I've had some good sushi in Ballard but you simply cannot beat the sushi and cocktails here. Especially if you pop in for Happy Hour!

I happened upon this spot during ladies night and not only did I eat great HH priced food, I got a 1/2 price drink too.

I know there are skeptics (like myself) that want to think that maybe HH food quality isn't good or they skimp on portions, but I left here feeling so full and so happy that I wish I lived closer to Ballard just to take advantage of eating here more often. And the food was crazy fresh and delicious. Just thinking about it makes me wish I could eat there again tonight.

A fan of traditional sushi and sashimi, I ordered a little bit of everything. But also a proud fan of fusion and trying new things, I had to get the Super Bad Boy roll. It's ridiculously good and I can't visit without getting it.

What I also loved about this place was that while there's a very relaxed, fun, and casual feel, the food is taken seriously and so are the drinks. The bartenders weren't just mixing up sugary garbage, the menu was chock-full of interesting options with everything from shrubs to bourbon to sake.

Good sushi and great service. We stopped in during Seafoodfest, not knowing they had happy hour prices all day on Sunday. We thought the prices were fair and the quality of the sushi was good. The waiter kept our water glasses filled and we thought the service was very attentive. We really liked the decor as well.
We sent our first drink back with no hassle. We weren't big on the second drink, either, but I think if we stuck to basics we would have been OK.
    We'd go back.

Great little sushi spot that we didn't even realize existed! Came to find out we were there when they were updating their menu so they were doing happy hour all the time! Ordered some drinks which came right away despite being so busy then ordered food which came just as quick as well. Kind of wish their sushi roll selection was a little bigger but for what they did offer, it was pretty damn tasty and cheap. Can't wait to come back!

Riddle: When is happy hour not happy hour?
Answer: When you have 2 1/2 hours of "Beach Hours" at Billy Beach Sushi!

The Youngest took me last night for my birthday and do these folks have it all together while at the same time giving us an extreme value!  First, I want to give a shout-out to the servers at this place.  Friendly, attentive and the house has them all working the floor so a bartender might bring you your drink, the hostess might clear a plate and take a drink order or another server might bring your food.  Amazing work!

Now, to Beach Hours.  Monday thru Saturday from 5pm to 7:30pm.  Thursday to Saturday from 10pm to close.  All day Sunday.  An amazing bargain and a huge value.  $1 miso?  $4 sake?  Spicy Yellowtail Roll for $5?!!  Seriously?  And we aren't talking smaller portions here, we are talking VALUE and excellent food.  We had a 9 piece sashimi plate for $10 and the quality was amazing.  Melt in your mouth amazing.  Have I mentioned that the place is amazing?  Oh, don't forget the Karaage with Karashi Cream!  Delish.

To top it all off, they have some limited outdoors seating and it appears to be kid friendly because there were a bunch of little munchkins in the joint so you parents can get your sushi on as well.

Best sushi happy hour this side of the city. Great prices on quality fish, even out of HH.

Not to be missed: Edomae Tuna

Tamago had good texture but was a little too sweet for me, but nobody makes it like Jiro's disciples, so no contest there.

Service is fantastic, everyone is attentive and friendly. Sat outside during seafood fest and really enjoyed our meal as we watched street food vendors commit at least a half dozen food safety violations. Glad we chose to eat at Billy Beach instead!

BBSB is kind of like a pared-down, laid-back Japonessa. As we all know, the owner/chef, Billy Beach, owns both and it shows.

We came here for all-day Sunday happy hour and had:
    -2 orders of edamame
    -chirashi bowl
    -super bad brother roll
-roll of the week which was a salmon, cucumber and other items roll with a sweet sauce on top. It had a ridiculous name...Lady something...as I've come to connotate these types of sushi spots with
    -Ballard roll
    -spicy tuna roll
    -fatty tuna roll
    -sweet potato roll

I was impressed by the size of the chirashi bowl for $12! I think there were about 15 slices of sashimi in there. I could definitely happily chow down on that just as  an entree for a single person if we didn't share. The rice and seaweed salad was delicious as I have come to know Billy Beach's rice and seaweed is.

The rolls were all pretty good (I did not try the Ballard roll). I was impressed there was a fatty tuna roll on the menu. The sweet potato roll was a surprise- I don't really believe in eating sushi without seafood in it but my friend wanted to try it. Did it taste like sushi with fish or authentic in the least? Absolutely not but it was surprisingly good!

The prices at happy hour are excellent! We had all that food plus 4 drinks and before tax and tip, our bill was around $75! Split by the 4 of us, it worked out really well.

I like this place. The fish is fresh and the rolls are fun but there are not as many varieties as there are at Japonessa. The menu is a lot smaller and the ingredients less vast. It's also more casual and as I said, laid-back, which can be a good or bad thing. I think its a great addition to the rapidly-up-and-coming Ballard scene.

I'm pretty loyal to Shiku, but I took a chance to try out 'Billy Ocean's' (as I call it). The prices are awesome during their Beach Hour (happy hour). The rolls are great and the service is good. The place was busy on a tuesday early evening, so that's a good sign for the business. I wish them well, I love sushi, and I'll be back for more!

We were very happy to find this place after striking out at a couple restaurants (one was closed and another didnt let kids in) 2 hungry kids after going to the Ballard farmers market. I give this place not because the food was 5 stars but because if the happy hour deal. The prices at happy hour for what you get was fantastic. $5 rolls and karaage. $1 miso soup and salad. Great for families and kids for lunch!

I feel conflicted writing how wonderful BBSB is knowing that another 5 star review will surely attract additional attention and customers thus making this place more crowded than it is now.

However all good things deserve recognition and this is by far one of the best sushi restaurants in Seattle which I can say in good confidence having been there 8 times since they opened and have interacted with all their staff who are just amazing.

No matter matter where you sit one will find the staff to be super friendly and knowledgeable regardless of where they are seated.  Sometimes the wait for a table can be long but don't be shy if there is room at the bar and be prepared for an amazing experience as you will have the pleasure of meeting Shane and Cameron who can concoct amazing cocktails and recommend the right pairings; Sweet Potato Shoju and Aka Ebi sushi with fried Shrimp Heads or go crazy with the Omakase.  You cannot go wrong.

    I love this place!

Ohh, Ballard. Ohh, Japonessa. Why you gotta slay me together at Billy Beach?  The owners of the quick-fresh-cheap sushi staple of downtown that is Japonessa spread their sushi love to Ballard, and good gawd did they spread it.

Located brand new in the old Paratii spot right on Leary Way and Market St, the place got a decent facelift (I guess the designers were pretty smart to ditch the old cachaca- soaked sinking pirate ship motif of the former Paratii bar) and made it into sushi heaven.

ALL DAY HAPPY HOUR SUNDAY certainly added to my positive first impression. There was a great assortment of rolls for $4-6 dollars, miso for $1, appetizers for around the same price, and the star of the show, a bento box full of fresh fish and salad, and a spicy salmon roll for $14. Sold. The salmon stole the show, I have no idea why some people are picky about salmon when it tasted this fresh and perfect.  Mild and clean tasting, perfectly firm with wonderful color and a lightly dressed salad accompaniment. The whole box was filling but not heavy, flavorful but still "clean." I had a starter of seaweed salad that I could eat a whole quart of.

While I can think of a few sushi places down Ballard Avenue that may pose as competition, I think Billy Beach may have them beat on quality of sushi and prices. It is a little funky location, but easily walkable and parking isn't too bad on Leary Way. Prepare to be blown away by Billy Beach, Ballard.

Noticed a new sushi spot opened up on Leary in Ballard while driving by one day. A few days later I checked Amazon Local and there it was.....half off sushi at Billy Beach!

Great Happy Hour from 4-6 features sushi selection with rolls ranging from $5-$6 and small plates. Ingredients were fresh and I could tell alot of detail went into each roll.

This is my new fav sushi spot in Ballard!!

My husband and I went to BBSB a couple weeks ago on a Sunday and were very impressed.

Enjoyed the modern decor of the restaurant as well as the "Sunday All Day Happy Hour."

The staff provided good and friendly customer service. Being asian, I am quite a sushi connoisseur and have tried most all of the "hot sushi spots" in seattle. I must say, the sushi and the prices were excellent here! Our only pet peeve was that some of the rolls were not rolled tight enough so they fell apart. . . Still delicious though. We will definitely be back!

The server was wonderful and the food was delicious.  We had the amazon deal, so we ordered multiple rolls.  The spicy spider roll was amazing!  I also highly recommend the one eyed ninja roll. My only complaint is that some of the rolls were not rolled tightly enough so they were tough to eat. They have unique drinks, as well.  The waitress was very helpful.  The happy hour menu looks like such a great deal, I will definitely go back!

I guess I'll jump on the bandwagon and give Billy Beach Sushi in Ballard 5 stars... but this was totally deserving. This might be my favorite joint of them all. I really love the decor and their happy hour deal is similar to Japonessa and Umi's, but I felt like it was even better because of the great location and ambiance!

Growing up in Hawaii makes me appreciate all things beachy and sushi so Billy Beach Sushi is the perfect combination.

My girlfriend and I came here yesterday and shared five or six plates including the bento box, agedashi tofu, bad brother roll, edamame, negi hama roll and a spider roll. It doesn't sound like a lot of food for two people... but it was so worth it and we were definitely content by the end of it. She ordered a bubbly and I had a glass of white wine too for $4 each. Our total bill was about $43... what a deal!!! The average price of happy hour rolls are around $5 and they are a good portion too.

I was getting pretty sick of the bad boy rolls at the sister restaurants, but the bad brother roll seemed like an interesting alternative and I loved it! The rolls were cut thinner, making it less messy to eat, and there wasn't as much sauce and I think the fish was salmon, but overall, it didn't taste as heavy as the bad boy roll, which was awesome! The negi hama was really tasty too and the bento box was just a really good deal with fresh fish like salmon, seared tuna and different types of Japanese seaweed. Edamame tastes the same anywhere so there's not much to say about that. But overall, I usually am overwhelmed by the size of rolls and the cream cheese/sauce, but the rolls we ordered were a perfect balance of sushi vs. rice vs. sauce.

In addition, other places like Umi and Japonessa don't seem as kid-friendly because they're darker and seem "fancier" in decor, but Billy Beach includes both the fancy, chic and family-friendly element, which was awesome. We saw at least three toddlers last night and they seemed to be loving it!

Servers are very attentive and helpful like others have mentioned. I really can't wait to come back because their happy hour is just too amazing. It goes until 7:30 p.m. too which is basically during prime dinner hours.

Yes, I know these reviews seem over the top, but I went yesterday, and it's all true.

Wonderful, beautiful place. Wonderful staff. Wonderful sushi. The best genmaicha I have ever drunk in my life. I had several cups. Even the miso was something special.

The lunch prices are very good (much like the owner's Japonessa downtown). I have spent sadly much more at Blue C for convenience, and even though I like the nearby Sam's Sushi in Ballard (also lovely people and good fish), Billy tops them on all scores.

This place is fantastic! The best part is the staff! The level of friendliness is off the charts. Not in a creepy overbearing way though. I love the fact that if anyone on the floor notices that you might need something, even a refill of water, they are on it like white on rice. The staff works together and does an amazing job. The food is so good. I love me some calamari and their spicy calamari is some of the best I've ever had... Consistently! The bartenders are well dressed pro mixologists. You can get a mind blowing froufrou drink, but you can also get a $4 Sapporo, this place rocks.

OK, I'm just gonna come out and say it -- BEST SUSHI EVER. (A title I'd given to Mikuni in Roseville, CA 10+ years ago.) I was so excited to try this place and then when there was an Amazon Local deal, my fate was sealed. We went early, which made it easy to get a table and a parking spot.

They have a really interesting and exciting menu. Lots of fun options for the experienced sushi eater (jellyfish, monkfish liver, uni) and they also have plenty for the novice. You absolutely can't go wrong with the Beach Sushi or Sashimi sets ($16 and $20). Also, the off-the-menu yellowtail collar was awesome and was a large portion. Really enjoyed the Blue Eyed Geisha roll (soft shell crab) and spicy scallop handroll. Also, the serving staff was helpful, pleasant, and informative.

You know I like this place an awful lot because it crossed my mind more than once to just delete this review and attempt to keep this my place my little secret. You can thank me later.

For the best sushi ever! Billy Beach is the man! With a great General Manager in Kei to the great wait staff, I had lunch today and was overwhelmed at the tastes that hot my mouth. An explosion of flavor beyond magnificent. It was hands down the best sushi I have ever eaten. Great atmosphere and great pricing also go hand in hand with Billy Beach Sushi. Very highly recommend!'

The Atmosphere- dim lounge lighting, great artwork, tables spaced out perfectly

Food- OMG! I've never had such buttery flavorful sashimi! It blew my mind.

In addition to Billy Beach's delicious offerings, their staff is so unbelievably great. If you have not yet tried out Ballard's newest gem get in there. You cannot go wrong with the omakasi sashimi.

*I hit the weeks long happy hour special that ends May 23rd, awesome value!
*Skip the seaweed salad, its super average, the super bady boy roll was superb and the seattle roll had the best salmon!
*Service was eager and helpful, slow at times and the hostess kept grabbing the top of my glass, just a pet peeve.  All in all, this place will rock!

Very, very pleased. My new favorite sushi spot in Ballard.

If you've been to Japonessa, you have a pretty good idea about what you're getting yourself into here. Fresh, delicious fish, inventive rolls, fried awesomeness, and tasty house sake.

We opted to start with the beni-sake and hamachi nigiri (sublime), then for the calamari salad (delightful, spicy, perfectly crisp), spicy Seattle roll (standard, for a reason!), chicken kanaage (fried chicken like you wish you'd known about for years), and what's sushi without washing it down with plenty of house hot sake? Oh, and another calamari salad to finish. It was that good.

Brent, the bartender, was awesome. Super friendly, information, present but never pesky. What more could you ask for? Great service, going beyond the basics. Loving it. Great decor to boot. This place is lively, but not loud, my kind of joint.

So, price - 4 nigiri, 2 calamari salads, chicken kanaage, 1 full roll, and enough sake for two people to drink the whole meal through (2 orders), tax and a tip befitting great service, under $45. Stellar.

Happy Hour all day for like one more week! Get in there!

    Thanks for listening!

Yelp info is wrong because it is not open yet for lunch - so call first. We went here and it stinks of varnish - maybe they should have aired the place out before they opened. I've never smelled this in any new place ever. Sushi was not remarkable and the waiter was kind of condescending.  I won't be back. Much better places in Ballard within a block. I loved Japonessa, so I kind of don't understand what went wrong here.

So happy Billy Beach is now open!  We had to go on opening day May 1st....Delicious, fresh, great presentation.  The cocktails were fabulous...something with St.Germain and Vodka....so refreshing.
The decor is striking....open airy feeling with such a touch of Asian  art.

For the month of May, (well until the 23rd or 24th?) Billy Beach is servin' it up Happy Hour all day. Not bad! Got a glass of wine and four items for $23.

    - Red wine: Decent cabernet!
    - House salad: Yummy dressing and the fresh veggies were appreciated.
    - Calamari: Large pieces, yum. Next time, I'll ask for the (tasty) sauce on the side. I like my calamari crispy.
    - Sushi A: Came with five pieces of sushi. Pretty good fish quality!
    - California roll: They use snow crab (not imitation!). The rice could've been softer.

I'll be back to try more items. The lack of a star comes from our server not knowing the menu and the al dente rice. Every restaurant needs time to ease in, so I shall review once again upon my return.

I think Billy Beach is still in its soft opening. They're working out kinks in the service and food delivery timing. I recommend a dose of patience if you're coming here before June/July. The sushi they serve here is great. I really liked their salmon sashimi. It was mid-high grade. They have spicy everything. I was a little disappointed to not see any dragon roll, cherry blossom, etc. I imagine their menu will expand in the next few weeks/months as well.

They have a full bar but the drinks are only listed near the bar. I had a great drink but I have no idea what it was (other than it had vodka in it). Their sake was good as well.

I like that this place is just a few blocks closer than the other sushi joints in Ballard. It's not as deep into Ballard Ave.

Billy Beach only recently opened 4 or 5 days ago, but the food and service were running smoothly.  The interior is well decorated in earthy tones and the ambience was set with early 80s and late 70s music.  It was perfect for an early Sunday dinner.

We had a Bad Boy Roll, Chicken Karage and chef's choice sashimi and a couple of other sashimi orders (Tako and Tuna) The prices for the next few weeks makes this very reasonable for what you get.  I am not sure what the prices will be once the special ends, but these prices will stick around for happy hour at least.

Since I live in Ballard, I will go a few more times before I can give it more than four starts, but it is certainly worth a look.   The menu is not huge, but provides enough varied choices for a few visits.

There is even a Lyft inspired mustachioed bartender wearing suspenders if that is your thing.

    Billy Beach does it again!

My wife and I have eaten at Japonessa at least 30 times as it's our favorite restaurant in Seattle.  On a recent visit there, we were told the owner, Billy Beach, was opening up a similar spot right near us in Ballard.  It finally opened this week, so naturally, we checked it out already, and it is AWESOME!

We got a variety of food items, including sushi rolls, assorted sashimi, and karaage chicken, and it was all excellent.

The beer selection is very good and the unique cocktails were fantastic.

Service at the bar was top notch!  And Cameron from Japonessa is working his magic at this bar now.

And, of course, the happy hour prices make it all that much better!

Check this place out, you won't regret it.
