I was in the area so i went to Winberie's  for lunch. It was not busy and I was quite surprised.  I guess b/c it was 1:30p. My friend and I were immediately seated and greeted by our waiter. He handed us menus and took our drink order and mentioned they make fresh brewed ice tea, which I ordered. It was excellent.
They had a few lunch specials along w/ a lunch menu. Ranging in prince from $ 8 to $17 approximately.Salads range from $10 and up averaging 13 dollars. They also have burgers, and sandwiches.
My friend and I started w/ French onion soup. It was pretty good. The cheese was melted over French bread and the  broth was flavorful and loaded with onions. The only thing it could have been hotter. (I like really hot soup)
I had the Chicken Quesada based on previous yelp reviews. It was good but I've had better. I didn't care for veggies inside. It came with sour cream, guac, and salsa. Nice portion.
My friend had the special , it was a sliced steak sandwich w/ red roasted peppers and provolone. cheese, on a chabatta type bread. We shared our orders,so we could taste a little of each. The cheese was melted the steak was seasoned and tender. The roasted peppers added texture and a wonderful flavor This should always be on the menu.
Our waiter was very good. He refilled my ice tea several times without asking. He even came over to apologize when he thought our food didn't arrive quick enough. All in all we had a lovely lunch. This place has nice decor, small bar though. Casual dress. Great happy hour deals! Worth stopping bye if your in the neighborhood.

Came here a few weeks ago with a friend who just moved to Summit, as well as our other friends from Brooklyn, and it was snowing out.  There was a bit of a wait but they still were able to seat the 4 of us quickly.  I got the chicken marsala with the green beans and red peppers and mashed potatoes, and was satisfied.  My one friend had the homemade chips with cheese and loved them!  It was pretty crowded and yet not too loud.  I've been to the Princeton location back when I used to figure skate and my family went to that Winberie's after a skating competition, and it was also a pleasant experience.  A nice atmosphere for all.

Visited Winberie's for the location and convenience. My husband and I ate dinner here w/ another couple. The menu is big, lots of choices, restaurant has a lot of seating, bar does not. Some the the entrees are not worth the price. Salads/Sandwiches run about $8-17. Entrees $17-27. They do have a nice daily happy hr from 330-630 1/2 price drinks/appetizers at the bar.

Not a lot of healthy options on the menu, but you're out to dinner right?
The cobb salad was OK . The burgers were OK as well. My husband got the crabcake entree (not worth $22), it was more cake than crab.
This is a good place for a quick bite and drink. It  does get pretty busy and reservations are only taken for parties of 6 +.

Go for the burgers and fries and beers.  My only real complaint is that our burgers were not cooked as ordered.  All 3 of us asked for "medium" and the burgers ranged widely from rare to overdone.  The portion for the fries was a bit skimpy. The atmosphere is generic but the booths are very good sized.

Also be ready to see little kids in this place: It is more a family restaurant than a bar.

Subpar burgers and weak service. Nice outdoor patio for dining but I wouldn't eat here again.

I came here with an old friend for dinner.  We may have eaten here once several years ago, but my real previous experience had been at the one in Princeton, way back when there was a J.B. before the Winberie.

Though there was a nice front patio and it was cool (maybe a bit too cool), we decided to eat inside.  It has the decor I love in a restaurant - upscale pub style.

I ordered the penne pasta with shrimp and spinach.  It had lots of garlic and there was butter added to the olive oil, which made it taste extra good, though not good for me.  The dish comes with feta cheese, which I'm not crazy about, but the waiter said I could change it to any cheese.  I didn't see mozzarella listed anywhere on the menu, so I picked smoked gouda.  I know it was unconventional, but it actually worked!  But my friend and I hadn't seen each other in two years, and we were talking so much that I was concentrating more on the conversation than on the food; my recollection is that there was a lot of spinach, much more than this kind of dish usually has at other places -  I love spinach!  - but skimpy on the shrimp.  What I did appreciate was the availability of the lunch or dinner size.  Even after ordering the lunch size, I still feel like I overdosed on pasta, because the bread was FABULOUS, and I ate too much of it.

My friend decided to go with a quesadilla appetizer and French onion soup.  The quesadilla was a great size, and had a scoop of guacamole on the plate.  She loved the onion soup, which she ordered with "lots of cheese."

My one complaint was the amount of wine in the glass I ordered.  It was brought in one of those little beakers, filled only half-way, and there's no way it was the standard 6 oz pour.

Despite the wine, it was a really good meal in a nice ambience.

Bar food is very tasty and the appetizers are delicious.  However, do not come here if you're on a diet, as there aren't too many healthy options.  They have a nice selection of burgers and beers, which is nice especially during football season (yes, there are TVs).  Summit has some decent restaurants, but I would say this is the best place in town for a burger and a beer.

Cons:  The service...is...very...slow.  Unfortunately, I think they're understaffed, which is management's fault.  Some menu items are needlessly overpriced.

    I'll be back for sure.

Went here for dinner recently. Waiter was very attentive. I got a soup that was phenomenal (cheddar something.) Like the bread they put on the table. Our entire group enjoyed our meals and the place is comfortable, relaxed, with good service. Good variety on the menu and lots of options on special as well.

The menu had a nice variety of choices for dinner.  They ranged from your salads, burgers, and sandwiches... yet you could still get a nice steak or fish entree.  They even have a gluten-free menu that you can request.  The bar menu looked like a wine bar crossed with a microbrewery.  There was a nice selection of both, along with a full bar if you aren't a fan of either.

Winberie's has an offering which can fit regardless of the occasion.  Whether you are in the mood for a few appetizers and some cocktails, or a full meal... you can find it all here.  The place works for families, catching up with friends, or even a date.

They have both indoor and outdoor seating and the service was pretty good.  I'd definitely return to try some of the other things on the menu, and other beers of course.

Just an FYI - If I recall, it does not take reservations for less than 6 people.

My first but not last time at Winberie's, and Summit too--such a cute town. Their front deck is lovely when the weather is nice; it's on the main drag but it's a pretty quiet road, not like eating on a loud avenue (which I never understood the appeal of). Caesar salad was fresh, with a pretty good homemade tasting dressing, not too thin and oily, not creamy bottled glop. The homemade veggie black bean burger was deliteful! So nice to get a homemade burger and not a frozen patty. It was squishy and imperfect, but that's why it was such a good thing. Served with hot, freshly made potato chips or fries, or sub a salad for a few bucks. Good selection of wines by the glass and a nice selection of craft beers, some local like a few from a brewery in Easton, PA. Their lunch goes until 4, which is very civilized; and I noticed they serve brunch--an NJ rarity! The manager came around to the table to ask how things were, and he stopped at all the other tables too. Nice job, Winberie et al!

The Force was with me when I had dinner here. I just flew in on business and had a great meal and great service here. I see that other Yelpers have had a bad experience, but Winberie's was just right when I went there.

All I wanted was a quick dinner salad and the Alsatian Salad was perfect: field greens, chicken, apples, candied walnuts and bleu cheese. I got served within minutes and the chicken was still steaming from the grill. It was delicious.

I had two different waiters call on my table, but then I arrived at 8:30 pm. I got my check immediately and was in and out in less than an hour. Winberie's is basically a nice bar (kids can eat there) with TV screens. If you stick to sandwiches and salads you'll like it.

We went here a few years ago for the brunch. I was not impressed with the food especially for the cost. It should have been a heads up when I saw the place was empty. I haven't gone back again since then so I do not know if it has improved.

The good: the waitress is very lovely providing good service.  Both indoor and outdoor seating. Nice interior design and environment.
The MEH: food was just so so. Not bad, but can't say I'll definitely go back for the bite.
Bottom line: a good place to hang out for an after work drink or happy hour.

Tips: They don't have their own parking lot. But street parking is free after 6pm.

Glad to report that Winberies seems to be back on track. Their Wed nite bartender couldn't be more personable and accommodating to our group.

I just went this past sunday for their brunch--I had no idea what to expect and was surprised to learn it was buffet style. Their range of food was good--from basic breaky favorites (scrambled eggs, bacon, fresh waffles) to fruit, bagel fixings, and even a meat carving station. I was impressed. I thought the price was reasonable (but maybe it is because I am a recent ex-New Yorker and I am used to paying $18 for brunch. I will admit though, in New York, for those prices you would have unlimited mimosas! Now that I am a suburbanite, I don't drink like that or I would be arrested for drunk driving. With that said, I would definitely return for brunch or even for dinner.

Easily a 5 star for me. The accommodation for allergies, the knowledge of the manager,  and the flexibility of the chef created a great meal for us. We reserved the big table which is separate and more private for big parties.  The food was accurate, fast, and delicious.  The server was polite and got the manager for our allergy questions.  Super yum.

Food gets a 3, but service gets a 0.  The food is good in a pinch and when you cant think of where else to go.  My bf is NOT a fan at all, but I have somehow persuaded him to go back a few times.  However, after the service on our last trip we will not be back.  Server erroneously wrote burger instead of cheesburger, when we asked for cheese she took his entire plate to kitchen.  Instead of waiting for them to fix and return, she asked her manager how to add the cost of the cheese to our ticket (really?).  We waited about 10 minutes for her to figure out how to charge us a quarter as we were looking at the burger in the kitchen ready to be brought out.  She overheard me commenting to my bf and actually stopped and made a snide comment.  Glad Winberies got the quarter for that piece of cheese as they lost $50 paying future customers. Its all about the service.

Living in downtown Summit, I have several options for a quick dinner out when I don't feel like cooking--- I tend to head to Winberie's.  The food is always good and the service is always pretty good.

Went again on Saturday with some people from out of town and they were SLAMMED.  Service was a bit lacking but you can excuse that since I think every table was full. Despite all those hungry mouths to feed, the food while a little slow was good and everyone at the table was happy.

It is a huge plus that they have a full bar, and I have gone in there several times late at night with friends and family for snacks and drinks --- always good.

As an app I love the Beer Cheese Fondu, and the Bistro Burger is always a favorite for my meal-- that or a Chopped Salad.

Have been past Winberie's many times and wanted to try it on a nice night, as their outdoor seating with string lights hanging over always appealed to me.  Went there for dinner Saturday night and it was cool.  Awesome space, at least outside.  Really nice patio, flowers, bushes, etc. Very relaxing vibe.  They had a few different Oktoberfest beer specials which was a plus.  Food was good, not great, but good.  I'd recommend it.  Typical American fare (pasta, salads, burgers, etc) with a good selection of beers.

Okay, my fellow Yelpers.  I did the most inappropriate thing before entering this restaurant - I didn't check YELP!  WHY!!!???!!!???

I'm not going to write a long review + True Blood is about to start.  Here you go:

The service was OK, but the food really sucks!  I ordered eat & peel shrimp - the "special" for today (7.00).  I could have gone to Pathmark and ordered steamed shrimp that would have tasted much better!  The cocktail sauce was THICK like tomato paste! - what the hell?!? o_O  I had to squeeze my lemons in the sauce to loosen it up a bit...didn't work.

My burger SUCKED!!! I saw Kobe burger (16.50) on the menu and got excited.  When received, it was a pretty presentation, BUTwhen I cut into the burger I squeezed out fat - yuck.  It tasted like something else NOT even beef.  Upon further examination - the burger looks like a pre-packaged burger like Bubba Burger.  Fat ratio seemed like 70% instead of 85%.  I've cooked Kobe burger and order  Kobe out, so they are LYING if they claim it's Kobe. It's NOT!!!! NOPE.  The worse burger I've had in MY LIFE!

Pro: Sangria was good, but tasted like it was out of a bottle instead of homemade and it was 8.50. SMH!!!  I would have done 100% better at Legal Seafoods - you must taste their Niman Ranch Burger (it's named after a place, not a dressing) :-)

This is one of my favorite places to eat on a lovely summer evening.  The outdoor patio is a great vantage point for people watching!  I'm a big fan of their Kobe burgers.  You don't find too many places that serve them, but more places really should.  The staff is really knowlegeable and friendly.  The prices are a wee bit higher than a chain type restaurant, but nothing outrageous.  They have a pretty decent beer selection, too.

Sigh.  The experience had potential that was severely crumbled!  My coworker and I went here for lunch and sat outside.
Our server started off well, but took a turn toward the useless.
We were forgotten for a bit when it came to refills, and had to request bread that was forgotten until we asked someone else. (Meanwhile, all other 8 tables had bread).  We also had to ask a different person for drink refills.
Upon asking for water, the server used my old iced tea glass rather than getting a new glass?  I don't mind the residual, but that wasn't quite the appropriate thing to do.  And my 'refill' was not of my original drink.
No one checked on our food until toward the end.  My coworker's was cold.
The manager was quite unprofessional.  Didn't acknowledge us, even though she noticed the empty beverage.

My coworker had an HQ card that provides discounts for local areas.  She explained it and provided it to the server.  He asks the manager about it, who ends up standing 3 feet away, watching as he comes back to be messenger pigeon, rather than talking to us herself.  Basically, they had no idea what was going on, so my friend had to pull it up online.  The manager than came up, without introducing herself , and attempted to grab our check book.

My friend had to ask her "are you the manager", and go through the explanation AGAIN.  Then, all of a sudden,  the manager was aware of a promotion, though she was unsure of how to take care of it.

It was an unpleasant experience to get the card back, and quite amusing that a card that's supposed to encourage people to check out new establishments, made the establishment look like an ass.

Nice relaxed bar vibe, but good for families too. This place tries to differentiate by having better than normal wine and spirit selection + menu items that are a step above similar restaurants. Now they just need to work on a few healthier options and I'll add a star!
Perhaps a fresh roasted turkey sandwich on toasted whole wheat bread?

It is disappointing to see the ongoing decline of a restaurant that, while never fantastic, was always at least reliable.  Now, Winberie's isn't even that.  On my most recent visit there (which will probably be my last), I experienced several issues which could have been easily avoided with some basic care and attention of the server and kitchen staff.  I ordered a glass of wine which arrived in a glass that had clearly just come out of the dishwasher.  The glass was hot to the touch (not great for serving wine) but more alarmingly, was still covered with soapy water.  I ordered the Steak Frites with a requested temperature of medium and they arrived still mooing.  I could tell before I even cut into the meat that it was underdone (if the meat is still wobbly, it isn't cooked).  It took a significant amount of time to get the attention of someone who could remedy the situation (my server was nowhere to be found), and then I ended up waiting nearly 20 minutes - for a steak - while my dining companion had completely finished his meal.  I finally got tired of waiting and asked for the check.  To their credit, the restaurant comped the steak (which I didn't eat) and the wine.  I wish I could say that this is the exception for Winberie's, but it has become the rule.

    *3.5 Stars*
I have been here before a while ago and decided to make this a destination of a get together of a few friends. I do remember enjoying the meal last time and it being casual. We went early on a Saturday night. It wasn't too busy and they were able to accommodate 6 of us without a wait. We decided to get a few apps to split amongst the table. Pita chips w/artichoke dip (decent), fried mozzarella (very good but not big portion size), dynamite sticks (good but oily) and Irish Nachos (anything with bacon on it makes it a whole lot better!). For a meal I had the Kobe Beef Burger. It was good but there was something different I couldn't place my taste buds on. It was a unique flavor and I am not sure if I was keen on it. I did try some of the cajun mac and cheese which was good as well. The service was attentive but not overwhelming. Overall a good crowd as the night progressed. The bar started to fill up with lots of couples when we were about to leave. Attire is casual but with a dab of upscaleness...

This is my favorite restaurant in the area. It's perfect for the college crowd, looking for a diversion from the sweaty bars in Morristown. There is never a long wait, and there are usually a few seats at the bar. The drinks are very well-priced and strong. For appetizers, I suggest the Irish Nachos and the Sam Adams cheddar fondue (the best). There is nothing off of the sandwich menu that I wouldn't recommend, although you could make a meal of their appetizers alone. I like the Mediterranean pasta with chicken or one of their huge salads. All in all, it's a perfect night out in Summit.

They run a great happy hour special on bar menu food. Nothing will blow you away, but the burgers are quality (try the Rodeo), the chicken fingers way above average, the frites style fries very good, and the quesadilla a must have. Also, in the winter, you cannot beat the $7.99 Sam Adams cheddar fondue for two, with apples and bread. Steaks, salads and pastas are all forgettable.

Unfortunately, the bar staff is often distracted, and primarily serves the servers, rather than the customers at the bar. They have bizarre policies about the outdoor seating, which is unfortunate because the outdoor area has a lot of potential. The beer list is also woeful, and keeps me from coming here more often.

The Sunday brunch is very good, though a little pricey. Come hungry, but make sure you wait until noon so you can get your free mimosa!

I've been here three times for lunch.  It's in the old opera house and is a very lovely place.  Reasonably priced and a decent bar.  I chose the Four Cheese Grilled Cheese last time - it came with great seasoned fries.  I'd definitely get this sandwich again.  One of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I've had.  I would come back if I was in the area for sure.

I'm in town on business and and thankful that there are places within walking distance of the hotel. I visited Winberie's for dinner late Sunday evening so the restaurant was pretty much empty. I was seated immediately and I had a very sweet girl, Melissa, as my server. I started off with a Mango Mojito, which was just ok, followed by a Caesar Salad which I enjoyed. I was having trouble making my dinner selection, but Melissa happily gave me a few suggestions. I ordered the Shrimp and Spinach Aglio Olio and although I was originally trying to steer away from a pasta dish, I was happy with my choice. All of the ingredients went well together. I had requested the smaller portion, however somehow ended up with the regular one so a bit went to waste.

Overall, Winberie's is a pretty average restaurant. They key point for me was the vicinity to my hotel.

It's a pretty standard restaurant.  We started off with the Irish nachos, which was nothing to write home about (they forgot the guac but didn't charge us, so can't complain).  Irish nachos are basically kettle crisps with bacon bits and chives, served with sour cream.  I got the NY strip, medium, it was cooked well, and the waitress was extremely polite and always there when you needed her for another beer and to check on us.  Ended the meal with the banana cream pie (excellent) and a glass of Cockburns.  Again, nothing spectacular, just an all around decent place to grab a bite to eat.

It's good, but prefer the "old" Winberies a bit more. The newer version is nice, don't get me wrong, but is definitely more upscale than before. I don't know if Winberie's still has a brunch, but my husband, mother-in-law and I would go often.

It's kind of loud since it's more open. The outdoor seating in the Spring, Summer and early fall is really nice though.

This is not a restaurant that seems to attempt anything stand-out, but rather exists to do the "basics" of casual dining such as they are in a rather upsacle town like Summit (or Ridgewood, or Princeton, as it is part of a small chain).

We hit this on Friday after Thanksgiving for lunch with a large group and were quite pleased with the food selections and drink offerings.  No appetizers on our table, but a good array of burgers, salmon club, etc. all of pleasing flavor and properly prepared.  Service was perfectly attentive if a bit slow - well suited to our leisurely needs on this occasion, perhaps not ideal for all uses.  Acid test - the grilled chicken topping a salad was tasty and well-prepared, the kind of thing so often done poorly and that should get you a BAD review.

Dessert - yes.  Banana cream pie, check; Toll House pie, check; creme brulee, ah, not so much.  A destination restaurant does the latter very well.  This is a pleasant place, but not a true destination.

Completely uninspired food and menu.  Decent beers on tap (Anchor Steam, Sam Summer, Stella, etc.).  Toll house cookie pie.  Outdoor seating.  That's about all I can say.

Winberies is a chain restaurant that doesn't feel like a chain so its a great family spot, or place to bring a group, just dont expect to be dazzled.

Fairly typical 'americana/pub' menu.  Decent food, i guess.

I really like this place, but it is hard to explain why.

it almost has a chain restaurnt feel (actually it might be one, but I have never seen another so i am assuming it is a stand alone)

they have good, but expensive drinks and decent bar area to sit it. they also have pretty nice outside seating, although it is at the end of busy street in summit so there is not a lot of foot traffic for people watching but a lot of car traffic.

The food has always been great when I have went. Bread that sandwhiches are served on is usually fresh, and the quality of the ingredients seems to be high quality.

I recomend the Sam Adams fondue as an app, it is delicious and good to share. it comes with bread and sliced green apples. Also, my favorite thing on the menu is Pita Chips. the only problem with them is that they are SOOOOO filling.

For dinner I have had a lot of thing and they are all really good. Last time I was there I had a honey mustard chicken sandwhich and it was great. Very fresh grilled chicken that was not even a little dry, cooked perfect.

obviously this is not some fancy restaurant, but instead of going to Friday or Applebee's, I come here. it is the perfect substitution.

they also have good deserts and coffee. it is a great local place to stop in on a week night or late on a friday night
