Studio BE

A friend brought me to watch some stand up comedy at Studio BE on a recent excursion. The show itself was a little hit or miss, which is to be expected from a night of what turned out to be amateur stand up comedians, and I didn't appreciate being heckled by  the performer onstage when I got up to run to the restroom (it was an emergency and there was no intermission). Even so, I thought it was a fun night and I would be willing to check out another show here with a group of friends.

The space itself was very inviting. It is small and cozy, which I thought allowed the performers to connect more easily with their audience. The person running the box office when we arrived was friendly and helpful, and the tickets, according to my friend, were very affordable. Also, Studio BE is BYOB, which is awesome (I hate being forced to buy over priced drinks in order to attend a show).

As already mentioned, the space is very small, which is nice in some ways, but not in others. It is a bit rough around the edges, but I found it to be fine for a stand up or improv show. The seats were not the most comfortable, but they weren't terrible. Either the sound system needs some work, or the person running the sound needs to learn what they are doing - I'm not sure which. It was also a little confusing finding the bathroom, which turned out to be backstage and not very well labeled. It was a little awkward having to go backstage during a show to use the restroom, especially when I ended up walking in on one of the performers.

The venue is nice.  It's hard to review a place like Studio BE separately from the events that are held at it.  That said, I'll try.

The venue is small and rough around the edges.  It is not meant to be a huge production and accomplishes exactly what it aims to do.  Most events are inexpensive and casual.  I have nothing to complain about, but also nothing to rave about.
