Best breakfast burritos this side of Downtown. I've tried....a lot.
The guys that run it are very nice - and the burritos are fresh and delicious.
Word of advice -- go with the mild salsa....the hot will burn your face off (unless you like that sort of thing)...and I LOVE hot.
Also, if you pick one up - please pick one up for me.....I'll be your best friend.
These guys are SLOW, but it's worth the wait. $5.50 for a Doner Kabob that's moist and flavorful, not the same old dried out product most places offer? I had the chicken Doner Kabob, and we all know how rare it is to find moist chicken in a Doner Kabob, Gyro, or Shawarma. These guys do it with a smile. I'll be back for sure, to try the Beef/Lamb.
Review Source:Shondiz iz the shiz. Â A cart so small the guy inside can't turn around. Â But that is no impediment to cooking up some righteous grub. Â The Falafel sandwich was great and a bargain in price as well. Â I would suggest trying this food cart on the 16th street mall to anyone with a hankering for middle eastern food. Â Well done Shondiz!
Review Source:A successful food truck experience! Two in our party had the falafel sandwich and one had a chicken shawarma sandwich. Â We all agreed that is was tasty good and generous portion for the money. Falafel was $4.75 and chicken was $5.50. They made the falafel to order, and that delayed the start of our lunch a bit. Owned by two bothers, one brother took our order, gave us a number (liked that system) and took payment, the other put together our lunches. The music from the kiosk is loud, but as one member of our party yelled, "Makes me feel like I'm on vacation!"
Review Source:My curiosity finally broke down and got the better of me. Â Now I see why there is always a throng of people. Â So far, I've only had the salad with chicken. Â I would try the other stuff but I CRAVE this salad and it keeps me full until dinner time. Â Unbelievable. Â I will try the other menu items eventually but until then, it's chicken salad for me.
I am adding Shondiz to my rotation of go-to places for lunch downtown.
I felt like I was walking up to a dance party cart rather than a food cart when I came for lunch here. They BLAST their music. Maybe to get attention? It worked in my case!
I got the doner kebab plate. I wasn't crazy about the meat, but everything else was fantastic. He fried the falafel balls right in front of me and they came out perfect.
I like this place and will be back on some of my less healthy days!
Shondiz, you have finally made my life complete. Ever since leaving Europe I've been craving a good Döner and haven't even come close. I haven't found anything this authentic since being in Istanbul or even Germany! The guys are super friendly too. One day my friend and I got there just after they closed so they actually gave us a coupon for a free sandwich each next time we came. It's amazing how such a little stand can create such a big buzz. They get a lunchtime crowd at least 20 people deep and somehow manage to coordinate everyone's orders flawlessly. I'll definitely be stopping by plenty more times.
Review Source:Wow, everyone is right about these guys. Some of the best service I have received at ANY establishment!
Food was pretty good and tasted authentic to me. We got the breakfast burritos two days in a row during our stay (FYI they're $3.00 now instead of $2.50) and then the doner kabob once, and the doner plate once also. Very reasonably priced and MUCH QUICKER service than the Thai cart lady down the street.
If you're in downtown Denver, you need to visit these guys!!
I tried both the falafel ($4.75) and shwarma ($5.75) sandwiches and loved both. Â The sandwiches were large and made to order. Â The guys working the stand were super friendly, and the frequent diner card where you get the tenth sandwich free is very nice and will ensure I'll be back many times. Â They don't set up shop sometimes when its really cold, which is understandable. Â My suggestion is to take the sandwich back to the Republic Plaza food court if you don't want to eat in your office. Â You can also get some fries and a free water there to complete your meal.
Review Source:What I had? Â Doner Kebab with side of Falafel
Food review: Â I had a friend who's always raved about how good Doner Kebabs are when he was in Germany. Â So I've had this place on my list for a while and finally managed to make my way over there this week. Â Anyway, I was really glad I did so. Â The doner kebab sandwich was packed with flavor and seemed even a little (just a little :-) Â ) healthy since it was packed with all sorts of veggies. Â It could have used maybe a little more tzatziki and hot sauce because of that fact but overall it was a really tasty sandwich. Â The falafel was a nice touch to an already good sandwich.
Service? Â Friendly
I was SO excited when I found out that I could get a Döner Kebab in Denver. I lived in Germany back in the mid 90s and loved having fresh döner mit schafkäse. It hit the spot, especially after a late night of partying like a 20 year old (which I was at the time!) These döner kebabs at Shondiz were quite awesome, even though I'm not in my 20s anymore and it was the middle of the day. Ok, so maybe this WAS the first döner I had while sober. Anyway, I got mine with feta, which was great. The bread was really fresh and the meat was moist and well spiced. I would maybe ask for extra onions and more spicy sauce next time, but that's just the way I like 'em!
Come on down to 16th & Glenarm, and grab a döner to go. The stand is run by two friendly Iranian brothers, and they are worth getting to know! One speaks German also... they take pride in their cuisine and customer service, and it shows.
Working through lunch? You can call ahead at (303) 351-4492 and order, and they will have your lunch waiting for you - you can drive across 16th on Glenarm, and they'll bring it to your car! Awesome service. They have a little space heater you can stand by on cold days while you wait.
Go get one on any weekday. We hope they start limited service on Saturdays, because that's the day we're most often in downtown Denver. We will go back SOON. A döner a day keeps the hungries away!
Shondiz joins the ranks of the thai food cart lady and biker jim in the upper echelon of food options on the 16th street mall.
My first introduction to Shondiz was as I drove by Glenarm on the mallride on my way to work. What perked my interest? I saw a credit card sign on the cart. This must mean they have a legit operation going on. It's breakfast time.
On a cold morning, a hot burrito is a great idea. Shondiz has a number of options available and, as an added benefit, they have a space heater nearby to keep you warm while you wait for your food. The burritos are $3.00 for veggie, bacon, or sausage. Steak is going to run you an extra 25 cents. So far, I've tried all three, with either the mild green chile or a spicier red chile. The burritos are quite large, so you're going to be full. On top of all this, the two guys that run Shondiz are super nice. Always a smile on their face, even if it is freezing cold outside.
Lunch is a whole 'nother treat. I tried Shondiz for lunch for the first time on Friday, and I was unsurprised at its tastiness after enjoying their breakfast burrito options. Again, you have a number of options: doner kebab, shwarma, dolma, felafel. I went with the shwarma, which unlike the doner kebab, has hummus in the pita. I went with the lamb/beef mix over the chicken. Full of flavor and not to dry, this shwarma reminded me of being back in Europe and enjoying the middle eastern diaspora over the continent. The kebab truck is one I wish was more prevalent within the food truck movement. But, luckily, we have Shondiz to fill that niche here in Denver, and boy do they fill it well.
Next step? Convince some coworkers to come try it out with me.
New favorite food alert! I can't believe I work less than a block from this food cart and have only just tried it today. Such a shame. I had a delicious doner kabob for $4.50 and three yummy falafels for $1.50. What a fanfreakingtastic meal! It was a lot of food and I inhaled all of it. Their spicy sauce is perfectly medium hot (can add more from the bottle if you need to), the veggies were fresh and crisp and pita warm and soft. I also sampled a bite of hummus on pita and it was smooth, creamy and wonderful. There was a bit of a wait which surprised me at 1pm, but it was worth it. Two friendly guys work this cart and I will be back to give them my lunch money. I'll be ordering the falafel sandwich for $3.50. They also have breakfast burritos in multiple varieties including vegetarian for just $2.50 AND a punch card for frequent purchases. They even take credit cards including the elusive AMEX. Win win win in my book!
Review Source:This little cart is a gem. Â Breakfast burritos are $2.50 which is unheard of downtown, and they are delicious! Â They occasionally give free samples which makes you want to come back for lunch. Â The main guy working there is super nice and very attentive. Â Love this spot! Â Get there!
Review Source:This is a dang good breakfast burrito. Tell you what.
The men running this joint are nice as can be and have a pretty solid operation going for the amount of business they do.
The falafel was very tasty, but three stars because it did something nightmarish to my stomach. Wondering if maybe something in my falafel sandwich came in contact with something that came in contact with meat? It's a tiny cart, seems possible.
Vegetarian breakfast burritos are just $2.50 and my falafel sandwich was something like $3.50, so it's a good deal. I will return and try the falafel again, just to be sure that was the culprit.
I love Mediterranean food like a dog loves bacon and the Shwarma sandwich for $4.50 can't be beat for a filling, fresh lunch. I have their menu and a frequent luncher card tacked to my cube for frequent visits.
$1.50 for three falafel
$1.00 scoop of hummus
$2.50 burritos
And, there was no 40-minute wait when I went! Thai-shmai, it's all about the Shondiz.
This place is awesome. Â I am so happy to have them there and I hope they never go away. Â Today I'm eating light, dolmas and falafels. Â The dolmas are very fresh, the falafels I suspect are pre-made/frozen, but they are good nevertheless. Â I agree the two men manning the shop are excellent in customer service. Â I will go back and back again.
Review Source:This place is good, really good. Â Like some of the previous yelpers, I, too, had been looking for a Doner Kebab ever since my backpacking trip in Europe about 5 years ago. Wandering the streets of Budapest, Prague, and Paris looking for cheap eats, I found lots of little Doner Kebab shops with their beautiful meats slowly rotating in front of the vertical cooker. Â The aroma was intoxicating, unfortunately, I had not been able to find a place remotely close to those European shops back here in the States until I was in Denver attending a conference at the Convention Center. Â I was drawn to this little street stand like a moth to light in the middle of hot summer day as soon as I saw the glistening rotating meat! All for just $6.50! Â
This kebab is definitely legit and comparable to those in Europe. Â Their chilli hot sauce was absolutely amazing as was their tzatziki sauce. My only regret is that I probably will not be back in Downtown Denver for awhile since I'm on the east coast. Â Sigh!
I have visited this Mediterranean cart dozens of times over the past few months. Â The gentleman working inside the cart, along with the occasional gentleman working outside the cart, are always super friendly and conversational. Â Since I get into work early, it's always refreshing to see them all set up and ready to go before I head into the office. Â Within minutes, I have my bacon breakfast burrito fresh, piping hot and ready to eat when I settle in at my desk.
I love street/cart food, so I am very thankful for these guys being so super close to my office. Â For $2.50, I can stuff my face with tons of bacon, egg, cheese and green chili at 8:00am and be set until early afternoon.
At any given moment, you might see two or 30 people standing in line to snag something delicious from this guy's cart. Â If that isn't an indication of how great this place is, then I don't know what the hell to tell you.
I had a short conversation with the "chef" about a week ago regarding opening a permanent location. Â He said he's working on it, but he doesn't want to raise his prices because so many people have become dependent on his delicious and inexpensive meals.. so he'll just have to wait longer. Â This guy is, and always has been, all about his customers and I plan to continue visiting him often.
This cart actually has a name??
I've ordered from this little stand twice and never noticed the name but I will give them a good review because the food is pretty good and nicely priced on a budget. Fast, Inexpensive, and relatively healthy. I ate dönors in Germany all the time and have always been a fan of Mediterranean type food since then. Eating from these guys brings back the yummy flavors I so miss.
To sum it up - you can't go wrong!
I ordered the Doner meal and it was really good. Â The meat was very tasty and had excellent flavoring from the lamb. Â I liked the falafels, not soggy and tasted great dipped in hotsauce and tzatziki sauce. Â Very reasonable price and the owners were friendly and helpful with the descriptions.
Review Source:I've been looking for a Doner kebab since my return from Australia in 2001 - I found it!
I ended up ordering the chicken shwarma and getting it into a tortilla trying to mimic Sydney-style late night kebaberies. The shwarma was tasty and had all the proper kebab fixins'. Next time I'm going to try the lamb and make it a true Doner!
The two guys working could not have been friendlier. Very pleasant and didn't make me feel like a dork for trying to Australianize my kebab, lol.
I agree with Jenna that the rose water lemonade tastes like hippies. I'm sure some people will love it :)
Excellent pricing. Great place to stop for a quick lunch downtown.
Can't wait to stop by Shondiz again!
15 years ago I had a Doner Kebab in France. Â Here in Denver, I have been searching for any place that makes Doner Kebabs. Â Finally someone has brought them to Denver!
Service is fast, pleasant and the food is excellent! Â The price is reasonable given the prices of food downtown.
Try getting the hot sauce on them and add a little Ranch to the Kebabs. Â It's excellent!
Two of my coworkers and I tried the beef and lamb as well as the chicken Kebabs, and both tasted great. Â These aren't gyros. Â I don't like those nearly as much. Â Too much lamb. Â This meat is thinly sliced and spiced wonderfully. Â
As for the rosewater lemonade, it's a great unique feature. Â I suspect people will either love it or hate it but it's a unique flavor and worth sampling. Â
When you're waiting, watch out for the mall bus! Â It gets close to the food line.
I'm still just thrilled I can finally get a Doner Kebab in Denver! Â Try it out people!
I've known my friend and coworker for 3 years exactly and since day one, I have known that her favorite food in the whole entire world is Doner Kebab from when she ate it in Australia almost 10 years ago.
After searching for over a year or so and posting a yelp talk about finding said meal, I was so excited when I received a message from Mark T. saying that if my friend and I were still interested to check out Shondiz on the 16th Street Mall.
She's had the Australia version of the Doner so we each got the chicken with all the dressings (purple cabbage, chili sauce, lettuce tomato, tzatziki sauce) and onions, of course. Except we got ours in what reminds me of a tortilla or laffa. We also got an order of falafel, a can of pop and a Mediterranean lemonade, all for about $12.00!
We sat in the sun on the 16th street mall and devoured the deliciousness in front of us.
I wasn't so much a fan of the Mediterranean "rose water" lemonade. It sorta tasted like I was drinking incense but it definitely could be for some people! Next time we'll get the lamb right off the spit which looked so delicious and I'll ask for extra tomatoes.
Shondiz totally deserves 5 stars because it was relatively quick for such a small cart. The two guys working, one cooking the other greeting and taking money, were extremely nice! They take credit card but there wasn't a spot to tip, so make you sure you take some cash or change. They definitely deserve it. It's located right in front of Hard Rock. They sell breakfast burritos all day!
Pictures coming soon!
Got the steak and cheese breakfast burrito (minus cheese due to personal pref.) a couple times here. Â AMAZING. Â Don't expect a "traditional" Mexican breakfast burrito, as the flavor profile is definitely Med-influenced, but the red sauce still provides a flavorful kick. Â I enjoyed the steak much more than the typical ground beef/chorizo offerings in most breakfast burritos. Â And it's grilled in front of you, so you don't have to wonder how long the burrito you're holding has been sitting in a cooler. Â Add some grilled onions and homemade green chile into the mix, and you, my friend, are holding a culinary treat hugged in foil.
Review Source:Shondiz is awesome. I happened upon this cart as I was meandering around 16th Street Mall trying to find something to eat. The guys that run the cart are very friendly, which is what initially inspired me to try it. I also love doner kebab, so it wasn't a tough decision to give it a shot. I ordered one doner kebab and one shwarma. The sandwiches are BIG and DELICIOUS! And at less than $5, they're a great value. Shondiz is the perfect combination of uniqueness, flavor, value, and friendliness. And they take credit cards, which is convenient. I have exactly zero negative things to say about this cart! Try it and you'll agree.
Review Source:Shondiz has phenomenal Mediterranean food, and even better service. Â They, hands down, have the best doner kebab I've ever had. Â I recommend topping it off with a side of falafel and a rose water lemonade. Â
The Shondiz food cart is located on the 16th Street Mall at Glenarm. Â It's a great value, quick service, and the cart's owners will brighten your day with their kindness and generosity. Â They have a punch card for frequent customers such as myself along with other promotions, and they even let me know that you can call in your order ahead of time for pickup so you don't have to spend time out in the cold. Â
Give them a try and you won't regret it. Â As an added bonus, they'll let you sample just about everything on their menu before you order! Â Shondiz is a great find and has quickly become a lunchtime staple for me and my friends.
This is the best Mediterranean food that I have had in Denver. To make it even better, they have the best service I have gotten in a VERY long time. They will let you sample anything that you would like to and always give you a falafel while you are waiting for your order to be prepared.
I stumbled upon this cart while I was going to get a salad from Cook's Fresh Market. I was enticed with all of the sampling they were offering me. After trying their meat and hummus just that one time I was hooked. Â I have been back 2 times a week since then. I am on a first name basis with the wonderful owners and find myself craving it Doner Kebobs over the weekend.
Seriously, this is a MUST try food cart. It is on 16th and Glenarm right outside of Cook's Fresh Market.
So, I was strolling the mall and I happened on Shondiz per the recommendation of one of my co-workers. Â As I approached the food cart, the guy inside asked if I wanted a sample their meat. Â While I usually have a standing response for guys who ask me such things, I simply smiled, said "sure," and then grabbed the offering from between the tongs he presented before my face.
I fully anticipated that this would be just like any gyro that I had tasted, but, lo, was I ever mistaken.  The meat was moist and quite flavorful, so I immediately asked for the Döner kebab sandwich. Â
Apparently, Döner kebab is a traditional Turkish sandwich that is readily found at street vendors. (WiseGeek[dot]com, 2010)  The sandwich looked like a gyro: freshly grilled meat, thinly sliced from the spit and splayed out onto a slice of pita bread.  it is then adorned with lettuce, tzatziki sauce, pickled red cabbage, and sliced tomatoes.
In less than 5 minutes after walking away from the stand, I had inhaled my sandwich, and I really wasn't that hungry, but it was OH SO GOOD!!!
I then washed my meal down with the Mediterranean lemonade I had purchased from the cart as well. Â It is lemonade that's made with ROSE WATER!!!! OMG!!! Â I completely felt as if I were at the Aveda Spa as I slurped down my beverage.
And all this for $5. Yep, that's right! Â And it's well worth it!!!!!
