Terrible service, terrible bartenders, terrible food that left us sick and in the bathroom that night and the next morning.
This place seemed better to me when I went 3yrs ago, but what my friends and I experienced Saturday night will make us not go back.
Getting a drink at the bar took 10-15min. I am not kidding you. For BEER! The bartender also forgot I wanted my card closed, then couldn't find it, then finally did. His co-bartender, my friends and I actually felt bad for. She was a waitress who got thrown back there (we think as least, as she wasn't familiar with what a Hibernator was or that it was on tap). You could see the people around the bar just getting more and more annoyed waiting. The bartender didn't know  who came first and just served people in front of him while chugging Red Bulls. If you wanted a drink, you had better be ready to wait at least 10min.
They ran out of pint glasses and were serving everything in plastic cups.
The man who appeared to be the supervisor was just bumbling around, not doing anything of importance. He said he couldn't help the bar staff, he didn't know how to run Keno (much to the displeasure of the man waiting next to me to buy a ticket), and he "forgot" to bring our food out until I asked.
The Chef there seemed to be the only redeeming person, who apologized to us for getting the wrong pizza (bacon instead of pepperoni) and gave us a basket of fries for free. We also ordered pretzle sticks and buffalo tenders. I felt terrible within hours. By the end of the night, my friends and I were all in the bathroom. This continued the next morning as well. NOT pleasant.
Oh yea, and the girl who was in charge of the pool tables? She didn't have a waiting list set up for their free 7-9pm pool. And then didn't understand why people were upset about not getting a table after waiting for 30+min. The girl thought playing on her IPhone was a better idea than maintaining a wait list.
Never going back.
I went here for my birthday and had a great time. Its a bar so no big expectation on food. The food is just as I expected- comfort food which I washed down with my liquor. We had a blast just singing or poking fun. It was a great night and I have been dying to go back. I sang 3 songs and I am THE WORST singer around. The crowd sang with me.
Review Source:I Love the Wave. it's my favorite bar around. I was new to the area as of June, and was looking for a place that I could hangout and feel safe and welcomed. The Wave was that place.
I usually come mainly for karaoke, but I have visited on other nights as well. The staff and bartenders are very friendly and I feel very safe going up there alone. I also have brought up groups several times for pool and then Karaoke. It's always a good time. Saturdays get a little crazy sometimes so I prefer to come Thursdays (a lower key night, where you can sing more) and Fridays (sometimes busy, sometimes not).
The karaoke with DJ Todd is the best Karaoke I've ever been to. I've done a heck of alot of karaoke and this is definitely the place to go. If you want to get several songs in, come on a Thursday. Fridays are good too, but tend to get busy and Saturdays you will be lucky to get 2 songs in. Todd is really fair though.
I just love this place =)
Had some wings and assorted other snack items as we hung out for the disastrous Arizona-San Francisco game. Â Warner threw a bunch of wobbly ducks and at least one interception, which sucked, but otherwise, the food was decent, and the bartender friendly. The place has a bit of a weird feel to it, but if you're fortunate enough to live in Waltham, if you want to watch a random Sunday game, this is the place to do it.
Review Source:THREE stars for the karaoke. Â KJ is fair and friendly, song selection is great, but the crowd can range from fun to downright obnoxious.
ZERO stars for the food.
ZERO stars for the drink; I think their taps are unclean. Â I had two beers last night but I feel like I had 6.
ONE star for the crowd. Â 75% meatheads and there's was the obligatory drunk 21 year old girl crew doing "Baby Got Back" for karaoke while thinking they're being sexy.
ok. so here's the thing about the wave:
1. it has tons of pool tables, no wait and it's relatively more awesome than any of the cheese-ball joints in boston where you wait hours for a pool table and overpay people who treat you like they're doing you a favor by getting you a beer.
2. i would bet that it's the only bar for miles where you can drink copious amounts of alcohol like you watch middle-aged men in headbands and wristbands play racquetball like it's 1985.
3. they have KARAOKE 4 NIGHTS A WEEK... and the fact that there are usually no more than 10 or 15 people makes it the perfect place to loose your karaoke virginity - you'll have fun and you won't do the walk of shame in the morning with torn stockings.
4. the beer may not be perfect - but it's pretty cheap and all the bartenders are super friendly which is more than i can say for half the snotty-ass bars in boston.
5. it's IN THE MIDDLE OF AN OFFICE COMPLEX... so if you don't work in an office you'll be entertained by LOTS of people who share qualities with such famous people as DILBERT... and the characters on THE OFFICE... it's like being in a zoo where you can watch all the cube monkeys YUK YUK it up.
so there are five good reasons to hit the wave.
will everyone lay off wave sports pub, please? Â
i discovered this place when i did a google search for billiards. Â free pool fridays 5-7 and saturdays 7-9 is great! Â the room is huge and there are many pool tables, all of which are in perfectly good condition. Â the juke box always plays good and appropriate-for-a-pool-hall type music: Â classic rock and the like. Â there's also darts and i think ping pong, and now they have wii, although i've never ventured into those activities. Â i think their games are plenty fun. Â and for those of you who would rather go to good times, it's CLOSED. Â even if it were still open, there's a decent chance you'd get stabbed on your way in. Â
yes, it does smell like a pool. Â but i prefer that to the many bars i've been to that smell like old beer and vomit. Â the facility is clean and i don't find it to be sketchy at all. Â more dive-y if anything. Â although you do kind of get the feeling you'll be attacked by the korean mafia when you pull into the parking lot behind industrial warehouses...
i've never noticed anything funny with the beer...always tastes fine to me! Â also, karaoke is fun if you're into that. Â the kj is nice, has a huge selection, and the books are clean!! Â no pages stuck together or covered by beer film! Â there's always the right amount of people there...enough so you don't feel like you're the only one singing, but not so many that you're lucky if you get called up once.
the food? Â i've never tried it. Â i'd wager that it's probably not that good, though.
Ehhhhhh they have plenty of pool tables and they have drinks.
I think they also have dollar drafts, but I don't drink beer.
The biggest downer here is that they stop letting you in 1 hr. before they close - they actually lock their doors! But, other than that, it's something to do in Waltham.
The Wave is one of those places that you would never just stumble upon. Â It really is in the back of an industrial complex, which would be totally fine if they used the space wisely. Â I liken it to Good Times in Somerville as far as size, but not even close when it comes to games and fun. Â The place is huge but only has a few old broken video games, billiards, and darts. Â Lame-o! Â The food looked a little scary so we skipped it. Â Beers were cheap and the server seemed nice. Â And it totally smelled like a pool as soon as you walk up the stairs to go inside. Â I think it is attached to some sort of weird gym. Â I could see the racquetball courts from my seat at the bar, how weird! Â
Anyway, I heard that this is the place to go Pre-Thanksgiving. Â Maybe b/c it can fit your entire high school inside? Â I dunno.
I went here with some friends because it's pretty much the only bar in the area with trivia on Friday nights. We took a cab from Arlington and literally thought we were in the wrong area b/c this is in an industrial complex! Â First thing that hits when you walk in is the smel of chlorine, mmm... Our table overlooked some raquetball courts. Â Total townie bar, but cheap Miller Lites ($2) and the trivia was fun. Â They also have a large room with ~20 pool tables if that's your thing.
Review Source:The only reason to ever go here is for proximity.
The bar is is in the same industrial complex my company is and I went here with some of my colleagues for beers after work.
The beer from the taps tastes off. Â I'd recommend getting the bottles. (Maybe it has something to do with that it sits on one of Massachusetts biggest Superfund sites?)
The bar is located in the same building as the local athletic club, and always smells like a public pool (lots of chlorine).
I'd only go back if dragged.
The Wave Sports Pub is not the best Waltham has to offer. They do offer free pool on Saturday and Friday evenings, $2 Miller Lites and have trivia Fridays @ 8pm. They have a fairly good drink menu, one bartender stands out; I'll find out her name next visit. But, the food and the service is garbage. I ordered a taco plate at the beginning of a basketball game and it finally arrived as the first overtime period was ending, and the waitress was nowhere in site the whole time. We had to keep going up to the bar to order drinks. I am not sure why I keep going back, maybe because we come so close to winning at trivia. But then again the prize is a gift certificate to use on food. OK, it's official I'm not going back.
