Oh Taza, why must you be so far from me?

I found you by accident.  It was destiny.

I was looking for fresh pita, but I never knew what treasure I would discover within your walls. Your fragrant fresh bread was still warm as I lovingly chose the soft  packs. The aroma of your juicy kebabs was so alluring, I had to have one. The freshly squeezed orange juice was so sweet...like nectar from the gods.

Now you will always have a place in my heart. I will always be drawn to come to your door,  whenever I am even remotely close to you.

    Until we meet again...

Love this Lebanese bakery...I had their Chicken Shwarma and their zaatar bread....its reasonably priced and very flavorful....and the food is not only made fresh but tastes fresh...the zaatar bread was made right infront of us in their clay oven...it was super delicious! U must try it!

    Take out reviews.
The evenings can be hard work at this place with a lack of bread, lack of dips and service to match. Lunch is spot on, the place is jumping and plenty of great service and activity.
    First visit:
Had the hummus and bread, just OK and nothing to write home about and expected better.
    Second visit:
Chicken sharwama special on a Monday is one of the best deals going around and super good, just over $4. Delicious bread, chicken filling and nice sauce - a winner.
Also picked up for dinner a take out chicken pie (super good, with ground chicken and nice spice) and the spinach pie (a little bland and would not get again).

Taza means fresh in Arabic, and that's exactly what they're going for.  The breads are made fresh in house and they're always coming out of the oven.  If you like fresh baked bread, the breads are worth the trek up to devon alone.

The zataar bread is my personal favorite.  The dough is rolled out by hand, topped with a mixture of herbs, sesame seeds, and sumac, and thrown in the oven before your eyes.  Minutes later, it comes out of the oven piping hot and ready for devouring.  Also the beef shawarma is the best I've had in Chicago.  They make it in house and the spice profile is interesting without being distracting.  There are always lots of charred bits, and they stuff it into their delicious samoun bread.

It's a great spot and they have parking too.  Even though their standard Lebanese offerings like falafel and hummus are nothing special, the baked goods are enough to make Taza my favorite middle-eastern restaurant in town.

This is an amazing place. The food is fresh, tasty and cheap. The beef and chicken shawarma sandwiches are awesome. Can't wait to try the spinach pies and their pizzas.

so I am rolling down Devon and I see a Shawarma sign that says "Shawarma $4.99" I am like no way that's a steal and a deal

so a couple days later I swing in to check it the place out and get a couple of Chicken Shawarma's for our dinner

I can't remember what kind of bread he said it was that he rolled it in, but it was not pitta and that was a nice change it was like Naan but not so chewy a bit softer

the Chicken was nice and tender and juicy, the seasoning was just right and the sauce was not so over powering that it took over the sammich, only better Shawarma sammich I have had to date was in Detroit

still looking for a place that does Lamb Shawarma, but if you want Chicken this is the place to go

they also sell the bread they wrapped it in looked like 3-4 pieces for $2 they would be great for pizza or making cheesy bread I think

try this place out it is worth the trip just wish it was open later at night

This place is like a cafeteria with a viewing area of a baking kitchen.  Everyone is working really hard making all kinds of yummy breads while you sit and watch with your concessions of shwarma or zattar.  Everything is freshly made, including the shwarma, which they make in house.  The manager is super nice, very welcoming, and eager for us to sample some of the foods we didn't order.  We had a zattar, which was a huge freshly baked pita bread half spices and half melted cheese.  It was huge and a great deal at $3.  I will definitely be back.

Lahimajeen or samoon...one of these terms is the name for the lovely bread of these pies.  The Potato pie is mildly spiced, but the star is the dough wrapping both the potato and spinach pies.  It was thin, delicate, fresh and tasty.  It was both moist, chewy, but had crispy edges, absolutely no grease, and really makes the pies yummy.  The fresh squeezed OJ is indeed that, a nice fresh tasting thirst quencher.  There was a big brick oven that the bakers were placing lovingly kneeded and shaped pitas, knafee (pies).  Yum.

The cashier gave me a little tiny donut shaped cookie with a date cardamom/licorish filling.  Not on the level of a fine French pastry but certainly fresh and tasty.   I love healthy cookies.  It's an ultimate oxymoron.

I am ranking this place a generous four for being original, tasty, clean and friendly.

YUM! I can't wait to come back here.

I had the chicken shwarma sandwich and it was so good. I ate half of it for lunch and saved the other half for later. It was like a giant burrito!

I also tried the cheese pizza and loved it too. Next time I'm going to try another kind of pizza. It was like a giant quesadilla. The bread was fresh and it was very tasty.

My friend had the fallafel and loved it too. He said he hasn't tasted one so good since he was last in the middle east 5 years ago.

I also had the fresh-squeezed OJ....it was delicious but I should have gotten the smaller size - the Large was too much for one person.

Do you like FRESH bread / baked goods?

My husband and I enjoy the fresh, hot bread and Marjanat. We liked the cheese marjanat best...but they also have the Iraqi meat style and zatar.
The zatar marjanat could use a bit more olive oil to be perfect, but the bread was truly delicious, and the cheese is definitely imported or authentically made. They have a small space to dine in, but be sure to take some home!
Very Authentic, Fresh, Open early (7am) for freshest bread (still hot- watch them make it!)
This place will save us a lot of time and gas so we won't have to drive to S. Harlem for decent bakery anymore...great find!
    Has parking lot!

Nice space, modern looking and very clean. Previously and for the longest time this space belonged to a South Indian grocery store.
Taza specializes in baked foods, I haven't seen any desserts, mostly meat pies, pizzas and other things filled. Good stuff and they'll either bake it for you on the spot or ask for a few minutes to reheat something for you. There's a lot of care for the service and appreciation for the business you bring them. Many items are frugal in price. Spinach or meat as low as .79 to .99 cents.  Best for those times when you need a snack with your cup of coffee.

I stop in at Taza to get spinach pies and Cheese Zaater. Both are fresh made and deeeeeeeeeeelicious! They don't have a wide selection of bakery goods, but what they specialize in is tasty. It is neat to watch them bake up the food while you wait.  AND.... while you wait , you can have a cup of coffee and a pastry, or some fresh squeezed OJ.

This is a fairly new business, and they seem determined to be successful. The owner is very friendly and willing to please.. So if you like Lebanese baked goods, baked fresh to order, get your butts over to Taza Bakery. Parking is a breeze because there is a lot.

This place opened up recently and it is great!  Wonderful Lebanese "pies" which I call empanadas because I'm not really sure how else to describe them.  I've tried the spinach, veggie, potato and chicken and they are all delicious.  And at 79 cents each, you can't beat the price!  Owner said they will soon be selling rotisserie chickens and bread for $4.99!  Can't wait to try them out, and you can place orders over the phone as well.
