NOTHING grinds my gears more than overbearing management watching their quarter full parking lot waiting for violators to tow instead of making good food. On top of that they bar off their parking lot after hours so no one else can use their precious private parking lot(said with snobby voice) I have eaten here and it's not good, if you want a good place check out Millburn Deli.
Review Source:Great sandwiches!! Â Everything is very fresh and the sloppy joes are the best! Â Rye bread is so good too. Unique set up so you can watch them make your sandwiches which I like, but the layout is horrible!! Â The shape the building is awkward and because the inside was not designed correctly there is no flow. Â They need 2 different doors. Â One to enter on one side and an exit on the other and get rid of the all the bulky shelves. Â Also they need to get rid of the bottled beer if they cant serve it.
Review Source:Definitely NOT what I was expecting in a sloppy joe, but it was still good, if not pricey, yet it was large enough to share with someone else - I wanna say it was corned beef with slaw and Russian dressing (I believe this was the Maplewood). There were plenty of menu items that would lure me back. Â
The staff was very nice.
Being that I'm from Summit, the place where I THOUGHT the "original" Sloppy Joe was created (Town Deli, Old Springfield Rd) when I found-out that THIS was the originator - I had to try. Â It is an AMAZING sandwich! Â There is no choice on the menu where you can go wrong. Â They're huge, they're fresh, they're delicious. Â And if that wasn't good enough - we were leaving at the right time (the last time I was there) and the nice lady behind the counter gave us free (that's right FREE) frozen chicken soup! Â Greatest sandwich shop in NJ.
Review Source:Good local place to catch a quick lunch. The setup is a little confusing for the newcomer. There are tables but you place your order at the counter and your sandwich is delivered to your table.
Lots of daily specials at this deli along with the regular options. This place is know for being the home of the "Sloppy Joe" that scrumptious three-layer sandwich with cole slaw and creamy Russian Dressing.
The place is attractive and the staff is friendly. Worth a visit
An incredibly solid deli. My wife and I were out exploring the area trying to find a really good deli that you could rely on when you wanted a sandwich and decided to give this place a try. It's interesting in the fact that its half deli, half liquor store but while they alcohol portion is small and not too many choices, the deli itself is fantastic. We were greated by the friendly staff as we walked in and after a few minutes we ordered. The sandwiches we had were well made and full of good size portions. I had a tuna sub and my wife had a turkey sandwich. Even the prices weren't too much. Definitely a place we'll be back to.
Review Source:This place makes the BEST Sloppy Joe sandwich I have ever had. Â I'm not from the area but any time I find myself within 10 minutes of this place I make myself hungry so I can go get one of those sandwiches. Â If you fancy yourself a connoisseur of sandwiches, your repertoire cannot be considered complete if you have not yet had one of theirs. Â Check it out.
Review Source:As an avid Millburn Deli fan, I needed to try Town Hall to see where the competition stands. I tried the original Sloppy which is Tongue and Ham with swiss and coleslaw. The bread on the sandwich was great, and the meat was pretty much perfect. However, when it comes down to it, the prices are better at Millburn Deli, and there is just something about it, which makes it better. Town Hall is great, but it is no Millburn Deli.
Review Source:These sloppy Joes are done South Orange, NJ style--not Englewood, NJ.
Sloppy Joes aren't sloppy at Town Hall. They have been making 'sloppies' since the 1930's and said to be the birthplace of the sloppy Joe. What makes Town Hall's sloppy Joe stand out is how totally unrelated it is to the sloppy Joe we grew up eating in school cafeterias, ground beef submerged in suspiciously sweet tomato sauce and dumped on a sesame bun.
Jersey's sloppy Joe is neat. It is a large compact sandwich assembled with a variety of meats on three layers of thinly sliced rye, bound with Russian dressing and laced with cole slaw. The turkey and roast beef is a favorite and there are many styles to choose from the menu such as tongue and corned beef, smoked salmon with egg salad. The sandwiches are made to order and staff is attentive and open to specified combination requests.
Each sandwich holds a perfect rectangle shape--trimmed crust--cut into even squares of eight. The cole slaw packs and holds the sandwich together; adding depth to the texture and flavor. Every bite has a crunch and sweetness from the slaw and dressing.
I've never had a sandwich like this before and this is not a New York sandwich--it is different in many levels--in a good way. I enjoyed it and I wouldn't mind making a trip back there again.
Town Hall is a deli and a mini-grocery with a seating area. So grab a bag of kettle chips and a beer to go with that sloppy bite.
I live in Brooklyn now, but I grew up in the South Orange area and lately have been having a serious craving for a Sloppy Joe. Â They're probably the best sandwich in the world. Â I must have one. Â The way some people desire a night with Claudia Schiffer is the way in which I crave a Sloppy Joe.
My favorites were always the tuna/egg salad combination, and the ham/turkey.
Next time I head out to Jersey to visit family or friends, I'm stopping by the Town Hall on my way to pick up a couple of Sloppy Joes.
Home of the Sloppy Joe!!! No, not the sloppy joe you think you know. They make a sloppy joe sandwich - basically two meats and a cheese, three layers of rye, cole slaw, and russian dressing. We had the Maplewood Joe: turkey, corned beef, and swiss cheese. Â Each sandwich is about $16 but it serves two to three people, depending on your hunger level. I highly recommend it. The sloppy joe is so popular, they will apparently ship it out to wherever you are - though I can't imagine how it turns out once you receive it.
Other than the various sloppy joe combinations, the menu is fairly extensive with other deli sandwiches, soups, salads, and sides. They also sell beer, wine, and hard liquor - liquor was limited, but they've got a pretty good selection of beer.
