Popped in for a pint during the Let Them Eat Art event last Friday night.  We did not order any food or stay long....simply passing through as we jumped from venue to venue in the neighborhood.

The layout and interior immediately made me feel like I was in a place I could grow to enjoy.  They have Stag on tap for a whopping $2.50.  You can't beat that.  They actually had a nice selection of tap and bottled beers, which will always win points in my heart.  Our server was super nice and funny so no qualms there.

At any rate - will have to pop in again and perhaps sample the food menu.  It is certainly a place that appears to have potential.

A great hole in the wall,  with very pleasant service.  I've been several times and am always satisfied if not very pleased.   I've done brunch,  and dinner,  light snacking, and just sit on my ass casual drinking on the back patio.  I find myself in a quandary, because I want the place to do well,  but I don't want it crowded.  at the same time,  I don't want it to go away.  it's maplewood's little secret for small restaurant/bars.

Kung Fu movies playing on the wall inside,  and MC5 or Iggy Pop or the like quietly piped in for some avant garde ambience.

Food is always good,  from french toast to frog legs,  Meatloaf sliders to Waffle fries,  you can't screw up.  plus they have my favorite beer - La Fin Du Monde,  as well as a healthy selection of things besides the run of the mill AB products.

went again last night,  and actually pondered, "why is the service and food better here than some of the 'higher class' establishments?"

When this place first opened I was ecstatic!  I thought I had found my new bar in Maplewood!  As I had just moved back to St. Louis after 7 years in the mystical realm of Portlandia, it gave me a homesick vibe of PDX, but with just enough touch of STL that I felt I had found my niche!

The films that were shown, the records that were played, the ambiance and the really varied food selection was amazing!  Oh, and the beer!  A large tap selection, but still had my Busch in bottles for my whisky beerback!

Alas, something changed.  It almost became too self-referential and anti-STL vibe, instead of embracing the Keep St. Louis Weird it became a farcical version of the Hipster Hideout.  The bartenders and waitresses became snarly to the point of pissing me off and the outright lack of connection has turned me off of what was to be a gem of a place.

A case in point-  Now, I don't consider myself to be too much of a hipster, I mean I have Ray Bans but I wear overalls and I have friends who are not at the least "hipster".  I took a good friend of mine, a nice Christian woman who is over 45 and still likes her Michelob Ultra, to The Crows Nest.  Yes, she isn't the stereotypical customer for them, but she is a paying one, so you would hope her experience wouldn't be so different.  We didn't have table service and their kitchen had closed (even though it was only 8pm) so my friend saddled to the bar and waited... and waited... she flagged the bartender who nodded and returned to his phone (it wasn't busy- which is why I assumed they closed food so early) finally she got to order and he literally said "Really?  Michelob Ultra?"  My kind friend laughed it off as if it was a joke but I was SEETHING-  and I vowed to never come back.

I walk by occasionally and look inside with longing... I want it to be the place I first went into- but I guess I will just have to settle for somewhere else.

This place is pretty interesting - it's like an upscale gastro pub with a twist of cuban/caribbean and heavy metal. Interior seating area is small but with fun decorations, and the menus are made from old album covers! I went there once but would definitely go back. Got the fish po-boy and it was fantastic. The side salad was more than just a bag of lettuce - it had feta cheese and a nice mix of greens. Our server was nice and friendly, and recommended good beer choices. It's good food, and prices are totally decent - especially considering the quality.

I came back, flying solo, for the Full Metal Sunday brunch. I had no idea that they even served brunch, but a friend of mine mentioned that things had improved as of late, so I stopped by to investigate.

I was really, really pleased with my meal. The eggs benedict were so f-ing perfect:  the eggs were lightly breaded and fried/ cooked to perfection... something I couldn't wrap my head around. They came with bacon, fried arugula (which is absolutely amazing), and a brown butter hollandaise on top of English muffin. They have truly perfected my perfect breakfast item. My meal came with a choice of sides, but of course, I had to go with potatoes to soak up all the messy sauce-  they were lovely as well.

As someone who prefers Simon & Garfunkel over Motorhead, I am surprised to say I even enjoyed the music. The bloody mary didn't hurt my feelings either.

I am really happy with this Sunday brunch menu and look forward to bringing my husband back to try everything out again. Service was much better for me this time, and I've been told my cranky server has left the building permanently.

I really loved going to the Bleeding Deacon on Chippewa, and my wife and I were really upset when it suddenly closed.  I had not heard that the Crow's Nest had opened up as a sort of reincarnation.
My wife and I were there tonight, and we didn't order anything crazy or stay too long, but we had a really great time!  We both had house salads, which were huge and delicious!  I had the vegetarian chili and she had the hummus plate.  Both of us really enjoyed!
Also, a really great selection of beers on tap, as well as bottles and cans!
Long story short - while we're not pleased that the location is further from us, but we really like the new digs!

Where to start.... Hmmmm... Oh I know... Music. To say their music is loud is an understatement. I know it's a Friday night and people want to party but when you're a restaurant don't you think it should be a little softer so people can talk? Our date night consisted of one of us saying something and the other person saying "HUUUUUUH????" Not pleasant at all... And that was before we even ordered our food. I wish I could say that it gets better but it only went downhill from here.

The waitress was nice but it was the kinda nice where she's not really interested in how you are but she had to ask. When we asked for a drink menu she pointed to the board and walked away (if she said something I didn't hear it). When she finally came back we ordered a few beers but the first few types my boyfriend ordered weren't available, which was pretty annoying.

I wasn't very hungry when we ordered so I had my boyfriend order a side salad with his sandwich and then we ordered the gravy fries (since I had heard they were a must try). Bleeeeech. We received the fries first and it tasted like they put lukewarm gravy on cold fries thinking it would warm up the fries. Not good at all. Not only were they cold upon arriving but they had so much dill on them it was overwhelming. We tried to pick off the gravy and eat the fries cause they were actually pretty good. The beau liked his sandwich but the salad was underwhelming. I took two bites and couldn't stomach it.

I truly wanted to like this place but unfortunately it left me hungry (no really, I ate a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch when we got home) and disappointed.

All I have to say is Metal Brunch!  Every Sunday you can enjoy brunch while listening to metal.  I love brunch and I love metal, put the two together and I'm in heaven.  I ordered that chicken and waffles and Mike O. had the breakfast tacos.  Both good and we each had two beers.  They offer a nice selection of local bears on tap as well as bottled beers.  If metal isn't your thing, but you want brunch...don't be scared because the music isn't too loud.  The brunch menu is small, but there are enough choices to satisfy most people.

Went back not too long ago for a birthday party.  We were able to have a section saved for us toward the front of the restaurant.  There wasn't enough room for everyone to eat at the table at the same time so we sat at the bar.  We had good service.  My only complaint is that they were out of steak for the steak frites....on a Saturday night.  I really had my heart set on steak.  We did order the meatloaf supper and The Fidel.  The meatloaf was so good!  Good texture and nice flavor.  This might be better than mine and I make a mean meatloaf.  The mashed potatoes were nice and the green beans added a nice freshness.  I would order this again no questions asked.  I hope on my next visit I can try the steak frites.  The Fidel was fine.  Nothing is jumping out at me about it, but here was nothing wrong with it.  The meatloaf was just that good I can't remember.

There is a screened in patio on the back of the restaurant.  You can park behind the building and come in through the back.  There is a full bar.  Plenty of bar seating, a handful of booths and some high top tables.  This isn't the best choice for a large group unless you don't mind casual eating in shifts...they just don't have the space for a large party.

I await my next visit.  If I lived closer I could see myself here way too often for my own good.

Love the crows nest!!  Always have great food, great service, except for them being out of a particular beer a time or too.  Their brunch menu is great, LOVE the french toast.... And of course the bloody mary!

This place has a retro punk vibe... it feels eerily similar to Hair of the Dog on Washington.  Same shotgun set-up.  Same cramped corners.  Same weird but strangely cool people, same loud rock through a shitty speaker system.

I was here last night during their Halloween party.  Although it was cramped, I was able to make my way to the bartender when needed.  People were krunked in some pretty awesome costumes.

As Maplewood becomes more and more hipster, there has to be places that these music loving folks can go.  The Crow's nest is that place as their menu is encased in old record covers and their jukebox is filled with the type of music rarely heard on the radio.  A few pinball machines sit near the entrance to entertain you while you wait for your food.  The interior is clean and lined with some really cool life sized movie posters adding to the ambiance.  The food is quite inspired, and they even have a south city classic on the menu not seen in many restaurants for quite some time.  The calves brains are actually quite good and if you can get past the texture, they may end up being one of your favorite dishes.

Went here on a Saturday night with a few friends around 9pm. We stayed for a few drinks and a brownie sundae ("the best thing you'll never eat" my lactose tolerant friends assured me). I was really stoked to see that they had Pyramid Apricot. The waitress was quite attentive. It never really filled up, despite being there until 11:30... which might have made me stay.

    Pro: drinks, brownie sundaes
    Neutral: atmosphere, service

I have been in here a couple of times and had a great experience each time. The first time, I stopped in for a happy hour drink and food. They have an innovative menu that I was surprised to find. I had to try several items. The bartender was friendly and willing to chat. I often ask numerous questions about a place when I get the opportunity. I find some people are willing to chat, while others aren't always. They have a great beer selection from many local breweries. I love that St. Louis bars are becoming much more local brewery friendly.  Maplewood is becoming quite a little scene for great restaurants and The Crows Nest is doing their part.  I love the atmosphere, old movie and music posters and the music playing has always pleased.

I started out loving this place when it first opened. The food was great, the beers were fantastic and the service was exceptionally good. I don't know what happened, but they have gone downhill fast.

Suddenly, they have take things off of the menu that were fantastic, only to have them replaced with things that are subpar. Or, they have left things on the menu, but tweeked them in a way that was not for the better. For example, the flat iron steak sandwhich used to come with brie. It was amazing. Now, suddenly, it comes with a slimy square of what is supposed to be swiss, but seems more like white american. You would think they would have made some noticeable alerts on the menu about this or at least had the staff let people know when they ordered.

Also, while they carry Civil Life Brown Ale, which is wonderful, they are almost always out of it. In fact, they are often out of MANY beers. This happens way too often to be an accident. Someone is screwing up. Also, the wait staff that they used to have have suddenly all disappeared and been replaced with people who seem vacant at best, and stupid at worst and honestly don't seem to care about anyone's experience.

I would have given this place five stars before all of this happened. It was one of my favorites. Fingers crossed that they'll come back to life, but they seem to be on a downhill slide. It's a shame.

Rookie of the day, found this place to be a relaxed and friendly atmosphere to eat, drink, and be whatever you will lol, unfortunately didn't eat anything this trip but lookn forward to trying the 'gravy waffle fries' next time to watch some football on their bigass tv and listening to good music.

If you're looking for an unpretentious hipster pub where nearly everyone has visible tattoos, the beers range from trashy to craft, and the food is an eclectic take on old familiars, this place is for you.

The Crow's Nest has been launched by the same people who brought us the Bleeding Deacon, and they seem to have learned a few lessons from that endeavor.  the atmosphere is welcoming and unpretentious despite its hipster vibe.  It's a dark, wood-paneled kind of place.

The service is (mostly) prompt, and the food is creative and fun.  There's a great grilled cheese, a very tasty steak dip, a unique take on the familiar Cuban sandwich (called the Castro).  The gravy waffle fries are a unique take on what could have been a plain menu item.  I've yet to try the calves' brains or hte frog legs, but that's about as wild as the small menu gets.   All the food is affordable and seems priced right.  Menus are assembled on record album covers, and there's usually some very old French film playing (with subtitles) projected on a screen on the wall.  I haven't tried their brunch yet, but I'm curious, given that a few Sundays ago, they were advertising a "heavy metal brunch."

My only complaint is that they are frequently out of several menu items, and they have not been great about telling me that before I order.  I've been told by someone who knows the building that there is extremely limited storage space, so that is probably the deciding factor.  It's not a major issue for me, but I wish they were better about communicating it, or possibly writing on a board somewhere which menu items are 86ed.

all in all, I love the feel, ambiance, and menu at this laid back and unique pub.  I look forward to possibly being a regular here.  Especially once I get a few visible tattoos.

I would call this a gastropub, though I know that name gets bandied around a lot.  I've been here a few times in the last month or two, and it's been nearly empty.  A shame, because the food is some of the best I've found in the St. Louis area in this genre of place.  Count on interesting takes and salads and sandwiches.  For devotees, calves' brains are on the menu!  None for me thanks, but I'll definitely be back.

As a bar, Crow's Nest would probably receive four stars.  As a restaurant, it's much closer to two.

I've spent a few late nights hanging around Crow's Nest, and the place reminds me of legendary Hi-Pointe or Hair of the Dog.  Very metal/punk rock.  The beer selection is fairly decent, covering local craft beer and cheap swill.  Considering the area of Maplewood, CN would be my preferred hangout spot.  Perhaps a great stop after a few quality beers at the Schlafly Bottleworks.

As for the food, I read the other reviews and heard the same things:  overpriced and disappointing.  My wife and I came in for brunch today and ordered chicken and waffles (ten bones) and a bacon and egg cheeseburger (eleven!).  I was willing to get past the price if the food was good.

The waitress placed the dishes in front of us, and the first thing that I noticed was the portions.  My wife was literally given half a waffle and three chicken strip.  My sandwich came on an English muffin and looked more like a slider than a full cheeseburger.  I could count the waffle fries on my fingers.

As a i stared down at this eleven dollar meal, I started to fantasize about all the great meals that I could have had this afternoon.  Overall, the food was solid but nothing to go out of the way for.  Worst of all, I was still hungry!

Crow's Nest has the potential to be the ultimate dive bar in the StL, but to accompish that task, the management needs to think more like a rock 'n' roll bar and less like a Maplewood joint.

This review is for beverages only.  However we did see menus and a random plus is that all of their menus are on the back of old LP covers.  A+ for being unique.

This place is definitely the definition of a hipster bar, and that's neither a positive nor a negative.  The atmosphere is nice, with some cool music from a band you've never heard of playing with the old time movie being shown on a projector at the back of the bar.  The location overall is very narrow but high top tables in the back, with booths along the wall and ample bar stool make it comfortable even on a crowded night.

Their pints selection is one of the better ones in the neighborhood, it actually happens to be where I fell in love with Tank no. 7 from boulevard (if you haven't tried it, find it).  Bartenders were funny and sarcastic, which fits the bill quite well, but always prompt to serve up another pint.

I've been a couple times now, and am never against going back.

There's a difference between being unaffected and being rude. The bartender at The Crow's Nest was rude...and wore a faux-hawk. Sigh. I'll tell you what it ain't, it ain't the Bleeding Deacon; and it ain't a place I want to get drunk at.

I want to give this place an amazing review but I can't. First it is Bleeding Deacon 2.0, second this spot was the Red Lion and he Grateful Inn which were both great places.

For an appetizer we had their truffle fries with bacon and dill truffle sauce that was amazing but that was really the only good thing they had going for them.  For dinner I had a sandwich that had celery, hummus, apples and mushrooms on it and I felt that didn't have that much flavor.

Our waitress was nice but at the end when she gave us our bill she charged us for something we didn't order, she did take it off but it was pretty slow in there so I don't know how she would have thought we ordered that.

The Boyfriend and I went to The Crow's Nest on a whim, as we were tired of the same old places. This funky little restaurant did not let us down!

First off, the menus are awesome - they are old album covers with the menu attached inside. (My menu was the "Physical" album by Olivia Newton John. Love it.) Second, our waitress came over right away to take our drink orders and to answer any food questions that we had. Third, the menu itself is pretty unique. They have interesting items such as frog legs and calves brains, but also other more mainstream items such as flatbread pizzas and salads. However even these items have a nice twist to them.

I got the Steak Salad which was delicious - flank steak cooked perfectly, fresh, crispy lettuce, gorgonzola cheese, diced veggies, and a tomato buttermilk dressing. It was a huge portion so I definitely didn't leave hungry!

The Boyfriend got the Meatloaf Sliders with fries...and now that's all he talks about! Four good-sized sliders with a meatloaf/green bean/bacon ketchup mixture inside of a delicious Hawaiian bread bun. The fries are your basic french fries, but the seasoning they use adds a little pep to the taste.

Our bill was about $5 more than one might expect to pay for food items like these, but it was well worth the few extra bucks. Overall we were really pleased and plan to come back to try a few other items.

We also randomly wound up coming back here the very next night to meet some friends for drinks. My bar tab wasn't an arm and a leg like some other bars we go to and we had a great experience that night too! And by the time we left, The Boyfriend had told the entire bar about his love for the Meatloaf Sliders. Ha.

Came to The Crow's Nest on Saturday night for a few drinks with some friends and ended up having a really great time.  The service was good and the music that was playing was awesome.  Also, I have to say that the atmosphere inside was pretty awesome.  The place definitely has some character and I was pleasantly surprised at the service and smells of the food coming out.

I didn't get a chance to sample any of the food as we had just come from down the street so everyone was pretty much full and ready to get their drink on.  A funny thing that happened was that it appeared they were running out of glass wear before they could replenish it.  All of our drinks came out first in tumblers, then in rocks glasses, then in what appeared to be just shot glasses and then back to rocks glasses.

Aside from that we all had a good time. For 4 people we had a tab of about $66 which wasn't too bad.  Not a bad spot and will definitely have to come back here for the food.

My centrally located pick for my birthday dinner with friends, and I'm not gonna lie, Crow's Next wasn't even on my radar until my brother started bartending there.  I read a few reviews and thought it sounded up my crowd's alley, so why not patronize those that pay my family member's bill, right?

Overall, I'd say The Crow's Nest is pretty appropriately labelled with 3 stars - A-Ok for this trip.  Would I go out of my way to visit again?  Probably not.  Would I stop by if I were looking for a bite in the area?  Sure.

For my entree, I ordered the mac n cheese, which was good, but when I make or order a mac n cheese, I tend to like the creamier, smack me in the face with some cheese varieties.  This stayed on the drier cheese end of the spectrum.  Good enough, but not my favorite.  I did try a bite of a friend's grilled cheese w/ bacon which was good and another's BAT (bacon arugula and tomato) that I had waffled back and forth choosing myself, and I should have gone with the BAT!  My husband ordered the pulled pork which he said was good, but the sauce wasn't his fave.  I'll chock that up to personal preference.

We didn't order dessert, because the offerings didn't sound all that appealing to me.  Perhaps the Pear Gorgonzola Bread Pudding would intrigue me more post-finicky pregnant belly.  I had read a stltoday review referring to some sort of chocolate-y bread pudding concoction that sounded awesome.  Alas, it wasn't on the menu.  Sad day.

The service - eh.  Our waitress seemed a little out of it, and the guys once or twice just gave up and ended up ordering beers at the bar which I never take as a good sign of service.

Perhaps a future visit will result in higher marks.

    The food? Excellent!

    The service? Not as excellent.

The service was basically my only gripe about my experience here. I was meeting some friends for a birthday dinner, and my husband and I arrived a little earlier than anyone else. We put together a table to seat 6 (a bit of a challenge here) and then asked the waitress what beers they had on tap. She looked kind of confused, then said we could just go look at the bar ourselves. While we have legs, and had no problem walking the 5 feet to the bar to look at the options, it was still a rude response from our "server."

Her attitude towards us (or rather her having to be at work possibly) never got better, though I imagine she was just having a bad day. Considering that was my only complaint with the evening, I wouldn't hold it too much against Crow's Nest as a whole.

I had the grilled cheese w/ bacon and it was heavenly! The mac n cheese was tasty as well.

The Maplewood location isn't close enough for us to travel back to often, but if someone suggested it, you'd hear no complaints from me.

God Bless you Crow's Nest for filling the void in my stomach that has been there since Deacon closed. You're not the same, but you're close and I really think I can love you just as much (totally picturing that Brothers movie with Toby McGuire here. Deacon has died and I've taken up with his hotter brother... weird reference? Yeah, I agree, but whatever).

Went in here last night with Nicole S. after work because we've both been wanting to try it out. It was pretty dead at just before 6, but by the time we left it was packed. Our waitress let us know it was happy hour, so we ordered beers and potato frites, which were $4 for happy hour. OMG were those things good! The waffle fries were cooked perfectly, the gravy was delicious and the bacon was the perfect way to top it off. Go get this NOW.

I was beyond thrilled to find the album cover menus alive and well here. Their contents were similar to that of Bleeding Deacon, but definitely a smaller selection. Also, props to whoever wrote the menu. The fine print scattered throughout is hilarious. I was torn on several options (the have a slider of the day!) but ended up going for the grilled cheese. This was my Deacon staple, and I just had to know. Side options are green beans, waffle fries, house salad or ceasar. Personally I wish there were a few more options, but I'll live.

Ok, so the grilled cheese verdict: FANTABULOUS.  HOLY CRAP IT WAS SOOOO GOOD. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. It wasn't the Deacon version, but dare I say it was better? It's going to take everything I have to branch out next trip, but if that damn grilled cheese was any indication, everything else will rock too.

I will keep on hoping the Deacon will rise again, but even if it does it'll have to fight for my attention with Crow's Nest.

I'm upgrading from 3 to 4 stars.  Since our first visit shortly after they opened (see previous review), I have now been here two additional times.

On visit 2 for lunch, I had the Angus Cheeseburger, which was pretty good.

On visit 3 for dinner, I had the Steak Frites, and it - along with some great drinks and superior bartending - will be the reason I come back next time.  The Steak Frites (see pic) had steak cut into slices served atop tempura'd greens atop of fries with slightly more than a drizzling of some sweet sauce (reminded me of a plum sauce) that went superbly with the steak cuts.  It was really very good.

The soundtrack in this place (more so at dinnertime) was fun, too.  I was hearing all kinds of songs I hadn't heard in a while (playing from an iPod behind the bar I think), which put me in a great mood, and I was sorry we had to go.

So if there are just two of you, I would recommend grabbing a seat at the bar, chatting it up with the friendly bartenders, and ordering a meal from the cool menu's housed inside record album covers.

And how can you NOT like a place that posts their hours in the front window for "School Nights" and Non-School Nights.

What a fun small place with great service!

We had a rather large group that I kind of caught the tail end of, and I was super starving.  As soon as the leavers were leaving and the new arrivals got settled the server was there and promptly brought me a menu.  There were so many words on there that I could not pronounce if I tried.

I chose Mac N Cheese because I figured in a place like this, it's not going to be Kraft.  I was right and my dinner was awesome.  They were pasta shells, but I won't hold that against them because the Cheese was so much better than Velveeta.  I never wanted my bowl to end!

Can't wait to go back and try something that I cannot pronounce!  :o)

I came here last night with a friend. It was a spur of the moment sort of decision:

Him: 'What do you feel like doing?'
    Me: 'Eating. Maybe drinking?'
Him: 'Have you been to The Crow's Nest?'
Me: 'No, but I've been dying to try it. Let's go!''

A local spot in my 'hood. I'm all about eating locally. Aimee should be proud.

Anyway, it's in the spot where The Red Lion used to be, and it looks exactly the same. Lots of seating in the form of high top tables, booths, and of course, the bar.

We grabbed some seats at the bar, and the super friendly bartender handed us some menus.

But first, we drink! The Crow's Nest has a great variety of beers on tap. I went with the Urban chestnut zwickel, which I loved. There was also stag, a few other urban chestnut brews, some selections from schafly, etc.

Food-wise, the selection was good. My friend went with the black angus cheeseburger, cooked medium (atta boy!) with waffle fries.

The burger was fantastic, even though it was more on the medium-well side. Sigh. The waffle fries were awesome, too. Super crispy and hot. Love!

I wasn't super hungry, but when I saw that bread pudding was on the menu...

You know how this story ends, right? Pear Gorgonzola Bread Pudding. Get in mah belly!

It was quite good. It came with a delicious caramel sauce, slices of pear, and crumbles of Gorgonzola. The BP itself had the perfect texture; it reminded me of French toast, which I enjoyed.

Prices were reasonable, and service was fantastic.

I'm a huge fan, and I'm happy that the crow's nest is in my hood!

Here's to hoping it stays around for a long time.

I'd say Crow's Nest is 3.5 Stars and very close to 4. Come on Yelp, figure out away for us to give 1/2 stars it really does make a difference.

I was in Maplewood "shopping local" on Manchester Avenue and was hit with the lunch time hunger. I took the opportunity to not only shop local, but to dine local as well and what a better choice then the new Crow's Nest.

I was promptly greeted by the bartender as I entered and told I could sit wherever I liked. I took one of the open booths across from the bar and started to take notice of their draft beer taps. They had one of my favorites, Schlafly's Pale Ale so it was a no brain er.

After looking the menu over I choose the Cheeseburger with cheddar and Waffle Fries. As the server AKA bartender,  (he was doing double duty and doing it well) left my table, I checked my iPhone for the time. Since there have been so many comments about how long it takes, I wanted to time it. Must have been a good day, my burger was at my table in under 15 minutes.

I ordered mine medium and it was done to my liking. It was garnished with lettuce, red onion and tomato. I do not know where they get their tomatoes,  but for a late fall tomato it was excellent. When presented, I thought the bun was a little over toasted on the grill due to the dark coloring, but I was wrong.  It was better then a grilled one at Culver's or Steak - n - Shake.

To be fair Crow's Nest, I will tell you now that I will be back.

I was there for late lunch, only 1 other table being served.
Atmosphere: the place needs a new identity.  Looks the same as Red Lion.
Meal:  BLT (they call it BAT) with waffle fries.  The bread and bacon were delicious, they just need to change up the ration.  The sandwich consisted of 4 slices of bread. ugh. carb bomb.  I took off 2 slices, but by doing this, also eliminated some of the aioli.  The bacon was hard to identify and find - there simply wasn't enough of it, and it seemed to be all in pieces instead of strips.  The fries came out at room temp. w/o seasoning (not even s&p).  jeez

Note to sandwich chefs:  Please put shredded lettuce on sandwiches instead of whole leaf; doing so eliminates other ingredients from being pulled out with a hearty piece of green.

Although this restaurant is closer to home, I may just have to rely on their other place (Bleeding Deacon) for good eats......until further notice.

If you like your food served late, this is the place for you. Thirty minutes for a cheese burger at 8 pm? They make up for it however by serving the food cold, like it was sitting in the ready to be served window while the waitress had more important things to do. Not a lot of organization here, no one keeping track of the wait list for table, its pretty much a free for all. This place needs a new manager.

If you only want an interesting place to drink, not a bad place, looks just like the old Red Lion, but the service is terrible and the menu very limited.

I've only been here twice now, but I already like it better than what used to be in this space along the Maplewood strip - The Red Lion.

The first time we were here, they had just opened and only had a few beers on tap, as well as a very limited bar. The full menu was there, however, and we opted for the special. The special was beef tenderloin (or some other very tender steak) sandwich. Absolutely delicious, as were the fries that came with it. We've also tried the truffle fries, which were positively sinless. I'm excited to come back and try the rest of their menu, including their appetizer of frog legs!

The second time, we bellied up at the bar and enjoyed their respectable-for-the-size-of-the-bar craft beer menu. There are at least 10-12 craft beers on tap here, probably over half of which are local. Schlafly (obvi), Urban Chestnut, Perennial Artisan Ales, just to name a few. Prices were reasonable - around $4-$6.

With living in the area, and having a penchant for craft beers, I'm sure I'll be a regular here soon!

The Bleeding Deacon's little brother seems off to a good start.  The place was pretty busy on a Friday night -- a lot busier than the previous occupant, The Red Lion, was when I went on a weekend night some time ago.

The menu is pretty small, limited to about five appetizers, around ten entrees, and if I recall three desserts.  The limited selection leaves a lot to be desired.  I remember there being hummus, frog legs, truffle fries, a pulled pork sandwich, a B.A.T. (Bacon, Arugula & Tomato) sandwich, a cheese sandwich, a seasonal sandwich, chicken, fish and chips, meatloaf, steak frites, and mac & cheese.

We started out with the hummus, which has a little twist: It's made with peanut butter instead of the typical tahini (sesame paste).  My wife took the first taste and made an unhappy face... I took a bite and was also wondering whether I like it or not.  However, after eating more, we both decided that we liked it pretty well.  It was a little different, but not too different, than regular hummus.

My wife ordered the aforementioned B.A.T., which came with hazelnut-encrusted bacon, arugula, tomato, and some sort of aioli.  She liked it a lot, although the waffle fries that came with it were nothing to really write home about.

For my part, I ordered the meatloaf, which came with cornbread and greens tossed in their buttermilk dressing.  The meatloaf was decent, but when you got a bite that contained glaze on it, it really made it excellent.  The cornbread was herbed (normally with basil, but they were out, so it had rosemary) and quite good.  The greens were fine, but the buttermilk dressing was super bland.

The beer selection was decent, with a reasonable number of beers to please most people's palates.  I had a glass of Boulevard Tank 7, which they had on tap.

If Yelp allowed half stars, I would have given this place three-and-a-half stars.  However, they're new, and I think they have a lot of potential (and I do like their sister restaurant, The Bleeding Deacon), so I'll bump it up to four instead of rounding down to three.

Stopped in here with a friend visiting from Dallas after reading in the RFT it was the same people behind another favorite, the Bleeding Deacon. I had the Grilled Cheese made with apple, honey and of course, cheese (amazing - recommended by the bartender who described himself as a grilled cheese connoisseur, thank you). Also had the house salad as my side and a glass of cab. The bf ate my leftovers within 3 minutes of me arriving home and wanted more. My friend, who has a gluten intolerance, had the pulled pork (I think), which he ate all of before I could sample. They were more than accomodating in creating him a dish he could safely eat. Someone next to us had ordered the open-faced chicken sandwich, which looked absolutely amazing. I think I'll be trying the open-faced veggie next.

As for ambience, it was quite empty the night we were in there, probably because there was a Cards playoff game and this place shows old movies on a projector and does not have a tv. Music appeared to be from an iPod, which I enjoyed. I am quite looking forward to my second visit.

Update: I went back (they were showing the World Series on the projector this time and had drink specials) with a group of friends. This time I had the vegan burger, which was made in-house and was wonderfully seasoned. They also make their own sauces and condiments in-house, too. My friends had the grilled cheese and the fall harvest sandwich. We all cleaned our plates. Creative food, great prices.
