We ate here back in mid February for a birthday dinner for my sister-in-law. Â I'm a big fan of a free brew for checking in via Yelp! Â We made reservations through Open Table and had no problems at all with the process. Â We were sat immediately in a nice corner table.
Our waitress took our drink orders quickly and got our appetizer order in quickly, too.
We had spinach artichoke dip for an appetizer. Â 4-stars on taste. Â I ordered lamb chops. Â It came with three little chops that were cooked fairly well. Â The waitress made sure I knew what I was getting as far as size goes, which I appreciated very much. Â The lamb chops just didn't wow me. Â I'd give them a 3 star. Â I would never ever consider ordering them again. Â
Our waitress made a big goof on the bill & change, but correcting the issue only took a little honesty and it was no big deal. Â
However, based on the excellent service and tasty beers, I would come here again.
Fantastic Tenderloin tips. Melts in your mouth tender with a sharp tasting stout gravy. Comes with a generous house salad. Plenty of blue cheese. Also hot corn bread served in a baking pan. Terrific house pale ale too. Â Crowded, loud, and bustling on a weekend. Â Service was still pretty good, and the food was excellent.
Review Source:I went to Denver Chophouse & Brewery on a Friday night with a large party. The long table and loud atmosphere was not great for a big party, but with all the delicious food, we weren't talking much anyway!! It seems like it would be the perfect date night location, or a smaller party of 4-5 people.
We started with an appetizer sampler - shrimp, ahi tuna, spinach and artichoke dip and some crab cakes, all of which were delicious. They also provide jalapeno corn bread, which was yummy.
I ordered the 8oz filet with the white cheddar mashed potatoes, which were both amazing. I can't remember the last time I had a steak so perfectly cooked! I had a Patron margarita to drink, which was pretty good too.
The waitress was great and very attentive, especially with such a large party. My first impression of Denver Chophouse and Brewery is definitely positive - I will be returning on my next trip to Denver!
I have heard wonderful reviews but this past evening I have experienced anything but.  Reservations were made via the Chop House website but could not be found by  the hostess.  The gal that  sat us was told to "just sit them at table x".  So much for making a guest feel welcome.  Once seated, it was close to 15 minutes before we had any acknowledgment from the waitress and another 10 minutes (not exaggerating) before we received our cocktails.  The food came in a reasonable time frame being a Friday night but was cool to temp. Â
Overall, for a restaurant of this class the food was reasonable, good proportions but lack in quality guest service.  There are too many other steak houses in the area to accept such service.
Very underwhelmed.
Went to dinner there one night, after I had heard good things about the place.
After we were seated it was 10 minutes before we were greeted by our server or brought any water.
Her service went downhill from there. Anytime we tried to get her attention she completely ignored us. I sent my steak back to be cooked more and by the time they brought it back out everyone else had finished their meal.
Food was okay, but not as great as everyone makes it out to be. Either it varies a lot or people just don't know what a good steak is.
Won't be coming back.
This place is great. Whether a date night, out with the girlfriends or for a nice family dinner. Their prices are really good for a chop house. They don't make you pay for every little side. The cornbread is sooooo yummy. Love their house salad too. Garbanzo beans in the salad....my favorite!!!
Review Source:I travel a fair amount and entertain clients at some higher end steakhouses. Â That said, I've yet to find a better steakhouse than the Denver Chophouse. Â My wife and I celebrated several special occasions there and we were never disappointed. Â Steaks are the best, the ambiance of the restaurant is great and the service was excellent every time we visited. Â Not to mention they serve the best whiskey barrel aged stout beer I've ever tasted.
Review Source:The aoli in the sweet potato fries is God Awful.
However, I forgot about this place because Denver has so many outstanding expensive restaurants.
The steak here is impeccable, definitely a top 5 steakhouse in town. Â The filet is perfect in every way, definitely a Ruth Chris grade steak.
I also love the fact that it has the old Union Pacific station Art Deco theme going on.
But what I really love about this place is that you get a $60 filet for $30 and there are normal people in the restaurant. Â It is not full of poser food snobs pretending to be "Continental!"
My wife and I had our rehearsal dinner here and it was simply fantastic.
We set up the reservation months in advance, and their banquet manager, Ally, was incredibly helpful. Â We were working within a pre-determined budget so we opted for the smaller of the banquet spaces, the Club Car. Then on the day of the event, Ally called apologetically to say that they had decided to upgrade us to the larger Caboose Room at no additional charge! Â Really sweet and accommodating throughout the process - setting this up was remarkably easy.
The day of the actual event went off without a hitch. Â The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and attentive, without being pushy. Â We wanted to incorporate a slide show into the evening's activities and they also allowed us free use of their projector and sound system with wireless mic so everyone could enjoy the presentation.
The food was also fantastic - from the passed apps to the dinner, really couldn't have asked for anything more. Compliment the delicious food with the Mad Men-era decor harkening back to a lush Union Pacific bar car and you have the recipe for a quality evening.
A meat loving friend was coming into town and mentioned he wanted to try this steakhouse, it was a few days before my bday so we decided to make it a 'bday dinner'. Made reservations for Saturday night at 7, was seated right away, and the service that followed was awesome!
We started off with the buttermilk bleu cheese and tomato salad-great seasonings and delicious bleu chesse(there was so much I saved some for my steak!) my friend and I both ordered the top sirloin, medium rare. I opted  for the 'Oscar' preparation(Bearnaise sauce, crab, and asparagus.) The meat was cooked perfectly and the 'Oscar' additions were spot on, my only complaint is that the lump crab meant was served cold???
My dinner partner was not so pleased, his meat was overcooked but declined the servers offer to make another one for him, so they would have totally made him a new steak-good customer service! At the end of the meal, the waiter let us pick a complimentary dessert, chose the key lime pie to go because I was way too full to tackle dessert, but later at home it was some of the best KL pie ever! The server also comped some wine for the trouble over the friends steak. All in all, a very pleasant experience.
Long flight, strange city and a need for some serious food and drink. Having been sustained by small meals in tiny trays served with foil on top left me and my work colleague in need of serious sustenance.
So, we needed substantial food and beers to fill the void and get the thought of sitting in a metal tube for 12 hours out of our heads.
A quick scan through Yelp and I found the nearby Denver Chophouse and Brewery,
Here is a hint kids, Â if it has beer in the title - they probably serve beer worth drinking.
So, we began a slow wander through the Denver night waiting for the altitude to hit us and leave us panting on the side of the street while listening to bad rap music being pumped out of tricked out trucks stopped at the lights. Lots of noisy trucks but no asphyxiation meant we arrived even hungrier.
The establishment is a large brick building with an interior that befits a steakhouse. Dark wood and subdued lighting - yeah, this will do.
We had the option of a formal sit down or placing ourselves at the bar. With loads of tables available and close proximity to the alcohol meant that the bar was our first choice.
The menu is varied but not extensive. The focus is on steaks. We grabbed the bar menu and spied the Kobe burger and the colossal onions rings. I thought the second item's name was just a cute title meant to entice the tourists. I was due to learn the consequences of my mistake. Two kobes and onion rings ordered left us to work ont the beers.
We then were introduced to Nate, the whirlwind behind the bar. This guy was friendly, fast, knowledgeable and really pleasant. Everything you want in a waiter. He earns a star on his own for the service level delivered. Considering that he was working the bar on his own and  there were no delays in getting drinks or orders, Really impressed by this guy.
Started with a pilsener lager and a IPA. Lots of hop and bite in the Pale Ale, which was refreshing but not a easy going session ale., So, I shifted to the Dortmunder on the second glass. Lot of floral notes in a really drinkable beer. 12 ounce glasses were a bit off-putting, seemed like we were drinking little pints. Peter liked his pilsener and stuck with it. So, even though this place is setup like a steakhouse, the beers definitely deliver on the brewpub front.
Burgers arrived and so did the onion rings and so we discovered our mistake. This thing was a tower of fried Alliums. The burger plates were piled with really good chips and the trimmings. I had mine with blue cheese and bacon while Peter got the bacon and cheddar version. The blue cheese was a mistake. Way too overpowering. The burger itself was really good and unfortunately, the cheese made it tough to taste the excellent meat within. Next time I would get this plain. No need to add to anything this good.
Now the onion tower. This thing was too big. We had half of them, dipping each on the accompanying sauce, but in the end we admitted defeat and left four of them on that steel spike.  It was a shame since the light batter had a really nice twang to it. These were possibly a meal in themselves. I would go for the half portion and  order more if you clear that lot.
At this point, jet lag, altitude made our way out. Pretty good final bill considering the number of drinks and amount of food ordered.
I would recommend this place to anyone.
I took my significant other to Denver Chophouse for his birthday, since he loves steak and microbrews. Â He was beyond impressed by the quality of the food and the beer selection. Â I personally found the food to be much stronger than the microbrews, but I'll admit that I am particular about my beer, and he's a little more open-minded. Â I had four samples trying to select one, but they all seemed a little dull and flat, in my opinion. Â He didn't agree, and really enjoyed the bourbon-aged stout. Â
The seared ahi appetizer was spectacular, and one of the highlights of the meal. Â We followed with salads and then both ordered the Delmonico with different preparation methods. Â We both agreed that my gorgonzola preparation was superior, and bar none, the best steak we'd tasted in quite some time. Â His Diane preparation was a close second, but there was something about the creamy cheesiness that really amped up the melt-in-your-mouth scrumptiousness of the steak.
We finished with a ludicrously decadent bourbon creme brulee, and I definitely recommend dessert, even if you're stuffed. Â Neither of us are even big dessert people, and we were raving about it.
We were seated late, even though we had reservations, and our server, while excellent at describing menu items, had really strange timing and seemed a little awkward. Â The place was packed, and I'm glad we had a table tucked in a corner, otherwise, it might have detracted from the overall experience. Â
It was a pricey meal, but it was really a good time. Â I'd recommend it for a special occasion, if you're carnivorous.
Celebrating usually gets us out to a new place. We were very happy with the Chophouse. Yum and yum!
Didn't even know they brewed their own beers, nice surprise. Their red ale was great! My cousin had their sangria and my sip was delish! Hubby's beer was good too but don't remember which one it was. Now the food: They brought out some jalapeno cornbread I didn't try but everyone else thought it was good. We skipped apps and went straight for the meal. I had the Porterhouse and added the Lobster tail. They were both cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The mash were good, not too chunky and flavorful. Hubby had the Prime Rib and I took a few bites and it was one of the better cooked Prime Ribs we have had. Very delish. As I mentioned we were celebrating a few things and they comped us 2 desserts (one per couple) which was super nice. I am a sucker for Creme Brulee and that is what we ordered, it was excellent. I have had many many Creme Brulees and this was top 5. Overall, one of my top 5 meals in Denver.
Service was great. We were seated promptly and had waters and a server over within minutes. We asked for drink recs and he also went over the specials. Not pushy but descriptive. We never had to search for him and our glasses were never empty. Our food came out timed quite well, too. Â
The location for this place is great. They are right by Coors Field, downtown. They have valet parking, pay lot, or find a meter, not an issue unless there is a game. The historic building is super cute and I liked the old school decor inside. Not quite "fine restaurant" feel but still has an upscale look. Noticed I said upscale, not snooty because we didn't get that vibe at all. Â
Fantastic! I enjoyed everything here and will absolutely be back.
Seated right away even though we arrived a smidge early for our res. Excellent service with excellent wine pairing with dinner. Â Had the NY strip and Colorado Trout with the garlic mashed potatoes. Â Delish! Â And a fantastic little Cesear before. Â You know how some restaurants can ruin that with too much dressing ... this was just perfect. Â Great little date night!
Review Source:If you really want to treat yourself for a small sum of money, come in during happy hour and order the prime rib sliders. Â After you finish the three that they bring out, immediately order another round of the prime rib sliders. Â Wash it all down with a couple happy hour drinks and laugh all the way home.
Review Source:There is a long bar along the right hand side with a lot of seating for dinners. A dark and dim pub with some artwork on the wall. Some 40's style jazz was playing when I walked in. A nice touch for me. Though more of a restaurant feel than a brewpub, or even just a neighborhood pub. Most of the people were drinking wine, or the "guest tap" of Coors. The service was decent, though unattentive at times and they don't know a lot about the beer. Just bartenders working for tips.
There is a wide variety of beers, though they are the masters of none. Of the nine beers I sampled, only two were any good. The pale being decent, and the Irish Stout being the best. Other beers ranged from a Pils, Dortumder, Munich Dark, Wheat, Red, bourbon barrel aged stout, to an odd Belgian/German hybrid. All are sub par to very below average. Some are just plan bad (Bourbon Stout). Really nothing that I would recommend.
I did not eat, but looks like this is more of a restaurant than anything. Â Maybe I could look past the crappy beer if I had a steak, but as a brewery this place is not up to par. Not a place I would recommend for a beer destination. For the most part, the beer is just bad IMO. There are so many other better destinations than this in the area.
I treated my friends to dinner and had awesome of a time there. Â I recommend the filet mignon, salad and tri tips, mushrooms and green beans. Â The food is good enough to write home about after only eating at this Chophouse three times. Â I became so distracted treating my friends to a good time that I left my camera and jacket there. Â Tina and Nathan and our unnamed server were kind enough to ship my camera to me even though it was my fault for shedding my jacket and camera after feeling warm. Â We are really thankful that the Chophouse staff went out of their way to help us reclaim an otherwise flawless evening with mile high customer service. Â If you eat at the Chophouse, I hope you are treated just as nicely.
Review Source:We stopped in Denver on a road trip from Michigan to California. We will never forget the burger we had at the Denver Chop house. It was the best burger my husband and I have EVER had. Everything about it was delicious, the bun was perfect, the meat was perfect, we couldn't stop talking about how good our burgers were! If we ever go back to Colorado, we will definitely be stopping here for a burger.
I'm only giving it 4 stars because the service was average.
One of my favorite lunch spots in LoDo. In the shadows of Coors Field with a large public parking lot right next to the restaurant, location is perfect.
Food is fantastic. Staff are very service oriented, friendly, & fast.
I do the chicken caesar salad and find it completely marvelous.
It was good to be back in Denver and hit a couple of our old haunts. Â We had tickets to a Rockies game at Coors Field, so that meant beers and appetizers across the way at the Denver Chophouse beforehand.
I love the look of the Chophouse; this historic building is styled in dark wood with classic photos adorning the walls. The low lighting adds to the ambiance. Â My husband and I opted to sit at the beautiful bar, with the vats of beer on display.
The Chophouse has a Tavern Menu with happy hour specials Monday - Friday from 4pm-7pm. Â Their Handcrafted Beers are only $3, so we opted to try a few. Â My favorite was the Bourbon Stout; the flavors were rich, but not heavy. Â The hint of bourbon added a nice taste. Â We ordered a couple of appetizers to go with the beers. The Chicken Tenderloins and the Spinach and Artichoke Dip were tasty and filled us up.
The Denver Chophouse & Brewery had been a place we always enjoyed coming to before a Rockies game. We even celebrated my oldest daughter's first birthday here seventeen years ago. This visit was just as nice as the ones in the past. Â The bar was lovely for chatting with the friendly bartender while the beers and appetizers were quite pleasing.
It's nice to come back home and know you can count on hitting some of your old favorites; still popular with the locals and tourists alike.
I've lived in Denver for over 20 years, but had only been to the Chophouse 3 times, once for happy hour and twice for lunch.
Last week I went back with a couple of friends for dinner and I had an absolutely amazing meal.
For appetizers we ordered the calamari (nothing extraordinary but okay) and the seared tuna (EXCELLENT). A couple of us ordered the mixed greens salad with the herb vinaigrette, which was really delicious.
Meals come with jalapeno corn bread and honey butter, which was a really nice addition to the meal.
I've always heard about how amazing the steaks are so I just had to try one. I ordered the 20 oz. Delmonico. It was cooked perfectly and was the most tender, flavorful steak I have ever experienced. I say experienced, rather than tasted, because eating this steak was truly an experience! I ordered it with the Oscar preparation, which I wouldn't do again; not because the Oscar preparation (bearnaise, asparagus, and crab) wasn't delicious, but because the steak was so amazing by itself that the Oscar preparation somewhat detracted. I highly recommend ordering it prepared the traditional way. It doesn't need anything added to it.
I can't afford to return for the steak very often, but the Denver Chophouse has now been added to the list of my favorite restaurants for special occasions. I'll be dreaming about my steak for some time. The steaks aren't inexpensive, but not outrageously priced. SO worth the price for the quality of the meat. I felt that everything we ordered was very reasonably priced.
Our server was Justin and he could not have been more attentive or informative. The service he provided was as good as any service I've had anywhere. Kudos to him!
It was truly an unforgettable dining experience.
Been here many times and never disappointed.
The ambiance and decor is very similar to Texas steakhouses, casual/business causal but still nice enough to have a business dinner. Â The fresh brewed beer is excellent. Maybe not the best place for kids and the dining room is fairly dark and loud.
I would recommend making a reservation and the valet parking is a nice perk in this location as parking is not easy to find.
I would avoid appetizers as the main courses are so large. I have had the onion rings which are HUGE and VERY greasy. I would not order them again.
The steaks and chops are great. I have had the filet, NY strip, and lamb chops. Â They are always cooked just right, and I think they are grilled instead of broiled, but I'm not 100% sure.
Dessert was good too, if you have room.
This regal building, dark brick and wood interior is sultry like a stocking wearing 40 year old MILF in a business suit.
The food was excellent, big steaks, huge portions. The mushrooms, asparagus , mashed potatoes were magnificent and our waiter , bussers were off the hook attentive.
But still and all, a few misses. Their "hand crafted" beer, made in house was bland and flat The presentation of the cheese plate appetizer was hokey I could do better. Infact I DO do better. Chunks of cheese on a plate that could come from a bag of pre-cut squares (Visit Purple in Seattle to see how a cheese plate should be served.) Â And the variety of cheeses , though tasty, were akin to Cracker Barrel.
In fact, what's with their dinner wear. My after dinner coffee came in a diner mug. Come on boys!! Man up! Cup and saucer please.
That said, it was our second wedding anniversary (every one say awwwwww) and they comp'ed us dessert and beer.
Overall great experienced we'll be back! This is not a grand steak house like you'd find in Seattle (The Met, El Goucho) or Chicago (Gibsons) or Dallas (Three Forks). But it is very very good.
UPDATE:
In need of a cocktail after a long day at work, my coworkers and i made our way over for happy hour, as we heard it was one of the best. They have quite the selection of food options ranging from $5-$7 and discounted drinks [beer for $3 and wine for $5] and offer special cocktails, to people in need after the day i had.
Service was great [always kept our drinks full and were quite attentive] until the bill came. they had rang in all of our drinks and food NOT on happy hour price, which created the largest happy hour bill i'd ever seen. Explaining the issue to our server, he apologized, snatched the ticket and "fixed it". When looking at the corrections, our total was still incorrect. After pulling the server aside again and another time after that to explain the confusion & further corrections he said "look man, just subtract what you don't want to pay for from the total. i'll take care of it" UM, what? why he couldn't fix the ticket to reflect our actual total was beyond me. Instead we simply wrote how much to charge our cards on the back of the receipt. Once our cards were charged and returned to us, my card was charged MORE than the total i had written down! wtf!
Chop house, your beer and food is amazing, but your service is lacking currently and i will NOT return for happy hour based on my experience tonight.
so sorry.
Oh My Freaken God.
Chop stuffed with cheese, Chipotle chutney on the side and mushrooms. The corn bread complements the meal. Â The flavors are so great together. Add the great beer sampler and I'm in heaven.
The service was real good and the place is amazing. Â It resides in one of the old buildings near the train station and in the inside was red brick and dark wood. Â Look around the place and you will find the brewery everywhere. Â It has a history, i'm sure. Â
This is going to my last meal on this earth or at least I'll Change my Yelp profile.
We dined at the Denver Chophouse & Brewery Saturday evening, March 3rd, courtesy of White Crown Federal Credit Union. The event was the annual volunteers appreciation dinner.
The 'Chophouse' went all out for our group. The salmon entree was prepared perfectly, Â colorful and tasty...a restaurant must. The spoon scoop chocolate fudge cake that served as my dessert could have served as dessert for two. The wait staff was professional, friendly and always available when we needed them. Thank you WCFCU & Chophouse Denver.
We have eaten here quite a few times, and while we have never had a bad experience here at any time, we tend to do the brunch menu on the weekends more than anything. Â The steak breakfast burrito is HUGE and delicious. Â The best part about going there on the weekends is the crowd, which is generally non existent. Â We never have to wait, and generally sit at one of the high tables in the bar.
One of the best secrets in this town is the wine list, which is very robust and reasonably priced, but if you are a member of their wine club, which is easy to sign up for, their bottles are half priced on Sunday. Â Fantastic deal.
Locationally, it works really well too. Â There is plenty of parking near by, both indoor and outdoor, valet options well. Â It is also right next to Coors field and plenty of bars and nightlife after
I really don't have a great reason to not give it a 5 star review, but it just feels slightly lacking something, so I am holding back that fifth star, but we are big fans and will be back soon.
Additional tip, you can get gift certs at Costco at a 20% discount.
Took out of town guests to Denver Chophouse and had a fantastic experience. Â The great food, classy railroad themed decor, and excellent service made this a perfect choice.
Our meals were outstanding. Â The items we tried included the Grilled Lamp Chops, Pan Seared Roasted Chicken, Chicken Picatta, and Filet Mignon. Â Everything was outstanding, cooked just the way we ordered, and served piping hot.
Our waiter was very patient and made great suggestions for food & wine pairings for several in our party that were having trouble making up their minds.
As you would expect for a nicer downtown restaurant, the prices are moderately high $19 - $35 per entree. Â I must say that I was pleasantly surprised to find the prices for beer and wine not marked up nearly as much.
Only bad thing was a large group with an infant and a toddler were seated next to us and the children were whiny and fussing most of the time. Â Some parents have no respect for others. Â It was 8:00 PM when they were seated and they left at 9:30 PM so I can imagine why the kids were unhappy. Â Not sure what the restaurant could have done, but it did disrupt an otherwise perfect evening.
Valet parking is available, but costs $7, evening parking in the area runs $8 so not a bad deal for downtown.
Some of the items that you order here I feel can be hit and miss but the things that are a hit are a real hit for sure! I ordered the Pale Ale and while I wasn't too impressed with how it tasted I fell in love with the beer that Steven ordered. He ordered the Wild Turkey Bourbon Conditioned Stout and wow! That was the best beer we tasted all day on this little brewery tour we went on!!
For eating I ordered the Honey Mustard Chicken sandwich which was good but Steve ordered the Top Sirloin and that was fantastic and so perfect with his beer selection! Steve also ordered mashed potatoes as a side and they too were amazing! The portions were generous and we got very full and had to pass on dessert and I am sure that they too are massive!
I don't really enjoy Yelping about chain restaurants. But this is a small chain so I may as well give my $0.02.
This place is OK. If you are looking for some quality meat that isn't quite as pricey as Morton's (across the street) or to have it shoved in your face at your table (2 Brazilian steak houses within a couple blocks), this is a good choice.
I appreciate that the lunch menu is great quality food and yet still affordable. You can get a $20 steak if you want but also a $12 salad or sandwich.
The most memorable experience I had here was getting hit on by a man twice my age while waiting at the bar for a table on a Friday night. They did give me a free beer while I waited which was pretty cool since I didn't have reservations.
Update 11/13/11... went back last night for dinner and was very disappointed. I have had better steak at Applebees. It was tough (med-rare) and flavorless. My potato was undercooked with that crunch you just don't want. Â For a brewery the beers are meh (I had the Red and Bourbon aged). Finally, the noise from the dishwashing area was disturbing throughout the entire experience.
For me, the food was a 3.5 stars, but our service was a definite 5 stars.
Our appetizer of mussels were ok and my salad was fresh and crisp. I wish I would've ordered the house salad though. I snagged a bite of that and definitely liked it over my caesar. The steak in my steak tips with mushrooms were cooked perfectly and they were nice a juicy. But the sauce on top, ewww, the sauce. Thick, overbearing and salty. Would've like it much better if they had nixed the sauce and added some light seasoning. The cheesecake for desert was marvelous.
Our waitress along with the hostess and valet staff made our visit extra nice. Everyone was really on top of their game. We went from valet to host to table to wine within a handful of minutes. Our waitress was beyond sweet and super helpful. We gave her a few key words of the kind of wine we were looking to have. She nailed it! After taking my first sip, I swear I wanted to give her a hug! Not only did it compliment our dinner wonderfully, but she introduced me to a wine that I am now absolutely smitten with. I couldn't be happier with the service that we received here, but the food didn't wow me as much as I'd hoped.
