Apparently the secret to the best potato salad I've ever had is bacon. Yep it really does make everything better including a wonderfully creamy and savory potato salad. The portabello sandwich I had with it was also quite good...the server was also nice enough to warn me that the potato salad side had meat even though I ordered a vegetarian main. All in all a good lunch.

Though I'd have to say the jazz night I witnessed later could use a bit better acts. I am sure it's partially due to my limited stay, but this "jazz band" was less Miles, Herbie or Dizzie and more that red-headed singer from "Lost In Translation," except not even quite that good and only accompanied by a Casio.

Ah well, if I ever make it  back to Kansas City (which I've weirdly visited two springs in a row very randomly), I'll try this place again and see if this legendary city of jazz springs forth from hotel restaurants.

First visit to 12 Baltimore Cafe before the Black Keys concert and overall I really liked it.  It has an old school feel to it with big leather chairs and crushed velvet benches.  They did a great job of keeping the historical feel to the place while having an updated modern look.

They have about 12 handcrafted cocktails and those in our group that had them enjoyed them.  The food was pretty good, nothing spectacular, but definitely tasty.  We had the homemade truffle tater tots and black and blue appetizers.  I might have built the tots up too much in my head because they were good, but not appreciably better than a regular frozen variety.  The black and blue was real good and a nice appetizer to share with a group.  After we had the apps we just decided to split a sandwich.  Just your average run of the mill sandwich, nothing noteworthy.

They weren't real busy on a Sunday night so it was nice to take our time, have a few cocktails, and talk amongst friends.  I'd definitely recommend it and look forward to going back.

I was here for Restaurant Week this year and absolutely loved it.  I got a 2-course $15 lunch that included SCALLOPS and a great, warm soup (which was very welcome in January, I assure you).

Have never been here for lunch before but it's just as good as the great evenings I've spent here.
