I tried to order a pan of rib tips but the guy on the phone either didn't understand what I was saying or didn't want to sell me such a thing. If they don't have that on the menu, all they had to do was tell me that they don't sell rib tips in that format. I was told to get rib tip dinners for around $10 each or they can sell me a pound of ribs at $75/lb. Ridiculous! That has to be a lie. I have ordered a 5lb rib tip pan from another place for like $30 before. Anyways, we got the rib tip dinners. Fries were thick and tasteless. Rib tips were mostly cartilage and the taste was just ok. Probably won't order rib tips from them again. I only ordered from here because of the yelp reviews. I sometimes think people that live in the neighborhood overrate restaurants in their area.
Review Source:One of the best Italian Beef sandwiches in the city at a great price. The owner takes pride in his food and you can taste it! Also try the rib tips. Awesome! Not all fat and bones like most places. Tons of meat and a great BBQ sauce. There is also something for the salad lover and it's their grilled chicken salad. This salad is so damn tasty. Grilled marinated chicken mixed in with some coleslaw and great veggies. This salad will really surprise you in a great way. Overall we have had some great food and super fast delivery. Go ahead and order NOW. :)
Review Source:I am not gonna lie when I have passed by this place several times and have never stopped. Game night at a friends house she ordered Pizza from them and OMG it was flavorful and super delicious. The pizza was hot and fresh. Super Fast Delivery. I would have never guessed. I cant wait to order from them again.
Review Source:Love it!! Just have your order together before you call cause I asked one too many questions and the guy hung up on me. I called back like Yo WHAT up Son (NY voice)!!! He was like you ready now...yeah alright whatdoyawant? LOL the food is good enough for that kind of service if you want something greasy and fast.
Review Source:me and a couple of my friends came here yesterday because we got our mind set on rib tips.. and since we were around the area, we decided to come eat here... the service yesterday seems better then the first time i came here.. but i cant say the same for the food...
i ordered the rib tips & hot link combo and my grape soda.. the food came out very fast.. a dish with 10oz rib tips, cut up hot links, cup of coleslaw, basket of fries, and garlic bread.. that is a good amount of food for 16 bucks.. but i didn't enjoy it... the BBQ sauce taste kind of salty instead of sweet.. hot links and rib tips doesn't have the smoked or grilled taste to it... garlic bread was chewy with no garlic taste to it at all... only thing i enjoyed from the meal was the french fries...
with all that being said.. this should be my last time coming here...
First, I will say that regardless of how "good" a place is for their food or ambiance, you still need to have good customer service as well, and this place doesn't even come close. Â I have ordered from this establishment numerous times (so I can't even say someone was having a 'bad' day) and time and time again, I get the same rude, ignorant man who answers the phone and proceeds to give me the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Â In speaking with numerous other co-workers, they expressed the same thing has happened to them so I guess the good news is he doesn't discriminate, he is just rude and nasty to everyone. Â I speak to people with the utmost respect and courtesy and simply don't understand how a person, who owns a business and provides food to the public, can be so ignorant. Â Needless to say, I will never order from this establishment again and have spread the word to my friends, and local businesses who have ordered from here, to do the same. Â I also intend to report the business to the BBB and the State of Illinois Department of Regulations. Â My advice to the owner is to take a step back and evaluate what true customer service really is because you have no clue whatsoever.
Review Source:This is the neighborhood of Uptown right here. Hands down the best non fru-fru restaurant in the neighborhood. A Chicago menu through n through with each item worthy of "hot damns" and "yessirs". This place is fire. Rib tips, gyros, BBQ chicken, pork chops, Â all that all that. Eating here is like listening to Common's "Be" album, Â Chicago and full of quality.
Review Source:This place is just so good and CHEAP. The only downside is it's a little sketchy, but the men who work there are so nice.
My personal favorite is the gyro....the pita is awesome and you get a lot of meat. My boyfriend looooves the rib tips, and their bbq sauce is amazing. The fries are surprisingly delicious as well. I had a cheeseburger once, and would definitely get it again, although the patties are thin so I recommend getting a double. Get a side of bbq sauce, and dip your burger in it...so good.
Have yet to try their pizza, but look forward to it!
Also, their desserts sitting in the case always make our mouths water, but we figure we have enough calories with the food....I'm sure we will break down and try it sometime!
Alright, I'm giving 5 stars out today like Willie Lloyd. Â But this place deserves it. Â
Again, a neighborhood staple in Uptown. Â The same owners, and quite possibly the same workers, since as long as I can remember. Â Great guys. Â This place does Chicago eating right. Â I usually get either a gyros plate with an extra pita or the half slab of ribs. Â The other day, I just found out about their links and tips combo. Â Best $13 I spent all week. Â But most everything on their menu is Chicago comfort food at its best, with a special shout out to their pizza puff. Â
May not be healthy living, but it tastes great and hits the spot every time.
I read all the reviews of this joint before I went, because, from the outside, it looks like the kind of place I'd only enter if it was the lone option at a desert oasis. Â So thank you, fellow reviewers, for getting my snooty nose out of the air! I had a half slab which came with fries, and a gyros sandwich (you know, pre-ordered for breakfast. Hey, as long as I was there..). Anyway, the ribs were way, way, delish! Definitely worth the stop. The fries were fries - good, but about what you'd expect. The gyros was also very good - but if/when I stop here again, it will be for the ribs. Nothing to stick your nose up about. But I did do carry out. Not any place I'd like to dine in - but that is mostly about the neighborhood clientele, not the restaurant. It's got a standard dog n' burger joint type appearance.
Review Source:Oh man, they get me every time... Â Just when I think I'm all ready to walk South from my apartment, go to Jewel or Whole Foods, grab some fresh veggies and things to make a healthy dinner at home... It's either the smell of ribs wafting down Wilson Ave., or my 'fella telling me has "a taste for a cheeseburger" in that sneaky way of his, but I forget all about vegetables, and decide instead that it's time for chicken & ribs, cheeseburgers and fries, and/or gigantic slices of chocolate cake.
Every time I walk by that window, the guys inside wave, smile and wink at me. Â They know I can't resist, they know I want ribs covered and smothered in that ridiculously tasty sauce of theirs. Â And then, when I pick up my food, they say "for the pretty lady!", like I needed their compliments when they already had me hypnotized with barbecue sauce. Â But I'll take compliments, no problem.
I was walking past with my hubbie and my pup and was stopped in my tracks by a glimpse of a gigantic chocolate cake through the window.
Huge, layered, chocolate with chocolate icing - the cake of my dreams.
One of the nice fellows working inside saw us drooling and brought out a menu (since with the pup, we couldn't both go inside).
We got the catfish dinner and the chicken strips, along with a slice of the gorgeous cake.
The food was very plentiful - I was surprised that the catfish was in filets and not 'nuggets' like you'll often get. Â Fries were really good, after we re-crisped them at home in the oven. Â Not their fault, fries don't do well in a styrofoam coffin.
The food was pretty heavy and greasy, but I expected as much from here. Â The cake was delicious - big enough to slice and share between us, and the chocolate was 2-glasses-of-milk rich.
My family members rave about the gyros here and I usually don't eat gyros, but I had to get it since it was suppose to be very good. Well, it wasn't that great. I'm a big fan of soft pita bread with a bit of crunch to it, but damn this pita bread was hard as a rock and they barely gave us any meat when they usually pile it up. The meat was overcooked and dry. My favorite part out this whole meal is the fries - crispy and cook just right.
Hopefully it's better next time.
Get ready to get messy with the rib tips, they are so delicious and tender. I love how sloppy they are and the sauce with the fries is like a holy matrimony made in BBQ heaven. Don't forget  the buttery french bread ... go head and dip it into the goodness that is covering your ribs.
I am messing up my keyboard typing this...As I've got my food sitting here crying like a needy toddler for me to coddle them ...which I am doing, so don't you worry reader.
The meat is fall off the bone tender, fries are not quite crisp nor quite soggy...let's just say the right consistency for dipping and paring with your ribs. Believe it or not, I did order the salad....yes, I became that person who orders the diet pop with their greasy double cheese burger thinking it might some how cancel out the goodness I just consumed. Was it worth it? Yes it was, it's just your regular ice berg with green pepper, tomato, red onion, cucumber and carrot salad.
Now for the ambiance of the place (I ordered for pick-up rather than delivery), the place seems shady and sleazy from the outside but don't let that fool you. The men behind the counter are super friendly and are willing to please. Some of the patrons that were sitting in store were friendly as well and seemed like regulars.
I am definitely coming back.
Even though my last experience here was not the best, I know what this place can do.
Rib tips are the best i've had north of roosevelt rd. Portion of the small is plenty, but i always opt for the large and have some leftovers for lunch. Meat is really tender. If i brought my gramma here, and she forgot her dentures, no worries, the meat is that soft. Every once in a while I indulge in a chicago favorite... THE PIZZA PUFF(which i just found out was a "chicago thing"
Their menu is mind boggling. I can't even focus, so I stick to what I know, but I've heard everything is good. LITERALLY everything.
Pretty good BBQ for Uptown. Â Not as good as Honey1 or Uncle Bub's in the suburbs. Â Their specialty is rib tips and I must say that they were pretty tender, juicy, and saucy. Â They were a great deal too; it was less than $6 for 15 oz of rib tips, slaw, fries, and bread. Â Also ordered the hot links to have some variety...they were somewhat dry but again, for the cost I'd say it was worth it. Â
Delivery was very fast and they got everything right.
Awesome concept of lettuce and tomato on gyros. Uniquely different but utterly satisfying. =) I thank all my guy friends especially Tuan for always making me come here with them. Tony is a big fan of their gyros now too. I love their service and the people behind the counter are always happy and sociable (not like those other places where you feel like the cooks were spitting in your food and serving it to you bottoms up).
Review Source:Although I have much love for Uptown BBQ, it really is a two star kind of place. I lived down the street on W. Wilson (sketchy, sketchy neighborhood but I loved it) and I came here frequently for a couple of things: milkshakes, hot chocolate, and ice cream. If you want incredibly greasy food (fries, chicken, ribs, grilled cheese, pizza), then you can find something to satisfy...but I never touched it.
On a plus side, the guys who work here are FAAAAABULOUS. Such a sweet group of Mexican guys - headed up by Pablo, a man who will make your heart melt.
If you want some good food fast get uptown. Â The Chopped Steak Burgers Rule as well as the Italian beef with Moz. Cheese! Fries are great and so are the Gyros. The pizza and Barbq ribs are ok. Stick to the Sandwiches and Chicken and Large grilled chicken Salads and you will be in Piggy heart stopping heaven. Oh ya Get a Mocha or Chocolate Milk Shake!
Review Source:The prices, service and delivery can't be beat, as well as the fact they are open most evenings until 1 a.m. All you party animals on the north side looking for a quick fix of grease and calories, this is the place. Their milkshakes are great and they do a really good gyros. Perfectly cooked fries, and the largest salad I've ever had in my life (no way a salad that big can possibly be good for you).
