The honey hot wings are ridiculously awesome and  there is a giant buffalo on the wall. The other food is delicious too but when they are known for the best wings in metro west boston, you can't NOT get them whenever you are there. The beer selection could be better (get a few rotating crafts) and start taking credit cards already- I'm too lazy to cross the circle of death to get to my citizens atm!
Review Source:Believe the hype, people. The wings here are no joke. Buffs is cheap, it is good, the food is big. Wings were out of control, perfect ratio of juicy chicken to crispy skin. Mac and cheese was so cheesey, so amazing. Even their Cuban sandwich was dope. Service was just fine, there when you need it. Beer was cold.
What more could you ask for?
After hearing about Buff's via my favorite sports radio show, 985 the sports hub on a few different airings, I visited Buff's Pub today for the first time. Fred Toucher is 100% correct, Buff's has the best wings around the City and beyond, easily. The sauces are awesome, perfectly done as far as lathering goes, they don't drench the wings like a lot of other places do, they put a nice medium coat on them, enough to satisfy without painting your hands in sauce. The wings are skin shelled, not battered which I personally prefer 80% of the time. Celery and blue cheese automatically came with each of my two separate 10 piece baskets of wings without having to ask, thats always a bonus. I ordered the medium buffalo and the honey hot, both were awesome, the honey hot was new to me and I was very satisfied. Nice little pub with a great menu, cold beer and very fast and super nice service, a half dozen flat screens hang on the walls with live sporting events being cast. I give Buff's Pub an A+ all day long. I'll be going back in the very near future.
Review Source:In case you're expecting a semi-divy bar in suburban Mass, then you're about right here. Small join on Washington street in Newton.
Food facts: Wings are pretty awesome (but can't really measure up to my favorite Bon Chon ones), I followed the honey hot trend and was reasonably satisfied. As for the boneless tenders, I've had better but they were ok. My girlfriend had a philly burger - and here is where i get annoyed...why do people think that they have to create a burger so big that it would fit in anybody's mouth and it has to be cut into pieces. This was the case for this burger as well...so the burger gets a C-. Sweet potato fries however were pretty good.
So to sum it up, good dive if you wanna have some beer with chicken wings ... not good for anything else really.
Since I just wrote a negative review on another restaurant I felt I needed to write a positive one so I came to the Buff's Pub page. Â
I have been hanging and dining at Buff's for a couple years now and I am always satisfied! Â I get the Honey BBQ boneless wings and they always leave me smiling! Â If I am in a strange mood and want to try something different I am never disappointed when I order something new off the menu. The staff are awesome and I love the Boston pride.
Only negative is it is Cash only, but my bank ATM is next door. Â Still annoying.
CASH ONLY - ATM next door
Best wings in Massachusetts; Great beer selection, and great place to catch a game. Â Wings don't travel well, so I usually eat in at Buffs. Â It can get crowded, but there is plenty of standing room, and a counter running down the middle of the room that you can eat and drink at.
For sauces I've had Honey Hot, Spicy Teryaki, and XHot Buffalo. Â All are spot on and wings have nice crisp/sauce ratio.
If your in the area, check it out.
Buff's Pub serves pretty decent wings. When you are limited to the Boston area, you really don't have many choices therefore this is certainly one of the better wings spots.
They have 4 different levels of spiciness: mild, medium, hot, and extra hot. The hot wings are the perfect level of spiciness. The extra hot wings are actually HOT!!! So if you cannot handle spicy food then stay away.
The boneless wings are okay. I ordered these thinking they were a healthier option but they tasted just as greasy as the regular wings.
The service is not the best. Our server was not very attentive. My beer was empty most of the time and she just would not come back to our table. I had to get up and call her a couple of times because it was getting ridiculous.
Drinks: Try out Buff's IPA, its their specialty...tasty beer!
Overall, I am not a huge fan of fried food so I will not be coming back here often. However if you are looking for good wings then this is your spot.
best traditional-style wings in boston, easy. Â no glitz, no glam, not saturated in saucy glop and not d-grade purple on the inside. Â just crispy juicy tasty and perfect. Â this bar knows what's good and it caters to the locals tucked away a bit off the beaten path out in newton.
cash only.
honey hots.
medium buffalo.
and for god's sake, get a sprecher rootbeer on draft!!! Â being from the land of sprecher, that shit matters. Â Â WHERE ELSE CAN YOU FIND DRAFT ROOTBEER?! Â ok fine. you can find it at sunset too, but their food is shitty and expensive and buff's kicks ass. Â
plus rootbeer. Â and beer too. Â and onion rings.
shit, why am i not there right now?
also, my boss takes me there for my performance reviews. Â cuz my life is awesome, and wing fiends should stick together.
The husband and I had a fantastic experience here. I was craving wings (a rarity) thanks to a weird pregnancy dream and the husband had to take complete advantage of that (duh!). So we searched Yelp and found Buff's.
We got us some fried pickles, some medium wings (I was afraid of them being too hot) and some chili with chips. It was all beyond fabulous!
I would comment on the pickles - they are entire slices of pickle. Not the thin circles, but the long spears. I'm accustomed to the prior when eating them fried, so I was a little thrown, and I think the pickle to bread ratio is thrown off in a bad way when you fry a spear. Just sayin...
Service was outstanding. Friendly. Down to Earth. There when you needed it. Accommodating.
The atmosphere was so casual and relaxed, the music was an awesome mix of old rock and new (but not teeny-bopper) stuff, it rocked my socks off. There's booth seating and a bar and multiple flat screen TVs.
Decent beer selection. Wanted to try Mac and cheese, but knew we wouldn't finish it. Next time. I'll be sure to update.
Lastly - the whole place closes at 11:30 Â pm (whhaaaaa????!) and CA$H ONLY!
Can't wait to go back!
Buffs for me is as good as it gets, I work in the area and before this job have never had this great of wings or selection. Ive had wings at Wings, and bars around the Boston, Worcester, and NY.
The staff is friendly, the wings are great, and all for a decent price. My company and I have had Buffs for monthly staff meetings, or food and drinks after work. The place is small yet can fit a decent group depending on the time of day. The only downfall is that parking is a pain unless you take a risk and park on the street, park at the Crown Plaza garage, or around the block next to Starbucks.
We have been going to Buffs for about a year now on the review of Phantom Gourmet. My son is going to his ortho appt. in Newtonville and is loving wings so he wanted to try Buffs. My husband took him at first to try it. Â I didn't stop hearing from them how much they LOVED them. So on his next appt. I went with hesitation cuz they said it was a dark bar. Â Well now we go monthly as a family after his ortho appt.
I LOVE their cosmopolitans...there really is alcohol in them.Best I've had. The potato skins are so  good they look and taste like they should be served at a 5 star restaurant . My daughter gets the crock of French onion soup that is upscale taste. We all love the good size basket of fries. We have not ventured to other items which after reading other review we should. I now love to go there on our regular late afternoon Tuesday appt. day.I am loving the atmosphere  now. Cozy. Love our waiter he greets us as regulars. It has white collar folk there. It's a hidden gem. If you pulled up it looks like a dark closed bar with dirty windows. Don't be scared. Who would think I would be there. Love it!!!
The food is OK and the wings are not that special. Â The wait staff sucks, and the bartender is a clown. Â I overhear him bashing a customer who had a disagreement with a girl at the bar. Â The bartender was spreading all sorts of rumors... Â so SAD!!! Â And CASH only are you kidding me? The only reason this place is popular is because its the only bar in the area. Â STAY AWAY!!!!
Review Source:I'd knock them 1 star for being cash only but I can't even justify it because the food and beer is THAT good.
The place is tiny, seat yourself but oh so worth it. The staff is awesome, attentive but not annoying.
What you must get: the wings, boneless or with bones they are flat out amazing. I prefer the buffalo hot. If you really like spicy wings then skip on the honey hot (just my opinion) but if you want something more mild with a zing then the honey hot are the way to go. Being a spice addict though the HOT is the way to go!
What you should get: their beer! It's wicked good, enough said. Or get whatever they newly add to the tap, recently I had a Harpoon seasonal beer and it was fantastic.
What you should get if you don't want beer: Michelle's Margarita. Buff's does not short you on tequila, that's for damn sure.
Other food for after your wings: Steak tips, whether in the salad or with the sides they are cooked to perfection and taste amazing. Also, the homemade mac n' cheese with chicken (and add broccoli if you want more crunch!) It's AMAZING.
I've heard their burgers are good, too so maybe I will try to those next.
Not sure why you're still reading this... got to Buff's!
I have been coming here for years and decided it finally time for a review...
Buff's has THE BEST wings in Boston, and some of the best I have ever had. Before I talk about the flavors, the wings themselves are cooked perfectly! The wings have a nice crunchy exterior and are meaty on the inside; Buff's seems to always be consistent and every time I go I need to order my self an extra order! The Honey Hot wings are absolutely incredible, they have a  perfect ratio of sweet and habanero spice! The buffalo wings are a staple as well and are delicious, the spicy teriyaki is more spicy than sweet and great if you like a little heat. I just tried the chipotle and they are very mild in spice but they are also sweet and savory. I have had the BBQ and Honey BBQ a while ago and as I remember they are great, but I'm not a huge fan of BBQ wings...
Bottom line is, if you are in Boston and specifically the Newton/Watertown area then you have to try Buff's. It can get crowded on game days, but is a great atmosphere for games and of course the wings are the perfect dish for football! Beer selection there is quality as well as Harpoon makes a signature Buffs IPA! If you go here, you MUST try the wings!
You know how the Yelp! page says "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" when you fill in that last star. Â That was made for places like Buff's.
Those Honey Hot wings are unreal good. Â
I'm a big fan of a classic Buffalo wing, but great ones are few and far between. Not only does Buff's put out a great classic wing, the best I have had outside of Buffalo, these Honey Hots are something special.
The sweet and hot are Perfectly balanced, and not because they didn't bring it. They are Sweet, with a light, softly sticky, honey sweet flavor, and they are hot, not crazy, but real habañero hot sauce Hot. Each part in equal amounts and fully delicious.
Bring cash, eat wings get drunk. Â That's my advice.
I Â didn't wash my hands before I left... The next day my designated driver was at work, taking a colleague to lunch, and when the colleague got in the car she got a handful of wing hot sauce from under the door handle.
If that's not good marketing, I dont know what is,
Seriously, great wings and pub food.
Get stuffed
I would give Buff's 5 stars but it is my protest star against their cash-only policy. C'mon man! Take the Card!
Okay, Love Buff's. Always have. I only suggest one thing to those who are ready to test Buff's wings. Do not get them "to-go". They're never the same when you get them home as they are when they come out and land in front of you in your booth!
Believe the hype. These wings are as good as it gets!
Came here with a friend strictly for a plate of wings and a beer or two. I got exactly what I came for and left completely satisfied. My friend and I each ordered Buff's signature House IPA and we shared a half plate each of the Honey Hot and Spicy Teriyaki. The Honey Hot had a slight edge on the Spicy Teriyaki, but they were both fantastic! These are the heartiest wings I've had in Boston, and we both ate until we were stuffed.. and then a wing or two more.
This place delivers on exactly what it is. I love Buff's for their wings and their beer. It's a bar environment with no-frills and friendly wait staff. I will definitely come back soon!
Updated on 10-24: Time to bring Buff's up to 5-star status. Since writing this review, I have become a regular aka hopeless addict of the honey hot wings. It wouldn't be fair to call these anything but the best goddamn wings I have ever eaten.
Great wings! One time they gave me teriyaki wings by mistake. So i went back and they gave me the right order and let me keep the mistake. That was preety cool. The fact that they charge me a few extra bucks for the take out containers and blue cheese was kind of lame. I'll be going back, but i'm bringing my own tupperware.
Another thing don't ask for mild wings. Just get the regular hot, you wont regret it.
Went to Buff's last night at the insistence of a friend and didn't experience any improvements in the food, and the service was not good, unlike last time. My Buffalo Bleu Cheese Burger ($8.95) was ordered medium but was served well done - hockey puck style - Â on a hard roll. Hard not as in a synonym for a "bulkie." Hard as in stale.
The server seemed friendly enough at first, but it quickly became clear that she was inattentive. Drinks were slung at us without her so much as looking at us, sloshing beer onto the table. Cocktail napkins would have been good given the careless way the drinks were set down, but we didn't get any. She didn't ask how our meals were until *well* after we were finished. Â She was busy, but that doesn't excuse bad service. Maybe management could have given an order pad to one of the two hostesses hanging out by the front door and put her to work.
And I think Buff's kitchen is a lost cause. They screwed up their "signature" item - wings - last time, and now can't even plate a decent burger. Now, the place was packed, so lots of people must like the grub there. But there is no accounting for taste.
To end on a positive note, the Buff's Pale Ale is still excellent. Good job Harpoon Brewery.

I've never reviewed Buff's Pub?? SHAME ON ME!!! Been here 5 times and every time it was delish! Best chicken wings around IMO. Honey Hot is the preferred flavor by most people. Just the right amount of sweet and zing to get the job done. This place is usually VERY crowded every night of the week so be prepared to wait. Or get there early and score a seat at the bar. They have a vast menu of items that look tasty but i always get the wings. Crack wings as me and my friends like to call them because they are so addictive. And they carry Heineken Light. WOOHOO!
Only bad thing is they only take cash so come prepared so you don't look foolish when the bill shows up and you have only Visa and lint in your pocket...
I decided to search for some good wings in the area and stumbled upon Buff's on several blogs.
I ordered the Honey Hot wings and a meatball sub just because I was in a mood for a sub. That was a bad idea, it barely had any marinara sauce and the bread was overly toasted.
Now the wings... one word: overrated. Perhaps I had too high of an expectations going in there, but if it lived up to it's hype, it shouldn't have been an issue! It tasted like any normal wings that you can get at any restaurant that offers wings. There's nothing wrong with the wings, but it certainly wasn't anything magical like everyone made it out to be.
I'm not a wing guy, but I wanted to try Buff's because everyone talks about it.
Pros:
- Great wings, plenty of meat on them
- Honey hot sauce is the best = fantastic taste
- Half order is more than enough for one person
- Right off Mass Pike
Cons:
- CASH only (come on guys)
- Add-on charges for take out (really tacky - come on guys)
- Old space that looks dark/closed
- No parking
It's true, the wings are awesome. The half order was a bit too much for me to handle on an empty stomach, so servings are generous. I had the medium sauce, and it was a good spice level for someone who likes wings with a kick but not a painful burn.
Buff's has a real divey local vibe, so I was also pleased to find a BBC Pale Ale on tap alongside the usual suspects like Bud Light.
Cash only, and not really T-accessible.
Buff's exists in the no-man's land that is Newton by the Mass Pike...no close T-stops, a terrible maze of tangled roads if you're driving, and not a lot of parking when you get there.
But the wings were totally worth the aggravation. They were meaty, the sauce was great, and the hot wings were actually hot. I was glad I didn't go for extra hot on the first visit.
I probably wouldn't go for a big game -- the place is pretty small. And chances are when I go back, I'll never have anything but wings. But I'm pretty happy to have found a go-to wings place in the Boston area that's not B-Dubs in Saugus (no offense, B-Dubs).
If you go, remember it's cash only.
I have mixed feelings about Buff's Pub, but I'm giving it 4 stars because when it's good, it's delicious. Â Charbroiled burgers and piping hot onion rings, you just can't beat them. Â
I've only done takeout from Buff's and they charge extra for takeout which is a little bit frustrating. Â You also have to be extremely specific when you order. Â For example, on Saturday I ordered 2 burgers and fries and because I did not specify, there was no lettuce, tomato, or pickle so the burger was less than satisfying.
But for a good burger in the Newton area, Buff's is definitely my go-to destination.
Ever have that feeling that someone was watching you? Â This place is kind of like that, only replace the act of watching you with being racist. Â The two times I've been here I have never gotten a waiters attention or been asked for another beer when I'm done. Â It took another yelper to get me a beer. Â Later I just grabbed a passing waiter and asked for a shot, he said they don't do shots--no problem, that's your prerogative. Â Then some old lady came over from behind the bar and gave me a verbal spanking about how they don't serve shots--I think I may have already got that. Â Why two stars then? Â Well because the wings are okay.
Bottom Line: There are a lot of wing places in Boston, find one that isn't Buff's.
What exactly is up with Yelpers being in love with Buff's? I'm just don't understand this phenomenon because personally I wasn't a fan of the wings at Buff's.
The wings were of a smaller size, but I would have forgave that if the flavor of the chicken was to sweep me off my feet, but alas this was not the case. In fact the Buffalo just wasn't spicy at all! I was truly disappointed in Yelpers clearly steering me in the wrong direction.
Maybe my expectation were too high, but even still, I wouldn't return just for their wings simply 'cause I can get better wings closer to home with more flavor choices and more of a kick to it.
The atmosphere is your typical Boston pub style which didn't make it stand out and so there really is no reason for my return unless I just so happen to be in the area, which would be on a scale of 1-10 would be a 0.
Why must you be so expensive and crowded? Â WHY?
I love this place. Â Amazing food and an awesome environment. Â They've got 5 big HDTVs so no need to worry about whether you'll have to watch the Bruins or Celts or Sox. Â You can watch all 3 at once!
The buffalo strips (didn't try the wings, bones piss me off) are amazing. Â Unfortunately you only get 6 for 9 bucks. Â Maybe the wings are a better deal but the price for the strips is a complete rip.
The nachos are excellent. Â 6 bucks for a huge plate of cheese/lettuce/tomato covered goodness.
Last but not least foodwise.. the bleu cheese dressing. Â Delicious. Â I wanted to buy a bucket of it to bring home.
Now for the big negative, there are only 6 or 7 booths, a few tables, and limited space at the bar. Â Good luck getting a seat after 5 PM on weekdays. Â At night? Â Won't happen.
Also, bring cash. Â Their registers may have a spot to swipe credit cards but they don't take it :
The chicken wing doesn't fall far from the chicken at Buff's. My favorite flavor was the buffalo wings, followed by the honey hots.
The wings are: tasty, chewy, flavored, messily delicious in a very primal way
The wings are not: boneless, soft, or all that meaty
The blue cheese dressing is the icing on the chicken. Brownstone Betty - isn't that exactly what blue cheese dressing is? Ranch dressing with blue cheese chunks in it? At least that's what Buff's dressing tasted like.
Put your name in with the awesome bouncer at the door to get a table - Greg was working last Friday, and he is my favorite bouncer ever. He doesn't bounce so much as fairly regulate the masses and masses of people crammed into the bar area waiting for a table. It's loud, there's a lot of camaraderie around whatever game is on the large TVs, and characters galore.
When you absolutely must gnaw on a bone while you bellow for a win, Buff's is the place to be.
Buffs Pub was great. Â I went the other night when I was meeting a friend after a game. Â It was the perfect spot..location and beer! Â The staff was super friendly, the crowd was well mixed, and plenty of people were eating the famed wings. Â I did not have any, this time, but will have to update my review when I do. Â They smelled awesome. Â
The place is a great Newton pub spot for after a game, meeting with friends, and watching some sports on the tv.
The wings here are pretty effin' fantastic. Â I tried them out last week based mostly on the reviews here on Yelp, and they did not disappoint. Â They go especially well with a cold pint of Bud Light. Â There's about ten wings in a "small order," and 20 or so in a "large," so unless you're with a big group or ravenously hungry, you'd do best to stick with the "small" portion.
Also sampled the Steak Tips Salad on the menu. Â Not too shabby. Â The steak was cooked perfectly to medium, just as I had requested, and the salad ingredients were fresh and tasty. Â A great value at about seven dollars.
We were there on a Friday at 8 pm, and managed to score a table right away. Â We were lucky -- Buff's one major downside is that it's always a mob scene. Â Still, if you don't mind standing shoulder-to-shoulder with a mob of college students watching the Sox game while waiting for your table, you'll be fine.
Hear this: Â Buff's Pub is THE place to go in Boston for chicken wings. Â
Most of the wings in Boston are a pretty sorry display. Â Sort of fried, sort of spicy. Â Possibly breaded? Â Not Buff's. Â This place has serious wings, very crispy, flavored perfectly and delivered in a flash. Â The "honey hot" are especially recommended. Â Don't mess around with the other food, it's not worth it. Â Order several baskets of wings with your friends and let the wild carnivore in you come out.
The crowd here tends to swell during sports events. It's really a very comfortable place to watch a Red Sox game. Â There is a little bit of 30-somethings-cruising-happy-hour activity going on, but it's not intrusive and is largely a source of amusement. Â
Expect to wait for approximately half an hour to be seated here, as it is extremely popular. Â This time is best spent consuming copious quantities of inexpensive, domestic beer. Â
Now go! Â Before you get too old to eat like this.
