While staying at the Brown across the street, I stopped in here for some Jamaican jerk.
First impression is a dive, hole in the wall. The menu consists of only a few items that are writtten on a board in magic marker. One seat to eat at if you want to. One employee. Other than that, nowhere to sit. Not a place for ambience....
I have to say, I really wanted jerk, but was curious about some of the other things on the menu. Today's menu was jerk chicken, oxtail, or curry chicken with rice and cabbage for $8,50. On the side of the counter were some Jamaican beef patties for sale in a hot display case.
I settled on the jerk, ordered it, and waited a few minutes. In the to go container was a quarter chicken, charred like it had been on coals, some rice, and cabbage. The cabbage looked greasy, but it tasted gooood.
I have had real jerk chicken, and don't know if this is a variation, but it tasted like it was chicken that was smoked over slow heat so the meat would fall off the bone, then jamaican jerk sauce was poured over the meat. I can't say it tasted bad, but I didn't catch any of the jerk taste in the chicken itself. It was all in the sauce. It was like I could have ordered any chicken dish and it would have been the same chicken covered with sauce to make it  whatever you ordered. Again, it was good, but not what I had in mind.
