I normally like sports bars, but Tanner's is far from my favorite. The hamburgers, wings, and "chicken lips" (chicken tenders) are mediocre. The only decent thing I have had on the menu is loaded chili cheese fries.

Their "specials" on beer/drinks are nothing to write home about, unless you call a $4 12 bud light a deal.

The service every time I have been there is terrible. Three or four different waitresses have been outright rude, including a manager who was off duty, playing drinking games in the bar as she was supposedly writing the schedule. She had the time off book and other papers on our table, and was talking to other waitresses about scheduling issues basically right on top of us, to where we couldn't carry on our own conversation.

First our waitress breezed by, barely stopping, and asked if we needed anything. The two people facing her said no, so she moved on. One of the people across the table, not facing her, had no chance to respond, so he asked the next waitress who walked by to have our waitress come back. She not only huffed and puffed and rolled her eyes, but came back and said "you SAID you didn't want anything." After he ordered his drink, she went up the off duty manager and relayed the whole story, within earshot, making us out to be the problem. Not only did the manager not come apologize to us for this ridiculous behavior, she too started talking about us and rolling her eyes.

The only good thing I have to say about this place is that it is walking distance of my apartment, and that is the ONLY reason I would ever return.

My husband, 2 friends and I went to Tanners to watch a college game. We got there before the game and the place was barely half full. We sat ourselves. No one ever came by to ackowledge us. We flagged 3 different waitresses and they said just a minute, yet no one came. My husband called Austin's while we waited, asked if they'd save a table for 6, put in an order for appitizers and we'd be there in 10 min. They gladly said they would. Finally a waitress brought 2 glasses of water and 2 menus over for 4 people. We said, sorry we're leaving and headed to Austin's where we were treated wonderfully with great food.

Filet special was delicious! Great atmosphere. Good service. Great drinks. Table of 5 had nightly steak special. Got food fast. Easy to find. Very relaxed place.

Generally I like Tanners as a sports bar; however this location has proven to be a challenge every time I visit.  On my most recent trip we went in on a Saturday night to get something to eat and have a drink.  The hostess did not say a word as we entered.  There were quite a few empty tables next to the bar area.  We seated ourselves and proceeded to wait about 15 to 20 minutes.  We gave every signal that we would like to order a drink and perhaps some food.  Nothing...

My experience here has been similar on other visits as well.  The wait staff seems unfocused and slow.  I don't understand.  First the hostess should have redirected us if we sat in an area which was not being serviced.  Second, a server from another area should have noticed we were sitting there; however, we really didn't see a lot of wait staff working the floor.

After glancing at the other reviews I can see this is not an uncommon experience.  The staff here needs training.  Yes even a sports bar needs to train their staff.  I believe the issue is management.  On this occasion we left.  We have stayed on others and bore out the sub-par service.

The food is okay for the most part here.  It is not a Top Chef experience it is standard sports bar food.  Don't get your hopes up too high.

You get what you pay for.  It isn't awful, but it isn't great either.  The food is usually so-so and the service could use a bit of work.  It's a sports bar, what do you expect?

    Not my kind of place.

Granted, I usually go to bars on week nights when it's much quieter and less rowdy, but here we go:

We opened the doors and headed straight to the back of the place where the pool table and a few games were located. There was beer spilled on the pool table, forks on the floor, and a plate of mac and cheese laying on the ski ball game.

There was a group of drunk young adults standing around the pool table, and we asked them if they were using the table. They said no,so we put our quarters in. AS SOON as we grabbed our sticks, this same group goes "Oh hey, we kinda want to play after all." Then proceeded to continue to stand around the table, pressuring us to finish and making it very hard to shoot.

My Malibu and Pineapple juice was $4.75.

Noisy, very dirty, with obnoxious drunks. I'll pass.

I'd comment on the poor service, but that would imply that we actually had some. After more than an hour and getting our own pitcher at the bar, our table was still dirty from the previous people, and two waitresses had done everything in their power to walk as far away from us as possible, while simultaneously avoiding making any kind of eye contact. Awesome.

We asked our waitress if there was a beer list. She said: "This is Tanner's ... so, no."

That pretty much sums up not just this Tanner's but every Tanner's I have ever stepped foot into during my life. My visits to Tanner's are very few and far between by design. I can forget how the previous experience wasn't that good and then go back and think: "Oh yeah ... this is why I don't come to Tanner's."

I find the use of space at set up of this Tanner's particularly bad. It's a huge space. And it can fit lots of people. Problem is that there rarely seems to be enough wait staff working to really cover all the tables ... meaning you should order two drinks at one time probably.

Bonus star for the "chicken lips" ... but the star is taken away ... on account of Tanner's naming the fried chicken nuggets "lips" ... it's kind of gross.

Tanner's is never going to win any awards, especially for service, but it's not a terrible place. I really think it is a place to watch a game...tons of TVs, mostly of good quality, and a decent sound system for projecting said games. I would probably not, however, just go here to hang out. I have before, but I don't make a habit of it anymore.

The food is fine...your typical unhealthy but fairly tasty bar food. The drinks are served up cold and they can (but don't always) have some pretty decent drink specials. The prices are pretty fair in my book. The service, however, is where Tanner's lacks. They apparently try to get by on the fact that their waitresses are, on the majority, fairly attractive. That's great an all, but in the dozen or so times I have been to Tanner's (mostly this one but two others as well), I have only had what I would call "good service" once. It's usually slow with little to no smile and a general disdain for the job.

Beyond the service, it's a fine place, thus the 3 stars. If service were better, it might be 3.5 or even (gasp) 3.75! However, if service were any worse, it might be a 2.

" This wonderful world of drink, sports, & fun"  or so my Aunt proclaims. Me personally i don't get the appeal. IF you like Bars, Sports, & Fights. Then yeah this is the place to go. They do serve food which was ok, nothing really to write home about. Their specialty seems to be the drinks and " the cons they let out on parole during an Oakland Raider's Game". The spot overall was extremely loud to the point where it was interrupting people's conversations so it kinda made u want to leave of your own accord. The waitresses are very slow & lousy @ remembering an order. On a positive note they do have a feature where if your too drunk they'll call a cab for you to take you home.  I've heard some patrons say they've gotten sick off the salads 1-2 times, so I suppose the only thing ( which they claim they are famous for ) are hamburgers.  Needless to say the place is terrible.

Sports bar has a friendly vibe, and lots of TVs for game day, but the music was far too loud for the half-full crowd on the Friday night we were there.  The food & drink is good, and on their own would earn Tanner's a solid three stars, but I have to deduct a star for the service.  I had the Groupon, which specified that it was "not valid for happy hour", but had no other exclusions.  So we went at eight-thirty on Friday -- well after happy hour, mind -- and my date & I agreed that the T-bone dinner special looked pretty darn good.  When we tried to order a couple of them, however, we were informed that we couldn't use the Groupon for the dinner special.  Nowhere was it specified that lunch and/or dinner specials were excluded... but our protests were to no avail.  We didn't want to make too much of a fuss, and the waitress was somewhat apologetic, so we let it go and ordered a couple of sandwiches instead.  They were good, but they weren't T-bones.  It would have been nice if they had knocked off the price of our sodas, or gave a free dessert, or something... but no such luck, just one last lame apology from our server as she took her tip.  Badly handled, Tanner's.  Next time you might want to make your customer feel like you want them to come back even without a coupon.

So it was 9:00 in the evening and I was in the mood for bar food.  We headed to Tanner's on 119th to get a fix. There was a K-state basketball game on most of the tv's, but also some Monday night football. I think Tanner's caters to middle aged, sports minded men, because that's the clientele that saturated the restaurant last night. I have no problem with that, if they would have been showing a team or sport that I enjoyed, I would have loved the atmosphere. However, not being too concerned with K-State basketball or Monday night football, I was still able to enjoy my dinner companion and not be overwhelmed with loud tv's.
Since it was booga Monday, we split a bacon cheeseburger and also some wings. The cheeseburger was dry, but that may have more to do with my finicky partner who ordered it medium well. The wings were ok, not the best Buffalo wings in town, but not the worst. Our server, Morgan was friendly and attentive, she refreshed our drinks several time and was very patient when we couldn't decide what to order. Yay Morgan!
Overall the experience was fine. It was quick and relatively inexpensive, but left me with heartburn which is my own damn fault.

This is for the 119th Street location...

It's a sports bar and a good one.

Every seat has a good shot of a TV including 2 giant screens on either side of the place.

The waitresses are incredibly hot, if that's what you're after. And hey, they also are good at their job! I don't think I've ever had bad service there.

    Food is great.

    There are always food/drink specials.

"So Jesus is meeting with three guys before they get to go to heaven and he says that the only way they will pass through the gates is if they can show him something to remind him of Christmas.
The first guy jingles his keys and says Christmas bells.
The second guy pulls out a lighter and says Christmas candles.
The third guy thinks really hard, having no idea.
He then whips out a pair of women's panties and says 'these are Carol's'.  Get it, Christmas Carol's'"

Its okay if you're not laughing, I didn't either.  This benign attempt at humor was the first interaction with a glossy eyed jolly fellow who had clearly consumed copious amounts of the $6.50 pitcher special.  In retrospect it was the most civil discourse I had with strangers at that bar (slightly more appropriate than "nice tits" or "I live in an apartment with a pool if you want to come take a dip" both through a thick slobbering slur).  About what I expected waiting for a friend in a bar where the male to female ratio is 25/1.

Tanners is packed with TV's and sports affiliated tchotchkies.  They stay open until 2 AM with the kitchen open late every night which was the reason I wound up here at midnight on a Wednesday, not too much in the area seems to keep serving past dark.  The staff seemed to have a pretty dismal attitude about the whole situation, then again if I dealt with that kind commentary in 8 hour stretches I might find it hard to smile too.  I could see returning if my car broke down and I needed to use the bathroom or if I am fighting a mean bout of low self-esteem....anything short of those two circumstances I'm going to have to say avoid.

Walking into Tanner's I had my guard up, since I'd heard that it was a KU bar.  Any bar that boasts faithful to a college team that is not my own, has me weary.  This bar turned out to be quite fun, even packed with Jayhawks fans.

Tanner's is classic sports bar, with tall bar tables everywhere, numerous booths, bar seating, wall-to-wall televisions and the walls are covered with sports paraphernalia.  One of my major pet peeves in a sports bar are the bathrooms; not a problem at Tanner's.  The bathroom was clean and spacious.  I didn't not enjoy anything off the menu, but the draft beers were delicious.

We have one of these in Omaha and have been a few times. So when I was in OP on business I saw it and stopped by. It was a Tuesday night.   This place was packed!  I found a lone bar stool at there extra long bar and ordered a few beers.  I got a menu and saw that it was burger night and that it was $4 for 1 or $7 for 2.  I ordered one not expecting much.  I gotta say that was the best burger I've had in a really long time!! I got some rings (a buck or so extra) that were pretty good too.  All together my food was only about $5!  Well worth it.

So where do you go in Overland Park when you want to catch a game and grab a beer?  Why Tanner's, of course.

This place is located in a strip mall (how very suburban!) at the corner of 119th and 69, and with their motto of "you're not here for a long time, just a good time" you pretty much know what to expect!  Fast and friendly service!  You gotta love a place with "chicken lips" and "boogas" on the menu!

Every time I've been here, this place is packed with men watching a variety of sports action on TV's around the bar. Ladies, trust me- you will be outnumbered three to one! The staff is friendly and the food is good.  A locally owned chain- this is one of 8 Tanner's locations in and around the area.

I continue to be a little befuddled, however, about that specialty on the menu - "chicken lips".  Chicken lips?  Hmm . . I knew I should have asked what they were.   I guess any clues as to what they really are will have to wait 'til I get to Kansas again!
