    Yummy margaritas!
The food here is your standard mexican food, nothing extraordinary but most people don't come here for the food, they come for the margaritas! Plenty of different flavor options, strong, big, and delicious.

Well I'll say me and my partner went here for valentines day, and the service was blah, the waiter had a serious attitude problem and was not friendly at all. Only good thing about here was the margaritas. I was a little buzzed after a couple sips.  I will go back for drinks because they're strong. But that Mexican food was hardly Mexican.  It was not the stuff I received in California.

The killer margaritas are killer expensive. We bought waited about 30 minutes for a table once we were seated we waited about 20 more minutes to see the server. The server was rude and rushed our order not even asking us if we wanted anything to drink. Once the soup came about 2 minutes later the food came out and the server tried taking our soup that was nearly full. After we were all done we waited about 15 minutes for the bill. Finally the manager took notice of our frustration and offered us 4 free shots. Great! So about 5 minutes later drink runner brought the 4 shots to the table next to use and said on the house. Needless to say they were very confused at the table for 2 behind us. That was the last straw if you have choice skip this place and the killer margaritas.

Worth the trip for the margarita, it was delicious and left us leaving very happy.  So many flavors as well.  I have the Guava on rocks and really wanted to try the Banana but feared I would need a wheelchair to get out of the place.

As for the food, it was good, but nothing spectacular.  We were given a free pasta-style soup to try and it made spaghetti-o's look gourmet.

Our evening ended with free sub-par tequila shots.  Not really what we needed, but welcomed as we waited an unusually long time for our check.

Overall, I'd go back for sure.  I just might have to try some other foods to see if it's any better.

Solid 3 here. I always enjoy the food here but I feel like Cesar's lacks in service. Be aware that if someone buys you a gift card to this restaurant that it will only be honored at the specific location where it was bought. Maybe the two locations aren't associated with one another, I'm not sure. Also, they have a policy about not taking more than two credit cards per table (which is fine) but that includes gift cards. So one gift card/one credit card. Margaritas are "as yelp says" A-OK. Not "killer". I used to grab food from here because it is good and I hadn't yet explored the neighborhood but I've since found better service and experience wise.

So why is this place so popular? Margaritas alone don't make a restaurant.

I have been to Caesar's many times and each time my experience has gotten worse. Drunk, sober... it doesn't matter. The burritos, tacos, and tostadas are bland, served in small portions, overpriced (for what you get) and the staff can be hit or miss. Most of the time they just don't care about keeping you happy since people still pour in regardless of food and service. It must be the bright sign that lures people like moths to a flame.

Do yourself a favor and keep walking past this place. There will undoubtedly be a better Mexican joint near by.

    Yummm, food poisoning!!

I live just up the block from Cesars and have been here several times, and each time left disappointed.  The food is done so half-heartedly that everyone in my party paid begrudgingly.  Not only were the spinach quesadillas plain doughy slippers, they gave me and my friend food poisoning.  I've been hurling all night and day, and upon calling the restaurant to report the danger, I was told to leave my number for the owner who never ended up calling me.  I told several friends of the incident and everyone had a food poisoning horror story to share about Cesars.

Save your money and your intestinal health and SKIP this place!!!!

    PROS:

Mega Guava margarita tasted great, and was enough for the 2-3 hours we spent here.

Also ate the bare-it-all-rito (a burrito in a bowl without the tortilla), which tasted much better than I expected, but I was also 3/4 of a mega margarita in.

    Our waiter was kinda funny.

    CONS:

Chips and salsa were meh. I think they taste better when you buy them from the grocery store...

Overall I just didn't the like the attitude of the restaurant. So many rules... only 2 forms of payment per check (1 check per table), extra chips  = extra $3, guacamole is 'market price'... what?

We came in and didn't know exactly how many people were coming, so we were told to sit at the bar until we knew. Once I knew, we went back to the hostess stand and gave her the number, then we were sent back to the bar until everyone was there. We couldn't move our bar tab to our table, so we had to close out. The bar tender was also incredibly new, which I have patience for, but didn't know the prices of any margaritas and was using the menu as a reference... Then everyone was present, and I said we needed a table for 5. The waiter turned around asking him in Spanish if everyone was here.... YES EVERYONE IS HERE. WE HAVE ALREADY ESTABLISHED THAT WE NEED EVERYONE TO BE HERE.

It was just so absurd that I'd be happy to find margaritas elsewhere.

I think everything here is overrated. I think they claim that they have the best Margaritas but it was sub-par and over priced. There are a lot of Mexican restaurants in the area that are much better.

The food was bland and boring and the margaritas were very weak. My friend and I shared a whole pitcher of margaritas and didn't feel a thing. The food at little authentic mexican restaurants, which are all over Chicago, is better and a lot cheaper. I was very disappointed.

I wildly prefer this location to the other location. Came here on Cinco de Mayo for the first time in college, and have been back multiple times since. What they say about their margaritas is more than correct... they are KILLER. My favorite is the blended mango. I could drink that all day everyday. If we lived in a beach town, I would pay Cesar's to bring me that margarita everyday while I laid in the sun.

Minus one star because the food is NOT good. Never had anything good here except maybe chips and salsa. I only come here for the drinks.

Why would you pay so much for something so mediocre?

You know what? Don't answer that.

The food was decent in the way that is a step up from Taco Bell. The food was also ridiculously overpriced.

I did not have a margarita due to multiple reasons that all culminate in the thought "It's just not worth it". I did have a horrendously expensive normal person drink from the bar.

Service was fine. I'll come back here if I absolutely have to do so but honestly I'd rather get decent Mexican elsewhere for less money (or really excellent Mexican elsewhere for a lot less money) and a drink anywhere else but here.

Then again, given the neighborhood, I totally understand why this place exists and why people pay so much for so much that is mediocre.

My stars reflect going here for drinks only*

I only come here for the margaritas, which are delicious! Frozen margaritas all the way! I do not recommend the banana margarita. I was highly disappointed because I thought it would be much sweeter and flavorful. Guava is very good though. I admit, it is a little weird they charge extra for some flavors and not others... It's also disappointing they charge you for extra chips and salsa. If you give me more chips to eat, I drink more. Duh. Most places I've been to will refill your chips and salsa for free. Also nothing on the food menu ever sounds appetizing, so we never order food.

We found this place on metromix many years ago while looking for the best margaritas in Chicago.  Well many years later we still go there to rock the margs.

When dining pre-6pm its a good environment for kids.  My wife and I love the mini burritos as well as the chicken and fish tacos.  You can't go wrong with much.  Love the soup and salad as well.

Love it and will continue to go back all the time.  I am surprised Cesars only received three stars.  Go dine there with confidence.

Sister's birthday so we must celebrate w/ Margaritas. I agree with everyone else on their meek feelings of the food.

But the waitstaff was super nice and very attentive. And actually the only reason why I came on here to give stars! whoo hoo!

We "used" to love Cesar's and we "used" to go at least a couple times a month.
    Not anymore.

Cesar's is a classic example of a greedy owner wanting to suck every single penny he can from his customers, and we have witnessed this happen over the last year or so.
The food here was never great, it was good, but we came here for the margaritas more than anything.  In the last year we have seen these horrible changes...

    1. Steak no longer an option on a lot menu items, it has been removed.
    2. Steak now cost MARKET PRICE? What?!?!?! Who the hell charges market price for carne asada? Does the price change that much? Get Real!
    3. Market Price for guacamole???  Again, SERIOUSLY???
    4. Now only serving ONE size margarita and at an increased price.  This alone will prevent us from returning.

It seems the popular items here have a market price attached to them or an increase (as in mango flavor is .50 more) of course because its the popular one, not because it cost more to make from the other 10 flavors.
The owner here is very rude, have witnessed him throw people out and yell at staff.

Same goes for the Broadway location, Its the same dame name and restuarant but the menu is half the size and its CASH ONLY.
It's sad to see an owner take such advantage of its customers but i think the people are now realizing what is going on.

Rude...It is 8:57 on a Sunday night and my party is sitting inside the restaurant. While trying to meet them the restaurant employees locked the door in front of me and refuse to let me enter. I will never come to this restaurant again and you should consider going elsewhere as well.

I used to really love this place.  Years ago, it was either better, or my standards were lower.  I'm not sure, but I know it's so bad now, and has gotten so progressively worse, that I will probably never go there again, at least not by choice.

The one star is for the margaritas.  The service is terrible.  They clearly don't care if you are happy there.  The servers do the bare minimum, and if you need anything, you have to get up and find someone.

There is no one experience that was worse than any other lately.  It's just generally bad service.  Every little thing seems like a chore for them.

    I'm done with Cesar's.

The food wasn't good, but my margarita was delicious. Even with it being frozen (melting ice), I had a nice little buzz by the time that I left. So, I would go back only for the drinks. Cheers!

I went here on election night and reflecting on that, I have to wonder why I keep going back to Cesar's.  I don't drink tequila, and the food is only so-so, but after this visit, I know exactly why I won't be going back:

#1 - the restaurant was practically empty, but they would not allow me to charge my cell phone by the hostess station
#2 - they added an 18% gratuity to our check (we were a party of three adults)
#3 - even though they were practically empty, they refused to take more than two credit/debit cards per table.

These policies make sense if the restaurant is crowded and busy, but we were one of perhaps six tables.  Good customer service requires that policies be flexible.

I used to love this place for the mega margaritas they had. I didn't mind paying 10 or 11 for the drink because it was so yummy and a good value. So you can imagine my surprise upon going in there and learning they no longer have the mega margarita and have a one size only option which costs $12. Are you kidding me? Needless to say after years of going there for margaritas I will not be going back. If the food was good I possibly would but the food is just not good. I like my Mexican food with lots of flavor and not to taste so American. .

This place has gone downhill quickly.  The first time I went, the food was amazing--lots of flavor, not too greasy.  And the complimentary soup was nice, too.  (Actually, the soup is *still* nice.)

But the last couple of times I've gone, the food was just incredibly bland. And they don't offer hot sauce (that IS weird, right??).  They have a house-made hot sauce, but it was so bland that it tasted like cucumbers. Once I tasted that, i was ready for a box so I could take it home and put some flavor on it.  Blech.

I am a  margarita connossieur althought not officially designated and YES these are killer esp. Midori+ and Tamarindo mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm  xxxxooooo

However the "market price" guacamole throws me for a loop?   $6 small  4 oz. and $8 8 oz.  Gimme a break, it's not lobster  Avocados are going for a buck a piecee these days retail so guac is costing them $2 to make for a small.

Although the smooth margie cooled my anger over this matter.  :)))

I haven't been in since my early 20's but a friend had his birthday dinner here so the Dude and I made our way over.

I have a fetus on board so I had to abstain from the margaritas but my dude said his mango one was awesome. The coconut one also got rave reviews from our table.

I had never actually eaten here until today. In my 20's, I was more concerned about the booze. But tonight I had steak flautas and they were actually kick ass. I asked for some hot sauce and was brought a dish of their house sauce which was amazeballs! A must try if you like spicy. I went through two dishes. My dude's mole dish was delicious too.

Surprisingly good food + booze = a must do once I am no longer with baby on board.

Never to return... I've patronized this spot for a few years b/c their margaritas are definitely killer, but the food was just okay. But now they only serve 1 size margarita, they used to have 3. And a pitcher is 45bucks. Then they will try to nickel & dime you to death. There's an extra charge if you want all beans or all rice...a second bowl of chips is extra...they even charge for the jalepenos & carrots! Who does that? Then the wait staff has the nerve to be attitudinal!... Surely there's another spot where you can get a killer margarita w/out being expected to shell extra for every little bit of a mediocre meal.

So i used to LOVE this place until about a month ago i went and had the WORSSSTTTTT experience ive ever had at a restaurant and ive gone to thousands of restaurants in my young life:)
So we were out for the night with the girls and all of a sudden we get to ceasars and the guy in the front was super rude heres what happened: He asked if we were there for drinks or for drinks and food...so we said just drinks and he told us to go find a spot by either bar, like usual no spot by either bar so we go to the bar in the back and decide since the only way we can talk will be to order food we said we would order food and sat down at one of the empty tables ...pretty much the rest. was empty except for ppl sitting at the bar, so we sat down and the male most came to our table super rude and said "you cannot sit here this table is for 6 people and you said theres only 4" (i forgot to say only 3 of us walked in and the 4th person was looking for parking since uk how parking gets around there), so i asked him if he could sit us then at a table and ruddily walked across the rest. to like the worst table in the place right infront of the kitchen we then asked him if we could have any booth and once again said that those are only for parties of 6.....ok i understand the whole seating arrangement thing ive worked in the food industry for like 8 yrs of my life but come on really so a minute later my 4th friend tells me to come get her bc theyre not letting her in , so i go to the front and sure enough they say they cannot let her in i again told the host that that was the 4th person at our table and we already ordered drinks for her and he said they were closed.......so to sum up this rest. 1.rudest staff ever 2. shouldnt of sat us and not our 4th person, 3.should have told us they were closing if they say us order and we cant hang out there then why even go 5. again the WORST customer service i have ever had in my entire life after i have been working at panera for 5+ yrs in sort of mangmnt. i could never evn imagine someone treating a customer this RUDEEE! i will never step foot into this establishment again regardless of how great margaritas are theyre food isnt real mexican anyways atlest or my taste theres real mexican food other places without having the rude service!

    Meh.

This place is too crowded to have a pleasant experience. Tables are awkwardly close. I suppose this could be good if you're looking to meet new people by hopping into their conversation during dinner.

Margaritas are good, albeit a bit pricey. Food is whatever. (You can get better Mexican in this city, for sure.) Service is very friendly, though they seemed understandably overwhelmed on a crowded Saturday night.

    Overall....meh.

After a long day of work and walking around the north side, I decided to stop here and have a "killer" margarita to wind down. Unfortunately, the margarita wasn't so killer. It wasn't strong at all and on top of that, I spent $10 bucks on it. Very disappointing. It didn't even get me tipsy.

I had to ask for chips and salsa, which was kind of annoying seeing that they're supposed to give you those right away. I had to order a Heineken just to get where I wanted to be, but again. One margarita won't do it (at least not a large). This place is incredibly overpriced and overrated, in my opinion. I could have went to Clarke's around the corner where they actually hook up the drinks and are cheaper.

Probably won't go here for drinks again. My bill was over $16 bucks for a margarita that wasn't even strong and a Heineken...

Heard a lot about this place. Finally went cause my friend / boss was having his Birthday dinner here along with drinks.  Place is really nice, parking is really hard to find along side with Meters. Anyways, the Margaritas wete good but service was really,  really bad. It took 30 minutes for our mini taco appetizers to show up. Then when we ordered our food, we got it literally 45 minutes to arrive, only to all arrive separately, cold, and half our orders wrong. Screw this place. The food was horrible.
Not even the Margaritas can bring me back.

    No, not so much
    Nachos no
    Hubs said fajitas yes
Tip: order the 2nd biggest margarita they offer. Stays cold, doesen't melt and economicly better than ordering a second.
Next tip: skip the food, nothing to write home about.

After a long day of traveling, when I finally arrived in Chicago and my friend's suggested a place with "killer margaritas" I was down!  Looking back, I regret that decision.  Being from Texas, I can get pretty amazing Mexican food on a daily basis, and didn't really think about that Mexican food in Chicago was going to be a fail.

I ordered a regular killer margarita, and the size was pretty killer, but I didn't think it was very good, or strong.  I guess everywhere can't be as awesome as Texas...but still, make it strong so us Texas won't remember enough to yelp about it!

I ordered the veggie fajitas but was tempted by many options on their "lite" menu.  Right as our food arrived our server asked us if we would mind moving to a different table because ours was needed to combine with a closer table to accommodate a larger party.  He bribed us with shots and we happily moved.

Overall, it wasn't that bad, just wasn't up to the authentic Mexican food standards I have in my Texas shaped heart, and I regret not insisting on going somewhere more "Chicago".

    Killer margaritas is an understatement.

This is one of my absolute favorite places to go. The food is delicious, the margaritas are outstanding, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is great.

I come here at least once a week for the margaritas and sometimes for dinner. Thursdays are great days to come for all kinds of discounts (including half-off drinks with a drink ticket) and they have a live DJ.

I do prefer the Broadway location, but I don't mind this one either. I love, love Caesar's!

Margaritas are the main attraction. The food completely sucked. I went with a group of friend we all order enchiladas. I am Mexican, and let me tell you, those were not enchiladas. They were more like quesadillas with some crappy tomato sauce on top. If your going to have a Mexican restaurant how about you learn how to cook Mexican food. The service was more of a fast food restaurant service. Very hurried and rude.

Margaritas were good. Those I recommend.

I have been to this place a number of times and have always had a good experience until.....

I came here with my two black friends and were waiting on another friend on Friday night.  We were sat pretty quickly and as we were sitting the waiter comes right away and asks if we want something to drink.  I am looking through the menu when my friend says - can I just get a glass of water for now, and her sister says - and some chips.  He gave the most disgusted face and said "Ju have to order something first, before I bring the chips."  I was mortified but to save the lecture just ordered a blue margarita.

I turn to my left and the table next to us is filled with all white people and they all have water and chips, none had drinks nor food.  hmmmm...

The drink came and the chips. I then pulled the waiter to the side and said, I don't think that ts right that you said we need to order first before the chips come out.  We are waiting for our friend to get here to order so that the food can come out at the same time.  My friends think that this is because of them.  He said in spanish of course, "well Black people have the tendency of ordering water and chips and not wanting to pay and will just sit here."  I was mortified!!!!

The thing that makes this so outrageous is that they come here ALL THE TIME...

I quickly walked up to the owner and explained what happened and he tried to cover up for the waiter.  He said well its people in general not black people.  You have to place an order first.  Then why did the waiter say Black people???  The waiter then started coming towards us when I told him not to come near us.  I asked for a new waiter and all of a sudden got the best service.

My friends didn't want to leave (they had drinks before we got here) if not I would've ran out the door.

I didn't really order food here, so my rating of this establishment might be premature but I think I'm being fair here because I was with a group of 10+, all of whom were eating.  I had already eaten, so I ordered a beer.  The waitress rolled her eyes and asked "you're not eating anything?"

Nope. And now you earned yourself 2 stars, and I'm playing nice.

I don't get the spaghetti soup.

Then again, I don't get why people intentionally choose to go here. I suppose, for the most part, they don't know better. I humor them.

The food is mediocre and the margaritas barely contain booze and are overpriced. That's especially true if you stray from the original flavor. The only redeeming thing is if you're lucky enough to get a good server. Flip a coin.

Meanwhile, I'll graciously pat my pals on their heads when they make the bad decision to go here. At least I can sit by the window and people watch.

This was probably the worst experience I have ever had at any restaurant.  My partner and I went to Cesar's to meet some of my co-workers for drinks and to celebrate a Birthday.  Cesar's has a policy by where they do not seat you at a table, until your whole party arrives.  Okay fine!  We were there early and went to sit at the bar.  My partner was driving and I do not drink, so we requested a virgin margarita.  We were told by the bartender there that they could not do that.  Okay fine!  My partner ordered some guacamole with chips.  When it came, there was no more than two tablespoons of guacamole in the bowl and we were charged $4.00 for this.  Okay fine!   We let this go and waited until the rest of the party arrived.

There were going to be around 9-10 people and eight had already arrived.  Two of the female members in the party asked if we could be seated and they were told that we could not be seated until the entire party arrived.  Both times, the restaurant was very empty and there were plenty of tables available for seating customers.  One of the female members of our party had requested to speak to the Manager.  He came over and after we explained our situation, asked us if we were upset and then informed us, that they do not serve upset people.  My partner and I were so fed up with Cesar's crap by this time, we informed the other members of our party that we were leaving.  On our way out the door, we were told by Cesar's personnel, that they were glad we were leaving.  By this time, we were extremely upset.

We returned to the restaurant to say goodby to our friends, after having had a delicious dinner at Jack's on Halsted.  While walking through Cesar's to locate our friends, we crossed the path of the Manager again and to add fuel to the fire, he stated "oh, you are back?".  We proceeded to find our friends, who by the way were given a booth next to the toilet.  This booth only had enough room for about 2 1/2 people on each side.  One of our party members commented that they were being punished for questioning the restaurant's policy and for asking to speak to a Manager.

We said good bye to our friends and will never set foot in this restaurant again.  It is amazing with our economy the way it is, that a restaurant can afford to be treating customers in this manner.  It kills me to even give them one star, but unfortunately there is no other option.  Cesar's is most certainly a zero star restaurant.
