Damn you, Barney's! So understated at first, and seemingly, so very basic at first glance, so why can't I get you out of my head now that I'm on the east coast nearly a year later?!
This place is cozy, funky and really fun. My uncle took my husband and I here when we were in L.A. last September as part of our drive up the Cali coast honeymoon (from San Diego to San Fran) and we were happily surprised at this place! Each one of us had different chili offerings, but all 3 of them were amazingly delicious. We loved it so much that we came back for breakfast the next day and had some great spicy options. Really awesome place - I wish we had a location in NYC. I would be there in a heartbeat. Until then, I'll have to just daydream about this badass chili and charming dive spot!!
I mean it is what it is and I'm happy that Barney's contributes to the not to many bars here in Westwood.
Been here a few times and the food is okay. Best time to come would probably be happy hour where appetizers are priced at a more reasonable rate.
Great service when it's slow but can be a little slow when its busy.
Also this is a great place to sit down and catch a beer or two while meeting up with someone during non-peak hours!
This place is really cool.
It was my first time here on Margarita night and there was Karaoke night as well. However this is not a regular bar, it surely is a Sports bar. They have like at least 40 TVs everywhere for you to enjoy games and stuff like that. The crowd is more in the late 20s but overall, if you're coming to chill with friends without the loud music it can be nice, just don't come on karaoke night because some of their voices can get really annoying! The service is excellent and the girls are always on top of their table so that's good and they focus on their sales  a lot. They always push for more drinks and in my opinion, if i owned that place, that's what I would want.
A fun spot - big booths, lots of personality & random decor, air hockey table in the back. Met up with some friends here during Pride and had a fun time.
My friends got wings, nachos, a bunch of bar food. Decent quality and you get huge serving sizes.

(malibu rum, midori melon & pineapple juice. Topped with fluffy whipped cream. $8)
A fun bright green drink. Both sweet and tart, though a little more on the tart side. Whipped cream on top adds sweetness, and it definitely made me tipsy without tasting too heavy on the alcohol!
I like Barney's Beanery. It's my go-to place when I want to have a couple of drinks, chill around without having to deal with a crazy, rowdy and noisy crowd. I also love the feel of the place, the way it's designed. Just a great feel - and the red lights are pretty damn awesome.
Food is not so good, but it's decently priced for the amount that you get. Servers and bartenders always make sure you're doing all right. Be sure to take advantage of their specials everyday - they serve some good ones!
I visited Barneys for lunch during a work day which is quite different than my usual night time visit.
It was a lovely day and the patio is a perfect place to enjoy your food and people watch. I ordered the California Cobb salad and it was absolutely delicious. They were not skimpy with any of the ingredients...although I could have used more lettuce... who says that, right? haha.
As a table we ordered a few appetizers including the fried pickle slices, jalapeno poppers that are filled with mac and cheese and the loaded nachos. All were decent. However, it is what is expected greasy and heavy food. I just wasn't feeling it, but maybe when I'm enjoying some ciders and watching a game!
I have to say that I had some bad experiences with Barney's food  in the past, but this experience turned me around.
Barney's is the spot where I'm usually at when having lunch during work. Â Angie is always attentive behind the bar, and can always be counted on for recommendations on anything to eat or drink.
Sports fan? Â Drop on in, and watch practically any game/match on their countless TVs. Â Find myself watching 3 or 4 games simultaneously because Barney's has all of them covered.
You need somewhere to stop by for a quick drink or bite during or after work in Westwood? Â Barney's is your spot. Â Check out their all day happy hour specials and their daily deals they have on food and beverages.
I've became a fan after eating at the location on 3rd St. Promenade last super bowl. Never been back because I don't be in that area that often but I do remember the burgers were amazing and the brews were cheap... well some of the brews were cheap. Some of the craft brews they offer for $10+ is only $3.99-$7 at BevMo and Total Wine so be very careful and aware. They have an all-day happy hour on select brews and $3.50 Stella Monday's. I believe they offer over 200 craft and domestic brews.
Service:
Nothing to run home and tell the neighborhood about. They have seat yourself seating so good luck finding a table downstairs but the patio and the upstairs have a few spaces available. Our waitress that evening took 10 minutes plus walking by our table twice before she acknowledged us and that was just for her to say she'll be back to take drink orders. When she came back she got our water orders and finally gave us a menu. After that she was sweet and checked on us twice the whole hour plus we were there. The upstairs bartender was a light-skinned black dude who was pretty awesome to take my brew order and deliver it to our table.
Food:
The menu is friggin' huge!! They saerve breakfast all day, build your own potatoe skins or baked potato; build your own burgers and a famous chili menu. I've decided to order the Juicy Lucy burger and added carnitas and bbq sauce.. quite a bit of a fail. The patty was kids meal size as the bun towered over it and the carnitas I've added was burnt black and fatty, no pork and the waitress informed me it would be pulled pork but it was chunks and the bbq was on the side O_o
Overall:
Great place to have some brews and enjoy food (depending on what you order). It's conveniently around the corner from home so I don't see why I wouldn't return. Unfortunately my phone died while dining or else I would've attached photos of my meal.
WORST Barneys ever! First, It took the waiter 10 minutes to see us on the patio. Than, we have been sitting for 20 minutes- no reaction. He brought us the drinks and this is it. It's hilarious how bad the service can be. The waiter didnt seem to are at all that 3 people were starving and waiting for more than 30 min! I will NEVER go there again! Â Strongly do NOT advice to e en try it. Santa Monica's Barneys is 100 times better!
Review Source:The reason why I'm giving it 2 STARS is because I think they need to do a better job of cleaning their BEER GLASSES. Â They were really kind of gross. Â
On the brighter side, I do like the space here. Â 2 LEVELS. Â LOTS of televisions. Â Like the watch multiple televisions at once kind of thing. Â Generally serves the UCLA crowd and can get crowded with a bunch of college kids but oh well. Â
Next time, I'm going to try some of the food. Â I only had drinks here. Â Fair selection of beer.
Barney's has become the default go-to place for me in Westwood. I've grown rather fond of it and is what I'll remember Westwood for. It just has a little bit of everything and something for everyone. The first time I came here, I was blown away by the sheer number of tv screens suspended in the air. The wow factor really did work on me. For that reason, it's easily become the place I gravitate to whenever there's something important to watch, wether it's the State of the Union address or a UCLA-Cal game. The sound is unreliable though and the noise level is usually a high buzz.
Beers on tap and bottles, ranges from cheap to interesting. I usually go for the cheapo Barney's Brew, $3.50 per pint every day any time. They also have a liter mug for $6. It's a lager and their house brew. I do have to say that I had my first banana beer here and it was delicious. They have some nice pricey bottled stuff too, like Hitachino, but I'd rather walk over to the Whole Foods for that.
The menu is huge, but the food isn't spectacular, but does the job. They do everything. Get breakfast for dinner. I can vouch for the mac and cheese and the fried pickles. Definitely love the chili here though. That's the namesake and they do it well. Who knows what they put in it, but I can't make chili like that at home. Try the chili sampler. I like the Fireman's best. The jalepeno corn muffin is pretty good too. They also have half off appetizers during happy hour.
"Smores" dessert is just store bought Graham crackers and disgusting Hershey's chocolate bar ($1 at the grocery store). Can't believe they have the nerve to serve and charge for this garbage that involves just opening a couple wrappers...the marshmallows were also store bought. Shame on you.
Review Source:Barney's Beanery-Westwood Village - 3 Stars: a neat little two-story sports bar in Westwood Village with more TVs than one could possibly look at. They even have a little seating area in the back of the 2nd floor where a larger group can sit in tiered seats to watch the action. Nice beer selection, many on draft. We went for the beer, so I couldn't fairly talk about the food. Looked good though.
Review Source:Out of all the choices for Happy Hour in the Westwood Village, it amazes me that my co-workers want to go this place. I am pretty convinced it's because they want to check out the co-eds/ the 20 something's or relive their youth in some way. Other than watching a "game" which you can do at the wine bar down the street- there is no other reason anyone above the age of 25 should be here. For the none-hipster, or mid-life crisis types, there are many choices for Happy hour, and Happy hour pricing in the vicinity,
The Upside:
Service is pretty good here. The servers are attentive and you get seated immediately. Â The place is pretty lively and is just your typical sports bar, nothing fancy. They have a great selection of beers and other drinks and have a very big menu for food and serve large portions.
The Downside:
Well it's a sports bar, so expect high calorie, low quality, high cholesterol food. The décor is not much to be desired for; License plates on walls, along with vinyl records on the ceiling, Christmas lights all year round and just dark and dingy. Think frat house meets barn in Middle America, meets dorm room.
TIPS: Park across the street in the structure, 2 -hours free before 6PM, $3 flat thereafter. Show Bruin card get 20% off meal.
Would you believe that after four years of undergrad in Westwood, I have NEVER once stepped into this place? NEVER. Yeah, I quickly changed that after a friend of mine decided to go here.
Went for lunch on a Friday afternoon; not too busy for a place that would be prime time for a lunch rush. Decor was a typical sports bar; stools with random sports teams logos, license plates plaster all over the walls and cutouts of famous people on any given area, so you could say that you were literally eating with them.
I wasn't in a big daring mood to try anything and listened to my friends suggestion by getting the Barney Burger, A simple burger with nothing special, a good way to test the waters. Let's just say there really isn't anything to write about; it's just a burger and fries. I ordered what I said I was going to order and I got what I wanted.
Service was okay; didn't take too long for the food to get out; however, it did take a while to get the check.
THEY SERVE GREEN BEER ON ST. PATRICK'S DAY THAT IS NOT WATERED DOWN! And, it was the cheapest green beer in Westwood. I'm glad I finally managed to stumble in here, because these facts alone bumped up my experience with Barney's.
I generally enjoyed the environment and the ambiance--there's something about tacky movie posters and celebrity magazine cut outs that will always have a special place in my heart. It made waiting for the waiter to come take our order more bearable..,because I was literally about to walk out right before the waitress finally saw my party. Â My party and I sat for fifteen minutes without being noticed...at 11:30 pm. There was no major game on, so I felt as though there was no excuse for being so inattentive
.They also took away their infamous Bruin menu. So long are the good deals. I'm definitely not paying full price for their mediocre bar food here.
Long story short, come for the drink specials they have occasionally and for the atmosphere. Skip the food (unless you get really drunk and feel so inclined to order an expensive cheeseburger), and be aggressive  with your servers.
The food actually isnt bad here....The pizzas are good portions and everything else taste like regular bar food...i like this location b/c its never as busy as the one in santa monica...they have a small theatre-like seating thats for big games. it was a nice try but didnt really turn out that convenient. A for effort though!!!
Review Source:Ugh. Did not want to go here to begin with but was roped into it by lack of choice and knowledge of Westwood/UCLA area dining. I should learn to always have a place in mind in whatever area I 'visit' in LA.
We got seating immediately. Food was decent. We sat on the benches outside. And for some reason, of 2 different groups sitting in the booth behind us, there was a leg shaker who would shake our bench with there's. So, we had to ask each group to stop. And don't get me wrong. As much as I sound in this post like the one to do it. It wasn't me. Anyways...
Food was decent. Everyone seemed satisfied.
Service during the meal was good. I had a million cups of coffee and refills on water. But when we settled the bill, it came out wrong and caused issues at our table because someone was 'over paying'. It wasn't until I got back to the car that I realized they ran the credit cards and cash wrong. Not giving us the full amount of cash on the bill. Super irritating and really untrustworthy. I understand mistakes happen, but not with cash. Otherwise, just do separate checks and offer it, if the math is too much for you. I feel like this has happened before at other BBs. Is this a consistent thing others have experienced?
Boo.
Eh... Just eh.
My roommates and I came here around 11 on a Thursday night, and there were only a handful of people inside. But since loud music (and karaoke) was on, it wasn't awkwardly quiet or boring.
We sat at the bar and waited quite a while for the bartender to return from the stage (this guy is amazing at rap, evidently). When he finally approached us, he was friendly and enthusiastic, and listed whatever kinds of whatever drinks we asked about along with their respective prices. We each had a few shots, and at one point, I joked about us going up to sing. And he actually went and signed us up! I thought he was just joking along, but nope. The MC definitely called our names, loud and clear.
So... roommate and I went up to sing, and the MC was a bit rude about our reluctance to perform as well as our indecision of song choice. His impatience leaked through his voice, and we were just so flustered. Finally, we settled on a song, and he wasn't mean anymore (not that I could tell, anyway).
Afterward, we ordered some fries, which were just okay. The menu was expansive, but everything was a bit pricey.
When they were about to close, the bartender--who, at this point, I realized was really cute--put three drinks on the bar and said, "This is for Wendy and friends," then vaguely pointed in front of him to say, "He got this for you guys."
So, my roommate awkwardly approached the guy and thanked him for the drinks. He looked utterly confused, and said he hadn't ordered us drinks, but "In retrospect, (he) should have." Confused we all were now, until it dawned on us that the bartender himself had given us the drinks! So nice of him! It was like a cranberry vodka, but with a little bit of a few other things (couldn't hear him clearly over the music)--and it was delicious!
Overall, not as busy and upbeat as I had hoped and a bit pricier than I would have liked, but the bartender was really cute and he gave us free drinks, so maybe I'll go back anyway.
Note: Rating is for the Westwood location only.
The food literally looks fake.
That's how bad it is! Have you seen that " I Love Lucy" episode where Lucy tries to fold a sandwich in half, but the cheese won't comply? The sandwich keeps unfolding as if the cheese is made out of plastic. Well, there you have it--a visual for Barney's Beanery food.
Initially, I was so impressed with the menu which offered an eclectic variety (Italian, American, Mexican, Breakfast, Asian, etc.). I should have known nothing could be remotely good with the selection so varied. I'm positive they must be opening cans of food and tv dinners back in the kitchen.
The 2 stars are for the convenience of space to sit with a friend and drink some beers while watching some sports tv.
TIP: Try the location in Santa Monica -so  awesome for happy hour and some beers. Good and cheap chicken wings, quesadillas and mozzarella sticks to name a few.  Don't know what happened to this location--so unfortunate.
The allure of Barney's beanery has passed.
The first time we went there, we liked the number of tvs and the chili. Each time after that we are less and less impressed with this place. We went this weekend because ohara's wasn't open yet.
We don't eat the food anymore because it is so bad. We just went for a drink until something else opened. First, there were no seats at the bar. So we started up the stairs and sat at a table. No one helped us for about ten minutes. We moved to a different area and the waitress came by and said she would be back to take our order. She was friendly but it honestly took 20 minutes to get a drink. Unacceptable. Won't be back unless it is really necessary.
Lunch tip: Always ask your waitress for their lunch specials. They're usually under $8 and always delicious.
I come to Barney's at least once a week for lunch. They have very good food, no matter what you're craving.
Their salads are HUGE, I can't even finish a half portion on my own.
One of the things I love the most about Barney's is the variety. You can get a burgers, salad, seafood, Tex-Mex, soups...and of course, chili!!
Everything is always so fresh and flavorful.
Their staff is very friendly and offer great customer service.
Overall, this place is great.
Barney's Beanery on Broxton does NOT NEED 5 stars to attract the many people they do on the daily basis! Providing many TV screens with sports at every corner of the building, Barney's attract many sports fan and bar-goers. Â My friend and I are one of the many regulars here and we enjoy both the food and drinks.
The lively atmosphere and friendly workers combined with unique seating options make this place an excellent location for hanging out. Â On football Sundays (especially this season leading up to the Superbowl), the wait can be as long as 3 hours if you didn't plan ahead to snatch a seat. Â Everyone can be seen cheering for their favorites loudly, especially when a UCLA team is playing. Â I generally enjoy watching the SF 49ers, SF Giants, and occasionally the Golden State Warriors and SJ Sharks dominate in their respective sports here (I'm from SJ/SF). Â GO NINERS! WIN THE SUPERBOWL!
Food ranges from excellent to decent. The Asian chicken wings are perfectly glazed in a flavorful sauce, but still is crispy. Â Order more than 6 of these! The potato skins are also delicious, crispy, and the toppings (chili, cheese) makes you want more of it. Â I also like the crispy battered mushrooms and you can't get these at many other places. Â For drinks, the Angry Orchard Apple draft is DELICIOUS! The Long Island Ice Teas are also tasty (and full of EtOH), so beware!
Service is excellent and the workers try to establish good relationships with you. Â There is a secret mini-stadium like area in the back upstairs if you really wanna see the game up close. Â You don't have to be a sports fan to enjoy this place, but it is the best place for sports fans in Westwood. Â Go put on your favorite jersey, hat or attire and come out here!
Reviewing for the sports bar.
Pretty easy to get drinks- even though they're quite pricey, but where are they not?
Big big tv screen to watch the game with plentiful seating in front of the screen. Drinks and football, what more do you need?
There's parking nearby in lots that aren't too pricey. Pretty easy to get to and pretty enjoyable.
Packed on a Thursday evening, my friends and I met up here before heading to the Cal/UCLA game. My buddy was a Bruin Alum, so he was able to get some Bruin Special and the burger was $5. His gf paid for the meal, so the average burger turned out to be an absolutely delicious burger! The fries were good, too.
Bottomline: great atmosphere, and my friend also ordered a fruity beer. I forget what it was, but it was a peach beer and it was pretty amazing! A bit pricey for it though, I think it was ~$12 a bottle.
Wanted to go to BJ's down the street, but ended up here. I've been going to the Hollywood Location for years and this was my first coming to this one. The place was packed and loud. There are probably 100 flat screens in this place. It's bordering on the absurd.
With no host/ess to seat you, you have to walk around and try and figure out where to sit. Since there wasn't a single open spot, we had to hover near a booth that we saw had just gotten their bill. Once they got up to leave, we pounced on the booth and sat there waiting for the dirty plates to be bussed.
Once that happened we had to wait some more time for our server to take our order. Service wasn't terrible, wasn't great either...but the place was packed, so I knew it wouldn't be great,
I ordered the half tuna sandwich and French Onion soup combo, the wife ordered the vegetarian chili, and my sister ordered the hot wings.
If I see French Onion soup on the menu, I'm ordering it. Hamburger Hamlet sets the bar for me when it comes to FO soup,..on a scale of 1-10, Barney's version was about a 2. Hardly any cheese, just a single small slice sort of floating atop the broth. None of the cheese draped over the side of the bowl. The cheese hadn't even completely melted because the soup was warm - at best.
The tuna sandwich was decent...pretty hard to screw that up though.
The hot wings were definitely the best item ordered - and luckily my sister ordered enough to share. Very spicy and meaty.
The chili was ok, not great.
All-in-all a 3-star experience.
I'm sure if you go there to watch a game with some friends, you'll have a great time if you can find a seat.
I prefer the Hollywood location though.
For someone who rarely goes to a bar, I have to say I love the atmosphere of this place. My group of about 20 people had a reservation and we had a section of the bar all to ourselves for the whole evening here. The staff who served us for the night were extremely nice and efficient. They got all our order right and the food and drink were delivered very quickly.
For drinks, I didn't order any alcohol so I can't comment on their quality, but I did enjoy my V8 tomato juice quite a bit (maybe because it has been a long time since I had them).
What I like about this place is definitely the number of televisions here, not to mention those television screens are gigantic. Pretty much every sport channel is covered for the night and there is bound to be something for everyone (so sad to see the both the Lakers and the Bobcats lost tonight though). And because of the number of televisions here, this place gets really loud. I was having a conversation with several people and I had to scream at the top of my lungs just to get the other person to hear me.
I'm sure this place would be packed with Bruins when their games are playing. I think I would come out just for the experience someday considering I'm one of them.
Overall, if your favorite sport team is playing for the night, definitely come check this place out. I'm sure you will enjoy your experience here a lot!
Ok. The quick and dirty of Barney's:
Good:
-TV's up the ying-yang. Seriously. There's personal TV's at the table, huge monolithic TV's at the bar, there's a projector upstairs with a mini-stadium seating setup, there's even huge 60'+ TV's on the staircase. TV's everywhere. This is like 5 sports bars combined. It's ridiculous. And it's FREE. To you NFL/MLB/NBA fans that may not mean much but I'm a UFC fan and 95% of places I've seen that stream UFC will charge a cover (around $10) to enter during the fights. Half the time I don't even get food. It get's packed though so try to get there a bit early.
-Service has always been awesome. I've just sat a table for 2 hrs watching the fights and ordered next to nothing and they never pressured me or anything. Great, understanding staff.
-The decor is SO GOOD. So much attention to detail. Barney's used to be a pitstop for truckies (it opened in the 20's) but eventually turned into a celebrity/hollywood oriented roadhouse. Janis Joplin had her last drink there. Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison all hung out there. Tarantino wrote most of Pulp Fiction there. That's some rich Hollywood history. And the decor reflects it. Any one vaguely familiar with cultural history will be astounded by how specific the decor is. The tables have pictures of 90's celebrities from end to end...and each table has DIFFERENT pictures meaning it's not some cardboard cut-out tapestry they put over the table. The walls are lined with license plates, the bathroom with magazine clippings. The whole thing is basically a work of art. I mean, if someone called it a quasi Hollywood museum I wouldn't disagree.
Bad:
-The food isn't anything to shit your pants over.I mean it's what you expect of your classic diner. For Bruins, they have a really cool Bruin menu where everything is $5--which is a really good price in Westwood.
Overall, it depends on what you go there for. Don't go there just for the food. Go for the ambiance, the TV's, the price (if you're a Bruin, although regular prices are pretty normal...think $10-12) and the full experience. You come here for only the food you'll probably have an average experience.
For some reason, I've never eaten lunch here. Â Can't really explain why, but after a productive meeting, it was time to blow off some steam. Â Barney's has an absurd amount of televisions showing sports and WAIT!!!! THE RYDER CUP IS ON! Â Umm... can the kitchen make my food super extra slow? Â The Ryder cup is on!
I got the ruben sandwich and it was pretty good. Â I really wanted french fries, but it's great that they offer healthy sides, too, so I got a small salad with honey mustard dressing. Â The food definitely gets 3 stars but if your favorite game is on TV, this is a great place. Â Barney's must be packed on Saturdays when the UCLA game is on!
I'm bumping up to 5 stars because the last time I came, I brought 12 international students with me, and our server seated us in front of the TV AND split all our bills (12 bills)! Too bad I didn't get her name, but she was so great. I made sure to tell everybody to leave her a good tip!
Everything on the Bruin menu is $5 (UCLA students/staff get this perk), but it's a secret menu that changes constantly so you have to ask the server. Our lady was nice enough to write it all down for us to look at, then wait patiently for everybody to make their orders. I had a $5 dinner that night!
Barney's is always a safe bet for a place to meet up.
Good selection of beers, good vibe, funny karaoke sometimes, some games...
This is a good place to meet up with people in Westwood, maybe come here before or after a movie. Â
The adjacent parking lot is only $3.00 for parking, that is actually amazing!!!
Two Barney visits in a week span. This time I found myself at the Westwood Village location.
While at the farmer's market I could hear all the oohs and ahhs coming from this place. The moment I stepped in I heard chants of "Italia Italia Italia!" then counters of "Germany Germany Germany!" If you read my previous Barneys experience I was overjoyed with the authenticity I found of the fans cheering on their countries. I guess that's the anthropologist in me not being ego-centric.
This place was PACKED
I walked around in the first floor then up the stairs where there is a flat portion that had seating with 3 flat screen tvs but nothing. So I went up to the second floor and I found nada. Business looked like it was booming today.
Would I be back?
If there is a big sporting event I would plan to get here early and parking isn't such a pain if you park in the structure across the street or the lot next to the place itself.
