This is a sad review to write--5 stars for what once "was"....I drove by Sue's yesterday after last eating there about a month ago and it was closed. Â It appears to be reopening as a sort of Hispanic grocery/market or something, but no mention of what happen to Sue's. Â I'm SO sad--not only was Sue's a great lunch destination because of the great deli food and handmade salads and soups, (and she was TOO reasonable!), it was a friendly place, chock full of great ladies working there, including Sue herself. Â I've never felt more welcome and if anyone reading this knows what happened to Sue and her crew, if they might reopen elsewhere, or what, please message me. Â Sigh. Â Another independent business gone while the myriad of chains just keeps on, keepin' on!
Review Source:I found a treasure. I'm hesitant to share it. It's on Lee and 12th in Covington. Â It's Sue's Deli.
I've been driving past this place for years now on a generally weekly basis and never have gone in. Over the past few months they've been tearing up 12th St. and I was really hungry and out amidst the construction was a sign advertising a Reuben. I like Reubens. So I pull over and walk into what I hoped at best would be better than fast food and at work I'd blow $5.
Nope. It's great.
Nothing fancy, just a convenience store in a old building with great hardwood floors, some groceries, three tables and three women behind the deli counter looking like their having a great time. I wasn't sure what to order and hesitated. A woman I'd guess is Sue told me she makes a great double decker sandwich. I nod yes and she gets to work all the while greeting her customers - a cop and some construction workers.
A delicious sandwich in a bright, clean, friendly environment. Oh, and the sandwich was huge.
Go support Sue's.
