Most definitely a "hole in the wall" but it was a good one! Great place to just chill out and have a drink or two.

    Parking:
Right next to it on the right side of the sign of the logo, there is valet parking. It is around 7 bucks.

    Atmosphere:
It's one of those reviews where your like "really, I haven't yelped this place?" I used to come here all the time with my friends. I still love this place and do come here if I ever go to Hollywood which these days is not too often. It's got a little juke box in the corner (everything from rock, grunge, rap, oldies). You can actually converse with your friend without yelling at the top of your lungs and at the same time enjoy your company and catch up. It's pretty quiet during the week, happy hour is 5-9pm daily and can get a little busy on weekends but nothing too dramatic. Also, for those of you who have been to NoBar (N.Hollywood), the Woods,  the Parlour Room, or El Bar---(they are all owned by the same group.)

    Food:
They do have a menu with appetizers as well as tacos, salads, etc. To be quite honest, I haven't tried to many things to eat the many times I've been there. I usually hit the Bowery for a burger (it's across the street, but that's a completely different yelp review lol) and then come straight here with my friends.

I know the head chef here so i come by with friends for happy hour and snack on bar food...very solid simple bar foods...fried pickles, short rib sliders, grilled cheese, all bad stuff!!! not really good for large parties but its nice for a group of 4...music isnt super loud either so you can still have a converstion...

some interesting cocktail names!!! its not your mixologist bar so dont expect anything super crafty...but all the drinks are above average...

I would have easily given this place 5 stars had the bartender been more polite.

    I loved the atmosphere.
The bar is located in the center of Hollywood, yet I didn't get any of that pretentious Hollywood vibe/attitude... not until I was leaving anyway.

I went there on a Wednesday night to have a mini bday celebration. Being that it was middle of of the week, it was quiet and I felt like I had that place all to myself, which was nice. I had a really great time but the bartender pretty much killed it for me.

Since the people I was with paid for my drinks, I don't exactly know how much tip they had given, but apparently it wasn't enough. The bartender gave us an attitude and actually asked "Are you serious? I give you a free drink and this is it?" Not verbatim but something definitely close to that.

I've worked part time at a restaurant a long time ago so I know all about tipping etiquette. And I know how hard the staff work at any restaurant/bar so I'm a very generous tipper because I think they deserve it. BUT... I thought it was extremely rude for her to say what she said. I mean, let's just say that the people I was with actually did leave a crappy tip... You don't give the customers an attitude and question them as to why they're being cheap... You just give them a fake smile and talk crap about them after they leave... That would've been much smarter.

This is a nice place to come for a couple drinks during happy hour. Three dollar beers is pretty decent in my book. The only reason I'm giving this place three stars is because the service can be a little slow and the food isn't really anything write home about. I usually just pick off my friend's plates because I can't bring myself to pay for a burger and fries that tastes like it was bought at the Trader Joe's down the street. And everytime I come here and people get the food, some of it always gets left.

The inside is nice, the atmosphere is fun. The seats are comfortable and the music is at just the right volume to hold a conversation.

    I love(d) this place. Really.
Well, I used to. I met a lot of my best friends here, and the place used to have a nice, friendly vibe.
Now, the attitude of the staff in this place is ATROCIOUS.

And, those f*cking copper mugs! Never IN MY LIFE have I been to a restaurant or a bar that forced me to put down a $50 deposit for a fricking CUP. they were just CONVINCED that we were desperate enough for cash that we'd slink down to THE WELL (of ALL places) to spend over $100 on drinks JUST so we could get our hands on one of their precious mugs!! Is that a craze now? Stealing copper mugs?

If you are so paranoid that everyone in your bar is a thief DON'T SERVE DRINKS IN FANCY-ASS DEPOSIT NEEDING MUGS! ya dig?

Oh, and they also madly water down those drinks. AND they're overpriced.

    One star for the jukebox.
    One for the memories.

Drive right down Vine to Sassafrass. They'll give you no trouble there! I swear!

My favorite Hollywood bar. The Well has an amazing happy hour that goes till 9 PM every day of the week!

The best drink is the Cucumber Press: cucumber vodka and ginger ale - it is like spiked spa water. Be careful they are super addictive. Their jalapeno mac and cheese is to die for. They also offer up a rage of hot sauce to pair with it.

There are a few weeknight specials including $4 burger Tuesdays and grilled cheese night on Mondays.

TIP: you can reserve the "Keyhole Room" for free. It is a semi private room with it's own window at the bar, super fun for a big group or birthday party.

The Well is one of my favorite bars in L.A. The happy hour runs late, the crowd is laid-back, and the music on the jukebox is great! A hipster bar this is not, which I love. I've been here twice and the drinks are always strong.

The service...the first time the server was walking that road between rude and friendly. She was neither, but not enough of one or the other to make a big difference. The second time our server was also our bartender, so she was busy and didn't come check on us often.

I still love the dark, cool atmosphere and the food is tasty, although there are few gluten-free options. Note: Tuesday night they have a special burger during happy hour. The last time I checked, the burger options changed.

Found this place using Groupon. Drinks are over priced. $15 for a drink?? this aint no club. The Bartenders (girls) were rude. If you don't like Groupons customers, don't have the promotion.

Only good thing about this place is probably the Tacos. That was a plus. This is why i give 2 stars. would of given 1 if it wasn't for the tacos.

Oh, wow. I had a great meal here this week. An extremely generous and fresh ahi tuna salad + a $5 glass of Prosecco? Heaven. Amazingly, The Well's happy hour goes until 9pm, and I loved the lounge-y atmosphere and cozy booths. It's a perfect spot for grabbing dinner before a movie across the street at the Arclight. I will definitely be back!

Solid spot.  Came here for the first time last Saturday and enjoyed their happy hour specials from 5-9 pm!  Our total for 6 drinks and 2 appetizers was $60!  Woo hoo!  The drinks were strong and savory too.  There is plenty of seating and the bar offers a ton of seating in addition to purse hooks ladies!  You can park at the Palladium for $5 (if there is no show) or you can park on the street and feed the meter, or at the lot next door for $7. You can also take the metro to Hollywood and Vine and walk a block.
This place has 4 star potential, but they only have a jukebox full of what I consider "driving music" - Phoenix, Alabama Shakes, Mumford and Sons - Billy Idol was the hottest item in there.....but not much that says "Yeah! Its Saturday Night and Imma get KRUNK".  Music and lighting create ambiance, and for such a dark bar, they need to liven up the joint with some good tunes.  For this reason, this is mostly a precursor to your fun night out.

This spot is so nice, I came here on a date and it is a great spot.  The bar is dimly lit with big, comfy booths and couches.  There was no server when we went which I would have liked to have opposed to us having to interrupt our getting to know you conversation to grab drinks from the bar.

I will be back for sure, this place is nice and relaxing, laid back if you don't want to deal with the crowds :D

I like that this place is chill, and quiet that you can speak but the drinks are SO weak!!!!

I am a lightweight. Seriously, at the Edison I was blackout drunk by two drinks. Here, I had the tom collins (which was mostly club soda), some fruity punch the bartender recommended, and cucumber press. I also had a lot of my bf's moscow mule. I ended up taking a few shots of jager and I was finally buzzed.

Bf tried the brown sugar old fashioned, moscow mule (the deposit is $50 btw, if you don't talk to them before they put it in a smaller cup, like a tom collins. The woman bartender put it in a regular glass cup so I asked her why wasn't it in the copper mug and she said you need to put down a deposit so I had to give them my card and then she just poured the drink in the smaller regular glass into the larger copper mug and then just added more ginger beer which made the drink just ICK.

The food is pretty decent except that it's salty, had the chicken quesadilla, onion rings and potato skins.

Parking was fairly simple (around the block and in a garage for $10)  but seriously, the weak drinks are a serious turnoff. I spent around $80 during happy hour and was sober, I'd rather just go to the Edison for yummy cocktails.

Moscow Mule in a Copper Cup drew me away from ordering my usual Mojito.  Amazing and so was the food.  Mom's and Pop's kind of place.  Good music, good place to stop instead of waiting in line for the concert hall doors to open. Will return, yes indeed.

We came to have a couple drinks and some nibbles before the show across the street. Big mistake.

I understand, they were obviously swamped and understaffed but the servers/ bartenders gave us so much attitude. I hate it when servers act like they are doing YOU a favor by taking your money.

So we come in and would like to sit. We had to wait around to flag down the cocktail waitress and ask her if they had any tables open. She was coming out of the back with a mouth full of food and just rolled her eyes and nodded as if to say "No". My friend and I looked at each other in disbelief and then she finished chewing and came back and said "no, we have no tables" then she ran away.

So i'm left standing there, confused. So I have to flag her down again and ask her how we order food if we don't have a table and she tells us to order from the bar (...and we can eat standing up I guess?)

So I wait at the bar forever. I try to order a couple times but I get denied by not one but TWO bartenders, who just look at me and again nod, as if to say, "I cant help you because I don't know how to pour more than one drink order at a time"

    WOW. Just wow.

As a retired bartender of 10 years who worked in many busy nightclubs, all I can say is that this staff was terribly unskilled and must really hate their jobs. They were scooping ice out of the well with the glass, short and over pouring, and did I mention our drinks tasted like shit?

How does one mess up a dirty martini? It has like two ingredients. The thing was so salty I had to go back and order some vodka on the side because she obviously served us straight olive juice with a splash of vodka.

All the while I was really friendly to them in hopes that if I flashed a smile they might flash one back...nope.... the just kept frowning. A guy who looked like the manager was just standing behind the bar doing nothing while his staff sank deeeper and deeper.

This place sucks. I have no idea what all these good reviews are about. I never stiff people but they got a lousy 10% from me that night. All they had to do was not be dicks and I would have over-tipped at least %30 because I always feel bad for bartenders when they are swamped. I hope this place ends up closing.

We had a great server here... She messed up a food order and brought us the free "mistakes"!

I have been a couple times before (back in 08) and I remember the drinks being cheaper during happy hour... But I could be wrong.

Their Moscow Mules are awesome. You need to leave a $50 deposit on the copper mug! So funny. If it were daytime i'd prefer to be out in the sun, but at night this place is missing nothing.

All in all a great experience.

Kinda eh for me. Came in for happy hour. Ambiance was bland, drinks were less than good. I had the el diablo to which I added cherries just to mask the cheap tequila. My gf had the brown sugar old fashioned which was basically okay. As it got later we started getting dirty looks from a group of party people vulturing over our booth. This of course is not the fault of the bar but made for an uncomfortable 30 minutes. The drinks we ordered were on the happy hour menu so it is possible that ordering from the main menu makes for a better drink.

This is by far my favorite bar in LA. I was disappointed with the bars in LA, with their lack of atmosphere, interior design, cool vibe. Till some friends invited us to The Well and I liked it immediately. It's cool, elegant, classy, bit dark, has great atmosphere, it's not loud, they play decent music in the background. Also, it's great, they don't have  TV-s in here. No desperation in the air either. People who frequent it are cool, they're not the loud, aggressive type.

Great happy-hour! Till 9pm? I started to meet friends at The Well and everybody liked it and "adopted" it. Even people who visit me from other countries love this place and use it for get-togethers. It's enjoyable, elegant, fun, intimate. Great service. We did find street parking around, but had some patience navigating the nearby streets. After wards, that great apple Martini tasted even better!

What restaurant has happy-hour until 9pm?  The Well does!  Most places end their happy-hour at 7pm.

They actually have an extensive happy-hour menu for food and drinks.  I love their Apple Martinis!  Their potatoes skins, tacos, and edamame are my favorites.

    Service is great!

    Highly recommended!

I can't believe I hadn't written a review of this place already. Great happy hour 5-9pm 7 days a week. You can get a rumba punch for $6. Drinks are stiff and after a couple of rumba punches I would certainly feel the effects.

The food is really good too. Monday is grilled cheese night and Tuesday is $3 burger night. All made from scratch.

One of my favorite lounge bars in LA. Another place with dark lighting and a good date spot.

When my friend said lets meet at Sunset and Argyle to meet for a drink, I was a bit hesitant.
I drove around trying to find the place, which was tucked away behind the coffee bean. I wouldnt have found it at all if it wasnt for the blue lit up sign.

I was attending a wrap party with my friend and his coworkers. They rented out the very small room in the back, which was just big enough for about 10 people to not feel cramped.
The rest of the bar was very dark and hole in the wall-esque which is very hard especially in Hollywood.

The music was low enough to where I didnt have to shout and the drinks were quality.
I loved that there was not a short skirt or leather vest in sight.

The only reason i'm giving it a 3 star was because the bartenders took forever to acknowledge me and get my drink.

Otherwise, prime atmosphere for a bar in central Hollywood.

The Well has a happy hour on Saturday night that ends by 9. Has a cozy atmosphere that makes it a great lounge to visit with a group of friends. The crowd seemed to be in the late 20s to 30s at 8:45 pm on Saturday, and the place was still pretty quiet (wish it was more "happening," given that it was a weekend night). I wouldn't suggest going here by yourself if you are solely going out in Hollywood to meet other singles. On the other hand, if you want to start your night off with an excellent cocktail that is not overpriced during happy hour, then venture out into LA's so-called entertainment center and find this kind of hole-in-the-wall place.

I asked for a sweet drink made with rum, and the bartender made a Rumba Punch for me. $6 on the HH menu, comes in a large glass, and is one of the best mixed drinks I've had.

The Well serves food, although my friends and I came here straight from dinner, and we did not look closely at the menu. Here is a link to their happy hour menu, if you're interested.

I think it's time to update my review...

I have mixed feelings about this place.

    What I love...
-I work in the same building where this bar resides.
    -Great happy hour drink deals
    -Stiff drinks
    -Good food
-You can reserve an area. We had a nice, cozy spot for a group of 10.
-Manager was very responsive and quick when calling in the reservation.

    What I didn't love...
-The food isn't discounted so the tab builds up quickly
-Service could improve, do we have a server or not? I thought we had a server but she wasn't around much so we had to keep going up to the bar. Our bartender girl was  rude. We ordered a round of shots and realized we didn't have our wallets, my friend went back to the booth which was just a few steps away to grab her bag and the bartender lady said "you do realize you have to pay for your drinks"...really??? I thought shots were free?!?!?!  After all the money and drinks we purchased throughout the night, her one comment ruined my nice buzz!
-Only 2 bartenders on duty on a Thursday night.
-We ordered a ton of drinks and food, no body took our dishes away so it kept piling up! They should have paid me because I became the unofficial bus girl.
-I've been there twice this week and both times they had issues with their oven so I had to eat hummus for the first 2 hours.
-Woman's bathroom has one stall...a pet peeve of mine.

I actually like this bar but after the mediocre service the last few times I visited, I didn't think they deserved 4 or 5 stars.

Well this is a very different Bar from the rest of The Sunset Strip.
It's not your typical "trendy" place with those annoying, loud drunk girls and the 'try too hard" men. It's a very chill place to have a couple drinks & get some good food.

...Speaking of the food, I was very pleasantly impressed! I didn't have the highest expectations when ordering, due to the fact we were the only ones in the place when we walked in, but my oh my was it delicious!
I got the Pesto Chicken Panini and the Mixed Bowl of the Onion Rings. Soooo good!

I guess we got there too early, cuz about a half hour of being there a good crowd came in. And everyone was very laid back, I love that.

They have a jukebox with some pretty cool music, not too much to choose from, but there are some good Classic Rock choices. I played some Zeppelin, Billy Idol & AC/DC when I was there ;)

I also really loved the interior. It's so cozy & romantic. Good place to bring a date that's for sure! Also the bar seats are wayyyy comfortable, I am so not used to nice, plush, leather seats at a bar. Heh. It's a pretty dark bar, which I like, and the restrooms were actually very clean, yayy! lol.

Only thing that made me deduct a star is the bartender...He was sooo quiet, he never spoke a word to us even when we were the only ones at the bar, other than "What would you like to drink"...Hah! I even tried getting him to talk, asking about drinks & what not, and still he never made conversation; he was very short answered. Never even asked how we were doing, nothing! It was kinda awkward. He seemed like he was in his own little world the whole entire time. Weeeeird.
Maybe an off day!? Who knows....well my bf and I kept each other entertained with the music, good food & drinks...We'll be back one day :)

Great drinks and I absolutely LOVED  the music! ( I desperately wanted to take the jute-box home with me)

I had an old fashion as well as an absinth laced drink that was delish.  The food wasn't bad either if you go early enough to get a table.

Great for dates or catching up with friends...

I came here last night when my friend Santina flew in for a visit.

I love the interior and the ambiance of this place. It's possibly one of the best bars I've been to. I ordered a whiskey sour which wasn't all that strong and I'm a little disappointed there but I wasn't looking to get smashed. They had a jukebox that I thought was pretty cool and the music was great. I'm easy to win over when you play Muse and Imagine Dragons.

We got there at about 10 and it was pretty packed. Finding it was a little hard since half the sign was burned out. Parking in the garage next door is seven bucks, Christ. But that's Hollywood for you. Street parking was bumper to bumper with no spaces available for a few blocks. Get there early for their happy hour!

And if you see a table available, grab it as fast as you can. They don't stay empty for long. I'll definitely be making this a regular spot.

I think this place is one of the best bars in all of L.A.

It's got a nice ambiance, a lot of room, not too loud and a great happy hour from 5-9pm. Drinks are usually affordable anyway.

Definitely try the Moscow Mule or the God Father Martini (both very good). Skip the Rhumba Punch (it isn't as sweet as it sounds).

If you go on a monday they have grilled cheese night .... I got the short ribs and goat cheese grilled cheese sandwich ... so.good! It's a perfect little plate with chips and some tomato soup for dunking!!

The only slight letdown is that the parking situation isn't ideal - essentially no free parking. But there are lots nearby and meter parking if you come early enough!!

Just another dive-y bar in Hollywood, where there's a bar really on every corner.   The bartenders are efficient, and the drinks are strong enough.  We had 3 Lemondrop shots, a pear press, and a Bay Breeze which cost about 48 dollars.    What a surprise--it's L.A.!   It's a decent spot to meet up with friends for drinks, but it's nothing that I would really bring out of towners to.

Great little spot right off Sunset near the Arclight and next door to Palladium.

Happy Hour is 5:00-9:00PM everyday with plenty of drink options.  Martini's are nice and they don't judge you for being a man ordering one of the sweeter options.

Food is hit and miss (overpowering taco sauce) but their fries are fantastic.

They have valet but I've never had a problem parking on the street.

This is my favorite bar in hollywood.
The first time I came in, I was reminded of Madmen (and ordered an old fashioned to celebrate). The brown sugar, cherries and orange muddled in the bottom were delicious.

I have been there many times since then. A few highlights-- the Rumba Punch is a killer. It tastes like a fruit punch, but after a couple, you are definitely not walking straight. The lemon drop martini for $5 on happy hour is delicious as well (sugar on the rim!)

The food is also something to be mentioned. My boyfriend swears by the spicy chicken strips, which I swear are soaked in hot sauce before being fried, making them moist and amazing. I love the fried pickles and the jalepeno mac n cheese!

Plus, the service is great. All the waiters and bartenders are pretty good looking, too! Definitely a fun place to hang out and watch people.

Still slapping myself for not coming here sooner.  AMAZING happy hour deals with uncomfortable drink names -- but hey, it's all good food and good drink.

Our group had a bevvy of "slow and comfortable screws" for $6 each (snicker) and ordered several dishes:  fried pickles, mixed onion rings, fries, churros (yeah, a lot of fried) with some tacos and quesadillas.  Price range $5-8 each.  Of these, I liked the onion rings and pickles the best.

The space is very low-key, open, and leathery.  Yes, "leather" tables scattered in the middle of the runs.  Lighting was bright in the booths, but I appreciated being able to see my food.

Minor issues with service: not a lot of traffic when we walked in, so we chose a booth and sat down...and waited...and waited...until finally we went to the bar to place our orders.  Once we got a waitress, she was very cool, but as the space got more crowded, she was harder to flag down.  Other issue:  1 ladies restroom.  'Nuff said.

Parking:  We were going to the Palladium later, so we paid $15 for the lot adjacent to the bar.  The Well does have valet for $6 or $7 though, so you do the math.

I saw on the menu that The Well offers birthday packages for no minimums -- I'm thinking I may have to give this a whirl...

Nice lounge, tucked away down from the W hotel and near the Palladium.  Went there on a Monday and there was a decent amount of people hanging out.
Pro: Laid back vibe, decent music, dark, not loud, no door issues. Happy Hour till 9
Cons: Service was a tad slow.  Beer selection is a little weak, no taps.

My main barometer for a place is usually if I will go back.  It's a yes, check it out.

I used to love this place. Chill, quiet, great seating. The music wasn't so good, but....eh. Good beer selection, and they make decent cocktails. have not tried the food.

went to the well last night for the first time in a while, and was there for an hour or so...paid, left, all was well...or so i thought. then, I checked my bank account this morning, and they charged me three times for the same transaction. So, instead of paying $31 for two rounds of drinks...I paid $93. They are reversing the charges, but this kind of stuff shouldn't happen, ever. Not coming back anytime soon.

I like to practice full disclosure on Yelp, because, well, that's what it's all about. That said, I must preface this review with the following statement:
Both times that I have visited this establishment were with one of my favorite people in the entire universe AND it was during happy hour.

    Now, we continue...
Happy hour here is AWESOME and it runs 7 days a week (5pm-9pm). Do you know how many days are in a week? Seven. Do you realize what this means? Happy hour. Every. Day.

And GOOD drinks, not just a half a shot of vodka with some sugar-laden cranberry juice. Their old-fashioned: bravo! And this is coming from an old-fashioned connoisseur (maybe not).

Seriously, though... Grab your favorite person and go to The Well. Now.
