We loved this place so much we ate here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner. For lunch I had the BBQ Pork Banh Mi, with a side of fries. This ain't your Chinatown Banh Mi, actually it is so far away from the real thing, we should probably just call it a sandwich. You can't put pickled veggies and cilantro on a baguette-based sandwich and call it a Banh Mi... Ranting aside, this was a super yummy sandwich. The egg on top was cooked perfectly, with a lovely runny yolk that breaks open and covers the sandwich. It is super messy to eat, with sauce/yolk running down your hands. This is no time to act like a lady.  And don't get me started on the fries. These are by far the BEST fries I have ever had in my life. It still haunts my dreams. They are everything you want your fries to be and more. Throughout the pile of fries you can find bits and pieces of minced raw garlic and fresh rosemary, making the fries super flavourful and incredibly fragrant.

Now for my dinner... I had the fried chicken. Anytime that I see fried chicken on the menu, I will order it, so expect to see more fried chicken pictures in the future. The portion was huge. They literally give you half of a chicken. Unfortunately it wasn't memorable for me. It was okay.... just okay.

Interesting spot in Little Italy.  Big variety of different kinds of very creative drinks and beers. Rustic and different interior  We went there on a Monday night after 9.30 and although there were plenty of tables and dinner time had pretty much passed, they would not allow us to sit down at a table because you have to consume food in order to sit down.

The interior of this place is killer.  So warm, cozy, industrial, and cold all at the same time.  The outside of the place even has fake ivy on it, which is kind of wierd actually.

The bartenders were pretty chill. There was almost no one when I arrived at 4 in the afternoon. I tried chatting one bartender up about local beers, after ordering a half price local brew for happy hour, but he wasn't particularly interested.  I could tell he didn't really give a fuck to be talking to me so I moved on to the other bartender.  The other dude was cool...straight out of Nashville.  Nice guy who really cared about the bartending trade.

Happy Hour for that particular day was 1/2 price local San Diego pints.  I had a couple of   Ballast Point Sextant Stouts.  Quite tasty. Damn, I wish Atlanta had happy hour.

Hands down some of the best food and drinks I've ever had... actually, the service was top notch as well. We had to wait over an hour to be seated, so prepare for a wait! There's a reason when places have a long wait.. they're AMAZING!

Love going to Craft & Commerce when I'm in Little Italy.

They have one of my favorite beers on tap, Lindeman's Framboise, and I recently discovered they make a craft cocktail out of it called "Lay Lady Lay"... oh yeah, Sexy Rexy!  I downed a couple of those real quick on my last trip in.

I usually come in late nights and have had Paulina as my server on many occasions.  She is super knowledgeable about the foods and libations, and always has a smile on her face.  I love their little work outfits and will continue coming back for more rounds!

    Cheers!

This is a couple weeks old. I wrote it and somehow did not hit Post.  We beat the brunch rush and got a spot on the patio.  The SD Artwalk was going on so we have some good people watching.  The food was very filling and delicious.  The drinks were also good.  They had a limited menu due to the Artwalk, so we will have to go back to try some other items off the menu.

Went here on a Friday night with friends...their idea. Very loud and crowded even at 6:30 which was early. Menu was not appealing. Not one healthy thing on there. Had a salad which was swimming in dressing. Couldn't hear anything and waitress didn't even try to talk to us at the other end of the table.  My husband did like his $14 fried chicken...but seriously it's fried chicken. Oh...and there is only ONE bathroom for the entire place...men and women.  Not sure how that is even to code??

Ok so I reviewed this place about two years ago and was quite displeased.  I gave it another try today and was more than happy with everything.  I went during lunch so it wasn't crazy busy like the last time I went, making the service much quicker and more one-on-one.  Our server was very sweet (almost a bit too sweet according to my date) but it was a great change from my last visit.  The corn dogs are to die for and the cocktails are mind-blowing (although I'll take the $8.00 price tags at Polite Provisions over the $11.00 price tags here).  I had the fried chicken sandwich which was good although the "kaleslaw" was a bit much for my taste buds.  My date had the grilled "ham and cheese" and that was wonderful as well.  All in all, it's a great place, and unlike my last visit, I will now recommend this place to others.

This place used to be pretty good, but maybe it became too popular. Don't let the hype fool your, most times now the food is not that good and the drinks are not as well done as it was months ago. Still a beautiful looking place, with good service and in a good location.

This place is amazing looking, I sat at our table just trying to read everything on the walls.

Took them about an hour to seat a party of 7 on a Saturday night...not bad. In the mean time the staff encourage you to get a drink while you wait. Drinks are really special, and stiff, very pricey but thats expected. Also if you do decide to get a drink while you wait, good luck finding a place to stand with your drink...also expected.

We got a free order of fried pickels just because we were awesome, and we held up our booth for too long so they offered us a round of shots to leave. I'll take free drinks anytime!

    Can't wait to try brunch!

Pretty popular spot on a Friday night -- wait time for a table kinda sucks, but the bar area is cool. The bartenders are super nice and will try to help you whenever they can.

Food was OK. They don't have a huge selection on food...Service was good :) the waitress and some random lady, maybe the manager, kept walking by to check up on us.

A good friend of mine lives right by Craft & Commerce and it's great to wander down from his place to go get a hand crafted drink and something to eat. The inside of the bar is like a speakeasy, but opened up in the front and doesn't require you saying a password at a mysterious doorway. There are bookshelves filled with old books and atlases and animal heads. I know that sounds morbid, but it isn't.

I drank a handmade ginger beer which was completely amazing and spoiled me on bottle ginger beer for the rest of my life. I also ate a tuna sandwich which was fantastic except for the large bone I found in half of the sandwich. Unfortunately, I'd already eaten more than half of the meal, so I didn't feel right sending it back. I just sort of picked around it. The homemade potato chips on the side were a little greasy, but tasted amazing (probably due to the lingering grease). I think next time, I'll order the fish tacos that my buddy got.

Craft & Commerce is fun and friendly and the wait staff will take great care of you. Service was quick and efficient which makes me think that if I had complained about the sandwich they would have been cool about it.

Such an awesome Bar on ALL levels....just go check it out, seriously!
I have not eaten here but will have to try as I heard the fried chicken is delicious.
I love love love the drink: Gold Rush.
The staff is attentive and friendly and they put a lot of effort into decorating details, if you have followed any other of my reviews I am so into that!

This is my favorite restaurant on the west coast and second favorite place of all time. The best burger I have ever had. It was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. I ordered a corn dog as an app and it was so awesome that I wanted to get a couple more, but couldn't as dinner was on its way. It is odd that someone could even like a corn dog that much. They had a great beer selection and made craft cocktails. The bartenders knew what was up. The price was very reasonable for the awesome food. This is a must go to if your San Diego. I will be back next time I am in town.

In our quest to try out some local flavor, Yelp presented us with Craft & Commerce. Seeing that it was relatively close to where we were staying we walked on over. This place was packed. The farmers plate was perfection! Very very tastey... BUT the noise level is pretty ridiculous. It's super hipster (which I am NOT). I would suggest coming during the lunch hour to try it out. The evening was just too much for my liking.

It was a Monday night, and I just wanted a beer and some dinner with my girl after a long day. Craft and Commerce is nearby, and when I saw they had no line and open tables, I thought I had it made.

The poor service and reception started at the door. There were two hostesses. They took our name and number into an iPad and told us it would be 15 minutes. I thought this was strange given the open tables, about which I inquired, but was told there were other parties ahead of us. Prior to going to the bar, I asked if they would just come get us when our table was ready rather than using the text system in the iPad. They looked put out by this request but finally agreed.

The service at the bar was good. We ordered beers and closed out our tabs. In the next 15 minutes, the 2 hostesses did nothing other than talk in the corner. No one was sat. I started to get hungry and irritated that I was not able to order food.

I approached the hostess, and again pointed out the 2 open tables of 2 and the 2 open tables of 6. The gentleman in front of me did the same and was seated at a table of 6 by request. I inquired if we could sit at one of the open tables of 2. The response was an irritated "there's one person ahead of you." To which I replied, since you have two open tables for 2, even with one person ahead of us, you can seat us now. The look of contempt was unbelievable.

We went back to the bar, and continued to sit for another 5 minutes. At this point it's been 25 min since we walked in, no one has been sat at any tables, I'm about to ask for a manager, and one of the hostesses comes to seat us. We were seated outside. We asked about a heater near our table being turned on, the response was "there are blankets available." No explanation as to why we couldn't have the heater turned on when the other 2 on the patio already were. I expressed to the hostess at this time that we knew what we wanted to order and would also like to get some waters.

She responded, "your server will be right over." Again, no explanation as to why with 2 hostesses and no line, one of them could not at least get water or turn on a heater.

We then sat at the table for nearly 10 minutes before the server came. I tried to flag down the bus boy for the adjacent table to request some waters. He did not even make eye contact nor did he bring waters.

Finally the server came. At that point we had been there 35 minutes, no other tables had been sat, we were cold, hungry and tired of waiting. I told the server we were not ordering and were leaving. I would have asked to speak to a  manager, but at that point, I didn't even want anything anymore, other than to go. The server did offer to turn on the heater for us, which was nice, but further made me wonder why the hostesses could not do it.

Here's the kicker, when I expressed the concern over the wait to the server despite there being open tables, the response was "that's to help the servers and so you can get something at the bar," basically admitting that they were intentionally trying to increase alcohol sales by making people wait.

This is by far the worst service experience I've had in San Diego and never plan to return. At no point were the hostesses pleasant or understanding in any way. That job does itself when there's not a line. How could 2 individuals do a worse job than a "seat yourself" sign?

    Review is only for brunch:

I know Craft & Commerce is great for drinks and late-night fun, but we came just looking for some good brunch food. Menu looked promising, too bad it didn't deliver. Food was way overpriced for the quantity and quality.

    - Chicken and waffles- I'm always on the lookout for some good southern food. This was the worst chicken and waffles I've ever had. The chicken was unsalted and bland. The waffle was deceiving- it was cornmeal batter shaped into a waffle. But nothing else tasted like a waffle. I guess the honey butter and blackberry maple syrup were supposed to add the flavor. But then it just tasted like butter and syrup on top of a piece of boring chicken and on top of a piece of lame waffle.

    - Bratwurst hash- sausage with pieces of giant potatoes and eggs, pretty mediocre

    - Biscuits and gravy- two biscuits with a small pool of gravy. If you're expecting great biscuits and gravy like at Urban Solace, this is not that.

    The point of the story:
Don't be a fool and come here for brunch. Drinks are where it's at (or so I've heard).

    I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place already!

This place has to be one of my favorite to go spots in San Diego. The atmosphere of it is so rad and the drinks at the bar are strong.

I love the decor and how unique the feel is inside. It gets super hot inside so we had to switch tables to one by the window. The place is super open and you can go and put your name down and normally the wait isn't too long. We might have made a reservation though, not totally sure.

Anyways, this place is rad. Lots of craft beers and brews and everyone I tried I liked. Will definitely be back to this love of a place.

A fun first night out experience in SD. 3.5 stars of food rounded up to 4 for the drinks.

We loved their artisan cocktails, and watching the bartender- appreciated that he really knew what he was doing. We had the fried chicken, ribs, and a side of pickled veggies for a late night dinner. The pickled veggies were sadly just barely pickled and lacked quite a lot of acid. The friend chicken and ribs were huge entrees and a good value. The chicken was moist and delicious for the dark meat but sadly rather dry when in the breast section. The ribs were yummy although a bit overpowered by the sauce and not the fall-off-the-bone tender that we prefer. Sadly, the biscuit that came with the ribs was also doughy/undercooked. Overall, we still enjoyed the meal although if we come back, we might try some of their other menu items just to shake it up.

Craft and Commerce was definitely the highlight of a mini-roadtrip down to San Diego.

Amazing drinks, creative/attentive bartenders, great decor, and amazing food. We can't wait to go back, just to plant ourselves at the bar and experiment with more drinks!

This place is lovely. Since it's usually super crowded, I don't go often, but have enjoyed it each time I've been. I've mostly ordered drinks, which are absolutely fantastic (Mexican Firedrill? YES!)
The C&C pickles are kind of gross and way too sweet, even though they seemed like a good idea at the time. The ambiance is fun.
Be sure to listen to the recording in the back bathroom. It's hilarious.

First things first. Eat the corn dogs, goddamnit.

Savor that freshly fried, slightly course ground corn meal, sandwiched on both sides with delicious meat (read: baconbaconbaconhotdog). Pat yourself on the back as you dip the whole shebang into your slightly redundant bacon sauce. Now sip your microbrew through your immaculately groomed, "ironic" handlebar moustache.

    Life is good.

Welcome to Craft & Commerce ya f*cking hipster.

Brought to you by the same minds behind Noble Experiment and El Dorado, this place thinks it's cooler than you. The walls are lined with shelves, which are in turn lined with books, which are leather bound and at least six kinds of fancy.

What's that? You need taxidermy to fully enjoy the cornucopia of of flavors dancing tantalizingly on your tongue a la free range bone marrow? You just hit the jackpot, mofo.

Find enclosed, nestled comfortably overhead among an array of many many many other dead animals, a giant stuffed moose head and my personal favorite, a squirrel cowboy riding a raccoon. DAWWWW.

I'm still not sure whether I love this place or want to give it a swift backhand to the dick for being pretentious.

If everything is as good as the corndogs, the latter will have to wait.

Sensational dinner overall, some terrific items with an interior design that is clever as can be. Tables that slide on mini train tracks, taxidermy specimens hanging from the walls and ceiling, a gazillion Edison bulbs filling the room with their orange glow, a wall-size black and white image of the Kool-Aid guy, and countless words scrawled across every imaginable surface. A+ for design execution. As for the food, we all loved our choices:
    The burger: pretty perfect
Fried chicken: satisfied my picky daughter
Fried pickles: Sounded clever, but just OK
House salad: enough for the whole table...great dressing.
Mac and Cheese: A bit rich, but wow.
Devil's Delight (or whatever it was called): Tasty goodness.
Mother's Ruin (cocktail): refreshing and delicious. Could drink several of these but at $11 refrained from doing so.

Great selection of beers, too, and I would have ordered one but the waitress sort of disappeared on us. Prices were reasonable/fair, and provided a good value based on the quality.

Highly recommend seeking it out the next time you're in San Diego, you won't regret it.

I came back here after a pretty meh brunch. This time I came for drinks and appetizers on a Sunday evening. We ordered one of the punch bowls (can't remember the name but it had grapefruit), the fried pickles, sweet potato fries, and the corn dogs.

As usual, the punch bowl was delicious and was plenty for our group of 3. I was a huge fan of the fried pickles and loved the blue cheese dip that they came with. The same dip came with the sweet potato fries, but the fries were pretty average. As for the corn dogs, they were also very tasty. I'm not usually a big fan of corndogs but these had a yummy batter and the hot dog actually tasted like it was a better quality dog.

I definately prefer this place for dinner over brunch. Will be back!

Parking was a bit challenging to find but if you park at a meter after 6 pm you don't have to pay.

The wait on a Thursday night around 7 wasn't too long..only 30 minutes. The place is creatively decorated and there is always something to look at. Service is excellent.

Bone Marrow $15: This is my first time having bone marrow so I have nothing to compare it too...the texture is pretty interesting but the dish itself is rather bland. It comes with greens & toast. The toast is unevenly charred though.

Seasoned Fries $6: nothing special and the sauce taste full of mayo

This is a great craft cocktail bar and eatery. They make a good old fashioned as well as some very interesting concoctions that stick to the original recipes from 100 or so years ago.

My husband and I were visiting San Diego. While wandering around the Gaslamp District and downtown, we were trying to decide where to eat dinner. We jumped on Yelp and headed toward Craft & Commerce. We grabbed a seat at the packed bar while we waited for our table. We ordered our drinks and before we could even cash out, a table was ready for us.

After seeing the portion size of our neighbor's order, we decided to share a burger and fries in order to save room for dessert. The burger was just ok and the fries seemed like they had been double-fried (they were shriveled and dry). We ordered the beignets with spiced chocolate dipping sauce for dessert. They were incredibly heavy and greasy, but the chocolate sauce was pretty awesome.

The atmosphere was very cool. Everything was a mix of reused, vintage, industrial items like hay bail hooks turned into lamps,  reclaimed multi-color wood, stacks of old books, tables with wheels on iron tracks, etc.

If you want a cool place to hang out and enjoy a craft cocktail and maybe a bite, you should give this place a try.

Craft and commerce is my kind of restaurant. We came here for brunch and I immediately liked the feel of the place. A bit quirky with the animal heads and skins on the walls and ceiling, but it gave it character.

I was also amused by the bathrooms which has a soundtrack of actors reading negative reviews of the place in oh so pretentious voices. Definitely made me smile.

Food wise, I ordered an open faced proscoutto egg sandwich which was so tasty, served with arugula, and the egg was perfectly cooked (over easy). I also got to try one of the salads with seared tuna which was also delicious. Drink wise, we went ahead and ordered one of the giant bowls of punch which is served in teacups, alcoholic teatime   :-).

Overall, I liked this place a lot. The food was delicious, the portions were generous, the service was great, the drinks were stiff and the feel of the place was comfortable, think wooden seats/tables, modern rustic-steel feel.

Came here at 6pm on a Saturday with friends who literally would not stop raving about it. The place was pretty busy but we were able to get a table for 3 after a 15 minute wait (which we spent hanging out and ordering drinks at the bar).

    My recs:
Fried pickles - I didn't expect much but these were so. very. good.
Hearts and Minds (champagne cocktail) - not too sweet and not too strong. Just a very bubbly classy drink to sip on.

I love that this is in Little Italy, a bit removed from the rest of Downtown so parking was way easier. Come try this place!

Nice atmosphere.  Stopped in here after work one night to check it out.  A lot of couples that night.  The music was a little loud but not enough where one could not have a conversation.

I ordered a burger medium rare.  It was cooked to my liking and very juicy.  Tried the Father Frank and Michelada, mixed drinks the include beer as an ingredient.  Something new for me to try.  They were refreshing and had a nice taste to them.  The Michelada had a little kick to it which sort of woke me up a bit.

The service was very friendly.  I was eating alone and did not get that weird look.  When I walked up, the hostess asked if I was eating, said yes, and was sat a table.  Often times, I am asked if the bar is ok if I am eating alone.  Most of the time it's not a problem but some times I prefer a table.  It gives me a little more space to spread out.

I like the vibe.  At first the stairs between the 3 different levels was a little strange.  It has to do the with slope of the street I guess.  It made the space seem large but separated the areas in to more intimate spots for small groups.

This is probably the best restaurant in Little Italy, SD. Don't just come here for drinks because the food they produce here is very flavorful. I'm not sure what happens in their kitchen, but there's some talent back there for sure. You can't go wrong with this:
ode to the burger - aged cheddar, onion marmalade, tomato, lettuce, house sauce
I believe it used to be called the Heritage Burger. They also don't serve a Banh Mi dish anymore, sadly. I bet that would have been pretty good.

They have lots of tables that are long/short and inside/outside. They also have a lot of bar space. I came alone and it was easy for me to hop on a bar stool, grab a bite, and take off. Service could've be better. Everything else (the atmosphere, interior design, etc.) made up for the bartender being inattentive. Albeit, I highly recommend getting this place for any culinary art guru looking for quality food. I look forward to trying more of their food and drinks.

Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum.  And yum.

I don't know how many times I've been here, and I have no idea why I haven't reviewed it yet.  I love this place.  Love the vibe, love the drinks, love the decor.  It's a great place to hang out.  I took a group of out-of-towners here a couple of weeks ago, and we had a delightful lunch on a Saturday afternoon.  I came back just a few days ago while waiting to pick up my friend from the airport and had a drink at the bar... it beat driving around aimlessly trying to find something else to do.

The drinks are great here.  They are knowledgeable and can easily create something you'll love, even off the menu.  Love scotch and bourbon?  They got you covered?

Fried pickles are pretty fab too.

I came here w/ a couple of friends kinda randomly. We wanted to go to Extraordinary Desserts after, so we Yelped this place and we were extremely pleased!

But SERIOUSLY, hipsters of SD...this is your haven as Natalie F. already mentioned ;)

I ordered a beer and had a really well-made burger.

All of the food looked really good and delicious!

The beer menu was fantastic, I'm not a huge beer fan, but the waitress was really knowledgeable!

And the best part, the location! I love Little Italy and all of its little trendy restaurants!

Busy bar, check in and they'll text you when your table is ready.

We got our text and was able to be seated right when we got there.  We had a choice of sitting on the patio or indoors.  We opt to sit on the patio.

NOTE: They do not serve alcohol after 10pm for patio patrons.

I'm a CROWN ROYAL drinker and they did not have that.  I opt to drink another kind of whiskey so that still worked out.  Great beer selections that my friend had.

The Corn Dog is sooooo gooood... I guess you can't go wrong with bacon wrapped around it.

Craft & Commerce is a cool and chill bar to hangout at.  The wait can be long and the bar is always busy.

I have been here 3 or 4 times for dinner now. They have a old school look going for them and a good attention to what they prepare and serve.
First off, and I have to explain it every time I take someone here, there is no ketchup for your fries or burger or to slather over you vegetables. The thinking behind this is taste what the cook has prepared instead of just some food under ketchup.

I recommend the Mac and cheese. The Aged cheese is so good. Savory in flavor with mushrooms. Could not get enough. The dish could be split if you want. The cheese really is filling.

Another plate I recommend is the Barrutia salad with chicken
It is a refreshing salad. Real fresh mozzarella. Blackberries and strawberries very good.

The Service is good and helpful when you need them.

One note, that isnt controllable by the management. It can get a bit loud in the evening when crowded. It is a popular spot so there is going to be a lot of noise. So if you are looking for dinner conversation or a quiet evening this isnt the spot. If you want some good food and to talk with your friends (leaning in and raise  your voice a bit) then you will like it.

I love Craft and Commerce, especially the beer selection and cocktails. Hands down some of the best in San Diego.

I am a little disappointed in the recent menu changes. The food used to be excellent, fresh and innovative.

Over the last 3 months, the food has taken a downward spiral. The yummi Duck salad, the good seafood specials and fresh salads have been replaced with mediocre cuisine - a real shame in essence.

I will gladly come and spend my money on the beer, cocktails and good service, but wont eat there any time soon.

Please bring back the old chef.

    Love the idea of C&C.

I got the Fork and Knife Sandwich: a nice slab of bread, topped with goat cheese, proscuitto, a fried egg, and arugula spring mix. SO GOOD AND SO BIG, you need a fork and knife to eat it! The sandwich also came with a side of fries, yum!!

My buddy got the meatball sub. Basic sandwich baguette with four huge meatballs, topped with melted cheese, marinara sauce, and some fries on the side.

We tried the Ginger Soda too. Has a nice kick in it, but if you aren't a fan of ginger, ginger ale, or ginger beer (like me) YOU'LL HATE IT. but if you do.. IT'S THE BEST THING I'VE EVER DRANK THAT DIDN'T HAVE ALCOHOL! haha. It's brewed in house as well which I also liked about it. So fresh and... It's actually really difficult to describe but OMG. Okay.. Moving on..

The interior has like an explorer, industrial, older kinda decor. Tons of books on one wall, animal heads, and wooden tables with a splash of red and green seats. Servers have a cool style too that go with the interior.

I will definitely be back for dinner.

I love pretty much everything about this place except how hard it is to get a seat at the bar. Its got a super cool design down to the details. They only sit you at a table if you plan on eating dinner (wait for a table is usually 45-60 min), so that means getting cozy next to the group whose drinks looked almost finished so you can vulture their bar stools.

I've never had dinner here, as there are not a lot of veggie options, but the fried pickles are delicious to eat while at the bar. I've had a variety of cocktails here and they were all delicious. I'd have to say the Eastern Prospector is my favorite, its like an orange-infused bourbon. Yum!

Super cool place, I highly recommend it for the cocktails. But don't ask for vodka or ketchup - they don't have it.
