Sorry to see Victory Sandwich Bar in Inman Park go. I know they are moving towards/too Atlanta's upcoming Belt Line but this location was fantastic. The 'going away' party was pretty Epic as well.
Guys and Gals thanks for the couple of years of great easy food, fun atmosphere, awesome location (after years of miserable restaurants in there) and good times. To Ian and the gang good luck and see you soon.
I was very disappointed with my experience at Victory Sandwich bar. The service was lacking and the food was okay. We waited at our table for a good 15-20 minutes after getting scolded for trying to order at the bar. We were told a waitress would be right with us. Â The jack and coke slushies were good but nothing I couldn't create at home. The icing on the cake was finding out on Monday that my credit card was charged 2x for the wrong amount. After 2 returned emails(the address doesn't exist??) and 2 phone calls to the manager unreturned I have turned the issue over to my bank.
Review Source:"Banh mi? From a hipster sandwich shop?"
"Why not?"
"It's $4."
"So?"
"Isn't there a law against charging more than $2.50 for banh mi?"
"So?"
"It's half the size of any other banh mi."
"So?"
"You're Asian."
"So?"
This is how I came to be convinced to buy the Banh You from Victory. Don't be stupid. It's not banh mi, it's not worth $4, and it's not that great.
The Hambo, on the other hand, is good stuff. And I got 14 potato chips this time.
Very good sandwiches, just as I experienced last weekend at the location in Decatur Square. This time though, I went for dinner (rather than lunch) and I am not sure if they always have loud music playing, but that day that I went to the newer location, there was no music (or maybe music that was played at a soft volume) so I was able to enjoy conversation with my lunch companion. Bf and I had to almost scream at each other to be able to hear ourselves.
No matter. We talked before and after and we are always around each other, so what new and happening thing did we miss during dinner anyway? I got the Mile High Club and Hambo, while he did the Castro, the BBQ one (don't remember the name), and the Beast on Yeast. I also asked for the marcona almonds with cheese and dark chocolate to start off. These were delicious and the same as in the Decatur location. I enjoyed both of my sandwiches immensely, noticing that the bread is very good. Bf also liked his, but he claimed his favorite was the Castro. No particular reason (though maybe the super vinegary and spicy BBQ sauce was not the best thing he has ever eaten--don't kick him, we're not native Southerners).
Service was actually really awesome, with several servers checking in with us without ever getting too touchy-feely. Our glasses of water were refilled on a consistent basis (we drink sooooo much water). I enjoyed the salt and black pepper chips (though I snuck about half of mine onto bf's basket--which he completely did not notice--to save myself the extra calories, haha).
The size of the sandwiches is conducive to you trying at least a couple of different ones, if you are so inclined. Alcohol is served here, but I know nothing about that because I suffer from the ridiculous Asian glow.
Victory had been on my list of places to try for far too long, so when a couple of friends and I happened to be starving and in the area, it seemed like the logical choice.
...and I really like this place. Â It has all the things that make for a great lunch / sandwichy / hangout spot. Â Fantastic patio. Â Interesting people watching. Â Delicious eats. Â Great drink menu.
On this visit, I ordered two of their small sandwiches - the mulligan and the hambo. Â Thoroughly impressed with both. Â Be advised that the sandwiches here are small, so if you're hungry, definitely go with more than one. Â The surprising portion of this meal though was the chips. Â I have no clue why those things were so damn good. Â I mean, c'mon. Â They're chips. Â But they were probably some of the best chips that I've ever had. Â For serious. Â And I'm generally unimpressed with fried potatoes.
But the highlight of the entire visit - that chocolate chip cookie. Â I didn't even notice them on the counter when we originally ordered, so thank goodness that one of my dining companions did. Â It was huge and soft and sprinkled with salt. Â Yesssss. Â I'd go back just for this cookie. Â I sure would.
Victory - you win. Â Haha. Â See what I did there?!?
I've gone to this place a few times now and I really don't get what all the hype is about? Don't get me wrong the sandwiches were okay but by no means did any of them blow me away. They are only 4 dollars a pop though so I guess you get what you pay for.
Besides the food though this place has a great vibe and a solid staff. Drinks are decent but can be a lil steep in price.
Overall I'd say this is a cool place to check out and just because of the atmosphere I'd say its a good place to go with friends or to have a date.
Not my first rodeo here but the first one where I was eating.....
So! Â Had the fancy nuts - manchego, almonds, dark chocolate and chili powder = yum!
For the main had the victory at sea and the beast on the yeast - both of which were delish, the victory at sea was really bursting with flavor. Â For drinks I stuck to the canned variety though I'm told the jack & coke slushy is great. Â All in a nice patio, friendly staff and a ping pong table , you cant lose!
To update on my hugely in-depth review, Victory has great sandwiches that really stick in that sweet spot of your taste memory- the Castro especially- but in my opinion the REAL DEAL sandwich here is the Weed Eater (Mozzarella, hummus, avocado, dressed arugula). There are hundreds of these in my future.
Review Source:Nice patio place, bang in the middle of Inman Park. Reasonable portions and prices, enough for a quick snack. Sandwiches come with chips, and you can get a salad to go with it. The Jack and coke slushie was yum. We had the beast on yeast which was beef, and the chicken sandwich. For non-pork eaters, options are cut down to about 4 I think. Service was quick, food was good, parking was easy to find during lunch on a weekday. Too bad they will be tearing down the place soon for that new development in the works!
Review Source:My husband and I ate here for the first time today and it was delicious. We had seen it on Atlanta Eats so knew what to expect when it came to sandwich size. They are about the size of a slider. So we decided to try three and split them in half. It was perfect for the two of us. We tried the Mile High Club, Castro, and the Boss Hogg. The Castro was my favorite, but the other two were really great too. We also tried the Jack and Coke Slushie, and it was perfect.
I am ready for my next visit!
Do you like tequila? Of course you do. If you said no, that just means you've only ever done shots of warm Cuervo and no one likes that. If you try it with Jarritos grapefruit soda and lime on a warm spring day with good company and the sun on your face, you will like tequila. Cross my heart.
Review Source:Like Kathleen, I don't come here for the bar. You get pretty good sandwiches for $4 a pop. It won't exactly fill you up, but its definitely a good in between for a snack or light meal. The combination of ingredients is thoughtful and pretty delicious.
The service here could be better, or perhaps just less rude. I'll come back one more time to if maybe she just had a bad day.
As it stands, if it wasn't so cheap, they'd have fewer stars.
I went here for a dinner and got a turkey/ham/bacon sandwich. The sandwiches are $4 but they're about the size of two end pieces of a load of sandwich bread. The chips are pretty good. I think it's probably a little overpriced for what you're getting, considering the sandwiches aren't anything spectacular.
The service...meh. Our server was nice, but the bartender was pretty rude. Our server was outside and we wanted to get another order in, so we walked about to the bar to get a menu. The bartender told us that our server could only get the menu. Really? You incapable of walking the five feet to get one?
Also, not that this affected the beverage, but the bartender and server poured some of the beverage into another cup to try it. It wasn't full, but then a portion was taken out. So whoever got that drink got shafted a few sips. Like I said, they didn't sip, but still a little low to do that. Also, I got badgered for about this likely from the bar tender or server at the restaurant through yelp message. Glad to see that customer service is really shining through.
Overall the food is alright, service is bad.
meh.
I will admit, I was expecting a lot from Victory. Â The food was good, but it seems cheap ($4 a sandwich) because it's for half a sandwich. Â Don't get me wrong - I like that concept, but it's good to know up front. Â The jack & coke slushie was great.
Service was less that desired. Â I am sure I would have liked this place much more if we were able to score a spot on the patio - which seems awesome. Â
I would go back, but I would get there earlier to get a patio spot.
Okay! Â I went back here last night, and got the Weed Eater, which is I think is the sandwich that I was talking about in my last review....It was really good! Â I like the sandwiches, the chips are good and they're an absolute steal at 4 dollars a piece (they're small, get two if you're hungry hungry) Â The ingredients all taste fresh and it's a nice diversion from the usual bar fare.
I have to update my thoughts on the Jack and Coke slushies though. Â Maybe my alcohol tolerance has increased a lot....or maybe they're putting less Jack in their formula than they used to, but I got two doubles ($16 together), we only stayed about an hour and a half, and I really wasn't feeling buzzed. Â Out of curiosity, I breathalyzed myself (yes I keep a breathalyzer in the car, don't judge me), and I blew a .029. Â Now, I'm 5'0 and about 112 pounds, Â if I get two double jacks at a bar, I should be worried about driving home, not barely buzzed. Â I have one beer some nights and blow higher than that. Â
Anyway, that was a bit of a rant, but if and when I go back for their great little sandwiches, if I get alcohol, it'll be a beer.
This is a really neat space and great patio. Â Nice for afternoon drinking or brunch. Â I wasn't blown away by the food. Â I thought it was overpriced for a HALF SANDWICH and a bit bland. Â This was my first time at Victory and I will be going back. Â Hoping next time it's not as crowded and there's a little more focus on the food. Â Great crowd watching though without a doubt!
Review Source:This place has a food menu but I went late at night for drinks. The drink menu is unique and pretty decent. They have several beer choices and spiked soda drinks and other choices. I would definitely check out this place for a different type of drink. I had the Spiked Mexican Coke. Never have seen this anywhere else. This venue is pretty limited for space and has an outdoor area. It kind of gives up a hipster scene  vibe. Overall, for just hanging out and drinks, I would say check it out. I will have come back a different time for food and see how it goes.
Review Source:These little sandwiches are just plain tasty! Well shall I say SANDWICH(singular) as I only had a one...
After many a disclaimer..The fam took me to Victory 's since as an out-of-towner I was given the privilege of trying somewhere NEW with them. RISKY business!
Results? Loved every little bite of the Castro sandwich and house made black pepper potato chips! A small but satisfy meal.
Next time in ATL I'll be requesting a do-over for more sandwich selections and drinks!
Amazing gourmet sandwich shop! The Hambo and the Castro are ridiculously good.
Jack and Coke slushees are a required drink. Don't drink too many or all the food will taste amazing. Even their "Victory at Sea," an incredibly salty anchovy sandwich that is seemingly only good for people who like....Wait, is this a G rated page?
One of the better designer sandwich shop I have been to. It is a great atmosphere and perfect for lunch!.
supercool casual spot. great outdoor area and friendly staff. I love the spiked sodas. tried anchovies for the first time here- on a sandwich with frisee and lemon mayo. it was wonderful!
If anyone is familiar with the Ace hotel in Palm Springs- very similar aesthetic. we actually asked if the owners had been there before- staff wasn't sure.
I came here with Tay, H, and Kungfu on a Saturday. It was a bit early but it was still pretty crowded. This place is hip and the deck would be a fantastic place to have a few bites and a round of drinks during the spring time.
I ordered the hambo and the chick pea salad. The sandwiches are pretty small. They're a bit smaller than the size of my hand. The chick pea salad was spot on and I need to somehow figure out the recipe for their red pepper pesto! That pesto needs to be jarred and sold out front. I also got the paloma soda, and highly recommended. The grapefruit jarritos isn't syrupy sweet when infused with tequila. Yum.
Tay got the chick pea salad and the tomato basil soup. He said the soup was great and it was vegan friendly as well. He scarfed it down so fast that I couldn't steal a spoon of his soup.
H got the Han Cholo and the chick pea salad. She said she liked it but wasn't sold on it a hundred per cent.
Kungfu got the banh you and the hambo. He said the banh you was great but it ain't like the real thang.
I guess the real testament to the food was the fact they all ate it so fast that I couldn't steal a bite :( I'm the slowest eater of them all. We'll be back to snack and drink since it's down the street from Tay's.
Holy Hipsters Batman! For me to rate this place its almost two different categories.
Drinks here are great. My personal favorite are the mixed sodas. They take soda in a glass bottle, pour it out, put the alcohol in the soda bottle and pour the soda back into the bottle. I love the Root Canal (Absinthe & Abita Root Beer).
The sandwiches are okay at best. They seem cheap, $4 but they are tiny. The taste is there, but value isn't. If you're actually hungry, order at least 2.
Totally worth going to, I love the atmosphere at Victory. Just go for drinks, not a meal.
Yelpers, I deem this to be your fault. Â This place was on my list of cheap places to eat. Â I see now that I need to explain the difference between cheap and inexpensive.
According to the miser's dictionary, an inexpensive eatery is a place where a typical order will not be expensive. Â Victory Sandwich Bar was not expensive. Â I ordered a nonalcoholic drink, sandwich with chips, and shared an appetizer/side order and left a tip for $12. Â Unheard of in Atlanta. Â
For me however, it was not cheap. Â Cheap for me means I am getting more than what I paid for. Â These teeny little portion control sized sandwiches are so delicious (I had the one that was bahn mi esque) it is unfair that it took me literally 7 bites to consume. Â For my American sized stomach and greedy taste buds 7 is not the number of completion, I wanted more. Â Especially because yelpers had told me that this was a cheap place to eat. Â Boo-oo!
All that being said, one day, when I am nor pinching pennies and trying to catch a "steal" or deal, I will certainly visit again and hopefully partake in the drinking and mingling.
I seriously thought this was just a sandwich place. Last night, I showed up here with friends at around 1 a.m. and realized that it is actually my new favorite neighborhood bar. There is cool art on the walls, a friendly, mixed crowd, and cheap, exciting food--everything that takes a late night from barely tolerable to awesome.
The fact that it took me so long to figure out this place is what it is doesn't really speak well for me, but that is a totally separate issue.
Parking was ok. I went there on a Tuesday night at 8 PM. The place was full but not very busy. The waitress was cool but not overly attentive.
I ordered the Weed Eater and the Jack and Coke Slushy. They were both great and I would order it again. The chips on the side made the sandwich taste better admittedly. The sandwich and the drink were $4 each so pretty cheap.
The drink was pretty weal but tasty. The location was very hipster and chill so it is very low key.
Hello Dark and Stormy, where have you been all my life?
What a great joint to hang out and chat on a Friday or Saturday night. Â The drinks are heavenly (see above mentions D&S, my new favorite cocktail) and they offer cider (my "beer" of choice). Â It can get a little loud, but you can still hang out and have a conversation with friends while enjoying inexpensive drinks. Â
The housemade chips are delish and allow you to snack so you can drink more - hooray!
I full intend to follow Kathleen's advice and come down here for lunch one day and enjoy the patio and all it has to offer.
Jack Daniel slushies and Pokemon sandwiches with ping pong on the side? Yes, please! What a lovely little sammy shack with outdoor dining and spiked slushies on the tap. Did I mention the slushies? Oh yeah I did, so kill me.
Prices are low because everything is soooo portion friendly in this place. Every sandwich comes with fried chips though - disconnect much? Regardless, it's gooood.
Did I mention the slushies?
I've been here tons with friends but never tried the food, man, what a dumb mistake. Fun fact, they put sandwhich in the title for a reason, they know how to make them.
FOOD
I had the Han Cholo, some chorizo and slaw with a tangy BBQ sauce positioned between a small slider bun/bagel combo. I mean, yeah, I got too excited about $4 sandwhiches, you'll need at least two, but this little darlin is delicious. Juicy but not soggy, and so many more flavors than some overpoweringly sweet BBQ sauce you'd expect from lesser establishments. I was there on a Monday, so had to have one of the tacos. I had the special, some sort of limey chickeny thing. The individual pieces weren't quite so identifiable in each bite, but the flavors were great, similar in style to their sandwiches but a dollar cheaper.
AMBIENCE
I'll be honest, this is probably what makes this place for me. The servers are hip, but not too cool to be your friend. The inside's a little noisy (all that concrete doesn't help dampen the sound) but the porch is amazing. Have seen any heating on cold nights, which is a bummer since that leaves it empty, but it's one of the best outdoor patio feels in the city. It just feels real.
DRINKS
All the other reviews cover this, so check it out. I mean, they've got novelty, I'm not sure if price or taste really works here but, again, the ambience easily makes up for it.
I've enjoyed going to Victory Sandwich for lunch and also for drinks before/after a show at Dad's Garage nearby - so can say I like them both ways.
Their sandwiches are a great deal - I'm always shocked at how cheap they are, but so good. Love their patio for enjoying lunch with friends and people watching and wish it was open at night as the inside of the bar fills up quickly at night.
Their popular drink is their Jack and Coke slushie served in a small glass mason jar - tasty and dangerous! These go down really smooth and can hit you hard later. I really like noshing on the 'fancy nuts' mix for late night.
Sometimes it gets too busy, but if that happens - just bounce to The Albert. Parking is challenging all over this area, but can be found.
Have I strangled myself with my infinity scarf and gone to hipster heaven? Yes, I think I have. My favorite part about this place is that the servers never smile and no matter what they say it sounds like "blah blah blah whatever".
Though I come for the knitted hats, one speed bicycles, and irony, I stay for the $4 sandwiches and cheap drinks. The mile high club I had was small, but good enough with a side of orzo for a real meal. $7.50? Heck yes.
The sandwich was a mini panini looking club with all the normal items that go into a club. I would definitely get it again, but the orzo didn't do it for me. The chips they serve with all sandwiches also rock. I don't know if they're house made, but they are wonderful.
My date had the cuban sandwich and did not let me have one bite of it even though we agreed earlier in the meal I could. Next time I'm getting that in writing. The side of ramen she got was cold and spicy and made me want to cheat on my orzo.
Now it will be  toss-up between this place and The Porter for my go-to before Variety dinner.
I really don't get all the hype surrounding this place. To me, it seems everyone falls in love with the hipster atmosphere and unconventional layout. I found the food to be average at best; the same goes for the drinks.
I had the Hambo and the Victory at Sea on two separate trips. The ingredients all sound well and good, but there's something missing. Maybe it's that the sandwiches are haphazardly assembled.
The mozzarella on the Hambo was cut way too thick and was falling off the bread. Both times, I had to reassemble my sandwiches before I could eat them. They are also fairly small. I suppose that could be a positive or negative depending on your appetite.
My wife had the Castro on one of our trips. I had a taste. The thing that bugged me the most, it was lukewarm -- a notch above room temp. Slow-roasted pork should be served very warm or hot.
A word about the building. The entryway of this place smells like there's a dead hooker under the floor or at least a BDSM, scatological dungeon below. If that stench gives you wood, by all means, eat inside. For everyone else, I'd recommend the outdoor deck.
Super Pan and Fifth Earl -made- exceptional sandwiches, and it's a pity they are both gone. Leon's Full Service makes good sandwiches as well, but they're all the way over in Decatur.
If you want a fairly good sandwich in the immediate area, try the sandwich shop in the basement of Parish restaurant just a block down N Highland. If you want exceptional food along with great drinks and a hipster/metro atmosphere, Sauced on Edgewood Ave is far superior.
**I know I sound like a nit-picky asshole, but I'm giving an honest opinion of what bugged me about the place. Your mileage my vary...
Victory is:
- replacing Johnny's New York Pizza with this place
- finding parking within one block (it's okay, walking is good for you)
- finding an independent sandwich shop in this city!
- finding a complete meal for under $10!
- eating one of the sandwiches in just one bite
- being unique
- having both a bad-ass patio and ping-pong table
Who doesn't love a place that is independent? Especially when it's quirky, creative, cheap, and high quality? You can get a Castro (slow-roasted pork, ham, pickle, fontina cheese, and yellow mustard) with some chips, hang out on the patio, catch some rays or just people-watch, and all for just $4. Four dollars! And the Castro isn't just a good sandwich. You could argue its one of the best Cubans in the city.
Some may argue that the sandwich is small. IT'S FOUR DOLLARS, people. Go splurge; bring eight bucks!
Victory is just about perfect. Â Perfect prices, perfect portions, and seriously yummy sandwiches! Â Their chips are also delish, and every "hummus of the day" I've ordered has been wonderful.
The only reason I don't give it a full 5 stars is because of the NOISE. Â Even in the middle of the afternoon with only a couple of tables full, the woman at the cash register kept asking us to repeat our order because she couldn't hear us. Â I've been to Victory several times, and this is almost always an issue. Â If you can sit outside it's better, but I do wish they'd just turn the music down the tiniest bit so people aren't screaming at each other. Â It seems especially odd at 2pm.
Victory Sandwich Bar is an Inman Park eatery where you can get delicious $4 sandwiches. Â It's located across the street from Savi Urban Market and around the corner from Fritti. Â The restaurant isn't terribly big, but there is usually more than enough seating inside. Â Along with sandwiches, a great thing about Victory is its operating hours: 11am to 2am, daily.
Victory has an unfinished industrial/loft-type feel inside. Â The business also has an outdoor patio. Â Ambiance is a casual, relaxed, and a bit hipster. Â The menu is simple. Â They offer about 10 different sandwiches and a small assortment of sides (hummus, potato salad, pesto) and salads. Â Everything is reasonably priced. Â Sides are $3.50 each.
The sandwiches are small. Â Each sandwich is about half the size of your typical restaurant-size sandwich, so if you're hungry, you'll probably want to order two. Â Sandwiches are served with a small side of house chips. Â I've tried four sandwiches here so far. Â They are:
Han Cholo - Mexican chorizo, queso blanco, fast-pickled red onion, tomatillo salsa
The Hambo - prosciutto, mozzarella, arugula, apple, reduced balsamic
Mile High Club - smoked turkey, bacon, ham, avocado, fontina, dijon
Castro - slow-roasted pork, ham, pickle, fontina, yellow mustard
Of the sandwiches I've tried, the Han Cholo (play on "Han Solo") is easily my favorite. Â It's like a Mexican sloppy joe. Â Expectedly, a bit messy, but oh so good. Â Each bite is packed with savory ground chorizo and is very appetizing. Â Soft, slightly glazed, toasted bun.
My second favorite is the Castro, Victory's version of the Cuban. Â Good flavor and tender meat. Â The Hambo and Mile High are also good in their own right. Â The Hambo is packed with plenty of crisp arugula and a bit of balsamic. Â You'll almost think you're eating a salad. Â The Mile High is a lot like your typical club sandwich with plenty of chunks of fresh avocado.
Service is very good.
Free parking is available throughout the neighborhood. Â Your best bet is to parallel park somewhere along Elizabeth.
I admittedly don't hang out here as a bar: it's my go to lunch/snack spot. The patio is bangin', the service is always super friendly, and the sandwiches (and sides) always hit the perfect spot. My only wish is that the patio could be open later, but that's not their fault: it's due to crappy Inman Park neighbors like myself.
And now that I've discovered that they sell the same delicious freshly baked salted chocolate chip cookies as Savi across the street, I'll be back more and more.
