Delicious food! Great service. They don't have alcohol (tequila) license.

I've been to many Mexican restaurants in my life time and this is by far one of the best. The menu is not your typical tex/mex style... its much more authentic and definitely unique to the area. Everything I've ever ordered here has been fantastic. Their guacamole is the best I've ever had... A must every time I come in!!! The service is always top notch and the owners are so sweet to their customers.
One of my favorite restaurants!!

We sat down - asked for margaritas which the waiter said they had, BUT he failed to mention a huge point - it is made with essentially no tequila because they don't have that kind of license - misstep 1-waiter should have said that but instead I had to drag it out of him-not cool!

While looking over the menu no less than 4 WAITERS-came over to say hello and give us specials, ask if we wanted drinks, etc -in less than 3 minutes!!!!! -this was ridiculous! After that we couldn't take it anymore and left .... Everyone was oblivious at this place , so weird - what a turn off! Never again...

Obviously folks who call this stuff authentic have never been to Mexico. We lived there and this is not Mexican. Close now and avoid the embarrassment!

As a Texas native with Mexican roots, I'd been craving authentic Mexican food ever since moving to Florida. I read about this place in the Miami Herald and how it was owned by native Mexicans, so my interest was piqued.

It's a small, humble establishment with friendly and attentive waitstaff. However, the prices are a little steep for the menu they offer and the food was good, but not great. I'd go there again to give it a second chance, but my search for good Mexican in Broward County continues.

So good! I picked lunch to go and waited at the bar while they brought the check, the place is very small but clean and modern. The service is very friendly, while waiting for my take out order they twice asked me if I wanted a water or drink.

Now for the food, it is excellent and authentic. This is not tex-mex, it is authentic Mexican. The chips were fresh and tasty and so were the different salsas that were included, very fresh and great flavors. We tried the XOCHITL which is a delicate chicken broth with avocado and cilantro, it was very good. The Guacamole is homemade and fresh but it was a little disappointing and bland. We tried the Tacos: Chicken, steak, grilled pork, roast pork, shrimp and fish baja, the roast pork was my favorite, the homemade tortillas are ridiculous good. We also tried the corn tamale and it was also delicious.

The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because excellent Guac is a must for me. I will definitely return to try more stuff and the fresh made Margaritas. Their menu is posted on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/…

The food is good, but we do not go there very often because it is so pricey. I think their breakfast menu is priced much more appropriately and they are more competitive at that time of day, as there are few restaurants which serve authentic mexican breakfast (i.e., huevos rancheros, chilaquiles) in east Fort Lauderdale.

Although I will concede their food is better than La Bamba (located right down the street from them), the taste and portion size of their meals is not enough to justify a mark-up of 50 - 75% compared to the cost of a meal at La Bamba.

If I am going to spend a lot of money on a mexican dinner, I'd prefer to go all-out and hit up Eduardo San Angel, just less than a mile away.

Found this place by accident after gassing up the car on the way home from FLL. Fell in love with the place, excellent food authentic Mexico City cuisine and wonderful service. Have already recommended it to a friend in Ft Lauderdale, who loves it and recommended it to another friend!

This place is great. I was actually surprised at how good the food was. I expected a good little taco place and turned out to be very authentic gourmet Mexican. Owner went over the menu personally with us and explained how they make their molé. If you are going to get Mexican in the Ft. Lauderdale area make sure you treat yourself to this place!

Some of my greatest discoveries re always by accident, and Casa Frida was one of them. After a long day that still hasn't ended, the wife and I were looking for something new and different, and we were not disappointed. From the fresh chips and salsa, to the frosted mug of cerveza, guacamole made from scratch, and the tastiest ceviche we've had in a while, we were overwhelmed and surprised how great his place was. We decided on he a chipotle marinaded pork dish that blew us away, especially with the cilantro rice and creamy black bean side dish. Service was over the top, with Mari as our server and Victor, the owner, making sure our first visit wasn't our last. I think the wife was sold on the place when she raised her glass and started to sing along with the Mexican/Latin music playing in the background, especially when she really doesn't"t know much if any Spanish. This is as authentic, romantic, real Mexican as you can get, which is refreshing given the mix of tex-mex, Latin, quasi-Mexican offerings around town. If you're looking for expensive pitchers of margaritas and Beni-Hana table side guacamole, enjoy the commercial establishments as you wish. If you know what mole is (not a birthmark or rodent type animal), or want to try authentic homemade Mexican cuisine, run don't walk to Casa Frida. And make sure Victor blesses you with holy water too.

Great little spot in town, cozy, warm and friendly. Wife & I enjoyed some really good food and service. The owner, Julietta was very nice. Our server was great - Roberto.
Try the habanero salsa :)

Loved Casa Frida. Its not a large place, so you might have to wait if they get busy. We only waited a few minutes for a table. They only serve wine and beer, but I don't mind that at all.

Excellent salsa, spicy red and more mild green. Guacamole was excellent as well. Dispite the chips and salsa, this is not a Tex/Mex place. Its more authentic Mexican. I had the tampiquena and it was very tender and cooked perfectly.

I love churros, so we had to try those for dessert. They weren't the best I have ever had (hello Merida!), but they were still good.

Service was attentive and very friendly. I will definitely go back to Casa Frida!

Food pricey but ok. Service slow, slow, slow. If you go for dinner, you'll be thinking breakfast by the time food arrives. I assume the good reviews are from people who have lots of time to invest. I f you're one of those, enjoy. If there's more going on in your life time-wise, there's lots of better choices.

OMG...delicious...fresh...outstanding service. Owner makes you feel like you are a member of the family. Servers were helpful and very well versed. Food was tasty and the ceviche was divine. The only reason this got 4 stars was the flan. Not perfect, but we will be returning very soon. If you are looking for Taco Bell this isn't it!! Prices are a little high, but the quality is there.

Hubs and I were underwhelmed, unfortunately.

We were excited to try this little joint as we drive by everyday, and we noticed so many restaurants come and go in this space, so when this opened we wanted to check it out (before it disappeared too). Well, we finally had the chance recently and...

First, for the impression this place gives off (located in a cheap-o plaza and no real signage other than a vinyl banner-type thing), one would not expect the kind of high prices this place is charging. We weren't looking to spend a ton of money in a little Mexican joint, but the first thing I noticed were the $17 fajitas and $16 tamales (3 average size tamales on a plate with a small scoop each of rice and beans). Seriously, who pays $16 bucks for 3 tamales...these things are like 2-3 bucks each MAX (I usually get mine for less than 2 actually). Ok, so I paid the $16 expecting to be blown away by what must be the very best tamales in the world. They were disappointingly average, and that's being nice.

Hubs had enchiladas which were decent, but again, nothing was wowing us for the prices. I did like the mole sauce that was covering his enchiladas, and we really enjoyed our beer...and that's about all. Oh, we did try the tres leches cake b/c I have a small obsession with it and get it everywhere I go. I was hugely disappointed and even my hubs, who wolfs down any and everything, wouldn't eat it. It was dry on top, and too moist on the bottom. It was obviously made and sitting around for awhile because the fake cherry on top leaked its fake juices all the way down into the cake...that doesn't happen when something is fresh. I would venture to say they don't make it in house, but who knows.

The staff were attentive and nice. Beware of the server who will try to up-sell you on every item. This isn't such a big deal b/c I know it's part of the gig, but by dessert time we were kind of over it, and even still he tried to push a different dessert on us in addition to the cake we had already ordered.

Our bill? $60 bucks (not including) tip for two people and NO apps. Obviously not a bank breaker, but it was just surprising given the quality of the food. It seems from the other reviews that people really like this place, and I always encourage people to try restaurants and form their own opinions, but as for hubs and I, this was a one and done...we will not be going back.

I finally got around to trying Casa Frida for lunch today. I tried 3 different taco's and the green banana and cheese empanada. The taco al pastor and the cochinita were both very good but a little on the dry side. The Chorizo con Papas on the other hand was outstanding, earthy and satisfying. Four cute little mini empanadas were served on a bed of tangy shredded cabbage which was a nice counterpoint to the really really delicious banana and cheese filling. I highly recommend those tasty little bites. I also tried one of their fresh juices, today they had cucumber and lime. WOW! So delicious!
The restaurant itself is very cute inside and the owner was extremely gracious and informative about the food. I will definitely be coming back here to try breakfast and dinner.

Yay we are finally getting real mexican food in South Florida!

Love, love, love this new place! My girlfriend and I went for breakfast because we were craving chilaquilles and had remembered this place had opened up. They tasted SO good. We had a warm welcome by by the owner Victor & Julietta. I was told where the chefs were from as well (part of our conversation) and I was very happy to know that they were also from different parts of Mexico, making me comfortable that I would get authentic Mexican food. And it surely was Authentic! The salsas they give you when you sit down were delish! I will be coming back to try their specialities on the weekend (pozole & bierra) as well as their other dishes. I give this place 5 stars & recommend anyone craving authentic Mexican food to stop in.

If you are looking for a big burrito or chunky salsa do not go here. They don't have your typical Mexican food plates. I am from southern California and eat authentic Mexican food often. Every review I read said this place had authentic cuisine; but it does not. If I could define it I would call it a gourmet Mexican grill. They have elaborate entres which might very well be excellent but they weren't what I fiend for when is when I think of great Mexican food wasn't anything they had. They literally didn't have a burrito on the menu. So check the menu before you go. Also this place was over priced in my oppinion. Entres were upwards or $17 bucks. With that said the servers were nice and well informed on the cuisine. Just not what I was looking for when I think of when I think of authentic Mexican food.

Finally! A really good Mexican restaurant without the silly frills of sombrero decor. It has a simple, clean (clean and Mexican for restaurants generally comes off as an oxymoron in Lauderdale, but not in this case), up to date, well appointed with a somewhat modern elegance, a friendly helpful wait staff, a complete well thought out menu and some really good tasting basically authentic Mexican food. What's more, and to my joy, they know how to make a decent margarita without using all that bottled, premixed sweet and sour sauce.

Ok.. if you're expecting Ameri-Mex, this is NOT the place. This is a great little authentic Mexican restaurant. You definitely get the family feel - service was very personable and excellent. The food was very good and fresh as well. They have several homemade waters - definitely give those a try!

I'm tentatively giving this 4 stars. I had the taco platter with 3 different tacos-- one chicken, one cochinita pibil, and one al pastor. They were pretty good, but they weren't served with any lime or spicy sauces. No tomatillo sauce! I asked for some and the problem was remedied, but it seems like they might be trying to cater to "gringos", due to the fact that the restaurant is in Ft.Lauderdale. I'm only half-mexican myself, and have only very recently started venturing into spicy sauces, but their tomatillo sauce was delicious. The bottled habañero sauce at the table was also pretty good, but obviously did not compare to the fresh sauces the restaurant also offered. I just wish they served the spicy stuff right off the bat!

Another minor problem was the guacamole. I am a guac addict, and this guacamole was definitely lacking in flavor (and served in a tiny portion, to boot!). My boyfriend and I poured some habañero sauce into it just to give it a little punch, and when the limes came, I made sure to add some lime juice. So eventually, it tasted great, but it sort of defeats the purpose of going to a restaurant if I had to prepare the food myself.

My boyfriend had the enchiladas suizas, of which I tried a bite. These were DIVINE! They were even better than ones I've had in Mexico City! Since I had just discovered Casa Frida on Yelp earlier that day, I ate with my future scoring of the restaurant in mind. I was on the fence about the 4-star score until I tried the enchiladas. I recommend these to anyone who visits Casa Frida and is unsure of what to order.

Oh, and another little thing about Casa Frida-- they have this large flat screen on the wall that plays mexican pop/ballad videos. My boyfriend (who is as gringo as they come) thought these were very amusing. Suggested drinking game: take a shot every time you see flaming text on the screen!

With at least ten Mex restaurants very close by, this one is by far superior to the rest. The cucumber water is absolutely wonderful and the food is authentic Mexican fare. I ordered the veg enchiladas with mole and the sauce was spicy with just the right amount of cinnamon. Not your typical enchiladas drowning in copious amounts of greasy cheese, but rather filled with with fresh vegetables wrapped in tender corn tortillas. The guacamole was not over-seasoned and so fresh. My husband ordered the chicken soup and raved about it. He also ordered two pork tacos, each prepared differently and loved them. Will be returning frequently! Reminded me a little of Eduardo de San angel but not as nouveau nor as pricey.

I've been here several times now and have been able to sort of see this restaurant develop. They've just recently gotten their liquor license (and while they're still closing at 5:00 pm at the time of this writing, the owner Victor says that they're planning to soon start serving dinner), and they've made good use of it. Their margaritas are very good and authentic, "the best in town", as they say. As many others have said on Yelp, and they're quickly getting a reputation around town for, the food here is very authentically Mexican.

There's just a couple of things so far that keep this place from getting a five star review from me. While the food is very authentically Mexican and the service is very fast and friendly, plus great prices, there have been a couple of things I didn't really like. The guacamole, while fresh, tasted quite bland to me. I've never tasted guacamole that bland before. It tasted like it didn't have any lime or salt in it, which is what gives guacamole its flavor (note: when I've ordered fajitas and quesadillas here before that came with a little guacamole on the side, the guacamole tasted normal. However, when I ordered guacamole and chips, this is when it was bland. I don't know if this was just an isolated incident or what, but they should try to make sure that the food is consistent and has flavor).

While they did gave you some different types of salsa that you could add to it, it still doesn't replace their not putting lime and salt in it to begin with. I had trouble eating their steak fajitas because the meat was so tough it was impossible to chew from the fajita. I literally had to put the whole piece of meat in my mouth or cut it up with a fork and knife to eat it.

I also didn't like their flan very much. It was kind of Jello-y and just not what I expect and prefer from flan. However, the churros they make here are the best churros I've ever had. If they fix these few things, then I could see giving them a better rating. Other than those few things I mentioned, the food is pretty good here. I'd recommend trying it out and seeing how you like it.

I have eaten here twice now and have been super-impressed both times. Service is quick, knowledgeable, and friendly. Food was phenomenal! I even ordered a desert at lunch (which I never ever do...) So glad to have a real Mexican option - the owners used to run restaurants in Mexico City and Cancun!

Finally! A place in South Florida that cooks up the perfect fresh, homemade Mexican food, just as Abuelita does. Having migrated from San Diego, there's been a hole in my stomach for authentic, delicious, simple, Rosarito Beach cuisine ever since moving to the Fort Lauderdale area 3 years ago. Casa Frida has filled that hole with not only excellent food, but a homey, beautiful, whimsical restaurant where the owners Julietta and Victor, both from Mexico City, treat you as family. They intended the restaurant to serve as a reasonably priced, neighborhood dinner and they've done just that with the majority of their entrees priced under $10 - without sacrificing quality!

Currently they are only open from 8-5 but in the near future will be open for dinner once they have their beer/wine license. Their Breakfast and Lunch menu is well rounded and suitable for the vegetarian, seafood eater or meat lover. Highlights of the menu that I have not found at any other Mexican restaurant in the area include: Mexican Hot Chocolate, Horchata, made fresh daily various Agua Fresca's and homemade churros and flan!

My boyfriend and I stopped in a week after this opened on a whim and both of us fell in love with the food and the charming owners. This is a place we'll be bringing all of our friends too as well as returning for quiet, afternoon dates or a satisfying breakfast. Stop in and immerse yourself in Mexico.
