After an evening filled with mixed drinks (ghetto Sonic), Dirty Dianas (CoffeeCakeKC), Â PB&J Pourovers (Oddly Correct), and Gyros (random Westport food truck), my friends and I needed somewhere to sit back and relax for awhile. I suggested we check out Sinbad's and it turned out to be an excellent decision (yay me).
My friends choose Mango as our flavor and I had them add Guava, too. There's a set price for a 2 person Hookah and it's 3 dollars extra for each addition person. The inside was packed, so we took our number to the spacious back patio to enjoy the cool, Spring air.
We stayed for about an hour and they even found us a space inside when it got a bit too chilly outside.
Besides the beautiful weather and the tasty flavor combination, the customer service at Sinbad's was an added bonus to the experience. They stop by a lot to check on you, but it's never intrusive. They were kind and helpful and always had fresh coals. On more than one occasion, we took a moment to discuss how nice these employees were to us.
Sinbad's has moved up in my book. If I hadn't already had ridiculous amounts of coffee that evening, I would had ordered their Turkish coffee.
I first checked out Sinbad's on yelp and decided to go based on the reviews(thanks yelpers). I had been to one hookah place in KC that I didn't really care for and decided to try something new.
The staff greeted me when i walked in and explained their hookah process. I wasn't sure on which flavor to choose, so I let the employee pick. The flavor was pretty good and the hookah lasted a good length.
The owner also offered me a free cup of hot tea, which was delicious. Sinbad interacts with the guests, which gives it a more welcoming feel. They also have music as well and Sinbad plays the piano sometimes.
Good place to go for hookah and tea and I will be going back. Oh yea, they also have free wifi.
All the cute/hot people in Kansas City apparently hang out here. I felt like I was in an A&F ad here. Even the workers. The workers were cool too. Since Missouri has much better alcohol laws than Kansas, we had some local sage wisdom on where to find some of uncle's cough syrup nearby thanks to the helpful coal guy.
Open relatively late. In Westport so it is the cool part of town.
Grape mint for one and Cola for the other hookah. Strict two person to a hookah rule. Bathrooms clean but single only so you might need to wait a bit.
This is a really chill, laid back atmosphere to hang out and smoke. And talk with some locals if you are a traveler. Broad mix of ages from 18 (?) to people more obviously in their 30s.
Big fan of the place and their flavor mixes. I would happily return, and hopefully be able to hit Beer Kitchen as well.
I'm mostly standing by my previous review, but have upgraded Sinbad's to 4 stars. Why? For starters, I haven't been to any other hookah bar in KC since (Granted, I don't go often... probably every few months). I was a little unsure at first, but it all comes back to what you go to a hookah bar for. Um, HOOKAH. And Sinbad's has the best one I've had in the city, hands down.
As I said before, the Sinbad's hookah, smoked through a cored apple as the bowl, makes the tobacco taste fresher and cleaner. If you're putting cancerous chemicals into your body, it might as well taste like candy. Also, they keep their hookahs clean, they don't charge a $10 membership fee like Jerusalem Cafe, and they stay open late (midnight on weekdays, 2 am on weekends, I think).
If you aren't feeling festive and want something intimate, that's what Sinbad's lacks. The place has been packed every time I've been here, and the owner (who is super nice) plays traditional dance music much of the time. It's got a very communal vibe, which I've come to respect much more than shy away from over the time I've been going here.
KC has just barely begun to crack into the hookah scene; previously Jerusalem Cafe and Aladdin's (previously Rumi) Cafe were the only other easily accessible places to get a smoke. Â
Sinbad's was the first dedicated hookah bar, and I like what they've done. Â The interior is very open, and on most weekend nights they have live Arab music with a lively crowd as well. Â Plenty of flavors, good quality sheesha. Â As with all hookah, you have to know what flavors you like and their strength to get what you're looking for.
Moderately priced, it's obviously going to be cheaper to smoke at home. Â For a group or to unwind, it's a great place to hang out.
much better customer service. i had a GREAT experience at sinbad's on my recent visit. and the owner is amazing. i went with a group who had never done hookah before. somehow they managed to knock the hookah over twice, which is a big deal and the owner and staff were very professional and patient with us. i can't wait to go back. good things are happening at sinbad's and it always has a nice crowd
