I have never been much of a fan of Indian carryout, it is so much better if you eat it right away, the naan is so much better that way as well. I used to think Krishna had better food but I'm starting to change my mind. In my mind this is the place to go, they actually have seating and the people who work there and much friendlier than  than those at Krishna. It's awesome, go.
Review Source:Service
I always have pleasant experiences with Deep India. They are very friendly and courteous. I'm not an expert on Indian food, so I appreciate their patience and honesty when I try to choose a dish. For carry-out  or delivery orders, it takes at least 30min, so place the order before you're hungry.
Food
I can't describe in words just how amazingly delicious their dishes taste. They also give you decently sized meals, which you can save for later. (Yes, more yummy food when you want to fully experience  it all over again!) You can also adjust the curry sauce, which is a plus for those who are health conscious.
I will really miss this restaurant  when I move. They are always friendly and helpful;  I am always thrilled to give my business to them. Tasty food and lovely staff.
Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing, but the mushroom mater was AWFUL. I ordered a 3 on a spice scale of 0-6, and I have never had an Indian dish with less taste than this. Not only was this bad, the garlic naan was hard and dry, and the samosas were really inedible. I threw $20 worth of food away. I ordered delivery, and the food showed up after 1.5 hrs, when it was promised in 45 minutes.
This is the worst Indian food, and service, I have ever had.
This place is great! Â I think I like the food at Krishna more, but they don't deliver. Â Deep India is great for when you want really good Indian food but are a little too lazy to leave your house. Â Just like most others who reviewed this place, I am a huge fan of the Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan! Â Just FYI - the delivery minimum is now $18.
Review Source:HURRAY! Â Another great Indian restaurant in Cincinnati! Â But it's that. Â If this spot was in a city without Indian food (like any other city I've lived in), it would be number one on my list. Â But somehow, it has popped up just around the corner from Krishna, Dusmesh, Ambar, and many others. Â I love the hole-in-the-wall nature, and the menu leaves nothing to be desired. Â I had to get my go-to, Chicken Tika Masala, for a true apples-to-apples comparison against the other spots I mentioned. Â I found that Krishna is still my favorite Indian, and Ambar is still the best if you are looking for even more heavy cream. Â I would never feel bad about coming back to this spot, but it's literally walking distance from Krishna. Â But you might like it better, so give it a try!
Bottom Line: I'd definitely be back if it weren't around the corner from my favorite - Krishna.
My second favorite Indian joint, just behind Dusmesh. Props for closer location though.
I have been here more than Dusmesh also, and it is very consistently delicious. I never have had a disappointing meal here, and that includes 5 or 6 different dishes. I am always feeling completely satisfied with my choice at the end too, as if I couldn't have made a better one. (The Saag, lamb or paneer, is fantastic).
The inside is very cozy, and the staff is very polite, so I have no complaints here. Just make sure you are a good judge of your spice tolerance, because when you say "6"(the highest rating) you will get some damn spicy food.
One of my personal favorite places to get cheap Indian food. The chicken tikka masala is great! And the portions are huge. An $8 meal will usually be enough for 2 meals for me. They also have a few tables inside that you can eat at, although I would suggest getting takeout instead because it's pretty small.
Review Source:Very simple, unpretentious Indian fare. They serve your food in a styrofoam container or plate, there are no waiters, you just pick up your food from the counter.
The food is AWESOME! Seriously amazingly good food.
If you're looking for cheap, unpretentious, authentic and great Indian food, this is the place!
Indian food on a college budget! ;-)
I would say that I've eaten here probably more than any single restaurant in all of Metro-Cincinnati. Â Seriously.
As you'll read in many reviews, their Chicken Tika Masala is totally killer (and it is). Â However, sometimes I'm feeling like a bit more meat and the Chicken TIKA delivers. Â Not to be confused with the Tika Masala, the Tika is a crap-ton of awesome chicken with a magic sauce of onions, tomatoes and other ingredients that rival crack on the addictiveness scale. Â
This monstrosity of a plate, and I mean that in a good way, is always enough for two meals and has become my Sunday staple (after bottomless mimosa brunch, but that's a story for another day).
More polished looking than Krishna one block over, but lacks that special hole-in-the-wall charm. Ordered a Chicken Tiki Massala for comparative purposes at a five (out of six) spice level. First pass observation: post preparation garnish (unlike Krishna), it ended up being the only thing exciting about this dish. Dish had a weak, one dimensional flavor profile, with pockets of spice, and no where near the expected heat. Also, dish was light on the chicken, heavy on the sauce, the naan wasn't much better.
Review Source:Deep India delivers...food.The garlic naan was fine, nothing special... a lot of garlic. The lamb biryani was flavorful (ordered mild)... chala masala (ordered med) comes with rice & had nice spice but not really flavorful. Riata was tasty but very very runny. Mango lassi OK. I ordered salty lassi but got guava & mango juice instead... hope someone expecting juice didn't get my salty lassi. Â The best thing I can say is they deliver to my hotel.
Review Source:Now I've never actually eaten inside of Deep India, but have gotten delivery from here dozens of times and I love it. Just the fact that a place up near UC delivers to the riverfront is awesome enough on its own. Once you factor in the food being very good, Deep India is a definite winner when it comes to living and eating in downtown Cincinnati.
Between my wife and I, we've dabbled with a good portion of DI's menu. She has settled on a favorite (lamb curry), while I tend to experiment around and go for what I'm in the mood for. I like some dishes more than others, but they're all good or better.
To get to the point, there isn't much to complain about here. The food is probably A- and delivery takes a good hour (and usually 15 minutes longer than estimated), but aside from that, I have nothing bad to say about Deep India. Call them up, place your order, and soon enough you'll be in take-out nirvana.
Typical food cart style. Great for carry out if you live locally, feeling a little hung over, late night studying, dreary day.
Spice level is fairly accurate. Â Too bland, too sweet, just boring. Going for quantity over quality. If you'd rather get chicken curry than standard fast food and aren't a big Indian food connoisseur, you'll be fine.
I love that they deliver. Â Great! Â If you're not getting it delivered, the location is kind of a pain (just in terms of parking, crowded area, busy street, etc) and dining in isn't exactly something you do for the ambiance (a couple tables and TVs with muted cable shows). Â I've never not enjoyed a meal from there, though I feel they sometimes are a little rougher with the spices, little less subtle than some other places. Â Still, I'm a big fan. Â I'd go Krishna before this place if you asked me to choose, but I'm glad this side of Clifton got another option.
Review Source:I know many people prefer that other Indian restaurant across the street; but these guys are great! The food is top notch; I usually rotate between Chicken Vindaloo, Saag Paneer, and your standard chicken tikka masala. I am a huge fan of spice; and if you ask they will make your dish just how they make it in the Punjab (HOT!). I've been given free Naan and other things while waiting if I just drop in for take-out. The workers are friendly and quick to prepare your food. Even now that I've moved out of Clifton; I still make it a point to stop by.
Review Source:Indian Delivery....that's a thing now? Cool! Where have I been? It's cheap and the portions are huge, I get two meals out of a rice/meat meal....the naan is fresh and hot...What's not to love? They deliver to Clifton area. Chicken saag is out of this world. I've actually ordered from here probably four or five times and have only gotten that dish because it is so good!
Review Source:It was barely 30 degrees outside on the day I decided to eat at Deep India. I was disappointed to discover it was nearly just as cold inside. I asked an employee why it was so cold; he said their heat was off! Brrr...
Despite plentiful seating there is a definite carry-out only vibe. The place is hideously generic inside. No cultural flare, just stale remains of the sandwich shop that used to be there.
I decided to bare the cold and eat in because I do whatever I can to avoid styrofoam. Of course, the food came in styrofoam anyway, complete with plastic forks and paper napkins. I felt like kicking a tree on the way out.
As for the most important part - the food - it was amazingly ok. Nothing special, but definitely good. It's definitely the cheapest Indian food in Clifton, which rocks. The vegetarian dishes averaged about $6.99.
If you are looking for a great dining experience, Deep India is not for you. If your looking for a cheap dive to grab some run of the mill Indian grub, then you've found a winner.
Okay, full disclosure - I first ordered from Deep India only because they would deliver to me in Mt. Auburn. Â But how awesome is it when those purely business-like transactions yield food nirvana?!
First things first: when calling Deep India, they are kind, yet efficient, even when they are super busy. Â There is a $15 minimum for delivery, but they'll help you fill out the order when needed. Â My now-standard: Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, and the Assorted Vegetable Platter.
Now, to the food (my mouth waters as I remember it). Â The garlic naan is always hot upon delivery (it's like magic!), smells amazing, and has just the right amount of minced garlic and ghee. Â The vegetable mixed platter (I'm working from memory here...) includes one (maybe two?) veggie samosa, Â two veggie pakoras (my fave), two paneer pakora (fried cheese squares), and maybe papardamm. Â All are fabulous, and even reheat with pretty decent results.
But it's the main event, the Chicken Tikka, that keeps me coming back. Â I order mine at either a 4 or 5, depending on my mood, 'cause Amy likes her chicken spicy. Â The chicken is kind of shredded, rather than cut into large chunks, so it melds with the sauce beautifully. Â And the sauce itself is spicy and complex in a way that totally blew my mind, especially coming from an Indian takeaway spot. Â Now, ordering at a 5 IS spicy -- it even gets a nod of respect from my I'll-take-my-wings-at-extreme, spice-loving husband. Â
Best part: the order mentioned above is enough for at least two dinners for me, maybe a lunch, too. Â You can't beat that for 15 bucks!
With so many Indian restaurants in this area it can be tough to decided. But you will not be upset with the food at Deep! I have ate at all the different restaurants in the Clifton area and Deep is my go to Indian food. They win on the fact that everytime you order you can be sure the food is going to hit the same quality and the most important the same spicy level. I am always upset when I order spicy food and the level varies allot. Either getting to spicy or the worst when you want spicy and the food is way to calm.
Review Source:Deep India is hands down the best Indian food in Cincinnati. The food tastes amazing (as flavorful and greasy as proper Indian food should be). The people who work there are very friendly. The value is, by far, the best in Cincinnati. More, better, food for less money. Whatever to do. The hidden gem of Cincinnati's indian food scene.
Oh. And they DELIVER!!!
Amazing Indian food! I am just getting into the whole Indian food menu. Both times I have been here I have been impressed. The quantities are very large (as with many Indian restaurants) and the food is good quality.
The first time I tried Deep India I accidentally ordered the spiciest option. At my previous experience with Indian food at Krishna, I ordered a six out of 10 for spicy, and it was pretty spicy. I liked it a lot, so I got a six again. I brought the food back to my apartment and noticed they put a menu in my take out bag. I browsed through the menu just before digging in and noticed that their spicy level only goes to six! I hesitantly opened the container and tried the chicken tikki masala.
Despite the extreme heat I finished over half of my meal before packing it back into my fridge. Though I did enjoy the food, the next time I got a level four.
Somebody in a previous review mentioned having a "deep relationship with another Indian restaurant", and I totally do. Because you never forget your first time, ya know?
But then Deep India came along, and for a very long time I fought fiercely against it in the neighborhood Indian food wars, until I was finally convinced by my boyfriend to give it a shot. So we went and much to my surprise, it was still delicious! Imagine my shock.
The last thing Clifton really needs is another Indian restaurant, so you've gotta make a name for yourself. Â Others have character, longevity, or lunch buffets. Deep India has delivery! Â When you consider that everybody's favorite time to eat Indian food is on super snowy & cold days...why would you want to leave your house to get it when you don't have to!
Not to mention, the quality of food is the same and you'll pay a few dollars less. Win!
Deep India is my go-to now because of the convenience and price, but I'll still visit my first love every once in a while when I'm feeling sentimental and nostalgic :)
Good Food. Great Price.
Deep India is easily the cheapest Indian food in town.
Also the only indian delivery in town.
I did't really expect much from the look of the place The big neon signs kind of deterred me from trying it for a while now, but I'm glad I finally did.
Well I got delivery.
It was delivered decently fast, 40 min or so which is what i was told when i placed my order.
The food was great and getting it right to my front door was awesome.
I'll probably never step foot inside the place because my loyalty lies in Krishna but if I'm in the mood for some good indian food and i don't want to leave the house I'll def be hitting up some Deep India delivery.
Very good Indian food, even for something ordered at a counter and served in a styrofoam box. It's also a great value for Indian made to order, by the "dish" (in contrast to the multitude of indistinguishable buffets you'll find around town these days). My go-to is the Tikka Saag and it was probably as good as I've had in the area. The standout, though, was the bhatura which was literally the size of a pro football, inflated with steaming hot air...fresh, delicious, and frankly, fun to eat. (There's not many foods you get to "pop" before you eat.)
I have to admit that I hesitated to Yelp about it for fear of letting the secret out...
Terrific Indian food, even better that it's delivered.
Portions are large so the prices are very good if you keep that in mind. I always have leftovers. I wouldn't go here if I were watching my weight though. I think part of what makes it so delicious is copious quantities of cream and butter - but hey, it's pretty darned good.
There are 54,8390 Indian restaurants in Clifton. This one is my favorite, second to Krishna only because it is cheaper. I think they are more or less the same in quality, but you save around 3 bucks by going to Deep India, so, what the hell.
Standard Indian restaurant, order at the counter, wait around, eat-in or take-out.
You can get an entree and naan for 10 dollars, which beats all the other ones that run around 13. I am a big saag paneer fan, which deep india does great. Fast, friendly service. They have given me and my roommate free things on multiple occasions, pretty sure it is not because they recognized us and just because they are nice. We got a caramel apple once, and a salad another time. That is what's up.
I love spicy, but my roommate is really fragile when it comes to spiciness level.. apparently the '1' at Deep India is mild compared to Krishna. This information may be of use to you if you are a wuss.
I guess the only reasons for not going here are if you want a buffet, which they don't have, or if you have some sort of deep relationship established with some other Indian place.
Inside restaurant is pretty nice and clean, you can seat anywhere from 4 to maybe 6-8 if you pushed some tables together.
They also rule because they deliver.. nice.
Great food. Also they have the most reasonable prices for Indian food in the Clifton area. The people that work there are very kind and actually go through your bag to make sure you have your correct order. This place is great for around 9 dollars you cab get a great chicken curry that will most definitely fill u up.
Review Source:This place is ridiculously good. Â And cheap. Â For only $9 (including the price of a 20 oz Diet Pepsi) I got enough saag paneer, naan and rice for two complete meals. Â (Correction: Two ridiculously good complete meals.)
Strange as it might sound, the part that impressed me the most about Deep India was how hot and fresh their food was. Â Even though I drove five miles back to my house before digging in, my saag was almost slightly too warm to eat. Â That's a welcome change of pace from many of the cold-before-it-reaches-your-plate Indian restaurants I've visited in greater Cincinnati.
Deep India's seating is limited and their decor is virtually nonexistant, which is understandable as it caters to the students of the nearby University of Cincinnati. Â In some ways, Deep India strikes me as the Five Guys Burgers and Fries of Indian food: Â A somewhat plain and unassuming setting for incredible meals that shouldn't be missed by any true foodie.
Has this place become my favorite Indian restaurant in the city? After three visits (and becoming the mayor on foursquare), I think that's a definite, "yes!"
As a "native" (been living in the area for 20+ years) I've seen many Indian restaurants come and go. Some are still left standing, because of mass appeal, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's good Indian.
What I love about Deep, is it's simplicity. This is a non frou frou kinda place, no waiters, no silverware on the table. The owners recognize that by setting up in the business district that serves the University of Cincinnati crowd, they have to think like a college community thinks: need to eat good food, fast and for cheap.
I wouldn't recommend this place for large groups (not even 10 tables inside) but I do recommend it for a cute date night with a girlfriend or the boo.
Bottom line why you should go: food is good. And there's LOTS of it. In fact, there's so much food that at after one visit, I seriously had leftovers for three more days! No lie!
My one recommendation that everyone should check out from the menu: the special vegetable samosa. It's an appetizer, but seriously could pass for a light meal. Eating it, with an order of chai, takes me right back to my homeland of India, having afternoon tea along the busy streets of Kochi.
So go.
Take it from this Indian.
Deep India just opened in the old Jersey Mike's place... good riddance :P
I'm a huge fan of Krishna and am always looking for another restaurant to match their Saag Paneer, but haven't found one... until now.
Turns out the head chef for Deep India actually helped to open Krishna. He's also worked at Cumin, and his skills in the kitchen definitely show. I ordered Saag Paneer and Garlic Nan, which came to a total of $10.50. Cheap - that's a plus!
The restaurant itself is kind of plain, but there's a fair amount of seating, and I got a place by the window. One of the guys came out and gave me a lentil wafer appetizer while I was waiting, which was awesome.
The paneer was AMAZING. The cheese was soft and not rubbery, it was spiced really well (I'm a weenie and always get a 2, and it was perfect), and there was a ton of food. Even the rice was well cooked. I suspect there's a LOT of butter/cream involved, which I'm totally okay with. Everything tasted amazing.
I stopped by today and got a Mango Lassi, which was also really good. I looked through their menu and they've got a lot of really interesting dishes, including goat. I can't wait to go back and try more!
