Great buffet from someone who hates buffets. Great variety polish food. Corned beef was amazing.

Solid polish dinners.  Cheap weekend breakfast buffet with standard offerings and an omelet and crepe station.  They also do a bang-up job with catering.  I know during Notre Dame football, their catering is quite popular.

This weekend the Skillet expanded their buffet to include other European dishes. It was REAL Hungarian goulash (not the macaroni, the soup kind), REAL homemade Swedish meatballs that were seasoned wonderfully, and most of all potato pancakes that were hand made and tasted like they were made by my very own Babcia!  The German potato salad was excellent, as were the perogi. The Shepherd's pie was yummy, as was the chicken Paprikash.  We've been fans of the Polish Buffet, but these additions made this a special treat.   Their food is homemade, not from boxes/large cans.   I have not found another food place in the area (and we eat out daily) that makes HOMEMADE PIES... yes, crusts AND filling.  NOT from a mix filling!!!
This place is a bargain for real comfort food.

Just fine if you'd like to experience the generic "polish" dinner, but haven't been invited to a wedding or banquet.

Nothing at this place really stands out.  The selection is limited, low quality, and prepared in institutional quantities.  Alarmingly, there are usually not very many people dining here, so one must wonder how long certain items have been in the tepid steamers.

The golabki (stuffed cabbages) are particularly disappointing.  Wet chicken is average, sweet and sour cabbage isn't the best I've eaten, the potatoes come from a box (as they should), the noodles aren't too bad, and the gravy is just fine.

This place gets 3 stars because it's local, old-school, and filling.

The skillet does polish dinner as well as anyone. So long as you know what you're in for it's great.

Polish Buffet is outstanding! In the restaurant or from their catering division, nobody serves a better Polish Wedding Buffet. Good, friendly service and never a disappointment.

Good luck if you're a vegetarian.  Maybe you can stick out your tongue and sprinkle a little salt on it, because that's about the only non-meat thing you'll eat here.

I like how old school and falling apart it seems.  I like how my dear friend Esther spends each Lent obsessing over which Friday fish fries she'll attend.  For some reason, I associate her obsession with the Skillet, maybe because she told me about it here.  Or maybe it's because they advertised a Lenten Friday fish fry here when we lived in South Bend.

Anyway, I've been pretty disappointed the three times I've come, and that's impressive because usually once I'm disappointed by a place, it won't catch me off guard again.  But it did--twice!  Oh, and get a proper sign.  And do some local advertising.  And don't seem like you're closed all the time.

NOT for vegans, vegetarians or small appetites! We went here today and tried the Polish buffet/brunch buffet. Down-home, "sticks to your ribs" stuff. The "broasted" chicken is great and the mashed potatoes are some of the best I've ever had. And did I mention that homemade pie is included? Service is friendly and quick. It was a fun place to eat as many of our fellow customers were obviously "regulars" and there was a lot of banter between diners and waitstaff. Great little place, will definitely be back.

Skillet is a meat and potatoes restaurant best known for their Polish Wedding Buffet featuring fried as well as broasted chicken, polish sausage, buttered noodles, mashed potatoes, sweet/sour cabbage, stuffed cabbage, green beans, pierogis, soup, and rolls. All this for $8 to $10. Not really cholesterol friendly, but a tasty feast. It's all you can eat, by the way.

Individual meals off the menu as also available at a likewise reasonable price. Service as in drink refills is so good it is almost extreme.
