Was hoping to dig up a late night taco joint close by, and I would qualify Zacatecas as passable especially given the low prices.   I would say that it's not as good as El Cid or Carniceria Jimenez, but it's a hell of a lot better than the completely inedible Costa Allegre.  They've got a fairly wide menu including some weekend specials like carnitas.

I think I finally found my Lazo's/Arturo's replacement with Zacateca's.  The tacos were good, better than Costa Alegre but not quite as good as Panderia la Mexicana.  I didn't like the beans.  They were rather dry.  Big plus for being open (relatively) late in the neighborhood.  The price was right for a quick taco dinner, close to home, open late nights.  For now it has earned my title of Lazos replacement.

My husband and I typically go here with my brother and his wife. I haven't had anything bad here ever and I've eaten here many many times. Their queso fundido is great, enchiladas suizas are excellent but as always I like to always go back to my steak tacos.  I just loooooove me some carne asada. Its also BYOB, wine only but I wish I could bring some margaritas. That would just top it off!

the "express" connotes that there is a take out counter specializing in sandwiches, licuados, juices, coffees, lunch combos, and so on. there is a full menu available for dining in though, and it includes my holy grail of mexican cuisine, albondigas. almost. it's the type of albondigas where the meatballs are served with potatoes & carrots and some kind of gravyish sauce on top. not my first choice if there's soup to be had, but i guess it at least curbs my craving somewhat while my quest for the sopa continues.

I really like all of the Zacatecas restuarants in the area and you really can't go wrong but since this one is within walking distance I go here more often. The food is above average and the prices really can't be beat(especially their breakfast specials) my only qualm is whenver I go there the waitresses don't speak any english whatsoever. I find myself pointing at what I want on the menu and hoping they get it right which they do a majority of the time they do

Had my birthday lunch here--light, comfortable atmosphere, good food. Lip-smacking cheese quesadilla, nicely grilled. The accompanying rice and beans were also full of flavor (I even loved them as leftovers--the serving was generous). Beautiful designs painted on the mosaic tile floor and walls. Friendly service. And, oh, yeah, the rice pudding--which was a little thinner than I usually like--was delicious anyway. Street parking (a couple of the parking meters weren't working but we didn't get a ticket).
