but have been back for their corned beef and breakfast.
Mmmmmm!
I heard about this place from that one article of the Top sandwiches in the Chicagoland area...so I had to try the Big Al. I have lived nearby this place my whole life but never bothered to step inside and I am now kicking myself in the butt. The Big Al was soooo good. They give you nice and thick slices of salami, topped with caramelized onions and spicy mustard. If only salami were healthy for you, I would be here everyday. No joke.
I will return to eat here again...a lot of other things on the menu sound tasty but The Big Al is the item on the menu that I will need to think long and hard about before trying something else....I probably won't be able to try anything else it's that good..
Even a half of a sandwich here is HUGE! Â I think I had more meat in my half of a Sloppy Paul (similar to a Reuben) than a person should have in 3 days! Â It was mighty tasty, too. Â
This place gets hopping at lunch time so if you've never come here before I recommend you look at their menu ahead of time online so you know what you want. Â The staff is quick and since they are busy they are perhaps a bit short on patience for newbies who are a bit clueless.
And don't just grab a couple of napkins...if you eat outside grab an entire napkin holder because you are going to need it!
Ordered the Oy Vey (Create your own). I wanted a fruit cup on the side as well, but I wasn't aware of that until after my order.
Anyways, the place was very "Jewish Deli-Like," or at least what I would believe to be a Jewish Deli (My First one... you always remember your first one).
It was a saturday afternoon around 1 PM, so it was a little busy. I wanted multigrain bread, and got tomato basil. I let the sandwich makers know, but they still messed it up. However, it was corrected, and I also got to keep the other sandwich, so that's a plus.
I first purchased the marinated mushrooms, since that was the only thing that enticed me (no soup... way too hot for me) i ordered them. The staff was accomodating when I changed my  mind and wanted the fruit cup, even though it wasn't listed on menu. I discovered it in the sneeze guarded display, but only after my order.
The sandwich was pretty good, but nothing AMAZING. My total was 10.25 for the sandwich and side (water to drink).
I'll go back because it's a cool atmosphere, and I want to try the desserts (cookies... yum)
I love a great sandwich, and while in the Naperville area, I had to give this hidden strip mall location, Schmaltz Deli a try!
I am always a pain in the ass and rather than order anything off the menu like the Big Al, Old New Yorker, or the Boston Common, I went with the OY VEY (Jewish Deli mind you). I loved that they had marble, seeded, and dark rye, of which I chose the latter. I loaded up my turkey pastrami with myriad vegetables and got spicy mustard on the side. I wanted to take one star off since they added the spicy mustard on the sandwich, but I couldn't! It was fine because I turned out loving it!
My brother also got an Oy Vey, but they gave him the basil tomato pesto bread rather than the multigrain. I noticed this and pointed it out to him and they made him a new sandwich...plus he got to keep the "screw up", if you will.
Also interesting, I ran into one of my former students here...a deserving "Oy Vey" on that!
I also ordered a cup of chicken noodle soup and my brother got the marinated mushrooms, and changed his mind and got the fruit cup.
Loud, quick, and ready to serve up OVERSTUFFED sandwiches, Schmaltz Deli gets it right! The yelling made me feel like I was right at home. I am German, Italian, and Scotch Irish, so I was in the minority since there were many Jewish customers and workers. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Those desserts (when I go back) look so great even Hitler, Mussolini, and Mel Gibson would try this place.
Update- I went back to get a sandwich and I got a friggin sandwich. Ordered the Bronx and blue and I cannot believe how ridiculous their sandwiches are in every aspect. Ridiculously fresh, huge (even for half stuffed!), delicious, seasoned and fast. I love you schmaltz.
4/12/12 I don't really know how to go about with the dilemma I had today with schmaltz.
The place is awesome. It's lively and you just feel welcomed when you walk in. Everyone is joking, yelling and running around. I love the craziness! I also love sandwiches. So this would be my paradise, right????
Well I didn't choose a sandwich. I got the Israeli salad. The salad consists of lettuce, Israeli salad, hummus, smoked salmon and a pita. I thought the salmon would be more cooked! I don't like raw food but technically it wasn't raw. I didn't know what smoked salmon was so that was my bad. I handed the slimy salmon out to my co workers and ate the rest of the salad. There was too much lettuce and it wasn't as fresh as I would expect it to be. The pita was awesome and the hummus was delicious too. But this was my mistake and I shouldn't take it out on schamltz.
I will be back, I will get a sandwich like normal people and Schmaltz and I will be happily full forever.
This is my go to place for a great sandwich.
All of the yummy sandwiches are great . I should know I've ate my way thru over half the choices. From the delicious Sloppy Paul Reuben to the New Yorker to the newly added French Dip which still isn't even on the menu. They all are delicious perfection.
All sandwiches come with fresh bagel chips and a half of a pickle. Today in honor of Passover they offer chocolate covered matzo and cashew brittle it was delicious.
Make sure you get a pickle punch card after ten punches you earn a free sandwich. Tuesdays, are double punch and Thursdays are triple and don't forget free cookie Friday you get a free delicious chocolate delight.
This place was recently on Chicago's Best for deli's and very deserved indeed. If you haven't been here yet get your caboose in there today . You won't be disappointed I guarantee !!
I really love this deli and I LOVE the Big Al! Â Al, I love you too.
I have been lucky enough to eat here twice. Â The first time was with my college roommate, who was kind enough to meet me here because I was trying to eat my way through the 30 best sandwiches list. Â The Big Al was the chosen sandwich, that was the sandwich I ordered. Â What a delicious sandwich. Â Luckily I ordered the half-stuffed, it was one ginormous sandwich.
The Big Al is grilled salami , sliced length wise, topped with caramelized onions, spicy mustard served on a hero roll. Â Delicious!! Â I have never been a fan of salami, but after eating this sandwich I've become a big fan.
The deli is busy, the employees taking the orders are very nice and so patient. Both times I came I forgot to order a rugelach. Dang. Â Guess that means I have to come back. Â The black & white cookies looked wonderful.
Schmaltz offers the appeal of an authentic New York Jewish Deli in suburban Naperville! They have friendly staff who will shout out your orders, plenty of menu options, and giant portions! I work right down the strip mall from them and have never been disappointed with anything!
Since I'm not the hugest fan of corned beef or pastrami (unless it's St. Patrick's Day!), I tend to get the other sandwiches. My favorites are the Sasa Tuna Wrap, the Canal St. Caprese, and I enjoy their Deli Double Chicago Hot Dogs too. If you can dine in, please try to, because then they give you a side of homemade bagel chips which are divine :)
Bonus- they also have cookies!
I've been a huge fan of this place since the first time I walked in, and I honestly don't know why I haven't written about it before now. Â We even had them cater our pre-wedding luncheon. Â Trust me, if you've got a bunch of people getting into tuxes, this place even does catering right. Â
The food is always amazing. Â Finding a better pastrami or corned beef sandwich out here is difficult, but I've had the chili and a knish, even dessert, and have never felt disappointed. Â
We went yesterday, on st. patrick's day, during the lunch rush. Â Obviously this place would be busy on any saturday at noon, but we were obviously not the only ones who thought, "st patty's? corned beef? yup, schmaltz's it is..." Â The food was as it always is, which is not why I'm writing this. Â I was more impressed with how the staff handled the rush. Â three cashiers working, staff giving out paper menus to people who were wrapped around the corner and couldn't see the menu, more staff giving out stickers and free cookies, the guy slicing all the meats was working his ass off, then a couple people making sure the orders went out correctly. Â Normally when we go out with 6 adults and a toddler, something gets mucked up. Â This place handled it beautifully. Â Even had my sandwich been bad, I'd still give them another chance after yesterday. Â
Go here. Â Bring friends. Â You won't let them down.
Been eating here since BEFORE they opened. Yes, you read that correctly. I walked in before they opened as they were building the place and have never (in my heart) left. They even have my picture on the wall.
This place is the real deal. If you are craving a real NYC deli style sandwich, why have you not made the trip to Naperville to get it. Forget Skokie, forget the Loop, this is the place to go to when you have to have it done right.
If I don't eat here at least 4 or 5 times a month I start to have withdrawal pains that only their matzoh ball soup and corned beef stuffed sandwich can satisfy. Oh, I almost forgot to mention their chopped liver, pastrami, brisket, bagels, chips, pickles and cookies (free samples on Fridays).
Mouth watering yet? What are you waiting for?
Finding a good corned beef sandwich in the suburbs is a difficult task. They're either chewy, un-flavorful or downright nasty. I'm picky when it comes to my sandwiches. So when someone mentions they have the perfect corned beef, I kinda go meh.
But that's completely not the case with Schmaltz. Only working up the street, I'm kicking myself for not getting lunch here sooner. I was a little put off by the price but for $9, the sandwich is definitely worth it. I ordered a Sloppy Paul which is basically a Reuben sandwich. It was humongous, I kid you not! Perfectly flavored as well. It almost brought a tear to my eye. I think I've found my corned beef nirvana.
I'm ashamed Schmaltz that I didn't discover you sooner. But rest assure, I will be back to tackle on another sandwich.
Today was my first experience after being told repeatedly how wonderful this place was. My husband has been three times since I told him about the place-- and I hadn't even been there yet!
There's really nothing else like it in the 'burbs. Aside from the wannabe Jewish Deli, Jason's, this is the real-deal authentico joint. It screams excellent, Jewish, and for sure New York City deliciousness.
Nearly every person was eating a pastrami on marble rye. Marble rye. Every single time I think of Seinfeld. I personally love the bread. Mmm. They make their own and there are even deli cases and freezer foods in addition to expensive, yet freshly baked breads to be bought.
Sandwiches are served with bagel chips (that are amazing and fatty goodness) and a half LARGE pickle. So tasty, people. SO tasty. My sandwich came with honey mustard which I usually hate, but I didn't want to change things too much for my first experience. Let's just say it was slightly sweet but mostly giving me a clearout with the amount of horseradish they put in that sauce! I of course loved it as spicy is my middle name.
Run, don't walk. You won't be disappointed.
Also, between 5-7 every weekday, they have over-stuffed sandwiches for the half-stuffed price. And... they have punchcards for every sandwich you get to earn more and some days offer free cookies with sandwich purchase (Friday) and extra punches on certain days, too!
When a craving hits you for corned beef, what is one to do? Â Head for a deli, that's what.
Hopefully this craving hits you at a slightly  "off"  time which will provide you an opportunity to study the menu.  Sandwiches named for people, which reveals a great deal about their cravings.
So, then you might wonder, what does  "overstuffed"  vs. "half stuffed" mean.  Overstuffed is 9 ounces of meat vs 7 ounces.  That should satisfy your craving.  Some served with kraut or cole slaw, and a generous half pickle.
No wonder people are smiling when they walk out.
This deliciousness is available 7 days a week ~ no excuses!
